Yes the first anime I ever watched subbed online was a magical girl show and for awhile they were all I would watch. I don't watch them as much anymore but they hold a special place in my heart.

It's alright in moderation, but as a whole I don't.

Is Madoka even a mahou shoujo anime? Never saw Homuru talking about defending people's smiles or protecting their hearts. Mostly just edgy stuff like what little boys are into.

I had it in mind one day to write a story about a salaryman who gained the ability to turn in to a magical girl, and thus started fighting monsters as a "side job". He subsequently ends up meeting a pair of other, regular magical girls and has to go out of his way to keep her true form a secret from them, which is naturally difficult since the other girls wants to be friends with their new commrade and keep trying to invite him/her to do a bunch of feminine bonding with them.

I never got to putting it on paper, and I doubt I will, but it's been floating around for a while.
>>
magical girl (male) > gender bender magical girl
>>

Because it's the correct spelling of the plural form of English word anime which means Japanese cartoon. Not to be confused with Japanese word anime which means cartoon in general, and as such includes western animation as well.

Anime is plural and the word has no relation to cartoons. It's the shortened form of animeeshon.
>>
>>1902549
animation = cartoons
>>
>>1902555
Cartoons are a type of animation. This is like saying vehicles are cars.
>>
>>1902558
Where are you even going with this? It's barely even tangentially related to animes being the plural of English word anime.
>>
>>1902559
I'm not going anywhere with it, I just pointed out that anime doesn't mean cartoons. And that anime is already plural.
>>
>>1902561
Japanese word anime might be plural, but English word anime isn't. In English, plural is animes.
>>
>>1902566
In English anime is plural.
>>
>>1902567
No, in English anime is singular. Animes is plural.
>>
>>1902571
Nope.
>>
>>1902572
English language is capable of differentiating between singular and plural forms.
>>
>>1902572
Anime is not word in Japanese, アニメ is. So there's plural, yes. Because it's english word.
>>
>>1902574
>>1902575
The plural of anime is anime.
>>
>>1902577
Anime is english word and there are plurals in english. Plural is animes. You don't need to use it on internet but you would have to in essay.
>>
>>1902578
The fact that plurals exist in English is irrelevant, because the plural of anime is still anime. Academic texts dont write "animes" either, or "otakus."
>>
>>1902577
Is there any real reason why you believe the rules of English language with regards to singular and plural form should be ignored for this specific word, or are you just stubbornly repeating yourself because you've heard so many other illiterate weebs do the same?
>>
>>1902586
anime is plural though
>>
>>1902586
The plural of anime is anime.
>>
>>1902588

>>
>>1902577
>>1902578
Language rules are formed through repeated use and acceptance. It's a new word in English so you could probably find circles where "animes" is accepted, but in a place like this it's more often considered wrong. Actually, you are actively helping to define the correct usage with this stupid argument.

Personally, I think that using "anime" to describe an individual work of anime is as stupid as calling a song a "music," and likewise with the plurals.
>>
>>1902588
>>1902589
Why do you refuse to answer my question?
>>
>>1902594
Because your question irrelevant projection. The plural of anime is anime.
>>
I was like "what the fuck" and then oh people got into an actual argument over 'animes'. Dorks, you could be watching anime instead of arguing over something so trivial.
>>
>>1902593
Is it stupid to call an individual cartoon a cartoon, or call an individual game a game?
>>
>>1902597
Usually when you make a statement, you're supposed to back it up with reasoning behind it. You refuse to explain why the English word anime should ignore normal English language rules with regards to singular and plural forms. You can make a billion "plural of anime is anime" posts, but unless you provide some kind of reasoning why that is the case, all you're doing is spamming the thread with gibberish.

It is not required for dictionary entries apparently. You're free to provide me with an online source that says "animes" is the more correct plural, though. Even my fucking spellchecker underlines the word.
>>1902644
What?
>>
>>1902662
It doesn't matter what spellcheckers or any random online dictionary ran by amateurs says. When a loan word enters English language it is supposed to use English language morphology.

The word thug comes from Marathi language. Does that mean we shouldn't use thugs as its plural form? Orangutan comes from Malay. Is orangutans wrong? Robot comes from Czech. Is robots wrong? Apartment from Italian, is apartments wrong? Yo-yo from a Phillipine language, is yo-yos wrong? Horde from Mongolian, is hordes wrong? Slave from Latin, is slaves wrong?

