So /pol/, what do you think about Elon Musk?
For some reason, this guy trips my Bullshit Detector every time I see or hear about him.
He is all he claims to be, or is the press out to lunch yet again, like with Trump or the AfD?

As far as I can tell, the guy spews BS wherever he goes and will never deliver on his promises.
>>
>>144390925
hes a libshit pro science pro rick and morty taxpayer money wasting fuck
all his kids are test tube babies fuck him
>>
Has anyone looked into this guy?
Is he successful without government grants?
For some reason, I get the feeling that his success is driven by handouts.
>>
>>144390925
why do uneducated, stupid people always hate on people more successful and smarter than themselves?

He's just another welfare nigger.

Hes a project to create a new age Ford.

So what's the statistical analysis that bases this sentence in reality?
>>
> this guy trips my Bullshit Detector every time I see or hear about him.
Because he's full of bullshit.
However, the battery factories seem to have some staying power. There is a small niche for those types of batteries in our eventual energy system. This niche is much, much smaller than Musk's dick-sucking legions believe, but it's there.
The rest is corporate welfare trash. He wants to be General Dynamics.
>>
>>144392541
I like your style. Do you have any points that I could deflate the Pro-Muskians with?
>>
>>144390925
His early success was legit, SpaceX is looking like it's going to be legit. Tesla, so far that's a welfare baby, along with his solar energy shit.

His first wife is a leftist piece of shit, so probably this green shit is zealotry. He bailed on Trump over climate bullshit. Lot of worthless leftist crap in some of his efforts.

He's the first right guy to use and abuse Amber Heard and then discard her, so a point there.

Kind of a mixed bag, but mostly pretty damn impressive. He had to get off the ground and he got there with PayPal on his own. If he can now milk leftists for public money and be a bilionaire, good for him.
>>
>uses 28k to fund zip2
>sells for 22m
>invests 10m into x.com (paypal)
>sells for 165m

for those who talk without even googling, holy fuck pol is stupid as shit
>>
His cars are really impressive though. My dad has one, and not only is the acceleration really awesome, but the auto pilot works really well too. Wasn't sure what to think about electric vehicles, but after using this one I actually want one. The only thing is that most electric vehicles are expensive at the moment. That will change eventually though, as more manufacturers focus on EVs.
>>
I don't respect him and laugh at how stupid he is.
>>
>>144394038
>His early success was legit, SpaceX is looking like it's going to be legit. Tesla, so far that's a welfare baby, along with his solar energy shit.
Yep, PayPal is what got Musk here and appears to be a legit success.

I'd lump in SpaceX with his other welfare babies though –– without NASA does he have any paying customers? Enough to keep the lights on at SpaceX?

He often has more optimistic predictions than what is probably true, but he has proven he is committed to what he's doing. Look how cheap he made the falcon 9. Hes the only one making it cheaper to go to space. whoever came up with the shuttle idea was the con artist
>>
>>144394453
We currently cannot send humans to the ISS without the Russians. He is working to change that, so not only will we not have to pay the Russians, but its the cheapest way into space since the space race began.
>>
>>144394038
>SpaceX is looking like it's going to be legit
Because Richard Branson and virgin's space effort has been so successful.
>>
>>144390925
He really believes in the things he talks about, and has created tech that even NASA will not have for atleast the next 10 years. On the other hand,
he does do dream about conquering the stars alot, but fails to see that if the current situation down here on Earth is not fixed, he (and everyone else) is getting nowhere with this.

tl;dr - A good man, but slightly blinded by his own narrow minded idealism.
>>
>>144395358
It's not my fault that NASA cheaped out at the end of the 70s and then spent two decades doing loops around the earth in low orbit in their stupid Space Shuttle.

He's currently making rockets much cheaper than it was before, and taking away our dependency on Russia to get to space. The most important part of space travel is cost. Would you rather us pay the Russians everytime we go to space? I swear, New Somalians are stupid.

