Halifax wait time to see a Cardiologist is around 45 days.

Angioplasty, for instance, has wait times around 100 days.

Rich people in Halifax say 'fuck it' lets go to the United States and book an apt and get in ASAP. Specialist will order the procedure right away if diagnosis is severe. If not around a 2 day wait time give or take the volume of pts.

Bullshit, I know Canadians. That ambulance you called because you were collapsing? Get on the list, maybe next year. That life improving surgery you want to get? You're 40 now, should have asked last year, we don't do it for people over 39. Lasik? Make an appointment in the US.

Did you know 2/3 of Canadians have health insurance? Why lol, why. Oh right, because no matter how hard you guys try, the government can't afford to pay for everything, so you guys have to cough up for all kinds of shit.

Never understood why so many Americans are still this retarded when it comes to universal healthcare. I guess they like paying more money and getting less in return.

>higher government spending per capita on healthcare than any other developed country
>still can't provide a public option for most Americans

^ this

If I was a doctor, I'd never charge thousands of dollars to do small procedures.

The main issue today is that the government and insurance companies are corrupt.

Lately if you have noticed there are many of these "small" clinics opening up where doctors will see and treat you for a flat fee of $75 starting.

The big insurance companies tried to have these offices shut down because they are not making big money off of doctors offering services at a lower cost.

It's comes to the point of, if you have a common illness that is easily treatable, there is no reason someone should be paying thousands of dollars to have some asshole in a white coat tell you that you have strep throat and you need a 10 cent prescription of penacillin along with cough syrup

accurate.
the American Medical Association has been drastically and intentionally smothering the supply of doctor's for years in order to artificially drive up the value of their work. They can only do this because the government gives them a near monopoly over health-related medical work.
>>
>>122146091

Fucking lies, there are literally no qualifications required by law for US federal judges. The approval and appointment process currently generates lawyers, but if they felt like it they could put just about anybody up there. The results would be about the same though, those with the best lawyers and bribes would walk, everyone else cops a plea.

Now check how many laws will be broken if someone without medical school etc etc treats your horrible acne breakout. You, your "doctor" and your zits will all do time in prison.

We have a single-payer healthcare system in the United States: the Department of Veteran Affairs.

And it is atrocious. Tons of scandals like covering up average wait times of up to 114 days (even though the official policy is you only wait for 14 days max), delays that cost people their lives, and not informing patients of potentially fatal diseases they have.

This is despite the VA being the department with the second highest funding, just after the Department of Defense.

There are 21 million veterans in the United States. 14 million don't use the VA. Of the 7 million who do, 75% supplement it with other venues of healthcare.

Universal health care will not work in the United States.

There are no universal human rights.

A person's "rights" only exist so long as those around him acknowledge these rights as exists.

We may, as a society, agree that individuals have the right to "life," yet a individual from a different society may not recognize this right and have no problem violating it.

Nature does not recognize your right to property when she sends a hurricane.

There are no "natural" rights, only the rights we agree upon as a society. However, one could argue that the only natural right we have is the right to be protected and raised as infants, when we are physically helpless and incapable of taking care of ourselves. Outside of this, there are no natural rights.

Additionally, just because something is a "right" does not mean you are entitled to it for free. We have the right to bear arms, but that does not mean others must pay for our guns. We have a right to property, but we do not have the right to demand others give it to us.

Even if you ignore cost-related issues, US healthcare is mid-ranking at best.

It's mind boggling to me that Americans spend so much time defending a system that is objectively shit. You pay more than twice per capita what nations like the UK or Australia pay, and you still get worse healthcare. At this point it seems like the only reason Americans keep defending their system is out of simple stubbornness and an inability to admit that they've been wrong all these years and Europe, Canada, etc. has been right.

You know, now that I think about it it's actually quite amusing that Americans are dying out of sheer arrogance.

That's why healthcare in america is so expensive, the owners of the healthcare companies are profit driven, not healthcare driven, and the medial lobby is so powerful that extracting these parasites from the medical industry is damn near impossible.

The anon that posted the $14,000 bill for a cut on his hand is a prime example.

The doctor made maybe $300 from that "surgery", using about $50 worth of materials.

