Sat down during the anthem. No this isn't a shop, he literally was eating a banana while doing a silent protest. It's like blacks want people to stereotype them.

Just a disrepectul, unpatriotic gesture. And the exact wrong way to protest police brutality.

It doesn't start a conversation geared towards getting opposing factions to come together to reach a solution. It's too provocative and polarizing, so it just makes both sides dig in deeper with their own tribe.
>>

This. All anyone talks about is how their black ass sat down while they sit in their mansions miles away from any violence on any streets.

Reminder that Kaep didn't bother to vote and has donated exactly zero dollars toward any kind of black cause (or if he did, it's gotten zero press compared to his knees.)

My uncle volunteered and did three tours of duty in Vietnam followed by 17 more years of service before retiring as a colonel. He doesn't stand or even take off his hat for the anthem because it's just a fucking song. Your daily actions and how you live your life make you a patriot, not whether or not you stand up during a song. Marshawn's charity work has done more good for fellow Americans than 99% of the people that bitch at him

>He doesn't stand or even take off his hat for the anthem because it's just a fucking song.

Human nature is geared towards rallying around objects and symbols that we revere. When someone intentionally disrespects that symbol (a proverbial sacred cow), the group that reveres said symbol (the flag and anthem in this case) becomes defensive and interprets it, usually correctly, as an insult to them and their identity. It would be nice if people were more rational, but again...it's human nature, you can't really change it on a large scale.

>Marshawn's charity work has done more good for fellow Americans than 99% of the people that bitch at him

I'm sure that is true, and good for him. But can still admire someone for one action they take and still criticize another action. Donating to charity doesn't erase his misguided protest, and it sure as hell doesn't erase his past with DUIs and hit and runs.

It's a message to the police in a public arena. He's not holding the entire country culpable, and I am unsure why you are interpreting it that way. Furthermore, standing outside of police stations can be a crime through both loitering and hindering police work depending on jurisdiction, whereas protesting during the anthem is not a crime and reaches a larger audience of police than standing outside of individual stations would.

America is a landmass. It's the landmass consisting of the continents north and south america.

Furthermore, the country, the United States, was actually founded after there'd been both blacks and whites already living here while a Native population largely existed prior to the country's founding. This was never at any point a purely white country.

Using the same line of logic you've presented in your post, if you don't like his ability to express his first ammendment rights, you should take your ass back to Europe and try to find some North Korean-esque regime that has government mandates on flag worship.

No there were many people of different groups here. White guys just signed the paperwork.

Which would mean all non British whites should gtfo too according to your logic.
>original US naturalization law...
Which changed with time, blacks were still counted in the census, and freed blacks were respected as citizens in thr North. The United States even had their first biracial constable in Wentworth Cheswell in 1768, predating your Naturalization law. The fellow additionally performed the midnight ride along Paul Revere.

The US was never at any point 100% white nor was it explicitly made out to be a white country. It was a white dominated country with some questionable law, but not a white country. If you don't like that, go back to Europe.

Ok. Moderation nationalism is fine. Nations were created with the intention of providing a measured form of community and security in that regard. We live together, pay taxes together, and work together to improve our infrastructure/economy/safety. The world is a big, dangerous place, with people out to kill and defeat one another, and nations are a way of finding common ground to "upgrade" your standing in a way.

When you lose your nationalism, you begin to lose your nation. People care less about their fellow under the banner ("American"), more about other arbitrary characteristics (race?gender?height?weight?) and empathize more with these. You may see an influx of foreigners with no real regard for the customs and values of their new land and a dilution of traditions that may have proved favorable in the past.

So losing nationalism loses coherence, fosters division, in turn violence (civil and external), and even invasion and domination from another, more organized national entity. This is how Rome fell. Hope that cleared things up for you.

You are a major fucking fool if you think you can keep playing the racial identity card and not receive a gradual response from whites in turn. We should all really just stop this now before it does become bad.

tbqh, Kaep's form of protest was genius. Not saying I agree with him 100%, but from a purely objective standpoint, it got people engaged on both sides. People are still talking about it right now, months later. It's still a key talking point on both sides of the Identity politics debate.

