If 4chan isn't reclining why does it feel so dead nowadays?
>>
>>1904616
i'm pretty sure most 4chan posters are reclined throughout the day
>>
I don't know about you Anons but I'm reclined right now
>>
Actually I'm laying down on my bed naked. It's so hot today.
>>
why did the traffic go up so drastically after mot left
>>
>>1904651
It's a coincidence, because phone posting continues to rise. Also it's why the quality of posts are crashing.

Discord users killed actually posting here because they just make rooms for those boards/general to post in instead.
Idk why discord still isn't globally banned, it's quite literally advertising another forums.

2016 and beyond has attracted a lot of newfags from reddit and elsewhere. They come here expecting a culture based off the epic memes they see about this "4chan" site, resulting in board culture becoming more homogeneous and static over time.

It's a weird feeling. I feel very new when I see threads where people talk about pre-2010 4chan, but stuff like OP's image makes me feel old.
>>
That growth is all /pol/ and /biz/.
The problem with that former is that they either stay there forever, not contributing anything worthwhile, or when they do branch out, they still can't stop talking about their politics.
>>
Across most boards everything looks/feels the same. Wojaks and pepes. Oh no, better watch out, you might get called a cuck or soyboy or (thing you like) being shoehorned into these.

Some boards are pretty good at avoiding being transparently overrun as "newfags from /pol/ trying and failing to restrain themselves from making everything politics/ethics" but that tendency has grown so much the past year or so that it is truly the death knell of much of 4chan I feel. Mods are to blame for not striking down /pol/ outside /pol/ with extreme prejudice; /pol/fags do not fear or respect the mods one drop.

What this site needs are some real equalizers, some hard-ass judicators with no ties or sympathy to /pol/ to squash that shitty pepe/wojak anti-creativity complex site-wide. Mods need people with the real balls to challenge that shit, not just roll over for it like they clearly do.

I doubt Hiro would let them attack his golden goose.
>>
>>1905624
It's more like keeping the goose in the pen that was made for it.
>>
>>1905641
But if you take away their precious reddit meme's and make them feel victimised more than they already do for some reason. The normalfags would leave taking precious ad revenue with them.
>>
>>1905624
Whatever leverage buying this cost sink would have provided to Hiro has probably evaporated since 5ch was sold off, even if he regained control over the 2channel domain. Personally I don't believe data mining from 4chan is more profitable for possible buyers than on any site that has some kind of account system, and the new ads take care of that themselves.
Putting some stricter moderators back in place that actually remove garbage content and drive down traffic as a consequence wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. Obviously it's hard enough to even find somehow who would do that job pro bono, even more staying consistent at it.

This is what happen during 2007 and 2008, thanks to the buzz surrounding tards taking to the streets against the church of Scientology. Muh anonymouse lejun spawned the roots for a culture for vomiting all over shit AFK and dragging back here. Well, they were pretty successfully booted from /b/ and sort of did their own thing in pockets online. A pity the whole Gamergate+Fappening+Clapistani elections didn't resolve in people taking their battles wholesale to 8ch.
I reckon if there had been a couple of years between each of these shitty events, that it wouldn't have had such a devastating impact. There are threads on /v/ at the moment about some buggy Eastern European serf simulator absolutely full of outsiders filtering through from /pol/, including people dragging up shit hearkening back to Gamergate. This would indicate that, unlike the first true goatse sized anal prolapse, all of this shit from 2014 all the way through now haven't really been able to break away from the site and satellite sites like 8ch and those shitty Donald Trump fanboards on Reddit are actively washing back the dead into 4chan to rot and swell before exploding and getting shit fucking everywhere.

>resulting in board culture becoming more homogeneous and static over time.
Homogeneous I agree but static, not quite in agreement. I think what we are seeing is such a short halflife of trends devolving back into the sort of shit most of these anons came across when they first came here, before mutating again and returning to the baseline, that it appears static if you remember when shitposting wasn't 95% Pepe and Wojak mutations. To anons who have only been wasting the past four or five years of their life here, it probably seems like large waves of change but to yourself, a barely noticeable ripple of sameness.

Newer anons will look back at 2014 at some point with rose tinted glasses. They too will reach a point of seeing the cycles of sameness.

