Idiots. He is offside. The two lines here should be parallel. Ronaldo's knee is his most advanced body part which can play the ball by the way, that's why the line is drawn as such.
>>
>>75334185
he's still influencing play
>>

>>
>>75332785
New to soccer

How is this considered offside? Is there another Bayern player we can't see? I though if you are behind the second to last defender you are good.
>>
>>75334417
The goalie in this case is the last defender.
>>
>>75332501
>vidal was sent off fairly
He could've been sent off before but that was not even a foul. Casemiro still being on the pitch is the biggest joke of the 21st century.
>>
>>75334192
nigga hands can also influence a ball going in the net , but u dont see off side for that if a player has his hand out asking for the ball,

rule only applys to feet
>>
>>75334417
>Passer and receiver are both in front of the last defender as the pass is made
Onside
>Passer is in front of the last defender but the receiver is beyond him as the pass is made
Offside
>Passer and receiver are both beyond the last defender, and the receiver is not in a more advanced position than the passer as the pass is made
Onside
>Passer and receiver are both beyond the last defender, but the receiver is in a more advanced position than the passer as the pass is made
Offside

The position of the last defender is only relevant to the first two scenarios.
>>
>>75334417

Ball has to be in possesion or in "play" meaning in the air before any player in attacking team passes a defending team .

this isnt offside because Marcelo guy with the ball is holding the ball he has possesion of the ball playing the ball behind the defenders and going to pass it to ronaldo who's not more advanced than him, if u look at ronaldos feet and the ball
>>
>>75334643
>nigga hands can also influence a ball going in the net

Not legally, you bitch. You don't get to change the rules as you please.
>>
>>75334643
>that flag
Rules do not only apply to feet, they apply to any body part which can legally play the ball. Your head, knee, or even arse could be offside.
>>
>>75334643
>what is a knee
>>
>>75332434 offside

>>75332785 marginally onside
>>
>ball has to be in possesion

* ball has to be in posesssion of the attacking player
>>
>>75334693
>Americans
Poor wording anyway, a better way of saying it is just that the receiving player has to be at least level with the passer at the very moment the ball is passed. Nothing to do with the ball being in the air or not. The point isn't that Marcelo carried it through the defence himself and them passed it, the point is that Ronaldo is ahead of him when he passes it. Offside.

Why is this offside though? The more common offside, I understand why that's a rule. But if you're already past the line of defence fairly, you should be able to pass it wherever you want, surely?
>>
>>75335120
Yeah I know what you mean, it seems a bit weird. But at the same time, you could have a teammate just goal hang the entire match, as in literally stand on the keeper, and pass it up to him as soon as you bypass the last defender for a tap in.
>>
>>75334993
also
>A player is in an offside position if any of their body parts with which they can touch the ball during any other part of the play is in the opponents' half of the pitch and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last opponent
are you happy now? stick to handegg
>>
>>75335120
The keeper becomes the last defender in cases like this one. It makes sense because that gives him a chance against two/more attackers to draw his defense line, otherwise the free attacker would just run past him and wait for the pass (just like the regular offside rule, it's the same but for goalkeepers).

It's marginal, and inconsequential, but his knee is clearly ahead of play. It was just the cherry on top of this shitshow.
>>
>>75335120

You can't be further than the ball, his knee is just a little bit offside so i really dont see the whole fuss about this compared to the other one.
>>
>>75332434
That decisions wasn't clear cut like it looks

Ronaldo was stepping up and Costa was running back, a fraction of a second later and it looks like Ronaldo is inside

Almost impossible for the linesman to notice

That's the magic of football and the importance of the grey area

That goal happened because the Bayern defence placed too much trust in their assumptions, the run from the player outside Ronaldo forced a change in the status quo combined with Ronaldos expert positioning, allowed he goal

>be Ronaldo
>Stand in a position that's just offside enough the defence ignores you but move in a way relative to Bayerns offside trap that it looks like you were inside the second it leaves Ramos's foot

That isn't a tragedy like people are claiming, it's art

Footballing pedigree of the highest degree, exploiting the grey zone to maximum effect

It's art
>>
>American Ronaldo fans

Embarrassing

Shit, even American soccer fans are embarrassing
>>
>>75335365
>That goal happened because the Bayern defence placed too much trust in their assumptions

So bayern got punished because they did their job too well (make the offside more obvious and the attackers don't fall for it). That's not a good thing for the sport no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>75332434

>>
>>75335575
Blindly putting your trust in a fallible system instead of personally taking responsibility for the man you're supposed to mark isn't doing your job well at all

It's a meme tier defensive method, and when it fails because the opposition is too clever for you, you teen around and cry at the refs because you got outplayed

Look at that image again, the worlds best player (supposedly) is alone in the box as a ball is ring played in and NEITHER of the Bayern center backs are looking at him
>>
>>75335690
You don't mark a moron who puts himself in an offside position. If the refs can't make a good call, then VAR is the answer.
>>
>>75332785
how is this offside
>>
>>75335875

>>
>>75336010
>resorts to "hurr durr you're wrong because ur flag"
>from the country that got buttfucked by the shittiest mexico side ever in the WC qualifying play-off

No, you don't understand it. The offside rule is there to prevent attackers from pulling that shit in the first place. It's there to give defenders the chance to decide where they want to defend. If they marked every attacker that decided to play closer to the goal line, the game would be a complete shitshow and defenders would basically become goalkeepers that can't use their hands. Good thing they don't have to, since the offside rule exists, right? Now we just need VAR to prevent shitty refs from ruining the whole thing.
>>
>>75336233
Wrong on both your assessment and the way to fix things

And we're #1 at rugby while Mexico isn't #1 at anything

The rules are there to provide a framework for the game to exist around, not arbitrarily prevent every single infringement from impacting the game

Sport loses its magic when it has no margins for error

This goal happened because Ronaldo exploited a split second window where the defense switched off and reacted to their assumption of what was going on around them vs the reality

If we were as anal about VAR and making sure no rulls get broken then legendary plays like Michael Jordan's buzzer beater would have been looked at and overturned

> offside on an own goal

Since when was this a thing? If a defender heads it backwards to an offside striker it's no problem how is it a problem if the defender scores? Or is this part of that new offside rule about "influencing play" ie. the keeper see's a different coloured shirt, gets flustered & needs the ref to bail him out?
