Normally the process is the I-129F petition, which USCSIS / DHS approves and then your fiancee schedules an interview at the embassy / consulate in their home country. After that they get a K-1 vista and come to the US to marry you within 90-days.

Once married, you can do an immediate adjustment of status (this green card application) which takes 8-14 months. While the application is in progress and pending ("open case") they can remain in the country legally even if the K-1 visa is only valid for a shorter time span.

Considering we had to wait >9 months for the I-129F alone, I do not consider this a big avenue for immigration issues. How long does a H1B take? Or asylum abusers.

I've known my fiancee for over 5 years and made numerous trips to Thailand and across Asia with her. That's actually part of the I-129F process you have to prove your relationship and that you've physically met at least once.

Just like for me, marrying a Thai I know about buddhism. I always thought the architecture and concepts were interesting and to me they meld well with Christian values (I was raised Catholic but not overly religious).

Malaysia is not bad, I would consider their muslim aspects to be a lot more secular. Kind of like comparing Turkey to other places.

Singapore is also a good country, as is Hong Kong and Taiwan (for now). They are the more western friendly Chinese-adjacent.
