Ordered a Rokinon/Samyang 12mm for APS-C, for a combination of Astro, Archi and indoor stuff

What else would/will this lens be good for?
>>
Optimistic dick pics.

Some do interesting close up work that's not quite macro. Macro landscapes. The distortion makes for some more artsy composition options for street. I don't really like it for landscape but it makes small pastures and clearings look more expansive. Waist level or below, they do shots other lenses just can't.

I've got this lens. I always carry it around for fun stuff. Its not the worlds sharpest lens, but you get 180 degree coverage. Its not rectilinear either, which means you won't get clean straight lines but curves everywhere.

There's a filter for photoshop called "Imadio fisheye" which is designed with this lens specifically in mind. I bought it a week after i received my lens, and I use it to correct almost every shot. Works extremely well, better than photoshops own correction, which cuts out the edges of images. Check it out. Its a brilliant addition.
>>
>>3309212
Why's the fisheye so bad? I have a 10mm and only get the tiniest amount of curve which is fixed in lightroom
>>
>>3309213
Its designed to be a fisheye lens, perhaps yours was designed to be rectilinear.

I'm, thinking about using it to do some real estate photographs - I know a place that would pay me to take shots of apartments to rent. Right now they send someone out with a wonky Iphone...
>>

>Its designed to be a fisheye lens
Oh, yeah that'll explain it then.
Mines definitely rectilinear, the Canon 10-18, fuggin great lens, just wish it was like two stops faster. F/4.5 at night gets rough.
>>
don't forget to make an entire new thread when it arrives, another one for unboxing, and another one with pic...oh never mind you cancerous piece of shit
>>
>>3309223
ignore this prick.

Just post photos. /p/ lacks them.
>>
>>3309229
It doesn't lack snapshits of boxes and gear.

that's the 3rd time he posted that pic in a few months, and it was just to start yet another shit gear thread about something he literally doesn't even have yet
he made an entire thread just to tell everyone that he ordered a fucking lense

wouldn't it make more sense to get the lense, USE IT, and then make a nice thread about the pics that he took with the new lense, stuff he tried, lessons learned and so on?

The amsterdam one? I posted it in one other thread because someone asked for popular flickr shots

>and then make a nice thread about the pics that he took with the new lense, stuff he tried, lessons learned and so on?
I probably should've used the gear thread but 1. It's all gearfags in there and 2. You never get good generalised answers regardless

but since you asked, it's an incredible lens to me, but I have no context because the 50 1.8 and kit lens are all I've ever used cause they came with the camera. This knocks both on their asses for sharpness but the lack of auto focus in particular is a real kick in the scrote because I have to use my eyes and the viewfinder to get the focus usable and I don't think I have focus magnification on this, so I'm kind of hoping for the best in most cases

I've also noticed it only seems to be in focus when it's pushed to infinity or close to it and unless I'm focusing within a few feet I shouldn't really come away from infinity. Weird to me as someone who doesn't have much experience with lenses

It's also a bitch not having EXIF info and that makes learning from the focus even harder

I've also noticed a HUGE increase in artefacts in shots which seems to be from dust and rain on the lens, even with the hood on. Presumably this is true of all wide and fisheye lenses

The wide angle is amazing though, I mostly shoot at 16mm because that's as wide as the kit lens gets but those extra 4mm make an enormous difference and I constantly found myself much closer to things than I would've normally been

I haven't tried any astro yet because Scotland is pretty much useless for shooting upwards but that's the primary selling point for this lens so I'm looking forward to giving it a blast next clear night we get

Very impressed with the glass either way, these are just piss-around shots but they all seem sharper, clearer and more full of colour than all of my previous stuff