>>
The problem with Elon Musk is the press goes apeshit over every little thing he tweets or says in casual conversation like "wouldnt it be cool if we had flying bicycles like in ET" then the next day headline is FLYING BICYCLES CONFIRMED - Says Elon Musk
>>
I like him. He's a futurist.

Only worry I have is that some of his statement have been a bit far out. I'd love to see him more based instead of seriously thinking we're in a simulation. But his imagination might be what makes him so successful!
>>
New Approach:
Can we simply pull a page out of the SJW playbook and accuse Elon Musk of being a white supremacist and racist? Obviously, if he loved the world, he would have tried to improve the lot of South Africa instead of defecting to the US of A.

It's also why uneducated and stupid people are allured by national socialism.

>>
>>144390925
This dude started and runs a company that shot a rocket into space and then returned it to land up right on a barge on the ocean....Bad ass. but I also have suspicions that he is a bit of a bull shitter.

Tesla has never made a profit in a market with little electric car competition. Seems unlikely they will make profits when the entire car industry is jumping into competition. However, this is ignoring the impressive battery technology that has implications beyond cars.

Hyperloop is a stupid idea, though i think he has distanced himself from this. Youtuber Thunderf00t describes this well.

Saying "hurr der not my fault!" Isn't a refutation of what I said. Him designing and building cheaper rockets is the most important advancement in Spaceflight for American since the moon landing. Every trip is paid by the government, and its not going to change until the cost is low enough. Funny how only now you have a problem with it.

You should pay more attention to the politics of your own country than the endeavers of American private businesses

>I assume if it was super-urgent, we could always use some black budget military rocket lifter somewhere.

So you dont like the government paying musk to build cheap rockets, but funding a super expensive black budget rocket that doesnt actually exist is ok?
>>
Personally, I perceive him as less of an innovator and more of a celebrity. I can't deny that he has some good ideas but people treat him like he's as revolutionary as Tesla. MSM just needs him to be "le smart scientist man" so that's what he does. Whether or not he'll actually use his money for good use remains to be seen.

Basically take what Musk says with a grain of salt, but don’t write him off.

He’s an excellent bullshitter and salesman, and he’s smart and knows his tech, but he isn’t the actual engineer designing anything.

Everything he’s done has been fucking batshit crazy, but he succeeds at the most important time. He’s got talent, bullshit, and more luck than a man should have.

>>144400285
Well, if you think about it, you have three doors and only one price. There are only three possible scenarios with your first selection:
1. you choose a goat
2. you choose a goat
3. you choose a car

When you make your choice, you have a 1/3 chance you made the correct choice. Just because one of the wrong choices is revealed afterwards does not actually make it a 50-50 choice, until it is actually made (again).

But to be honest, writing this up, it fucked my mind.

this formula destroys all nasa and space x fake launches:

Konstantin E. Tsiolkovsky has established that the change in velocity, Delta-v, of a spacecraft in vacuum space (no influence of gravity of adjacent planet Earth or the Sun) is a function of the mass ratio (spacecraft mass before, m0 and after, m1 firing the rocket engine, difference m0 - m1 being the fuel mass ejected as exhaust gas and the exhaust velocity ve of gas leaving the spaceship rocket nozzle.

Delta-v = ve ln (m0/m1)

note how it gets dark when the thrusters ignite, thats normal due to the exposure, but it stays dark even when the flames left the frame it doesnt get bright again. shortly afterwards the commentator even says "the sun set several minutes ago" 1:40 minutes after liftoff even though during liftoff it was still bright. my guess the editor edited it the right way in the beginning, and after the cut some other guy took on the work, saw its dark at the end and kept it and the commentators had to go with it

also "this is all a simulation goy. just like the bible says this was created, but no god, just some pleb outside the simulation. and no spiritual realm but another material one just like this one."
he sells you lowkey satanism goys

yes the formula explains it , u can use nasa "data" and you will alway see that numbers don't add up.
Von Braun and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky explained the correct way to travel to the moon and it was not the way NASA did it.

I get the same vibe aus you OP. Some of his ideas sound so fucking stupid like solar tiles for roofs and streets.

