Is it just a meme? Late millennial here just hit my 40s and work at a dead end job with no benefits and make like 29k a year. I like computers and tech and was wondering if a programming certificate. Can I get a better job with this?
>>520196014Kek don't even think about it
>>520196014lol noAI is going to replace all junior coders in 1 year, and most senior coders in 2-3 years
Let them eat cake = Learn to code
We are looking at the complete eradication of "programmer" as a career by the end of 2027. You might want to look into the technician side of things because I think it will take an extra year or so to get the robots online.
>>520196014You are ten years too late. Let me guess, you just found out about Bitcoin too?
>>520196014Should've followed the jeets and gone into coding. I guarantee you will be better than any of those clowns.>>520195770
>>520196014That depends, are you a jeetstain?
>>520196014That ship has sailed a long time ago. You have software engineers with years of experience but still can't find a job years after getting fired.
>>520196511Worse, you have software engineers who invented programming languages who can't get a job using the programming language they invented.
>>520196014It was a good idea in the 90's, not anymore though. It's fully oversaturated as a market. Don't go into coding unless you're gonna make something yourself.
It's cool to think about when you're a lazy teenager>wow I can just sit in front of my PC in my bedroom all day? THAT'S LIKE SOOOO COOOL!in reality if you do it for 10-15-20 years you will ruin your eyesight, posture, get all sorts of sedentary induced diseases. Not to mention looking at code for 10-12 hours per day will buck break your brain. Just read some books and get a superficial understanding of the terms and concepts and try to get into sales or account manager position. You just have to learn to talk for long periods of time about nothing and have the ability to make simple tasks sound extremely complex.
>>520196220My dad was in law enforcement and knew about bitcoin in 2009. And never said anything to us never invested and just gave talks about it to his stoggy glowop friends.
>>520196014start griftmaxxing
>>520196014You have better chance learning welding.
>>520196014learn2code was what we were told when we were kids dumbass you missed the gravy train, the fuck were you doing? i was writing computer code on notebook paper as a kid at school and i couldn't wait to get home to type it up and try it out. those were the days, weren't they, faggot? haha, remember when we were allowed to say that? i bet ya do, ya fuckin' retard! -41
Just become a nurse desu
>>520196014>1 post by this id>lazy Google search .jpgsage this shit
>>520196014it's not the free-for-all it used to be but if you're good at what you do and find a niche you can still command a high compensation. my advice would be to be more open to opportunities, be willing to relocate, and try to think about how your next job could help you gain skills and be a springboard for future career growth. as long as you don't have any significant criminal history, 40 is still plenty of time to start over. and from the sounds of it, you are actually ahead of the curve, no divorce/alimony/child support, no massive student debt, hopefully no credit cards... all your fingers and toes... so it could be worse. it can always be worse. i would look at construction, again with an open mind toward relocating if needed. or fabrication, large ship builders and others are hiring, electrical, welding, plumbing, etc. they will train you and pay you while they do. not a lot of people are willing to punch a clock these days, so places like boeing and bath iron works will hire smart people and train them. you can put in 20 years and make a solid living, with lots of growth potential. as for coding certificates, they are not as valuable as a solid github or other portfolio that demonstrates knowledge and experience. take advantage of AI coding tools and build something cool. learn how to host it yourself. put it up and make a website. add your resume to that, send that to your prospective tech employer. a certificate is nice to add to that. but having something to show your skills is even better.good luck, and keep at it.
>>520196014IT was perfect in the 90's till probably end of 00's.My guess is forget about it this days, peole still fall for the learn to code meme in the age of AI.I mean there are iches here ad there but overall is saturated and even those niches will eventually dry out soon.
>>520196014The tech bubble is about to brust and even the people who been in the tech for years are going to find themselves out of a job. Sure join in and fuck yourself. But seriously learn a trade, something a computer can't just do. So learn pumbling, or electrical work over programming. Though if you do want to do something with computers. Maybe go for being a technican. Would have a better shot. Though to be fair, you still going to fight an uphill battle now.
>>520197907Man I just like tech and wasted my youth I don't csre about landing some 200k a year job I'd be happy with 60 to 70k instead of 29k. I don't want to go into construction at all. I currently work in an adjacent industry to construction and I hate it. I don't want to die with no savings, but I am barely paying my bills now and I'm not stupid I just squandered all opportunities for pussy and status before now. I have a family to worry about now, if I don't start making more money my kids will be the weird poor kids with second hand clothes.
>>520199139Well if I knew how to make websites even half way decent I could've cleaned up on meme coin sites this year with my networking I know plenty of people that were paying for web dev all last year, harder to find the work now but I still know a few people, if I got better skills than Ai slop sites then I could still make money free lancing on telegram.
