And why should it be German rather than French?

P.S. no, it cannot be English as this would favor only Ireland and Malta, two completely irrelevant countries

Secondary language skills are irrelevant. We have 120 million native German speakers or close to native. Post-Brexit we will have 4 million native English speakers in the EU. Secondary languages can be tought in school, in 15 to 20 years, we can have 50 percent of all Europeans speak German. And then we can also rename the EU to be called the New Holy Roman Empire of the German Nations as planned since 1952.

I explained it above. As a long term strategy you want to use the language which is used the most as the native language, as that means fewer people will have to learn the official language as a secondary language.

It makes zero sense to use English if 99 percent of the population don’t use it as their native language.

No. German is actually a very reasonable language to learn. There are no weird “sounding rules”, i.e. every single letter you write, you speak. This makes German incredibly easy to learn if you are a visual learner and a lot harder if you are more of an audio focused learner.

German allows you to be a better engineer too, as the language is way more precise than most other languages, especially more than English.

I speak German, English, French, some Italian and some Russian. I also learned Latin. So I can compare and as a lawyer I have also been dealing with double row contracts (mostly English-German, but sometimes also English-French) and no matter what, the German rows are always longer as the choices of words and phrases need to be more precise - often you have to revise the English as well, because at first you drafted things imprecisely without realizing it.

That’s like saying we should all use Microsoft Windows because people made the bad decision to use it years ago and we should’t switch to Unix based systems which are better, more intuitive, more stable and secure.

Sorry, but people who only learned English and no German made a mistake. They have the choice to learn German or just not be able to follow official EU discussions. I think this is just fair.
>>
Primarily the country's language. Eg Danish. But English required too, as to access most of the world's information/communicate with the rest of the world.

Otherwise pool resources so translators work well enough to use. Since phones are carried around by most they can do the translation. Earbuds or implants can transmit the translations from the phone.
Contact lenses could also work to display subtitles.

Keep the local language. Maybe try to develop a superior language for everyone.
Earbuds/implants could work well in getting rid of stupefying language eg swear words, rap music, newsmedia. Forcing the rest to say something worth a damn if they want to be heard. Maybe even force language to be musical, non repetitive.

A girl I knew learnt latin, that could help. In general though it's preferable to know one language to a very high standard then to have multiple ones. Communication is best done without words.

There is one more point to consider that most people forget. It is actually an economic problem for Europe to lose high skilled people to America or Britain. If people learned German before English, this would create an incentive to stay and work within the EU rather than the Anglosphere - helping Europe to gain strength in the future. And as you day, outsiders could also finally learn German in school and say “this makes sense, as I can then move anywhere in Europe to use it”.

That is correct. There's this guy who explaines this well based on DNA analysis. German is a vastly superior language.

Verb's on the end so it forces you to concentrate more.

J'ai vole une fleur bleu
I've stolen a blue flower
Ich habe eine blaue blume gestahlen

Because after all it's usually the verb which is the most important word as it's describing the action - the adjective the least.

Romance languages give you the most important information first so you're already starting to interpret what's happening before the end of the sentence.

In German you have to stop and pay attention until you have the full sentence - so that's why they have work ethic and structural thinking.

Many foreigners also find the language interesting and/or beautiful, look at Tolkien. One of his Elven languages was based on Finnish. The point I'm trying to make is taste is different for all people, I'm just interested in the facts.

Also when I talked about being able to spell a word I've never heard before I didn't mean foreigners can also automatically spell it obviously, that would make no sense. Of course you'll have to learn the phonetics and the very basics of spelling in the language first.

>Also your vocabulary looks menacing
Like what? The very bizarrely long word you just copy pasted, which consists of several words bunched together much like the German style? That's not a very normal word in our vocabulary. You're also going back to subjective things now again. ''Oh no, that word scares me!'' and then someone else might say ''Why? I think that's awesome''. Subjective.

I rather wanted to learn Russian in school, but people convinced me French was so much more important “in Africa”. Only many years later I realized why people ask you to study these languages... it is a way to permanently adopt liberalism in your life.

German is a hard language and rather harsh in its sound. This actually doesn’t allow it to be used by liberals in socialist or SJW slogans which is why they use English instead with signs like “Refugees welcome”, in German this slogan actually makes you reflect much more on the actual meaning.

By 2050, everyone below age 50 would speak German then, English may still be important on a world stage, but Europe would have a solid basis for a common language that doesn’t allow Pakistanis or Indians or Africans or Arabs etc. to easily get a foothold in Europe.

As a native German speaker who had to learn French and Italian afterwards, German is the worst fucking language in existance apart from English. But, it's almost impossible to learn the genders if you're a native speaker of a language that has assigned genders to objects differently. So English is much easier to learn in this regard.

We have a winner.

Nah its not the gender chances with every latin language.
Like for example the word for tree in Italian and French its gender is not the same.