First of you can mount large solar panels on virtualy every roof already and large ones are cheaper than 3000 small ones.

Making floor tiles would be even more stupid. Shitty angle, coverd by dirt, dust, snow, leafes ect.

It feels like he makes bigger and bigger promises to keep his old ones. Classical ponzi scheme. One time in the future he wil be to big to fail and american taxpayers have to pay for all his pipedream ideas.

I had a class about numerical simulation of supersonic flow in nozzle.
The professor, a fucken superstar in the field, book author, consultant and so on, loved to randomly throw away anecdotal stuff about whatever the lecture was about.
Basically, few years ago at a conference with industrials, the professor get to listen to a talk given by Musk.
"It seemed he didn't know anything about what he was saying. He had a lot of nice videos and pretty pictures on his slides, but his knowledge level was about the same as an undergraduate. He's just a businessman who happen to read physics books."

But anyway, The M U S C C is richer than we will ever be and he's making big money while we shitpost online

So you dont want to answer the question? Ok fine, ill answer it for you

They pay SpaceX because its cheaper through them. How? Because SpaceX spent money on R&D to design rockets more efficiently. Nobody else has dont this. This cuts the cost of space missions.

If your concern is that the government is spending too much money going to space, then you dont know what the fuck you're talking about because SpaceX currently is saving us a lot of money. The alternative would cost more, which you are advocating for, which would undercut your whole position on spending.
>>
>>144405220
Don't you have new genders to invent, you degenerate?
>>
>>144405460
The problem is public money and private profits.
Get NASA to build the rockets.

Do you know what SpaceX can do right now?

They can launch a 20 ton payload into low earth orbit for $62 million.

You ask the Russians to do that, they'll want $114 million. Ask NASA, they won't be able to get it done for under $250 million.

That is the useful valuable thing that SpaceX does *right now* that is not a projection, pipe dream or product in development.

Products in development? Let's say you've got a badass 60 ton payload you want orbited, like a big chunk of a space habitat.

SpaceX claims they can put that thing in orbit by next year for $90 million. NASA's own projections are that they can do the same, by the year 2023, for $2.5 billion.

You can say what you want about Musk but this guy has succeeded in 4 industries that were completely failing privately. Online banking, solar, electric cars/batteries, and private space flights.

When this guy speaks I fucking listen. My money is on him to make it to Mars.

When other scientists were questioning how he will shield astronauts from radiation on Mars he basically dropped a red pill saying "so what". So what if an astronaut gets cancer at 60 instead of 80.

Guy has balls that clank when he walks. He's also doing more for humanity all the while battling everyone who doesn't want to see his technology win.

He basically has created technology for every single human to go completely off grid defying governments and other big corporations.

If you give your money to Musk he goes all in in whatever his next business venture is.
>>
>>144405667
So now you're concerned SpaceX is turning a profit?

Like I just said, it would be much more expensive for NASA to do it, SpaceX has accelerated the cost reduction of rocket manufactuing greatly. NASA has had decades to do what SpaceX did in a few years. You really want them in charge of making rockets?

>It'll let us do things in space!
>It can't go beyond LEO.
>We'll make money by doing commercial satellite launches!
>It'll never make money by doing commercial satellite launches.

This is without talking about the danger of the system.

The original Space Shuttle pitch was for a spaceplane that could launch into orbit, deliver its payload, land, have a cursory inspection, get new fuel tanks attached and launch into orbit again. It was going to be a "space truck" that opened up a new age of space exploration by making it very cheap and easy to throw massive amounts of material into orbit.

In practice, it was hardly reusable at all. It was a Ship of Theseus. Instead of being ready to go 48 hours after it landed, it required six to nine months of every single system being inspected and rewired, and every single custom ceramic tile removed and replaced, and it still managed to kill two crews. It cost approximately $450 million per launch, in fact much more expensive than any rocket that just gets thrown away (like the $90 million Soyuz that was its chief competitor and outlived it)

And in spite of these failings being obvious as soon as the first flight, hundreds of billions of dollars continued to be poured into it over the next 30 years.