>>520196014The days of “loving your job” are over. Thanks to body cams it’s not even fun being a cop anymore. Come on over to the post office; it’s not that bad. Or any government job, really.
>>520196014For any real anons with OP’s question: Learn cyber security, coding and OSINT. Focusing on CyberSec, but learn all. We will always need people who can laterally think the way AI cannot.
>>520201965Thank you for the only real response itt
>>520200019 you didn't 'waste your youth'. you have a family. doesn't sound wasted. look into chip fab, texas instruments is always hiring. great entry level, non-coding, but well compensated. i don't know what state you're in, but relocate if you have to. lots of companies are making chips here. working in a clean room environment, you can expect to have decent benefits and fair compensation. the bespoke $70k/year coding jobs are there, but think more along the lines of your local university tech department not something remote at a 'tech' company. the world is your oyster. i would just encourage you to be open to all opportunities. you never know where they might end up. and always try to be gaining skills, not mater what the job. sometimes this entails volunteering to do extra work, but put in the sweat and it will probably pay off.
>>520196014>programming certificatekys retard
>>520196014that ship has long sailed. AI has completely destroyed the entry level opportunities
>>520203078I'm in Tennessee
>>520196014Learn to code only if you want to fuck around and make your own programs or games with it. Then maybe you'll be comfortable enough to monetize it.
>>520203226But don't you have to know something about coding still to make relevant code with Ai? Like know how to prompt it correctly isn't just "hurr durr make me a website that does xyz"
>>520203641That's really what I want to do, but home is not a good environment for me to learn in and I'm just better in a structured environment. That's why I want to actually take classes.
>>520203597If you're actually serious learn C and focus on memory and simd.>inb4 retards will say C and memory management is old and no one does it anymorethat's precisely why programs are so fucking bloated and shit
>>520203676Knowing how to prompt AI is profoundly different than coding, similar to knowing how to use search engines(because that's all "AI" really is). It is a valuable skill because it's a way of thinking that builds a fundamental understanding of how systems make decisions.
>>520196014Have you written a single line of code your entire life?If the answer is no, then there is no point starting in your 40s. I can ask ChatGPT to code for me, and it can debug its own code.
>>520197907>40 is still plenty of time to start over.Bro no its not.>t. Elder Oldfag
>>520203745>That's really what I want to do, but home is not a good environment for me to learn in and I'm just better in a structured environment. That's why I want to actually take classes.then you're fucked bud. if you cannot program at home by yourself by your own volition, you will never like programming at all ever
>>520203977I have dabbled in some python and html and Css, but when I did those basic tutorials I liked it is all I'm saying. I know Ai is replacing a lot of this stuff, but I've heard from other crypto traders during the Ai meta how easy it is to vibe code and they made some pretty cool stuff but they also knew how to code before that and had general ideas of how to approach making whatever app they were developing. I don't want to just vibe code with no actual knowledge on coding. I want to be able to use ai but in a meaningful way with the proper knowledge to make actually useful and cool applications.
>>520203745ai can indeed create some useful things especially tampermonkey extensions. If you truly want to code I recommend Bro Codehttps://www.youtube.com/@BroCodezhe is pretty succinct and clear
>>520204167OK what I'm saying is the learning part, right now I have small children which makes focusing on learning the material hard, but they will soon be in school so I'll have a chance to maybe get some time to focus once I learn.
>>520204403I'll check it out thanks bro.
>>520196014First you should see whether you are competent with automating parts of your life using AI. If you can make that work then you can get a job after teaching yourself something. But if you cant swing it with AI, then I wouldnt bother. Coding is way fucking hjarder than getting into AI.
>>520203597Pratt and Whitney, Raytheon, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, L3 Harris, Collins Aerospace, Triumph Aerostructures, Beretta USA, Eaton Corp., Standard Aero Alliance, Honeywell, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, BAE Systems Ordinance, Lockheed, and Bell Helicopters all have presence in TN, I don't know if any of them are near you, but these companies aren't going anywhere, they have lots of different openings in all kinds of areas, often many entry-level opportunities. Most offer some kind of on-the-job skills training. If you work there for 10 years and learn the skills, you can open up your own plumbing, electrical, sheet metal, etc. business. At the very least see what kind of jobs are available and what the pay looks like, then you can decide if you want to apply. Tech hiring, especially entry level, is not very hot right now. Lots of experienced guys have been laid off, so competition is also high. I know there are jobs for people willing to do them, but they're going to involve a lot busting your hump. Try to find something that looks appealing and start aggressively searching, see what's out there and give yourself some ideas. you can find something if you put your mind to it.
>>520196014>Late millennial here just hit my 40sLast millennials were born in mid 90's. Either they stopped teaching math at schools, you are too stupid to learn it or you aren't late millennial.