He didn't break any laws, didn't physically hurt anyone, didn't try to take anyone's rights away, he didn't hurl uneducated insults at people. He simply sat down during the anthem. Out of all the ways he could have protested, this seems to not only be the right way of going about it, it's also the smart way. It is reminiscent of the sit-ins that MLK and his band did in the 60's, the only difference being Kaep didn't get his shit kicked in and arrested after his version of a sit-in.
>>
>>77627044
It's not important. The military pays the NFL with US taxpayer money to perform and hold pregame and halftime events to advertise and get people watching interested in joining. In all honesty, given that fact any game where the anthem is paid should be free for citizens to attend since our tax money goes to this yvan eht nioj tier bullshit.

But yeah, if the song was important we damn sure wouldn't be wasting it on preseason NFL games.
>>
>>77627122
So where's the slogan? I'm seeing him say that he'd rather see Kaep take a knee. Not chanting a slogan.

You're really reaching here, pal. And again, where is the direct link to the organization? I'm waiting.

I do think it's mostly the left's fault. Right wing extremists (neo nazis etc.) have been relegated to meme status for a long time now. Giving them exposure (hyping up these events), or validation (sending in the antifa attack dogs), only makes them more attractive to white people feeling defensive in a country that's becoming increasingly hostile towards them.

That's how I see it. We are tiptoeing towards demographic war.

The US military. They collect our tax money and pay the league to advertise on their behalf during games and perform "patriotic" ceremonies. The owners don't do that shit out of the goodness of their hearts.

This entire situation is morons sitting at home complaining about some guy sitting or kneeling on his TV during the anthem while he's getting fleeced on the backend with his yearly taxes and doesn't even realize the anthem itself semantically is not about the fucking troops. It's like people just want to yell at Kaep and friends for no reason and can't even realize how fucked up things truly are outside of the police protesting angle.

Regardless of national cohesion, America is a very big place with an untold number of factions. Different races, ethnicities, etc, 330 million people live in the USA and the population is only growing, each state has its own set of laws and cultures. Citizens and groups are not going to interpret nationalism in the same way, they are not going to agree 100% on every single issue. Trying to put a blanket of Pan-ism, whether from the left or right, over the entire country doesn't work, this is exactly how the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Yugoslavia fell. For a country like America, that was founded on the pretense individual rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, unquestioned Jingoism can undermine the rights that American's have been fighting for for centuries.

Another factor is that patriotism and respect for one's country is earned, it is not an automatically required thing. You can burn a United States flag if you want, because you have that right to expression. You can also shame people for burning an American flag, but you can not have them arrested under the law because it is their constitutional right to burn that flag. People in the US will always be allowed to embrace or reject nationalistic events and customs as they see fit, because it is within their rights as individuals to do so. Like >>77627406 said, we are not North Korea, we don't execute people for not clapping hard enough or saluting the flag hard enough.
>>
>>77627618
>the anthem itself semantically is not about the fucking troops

>>
>>77628517
The song is about the flag still waving in the midst of a battle and the revolutionaries holding their ground and chasing out the Brits despite their odds of success. Its not telling the citizens to worship the military or even pro military, as the US military hadn't even existed at that point in time. It was a group of tax evaders and British cop killers saying fuck the system and forming a ragtag militia.
>>
>>77629517
We had continental organizations in 1775 and rules in place for development of a military in 1787 with the constitution's adoption and stated the president would serve as commander in chief for such a military, but no such military existed at large for quite some time. Rather we had militias which we all banded together in continental orgs that shared information but operated independently. We didn't seriously start building things up federally until the war of 1812 when we realized we were at risk of losing what was just built. It was then that our nation switched over from those loose militias by state with a federal figurehead to an actual serious federal military with our large and fast expansion of the United States Navy.

So if you want to conflate the United states military with loosely coordinated state based militias, sure we had them, but we didn't have an actual federal military until a bit later. And there definitely wasn't any semblance of the flag or song representing the troops at the time of its inception. The Navy hadn't even recognized the song until 1889.

>>
>>77627406

No. I actually wouldn't say so. Not all natural human traits are "good". That's a fallacy. Nationalism is an attempt to set aside some of our more destructive, irrational, basal instincts in the pursuit of some form of common assembly that benefits us all. And you have to set aside some grievances to make it work. We tell people who make above a certain point to contribute more to the state coffers than we do others and everyone has to be fine with that.