>>

>>
>>1909527
That's the point, they are not basement dweller neets but they can't hang out with the normal kids either. So they flock to whatever cancerous shit as an alternative to proper socialization, doesn't help that since most of them are 14 they are pretty gullible to believe things like /pol/ retarded infographics.
>>
>>1909538
Why would someone with no social skills have a mobile in the first place is my point. That makes no sense
>>
>>1909549
Like 90% of teenagers have a phone nowadays.
>>
>>1909458
Not that poster and I don't know if this is bait but in case it's not: you're not required to post here; you can just lurk until you're at home. Besides, this is a vicious circle: it may be that you can't wait to reply because the board is fast, and yet in doing so you only make it faster. If traffic were to be cut in half (or more?), I'm sure many would feel less compelled to phonepost, because they'd have the time to wait until they can reply more comfortably.

>>1909549
Having none or little social skills doesn't mean you don't try to fit in, and phones are a basic requirement for socialisation nowadays, even in places where you'd spend 90% of your time with those people anyway.
But surely many of them use social media: see e.g. edgy Twitter account #7492738.
>>
>>1909458
And it would much, much be better if said some people did not post on 4chan at all and instead posted on reddit, a place where they belong.

Unironically, /pol/tards are the new furfags. Can't fucking post without somehow signaling LOOK EVERYONE I'M A POLITICS
I know there's definitely people who successfully keep their habits separate, but then there were also furries who could keep it in their pants for two fucking minutes, too.
And they have the gall to act as though /pol/ existing gives them the right to shitpost their shitty unrelated thread derailing memes in less terribad boards.
>>
>>1909458
The point is that there's no NEED for people to be using the website constantly throughout the day. I browse on my phone but most of the time posting is too much of a hassle. I can't format my post properly, see how much I've written, and it's difficult for me to determine how valuable my post is as a whole when I've tried doing so on my phone. Not to mention that it takes much longer than typing on a keyboard due to having to correct errors and such. I make a few posts on my phone here and there, but pretty much everything apart from that is done on my desktop and I just read when I'm on my phone.

Well, most of those posters are from Reddit or other places to go to /pol/ or /b/. With those being where most of the users are they are bound to leak, this is normal and has no real consequences if the mods do their job, unfortunately our's don't. So with /b/ and /pol/ leaking into other boards, users get mad and leave 4chan as a whole, which barely lowers the user count with the ever increasing new-users.
>>
>>1912584
I thought that was common knowledge to anyone who has been here for at least 5 years. The post quality and length dropped because of mobile posting and users coming from websites like twitter and YouTube where pointless and effortless comments are the norm. Combine those traits with the common believe that every board is /b/ and /pol/, and moderation that isn't very effective for various reasons, and you get a very bad userbase that don't make this website interesting anymore. It's being overwhelmed with stupid nothingness like social media websites. This website is what it once very rightly mocked.
>>
>>1904616

4chan was a lot less sensitive back then though, nowadays sometimes even just saying the word "nigger" gets you labeled as a /pol/tard.

The problem is that you think anyone remotely mentioning politics i.e something that relates to pretty much everything including the media industry, must be /pol/. This boogeyman nonsense started when moot fucked with /pol/ a few years ago and left it into a wasteland, after that any remotely right-wing post (even though they were extremely common prior to that and nobody gave a damn) was deemed a stray /pol/ user and 4chan was never the same.

The /pol/ cancer is real and it continues to spread, to the point that many now expect every board to simply be an extension of /pol/. For every post carefully debunking /pol/ garbage, there are 5 shitposting it to death with little forethought or argument--just pure fee fees signaling. It's everywhere and you can't deny it happens in every thread, in every context in every board. /pol/ moderation is badly needed.

The increase of posting from phones means, there is a large segment of the userbase that can't post the way anons with keyboards can

>>1909549
When I was in highschool at the beginning of the decade, I had a phone even though i never called anyone on it, simply because my parents expected me to have one in case shit happened.

This.
Gamgergate is what primed the site to get embroiled in the election. Without the airs of activism that the site had put on in the midst of that debacle, /pol/ and all of the reddit band wagoners wouldn't have deluded themselves into trying to elect a meme candidate.