>>520196603Those kikes were given specific orders to tell us not to invest BTW. I know this cuz I had the same encounters with glowies who insisted you shouldnt invest in it back then.Or maybe it was just boomers being booemrs lmao I like to exaggerate it tho cuz it’s more interesting
>>520204618Wdym automating parts of my life? Nigga I work 48 hours a week and spend the rest of the time with my two toddlers. What am I supposed to do program a robot arm to change my son's diaper every hour?
>>520204436>but they will soon be in school so I'll have a chance to maybe get some time to focus once I learn.Again if you're actually serious, school or classes isn't going to teach you anything useful, they have not been useful in many years. This is because they changed what colleges teach. Very rarely do they focus on anything actually useful. >t. Dual PhD in AI and Robotics. (All focused in computer science)Seriously anon, if you want to program follow my advice, I wouldn't lead you astray. Follow "Handmade Hero" completely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5fNrmQYeuI&list=PLnuhp3Xd9PYTt6svyQPyRO_AAuMWGxPzU&index=1If you follow this series you will be a significantly better programmer than 99% of us.
>>520204726I bought 0.25 in 2016 for 250 bucks roughly. Everyone said I was dumb and it would be outlawed soon because of silk road and all that shit. Lmao they're all extremely salty when I bring it up these days.
>>520204916Thanks man I'll check this out too.
>>520204352You need to work with AI first to determine if you can make your life easier first. Right now i’m working on building my own local stuff so I can automate my life. Security cams etc watched by AI…
>>520201133>Come on over to the post office; it’s not that badDepends on where you end up. There's lots of shitty bids and then theres great ones thwt you luck out into. Its a decent place for old losers with no prospects like myself to make a good wage.
>>520204765If you can make it work, then it will help you do shit Like automating sec cams. That’s what I’m starting with and then moving onto other aspects. An AI can learn how you learn, snd then compile lesson plans tailored for you so that you can learn something 10x faster than you would have on your own
>>520204988casey muratori the guy who made handmade hero is a legit legend, learning from him is 1000% who I send to anyone who wants to learn programming.
>>520205175I see OK I'll do some digging on that
>>520205267Appreciate the info guys, I want to continue to learn as I get older keep my brain active anyways even if it doesnt result in a huge pay difference.
>>520206235Casey is like a John Carmack or similar legend. While not as well known, Casey's software and approach is probably some of the best. Good luck to you friend, and it's marathon, not a sprint. Take it easy.
>>520196014Mechanic here I make 45k a year. I’m already thinking of CRIMINALMAXXING and opening up chop chop. If our political leaders are robbing Americans why can’t I?
>>520206971Reported for antisemitism
>>520196098>and most senior coders in 2-3 yearsnope. i've tried them all (gemini, claude, gpt, etc) and they're ok for about 20 minutes, then they shit the bed. LLM's have a top-end limit to what they can do and we have nearly reached it. even when we do reach it, they will never be able to do any significant programming. now AGI's might threaten us, but they are decades away from agi.
>>520207347AGI will never happen.
>>520207247Yes and I’m Hispanic, catholic and I don’t give a fuck about Jews
>>520196599>in reality if you do it for 10-15-20 years you will ruin your eyesight, posture, get all sorts of sedentary induced diseases.lol no. i've been doing it for 40+ years, and have none of those issues. you're just a gay robot.
>>520196014>Is it worth ?Yes.>Will you get better job ?Probably not.We have interns that have like CS but they are dumb they think if they just can repeat what they were thought in class and that's like good enough... they are not capable of thinking on their own and if they somehow are the job they get is usually fixing database or coding some miniscule shit features that will drain them psychically and physically. What im trying to say it's mostly shitty job and you have to be really good to end up on good position and have a luck for company that actually invest into you other then that you are pretty much fucked because some fat rich fuck that doesn't know shit will usually get internally hired to better position then you.
>>520207506heh you're probably right.
>>520203676yes. vibe coding has severe limitations. eg: a newb might be able to get a simple website built, but when you go beyond that, you definitely need to know how to program to get anything even remotely useful from ai.
>>520207509Based spic
>>520207626Entry level still has to be better than 29k though right? In America that is
>>520196014You can't compete with jeetslop or AI slop, so you would have to specialize in something like robotics, network security, or embedded control systems. Ideally somewhere with a citizenship requirement like a defense contractor or the government.
>>520196014You're going to have to get a trade and do some regular ass work.Tech is a dead end.
>>520196014I tried this in 1999 when I was 23 and working retail. No. Even then, jeets had all the low to mid level IT jobs in this country. Now they even have the high level jobs as well.Honestly, there's a chance you could get a low level IT job like data entry, cyber security (Lots of Shaneequa's in that though) or tech support if you're really lucky, but from what I hear from my friends is that if you're white, you're always going to be getting shit flung at you. Lots of toxicity. Your mileage may vary.