And funnily enough people tend to snap back and fall back in line with this thinking in times of real struggle (not the present day """""""""struggle"""""""""). So maybe a good nuclear war with China or NK would recalibrate things for the better?
>>
>>77627708

Damn, this reads like a secessionist argument. So easy to invoke the "you don't understand because you're not me" thing. You have to get over yourself at a point, people aren't thinking of themselves as Americans first anymore and that is dumb as hell, if we're trying to succeed together in the best way.

The United States has been fairly nationalist for a while now and it has made us one of the greatest nations in world history

so
>>
>>77631224
Nobody said all human traits are good. And the problem with forcing nationalism and patriotism is that people don't set aside those greviances to make it work. Making someone stand for an athem, wear an armband, etc doesn't make them take pride in or think strongly of the the nation they felt terrible about about yesterday. Instituting law doesn't make people patriotic. It makes them bottle up their thoughts and lash out in the future in bad, unforseen ways. Patriotism is something that is earned.

And it's funny you mention that people "snap back and fall back in line with this line of thinking in times of real struggle". It's not that those times are when people fall back, it's that it's those times when our government finally listens to people of all walks of life because they need bodies on the front line. And then those groups which could not see eye to eye finally have to spend time listening to one another in the trenches and develop a better connection. So people take a slightly more positive outlook on nationalism in such times because the nation finally listens to the troubled groups at least for a second.

And finally, people blindly adhering to the principles of nationalism and flag worship is North Korean shit. In this country, that respect is earned, and it's why we give our people freedoms outlined in the bill of rights and we give people the ability to vote and change the system. We literally have a method in place to radically change our nation via elections because even our founding fathers knew blind nationalism was some full retard tier shit.

First of all, you keep making comparisons to extreme cases like North Korea. I explicitly stated I was alluding to moderate nationalism from the start, the classic American brand of it. No one is "making" you do anything. Kaep and Co. willingly started this "statement" and movement, whatever, and are getting their national response in turn.

>And it's funny you mention that people "snap back and fall back in line with this line of thinking in times of real struggle". It's not that those times are when people fall back, it's that it's those times when our government finally listens to people of all walks of life because they need bodies on the front line.

Absolutely false. This is when we institute drafts and people start riots and throw huge fits and dodge but eventually come together because they believe there is a greater evil or danger somewhere that could literally kill them all. Humans are most motivated by fear, real fear, and fear is what caused humans to tribe up, then nation up, in the first place. All it took was a serious terror attack to send Bush's approval ratings to a new level. A few years of calm later and people were miserly about him again. FDR nearly became an emperor thanks to Depression and then World War. It wasn't due to "listening to everyone", it was a literal force that made everyone have to come together for sustenance and defense.
>>

People have tried that but the American machine compressed them together. "White Americans" used to be a huge slew of nationalities that well and truly identified first and foremost by their European country of origin before becoming what you know today.

There is no point whatsoever in regressing back to something that no longer exists in that regard. You can't defend that kind of idiocy

I don't know what you're talking about. White Americans haven't been compressed in places like New Jersey, New York, etc. where there are proud Italian, Irish, etc. populations who identify as their respective groups first and foremost. Maybe in backwoods US and suburbia they've forgotten their roots or bred into the other groups so much they can't even trace their origins, but there are "white" populations in this nation that identify as their cultural group that is not American first.
>>77631969
I keep making comparisons to NK because they are literally a modern example of blind patriotism and worship of the state. No one is making anyone do anything and that's the way it should always be. Ergo, calling for death of a person over their choice to sit is asinine and unpatriotic. It'd be one thing to disagree in a civil fashion, but wishing sickness, injury or death upon them as many armchair patriots have done online is totally out of line.
>this is when we institute drafts...literal force that made everyone come together for sustenance and defense.
Even in your post you agree that people riot, dodge and disagree. And it is incorrect that everyone worshipped FDR as an emperor. People held him in high regard as a leader but many were critical of his lengthy tenure and stated precisely that he is not a damn king. Also, nationalism in that time period again came as a result of people coming together on the damn battlefield. People back at home were not fucking huddling together and crying while preaching America first. The groups still had their divisions but the men who spilled blood together got to understand each other better which created a respect based nationalism. Back in the homestead during and post war, nationalism died as quickly as it built when people, particularly those that did not go out to the war, continued their divisive non-empathetic bullshit and did things like lynch black WWII vets returning home from battle while still in uniform.
