why cant this shit just die already?

What's a better program for data analysis?

asking for a friend
>>
>>9512748
VBA
>>
>>9512748
I'm pretty sure he's saying using a program for data analysis is the problem.
As in why do you believe you need a program for this instead of just writing your own programs to execute whatever algorithms you want to work with?
>>
>>9512699
Matlab?
>>
Just use python like a normal human
>>
>>9512748
r only has this reputation because of the packages. the language itself is shit and they can be coded in other languages.
>>
>>9512766
julia is better but python is at least a decent language.
>>
>>9512769
Julia will eventually be better, but it has a few more years of development to go before that happens.
>>
>>9512759
I have minimal experience coding, took two classes for Java/C++ over 5 years ago, and need a program for data analysis. I know Regular Expressions and how to write basic loops (Hello, world!) but that's about it. And, no one in my department knows how to use anything other than SPSS/SAS so they're completely fucking useless. I would use MatLab, but we don't even have the fucking subscription or w/e that allows your department access. I had to learn how to use R for my shit, which wasn't hard, but if there's a better way I'm all ears. I was barely even aware of R until some obscure reference guy was like, "lol y don't u try this"
>>
>>9512748
Python+Pandas

or straight C++ or Matlab
>>
>>9512776
>I have minimal experience coding
How is that an excuse? Nobody has experience coding until after they start coding.
>>
>>9512789
Not an excuse, I just don't really know where to start

just wait for R bytecode compiler. to be released soon

matlab is just as bad

lrn2vectorize

it's almost exactly a C mimic for most basic syntax, what's the problem?

No packages.

but I thought Matlab was powerful
>>

I really don't get why people don't like C or C++'s syntax, it's really straightforward and consistent. Compared to Java where you're writing prose to nicely ask a factory factory for more factories.

Julia

MATLAB is definitely powerful, OP is a dumbfuck.

Factories have nothing to do with Java Syntax. That's more about Java semantics and coding practices & standards.
>>
>>9512748
Depends. Do you want to be employed? Probably knowing SAS with some R as backup. Huge amounts of legacy SAS code out there you have to be able to read through.

What kind of functions do you fuckers need to do your work? Tell your language of preference too. I want to start some projects this year.

Does anyone unironically defend Java syntax as good?
public class bagofshit extends trash
{
protected static final wtf am I even doing here?
}
>>

It's good because its intuitive and easy to understand.
>>
>>9513106
Java isn't very intuitive. C++, C#, and Python all seem way more intuitive to me.
(And yeah, I know that Java and C# are generally considered pretty close to one another, but all the little things different between them are really obnoxious and nonsensical to me when I try working with Java instead of C#, also maybe not related so much but I hate the whole package file structure thing mattering that you have to take care of with Java, I just want to point a compiler at source code and get an executable).
>>
>>9513114
Agree to disagree. I do, however, much prefer C#.
>>

Packages are for brainlets
>>

You can use Octave, the free linux version of Matlab
>>
I offer to create a suite and the motherfuckers say nothing about it, and continue to complain about how there are no packages for their shit. Eat shit then.

Create your own languages you fucking brainlets

so matlab without all the things that make it good

Communism is never free. Use scipy for truly free (free as in burgers) software.
>>

R is a statistical programming language for people who don't understand statistics and/or programming.
It has a precooked version of any statistic method you could ever imagine running so you don't need to have a single fucking clue what you're doing or how in order for it to work.

No, that's syntax. You don't know what syntax means, go look it up.
>>

You're not supposed to use loops in R.