I am yet to see such imaginary "nuisance". While /pol/ sperg out is seen almost virtually in every board due to the large number of such shitposters and overall, underage edgelord shenanigans, people spousing anything even remotely left is hardly ever seen. Just another example of false equivalencies for damange control.

We had cuckolds in /co/ defending ANTIFA not even 24 hours ago.

And soyboys randomly spamming "/POL/!!!!!" in every fucking thread is far more cancerous than anything that "/pol/" actually does. /v/ is barely useable at this point because of leftists from other sites trying to change 4chan by screaming that anything that isn't explicitly far left is "/pol/".

What makes 4chan 4chan is anonymity and political incorrectness. The first let's a person's post speak for itself, rather than the reputation of the poster, and the latter keeps normies away.

Unfortunately, far left outsiders try to claim that completely average 4chan lexicon, memes, and opinions are now all /pol/, and detail practically every thread by calling everyone /pol/.

Really, the only way to improve 4chan would simply to make any post with "/pol/" or "pol" in it an instant 3 day ban.
>>
>>1918523
>>1918537
4chan has more normalfags than ever. The fact that these people get genuinely butthurt about things 4chan used to joke about, like pedophilia, is proof that they don't belong here. You're the one trying to rewrite the site's history and culture, it was never your personal army.

>and /v/ was well on its way to to becoming /b/ 2.0.

I remember back in 2011 and 2012, I was annoyed by how much off-topic shitposting there was on /v/ back then, but these days I kind of miss the "/b/ 2.0" era of /v/, now that /v/ has become the weird political warzone that it is now.
>>
>>1918683
That's because it's getting raided by ResetERA, the same people detailing every discussion by accusing everyone of being "/pol/".
>>
>>1918687
>the same people detailing every discussion by accusing everyone of being "/pol/".

To me, it almost feels like people are posting ">>>/pol/" just to shitpost now, because of how much it winds people up, and I sometimes see people being told to go to /pol/ even if their post had nothing political on it.
>>
>>1918693
Nah. Most people know exactly why they post ">>>/pol/". The irony that ">>>/pol/" doesn't isn't lost on us
>>

>To me, it almost feels like people are posting ">>>/pol/" just to shitpost now
I do that all the time when I see teenbros calling each other nigger. And sometimes I'll have a pic of gr3 for extra (You)s.
>>
>>1918693
>sometimes see people being told to go to /pol/ even if their post had nothing political on it.

I see that more often than not.
>>
>>1918702
Out of curiosity, with all the political shitposting on /v/ these days, how much of it do you think is just people just trying to get (You)s, like you are?
>>
>>1918710
I'd say most are. Initially anyway. Then the serious posters will come in and post graphs and shit ruining the fun. Or maybe that was the plan from the start? I don't know. Trying to figure out who's genuine and who's funposting isn't so easy anymore.
>>
>>1918710
Given that they'll go into entire blog posts about how they think an average opinion on 4chan means someone is "/pol/", I don't think most of them are just baiting.

considering that /b/ had already gone way downhill by that point, /v/ becoming blue /b/ wasn't that bad

/sci/, and occasionally browse /co/ for storylines and /v/ to watch shitflinging, even though I rarely play video games.

4chan is no longer ahead of the curve when it comes to internet culture and memes. There are far too many people now, and all of these people browse other social media websites like reddit, facebook, twitter, youtube etc. and bring them to 4chan, and they bring 4chan to those websites. 4chan is slowly becoming an amorphous blob that is virtually indistinguishable from other social media websites. There used to be a time when a meme or something funny would pop up here, and everyone else, like ebaumsworld or reddit would try to play catch-up and by the time they did everyone already moved on to something else and they would be mocked. Now we have pepe and wojack being regurgitated for well over a decade, being displayed on websites like twitter, r/the_donald, and facebook, and OC here reaching complete stagnation.
>>
>>1921330
What's the latest 4chan-made OC/meme other than pepe/wojak that became popular outside of 4chan? Bonus points for not /pol/-related.

But that's exactly the kind of crowd that are the first ones to go out and literally forcefeed their garbage onto every other website they can find. That old inter-website dynamic is gone