And its almost always defined due to cultural or historic perception.
>>

Depending on the Italian, they can even be incomprehensible when they speak Italian. Don‘t talk to Sicilians, that‘s the rule of thumb.

Unlike German, the Latin language doesn‘t change the rules every 10 years. How many „F“s are in the word combination „Schiffahrt“ exactly? Because depending on who you ask it could be two, three or three with an „S“ between the second and third.
>>
>>168194378
The endings mostly determine the gender. You don’t need to remember the gender of each word, you can be right on 95 percent of the genders by just remembering a hand full of ending correlations.

Compare that with irregular verbs in English which have to be memorized with little help to rules.
>>
>>168194316
They totally sound the same, no joke.

Which in European countries is practically the same with little exceptions.

Italian requires extremely precision in modal expression as is full of shades in discourse. Also the vocabulary is immense and the average italian guy only know half of it.

You can comprehend it if you follow football:

https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/01/23/lost-in-translation-why-the-italian-game-is-never-the-same-in-english/

> "passing" translate into "fraseggio", which doesn't means moving the ball from player to player, but literally "composing a kind of poetry" or "make a plural of voices to chat between themselves".

You can't understand the real meaning of "fraseggio" if you don't get it philosophically or artistically.

That's why Italian is so hard to understand in it's modal shadiness and makes uncomfortable foreign speakers.
>>
>>168194684
Why is this relevant. We're talking about Europe here, not South America and A*rica.
>>
>>168194689
English have some words like we always call a ship feminine, there she is/ she sails off
>>
>>168194774
It's better because it's a better candidate for a universal language. You don't have to change your object-gender perception if you're coming from a different language.
>>
>>168194689
It's obvious based on what letter the word ends.
In mine - A is female, O, I and E are neutral and pretty much anything else is male.
There are exceptions ofcoures like ST being female or foreign words
I belive it's quite similar in latin languages.
>>
>>168194478
The point is that a European Union with German as an official language would result in 500 million German speakes in the EU and likely a lot of secondary German lanuage speakers outside fhe EU resulting in popular German language message boards just as there are e.g. Chinese language boards. That is why there are no Chinaman on this board (it is not just about the Great China Firewall).

French obviously. German is fucking gay.

These three words you mention follow other rules. Brot is a thing, thus it is of neutral gender. Der Idiot is male because all “humans” are male (no joke) in German (der Mensch) and Not is feminine because it is a concept, not a thing.

Jesus Christ, didn’t you have German grammar in school?

Languages that don’t assign genders to words lose a lot or culture. It also makes you suseptible to liberal “gender fluid” degeneracy. The whole “gender fluidity” discussion in the US and UK never made it to Germany because in our language it just doesn’t make sense. It is Die Frau and Der Mann and Das Mädchen. Der is no hybrid for genders.

Der Tod is a concept as well, my dear Germanic friend. Like I said, only a native speaker can forget that German is basically a rule book with an exeption list double the size of said rules. A lot of things you use in your daily life make zero sense, which is why most regional dialects don‘t even use all the tenses.
>>
>>168195015
Yea the exceptions are rare i think you really only have to take note if word starts with a/i/e/u if you to put "an" instead of an a.

Of course there are more.

But check out Dutch its almost grammatically the same like English and gender neutral.

But we got stuff Zij is daar(she is there) and then this Zij zijn daar(They are there) so it changes from calling She to They as a group.

And a lot more of these shenanigans.
Not to mention our spelling

Sicilian is miles similiar to how correct italian should be pronounced, and for historical reason: Italian poetry was born in Sicily then florentines studied it making their, then lumbards studied the florentines.
And I'm not referring to Sicilian Poetry (sicilian is a different language itself, and it's even older than italian), I'm literally saying that italian poetry started in Sicily so there was the first center of "cultura studies" about vulgar artistic expressions:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_School

Instead, take the piemontese: it's not even italian is clearly a french dialect. Or the languages of Sardinia and Venice which are clear different languages from italian.

>>168194618

That's because we kept the ecclesiastic pronunciation of words aka the Medieval or the "Last Latin" which is the closest to ur language.

To us, when you speak Latin you sound like an redneck trying to speak a foreign language.

With Greek it happened the inverse: we kept classical pronunciation from Arabs scholars, while England imported byzantine one after Turks invaded the Empire, therefore making them sounding more in line with modern Greek.

I think the only inanimate objects as far as I'm aware in English which have even any notion of having genders are ships...

Google says:

>A ship is called a she because there is always a great deal of bustle around her; there is usually a gang of men about; she has a waist and stays; it takes a lot of paint to keep her good-looking; it is not the initial expense that breaks you, it is the upkeep; she can be all decked out; it takes an experienced man to handle her correctly; and without a man at the helm, she is absolutely uncontrollable. She shows her topsides, hiders her bottom and, when coming into port, always heads for the buoys.”