The other $13,650 goes to the company for doing fuck all.

>>
>>122145844
For emergency situations it is. I work on medical billing. It takes days or weeks for a patients initial emergency care to reach the point where it is being billed. If a patient is admitted for a critical emergency it might be 2 or 3 days before their insurance is even checked. The protocols Doctors, nurses and EMS are following in those situations are driven by life threatening medical events, not the patient's insurance or lack of.

Ive been in hospital and ambulance billing for the past 12 years

>Start under universal healthcare, involuntary single payer
>Wait forever to see a doctor, holding back my lifestyle and my business with a surgery I may need
>If I wasn't taxed I could afford the same market rate, and would actually end up cheaper

We who focus on our individualism and not bother others are brought down by the group mentality folks that demand I pay for everyone else's crap when I don't need it or want it. Otherwise I could face jail time.

If there could be exceptions on single payer income where I wouldn't pay because I rarely visit the doctor and mend my own wounds and treat my own sickness, I'd be OK with it. Just leave me alone.

Nowadays it seems people go to the doctor over every little sniffle and every little cold. Broke your leg? Put it in a stint and then your own cast. Break a hand or foot or ribs? That would definitely constitute professional help.

Birth? Get a midwife to make sure the bitch doesn't need a C-Section. Give natural birth and not end up paying a fuckton. If done right with a midwife's assistance(I paid $300 for one) there's little that can go wrong.

We as a society are pampered, and have not suffered enough. We are weak, and eventually our comfort will be our downfall.

Let's just take a simple look at this shit, right?

Let's say a doctor makes $300,000 a year, right?

Okay, so what is that per week?

at 52 weeks a year, that's $5769 per week... which is $1153 per day, or about $144 per hour.

A small surgery like what anon from above posted takes maybe 1-2 hours, max.

Hence, the doctor is making about $300 off of that surgery for his time.

And $50 for materials is an overestimate... rubbing alchohol, sanitization, gloves, needle, thread, gauze, paper towels, etc... you could probably add in the cost of water and electricity for the whole operation as well and it would still be below $50.

So, where does the other $13,650 go?
>>
>>122161079
but still, no one is getting 14k. The twitter post doesn't mention him paying 14k, or even what his deductible is. This dude would be charging 14k if he was in a private office setting if he used the same medical billing/coders

Why the fuck would you go to a doctor for a cut on the hand. Yes it can be risky to stitch yourself up and you have to deal with a bit of pain, but unless it's a super deep cut and you can't stop the bleeding you can mend it yourself. You have the knowledge of the world at your fingertips with the internet, and to prepare, buy a few $30 books or download some PDFs and videos and put them on an old iPod touch, keep it charged and in a safe box with SHTF documents.

It's the same principle as negotiating policy in diplomacy where you bring a billion pie in the sky ideas to the table to hopefully get exactly what you want

You're also forgetting the overhead cost for owning and operating a place of business, paying hourly employees, etc.

>>122162038
and you can blame Medicare for setting its guidelines for pricing, because a lot of private insurances follow them. They are the largest provider in the system. Now you can get into the whole secret cabal of who is setting prices, but no one really knows. All your regular doctor or hospital knows is what they will be reimbursed for a procedure and charge for it accordingly (again at a higher price than what they actually receive).

Doctors don't make that much money in a year unless they are cardiac or brain surgeons.
>>
>>122161569
there are a lot of other factors too. you have to pay nurses, and other hospital workers, too. also the doctor needs to have insurance, incase something goes wrong, and the patient sues for malpractice. also you have to pay or welfare whores who go to the hospital. the government only repays the hospital, around 77 cents on the dollar. one of my family members works in the billing department of a hospital, and these welfare bums love to abuse the system. there was this one girl wo called an ambulance because she had a stomach ache, and was brought to the hospital, was told she had to wait, threw a tantrum, and walked home, and guess who flipped the bill?

you have quite the twisted worldview, don't you.

Anyways, the taxes you pay don't just go towards something like healthcare nigger. You use electricity, don't you? You use roads and the interstate system, don't you?
You use all the goods and services afforded to a US citizen, don't you?