Holy fuck, as someone already mentioned, moose correct plural form is moose, it's not mooses. Don't pretend that english isn't a fucking abomination of a language that has more exceptions to the rules than the fucking rules themselves, especially when it comes to plural foms. I've provided a dictionary source, I've personally observed in common usage that anime is more commonly used while "animes" is shunned, meanwhile you have nothing but this peculiar and completely wrong misconception that slapping an s on a word to form the plural form is correct in all cases.
>>
>>1902704
Not in all, plenty of exceptions like man men, goose geese, etc. Anime isn't a word like that, though. The reason people are forcing an exception for anime is out of their own ignorance, which is why I have a beef with it. They seem to believe that since it's a loanword you're supposed to use the morphology of the language it was loaned from, even though that is factually wrong in like 99.999% cases. If you're someone like >>1902605 who uses it because it sounds better to him then fair enough, use anime, animee, animez, whatever, I don't care, but don't pretend to be a grammar nazi when you know jack shit about grammar.
>>
>>1902719
>anime isn't a word like that
And why it isn't a word like that? Why not say mooses? English is an arbitrary shitstew of a language, but that's besides the point, dictionaries at the end of the day do not prescribe word usage, they merely record how words are being commonly used, and anime is the more commonly used plural, rather than animes.
>>
>>1902728
If you're going to say that English is a meme language so might as well ignore the rules and use whatever you want, then yeah, you can use anime as plural. But using that same reasoning you can also use animes as plural. I don't really have a problem with that. I have a problem with people trying to force the use of the term anime as plural out of their own bad understanding of English language and how it works. You can't be both a rulefag and complain about the term animes. Either both anime and animes are fine, or (if you're a rulefag) only animes is, but you can't say anime is fine and animes is wrong.
>>
>>1902738
You say samurai, you don't say samurais, you say sushi, you don't say sushis, but somehow animes is the correct plural form of anime. So I ask of you again, show me a dictionary that says animes is the more correct plural form. All I've found points to the contrary.

Here, even the oxford dictionary states that anime is a mass noun, meaning the correct plural is anime, but I guess they're just a bunch of amateurs amirite?
>>1902751
I'm sorry for shitting up the thread, but someone was wrong on the internet.
>>
>>1902750
Loanwords adapt the morphology of their new language, they do not use the morphology of the language they came from. This is how languages work. Animes is the correct term, even if anime is more popular.

>>1902758
That definition is talking about anime is a style of animation.
Anime as in artstyle is a mass noun. Anime as in an animated work originating in Japan is not.

>Loanwords adapt the morphology of their new language
But that's not fucking true, cacti, aquaria etc. are all correct plurals, despite using latin morphology. Sometimes the latin plural form is the only one that's correct, like algae, you don't fucking say algs do you?
>This is how languages work.
No, this is how languages work
>anime is more popular
Given that it's more commonly used, or rather, it's the only plural used by 99,9% of all publications is pretty good fucking indication that that's the correct form.

>>1902770
>That definition is talking about anime is a style of animation.
Anime as in artstyle is a mass noun. Anime as in an animated work originating in Japan is not.

Oh, Jesus just fuck off already and admit you are wrong you stubborn retard. Here, have another dictionary entry, cambridge says it's both an uncountable and countable noun. You've yet are to provide even one reference that "animes" is the more correct plural. I'm going to bed now, maybe you'll find something in the mean time.

Latin words are often excepted for historical reasons, and even they are not always. See: forum/forums, appendix/appendices, etc. Anime as a word is barely a couple of decades old.
>No, this is how languages work
Go talk to your high school English teacher and she'll tell you the same thing. Or just look up any of the literally 99.999% loanwords that are not excepted from the rule.
>Given that it's more commonly used, or rather, it's the only plural used by 99,9% of all publications is pretty good fucking indication that that's the correct form.
No? Dictionaries record the words used, they don't make them. Look at words like, say, "woke" (sorry for using a political term, not trying to make any kind of political message here one way or another), they're acknowledged in dictionaries because they're used in real life. You said it yourself a couple of posts ago, so I don't understand why now you're trying to use it as proof.
>Oh, Jesus just fuck off already and admit you are wrong you stubborn retard.
Why are you getting so angry over a subject you know nothing about? You don't know how morphology works, you don't even know what mass nouns are and what makes them mass nouns. I'd understand if you were say a linguistics student and you're getting mad over someone spreading ignorance on the internet, but you don't even know anything and you've been halfassedly googling this entire discussion trying to find arguments that back your claims up.
>>
>>1903146
>anime is barely a couple of decades old
How is that relevant? Why couldn't anime be a mass noun as well? Sushi is, and being of japanese origin it's not particularly old either.
>Or just look up any of the literally 99.999% loanwords
What is that supposed to prove?
>No? Dictionaries record the words used, they don't make them.
Yes, and being that the word anime is more or less entirely used by the anime fandom, they looked at online publications that talk about anime and dictionaries like oxford have come to the conclusion that anime is a mass noun, as evidenced here >>1902809 (You)
where none of the examples are "animes".
> Look at words like, say, "woke" they're acknowledged in dictionaries because they're used in real life.
Woke is an actual word though. And when dictionaries make note of its alternate usage, they mention it's a chiefly informal US thing. Almost all dictionaries either mention that anime is either an uncountable noun, an uncountable noun and countable noun, with the latter being less widely used and thus less correct, but none of them say that "animes" is the correct plural of the word.
You don't need to be a linguistic student to back up your claims by dictionaries or to simply notice that all major sites that deal in anime, physical anime publications and other media outlets treat the word as an uncountable noun. You however, have provided nothing to back up your claims other than parroting "morphological rules" that are inconsistent as fuck even when it comes to native english words.

Unfortunately, the books are where the real fun stuff starts, and when Snow stops being a wilting, weeping flower and becomes the Apex Mahou Shoujo.
A lot of girls still die, though. Apparently insane magical girls who like to play death games are a regular problem in the magical world.
