Why are people in the Third World always happy, carefree, and hopeful? Contrary to their terrible quality of life, their happiness levels are consistently high. For example, South Korea and Japan, the most affluent and advanced nations in Asia, have the lowest happiness levels in the region; the majority of Koreans and Japanese are cynical, cold, and indifferent to others. On the other hand, Filipinos, Thais, and Vietnamese, who live hand-to-mouth, are positive, warm, and deeply interested in others, and their happiness levels are the highest. Why isn't material wealth linked to happiness?

If you're walking on a rural road, any vehicle that passes by will stop and you'll get a ride as far as they can take you.