I swear half this board needs to take basic economics, at least without the jewish bullshit in most of it involved.

You know how the De Beers company artificially inflated the price of diamonds 2000x by buying up all other diamond companies and strangling the supply of diamonds going out of Africa?

Yeah, like that, but replace diamonds with doctors. The AMA has a legal monopoly, and they use that to decrease the supply of doctors to keep prices artificially high. Because we can't have doctors offering competitive prices. Oh no no no, that would destroy Judaism, and you anti-semites wouldn't want that, would you?

good point, but still, the board needs to understand why, at least in a non-jewish controlled system, taxes are an important part of why the country functions.

My mum works at a large hospital chain in the western US. The AMA pretty much sets the prices for the entire chain, operating from Alaska to Arizona, across states with wildly varying income. Wyoming got nigger'd by it because they're paying the same rates as Alaskans, who earn far more than Wyomingites. You have to be registered with the AMA to practice medicine at hospitals, meaning that THEY set the prices for you.

Kind of like De Beers setting the price of diamonds at roughly 2 months salary for the average worker.

I don't know if it was Obama, but it was certainly a recent president that passed a law basically enshrining the AMA and giving them a legal monopoly.

It's illegal to practice medicine at a hospital without the AMA's approval. Again, regulations are driving up the cost of services without making them significantly better or safer. You're still just as likely to get killed by a doctor's fuck ups as before, but now you pay the AMA and the doctor much more.

Nor should they do it for free.

250k seems a little steep, though.

Universities price fixing as well?

Honestly, I'm not concerned with doctors making 300k per year.

I'm concerned with stockholders making millions per year off of a doctors efforts, artificially inflating the cost of healthcare, and providing nothing of value to the exchange of goods and services.

Who pays for the health care then? Citizens? Why should I have to pay for your poor lifestyle resulting in your medical problems?

Or should we just force doctors into indentured servitude? Do you think that will attract the best and brightest to the field?

Face it chump, in a capitalist society you can't call anything a "right" that isn't already free to obtain.

Food isn't a right, if you don't work you don't eat. Shelter isn't a right, if you don't work you stay outside. Health care isn't a right, if you don't work you suffer your ailments.

Stop being a fag. Every country with successful universal healthcare is either tyrannical enough to make people behave right and not leech, or a small high IQ homogenous state. US is not and will never be either of those, our subhumans would ruin the system for everybody else.

The AMA is essentially a guild. They are one of two sponsors for the accreditation system for medical schools. They set standards for medical education, practice, ethics, etc. Congress empowers them by listening to their suggestions because they usually know what they are talking about. Of course they're also a lobbying group so they are inherently evil at times as you can see throughout their history

And again Congress rules over Medicare, which sets the examples for private insurers to follow
>>
>>122154402
And then the hospital passed off the costs to non-degenerates who actually pay for the services they use.

A right is only a right when it doesn't infringe upon other's rights, labor, or property.

thats why you have the right to free speech, not the right to a free computer.
thats why you have the right to own a gun, not the right to a free gun.

the liberal concept of granting "rights" where no rights clearly exist weakens the meaning of what a right really is. the Constitution is clearly specific in this, thats why excludes obviously necessary to human existence items like food and shelter. because if you want these things, then you need to go out there and earn them.

There is no Canadian health care. If you looked into a subject beyond the Jew news you'd find out health care is run on a per province basis. Most provinces are good but the dumb ones like cucktario and newfiestan fuck up like this and then the Jew news turns around and tells the blind retards about Canadian healthcare. Fuck it's cringey watching burger politicians talk about health care here when they don't even know it's all per province. There is no "Canadian health care" there is BC or Albertan or ontarian or Manitoban etc health care. As someone who has lived in multiple provinces you have to register for healthcare specific to that province.
Dumb. Fucks.

You generally only get fast service when it's life-threatening or an emergency.

When I broke bones (ankle, leg at different times) I was in for surgery within 24-48 hours.

If it's non-emergency surgery (but still inevitably necessary) it can take an extremely long time. My dad needed spine surgery due to a major back injury, but it wasn't life threatening, and he ended up waiting 6-8 months to get in to see a specialist.

It really just depends on the severity.
