Walcott had every right to be elite like Fabregas and RVP, it's his own fault that he got lazy and flopped.
>>
>>83617792
maybe, just seemed like he was another player too reliant on pace rather than technical ability (see shaun wright-phillips)
>>
>>83617814
There are plenty of fast players, none of them got as much attention as Walcott did when he was young. Even Messi has openly stated that he rated Theo a lot.
>>
>>83617792
Walcott never had any real potential in the first place. He was just young and really fast.
>>
>>83617917
yeah but Theo never really developed any other attributes , he was an alright finisher and a pretty poor crosser

Stefania Ferrario
>>
>>83617950
I agree, although my point was that he had the potential to be great. Maybe he got his big move to a big club and an England call-up too early and he became complacent instead of pushing onto that next level.
>>
>>83617998
I remember his debut game and season, he was genuinely insane too. He was a better player than he is now
>>
>>83618020
Imagine if Arteta manages to pull this off, I can't.
>>
>>83618024
part of it is just not living up to potential but part of I think is also that he was another victim of an english youth set up that prioritised physical attributes and didn't train technical attributes from a young age.
>>
>>83618047
I always thought he was a decent finisher, but yeah when it comes to one touch passing he lacked behind his teammates
>>
>>83618047
Arsenal switched to a more technical approach to football around the time he joined them as a teenager. He had the opportunity to improve that aspect of his game and he never did.

The best Arteta could do right now is to get Xabi Alonso in as his assistant, I'd reckon he would command the respect of the dressing room as well.
>>

>>
>>83620851
Credit where credit is due and Gerrard had a decent career at Liverpool but when you go on and expect the current crop of footballers to worship him as soon as he enters the dressing room then no.
He is a club legend of a club that hasn’t been relevant for over a decade.

>Autists of /arse/ and Twitter thinking he doesn't know what he's doing and can't be a manager because he hasn't been a manager before

Hmm
>>
>>83633998
That's because Guardiola and co are close to Arteta and obliged to say nice things about him while being interviewed. Of course they can't say bad things or be very critical about Arteta's actual ability.
>>
>>83633998
Kind words from his friends won't change that he has never been proven in a results based setting
>>
>>83633998

>>
>>83633998
To be fair to /arse/, there's a small core of AKB guerrillas that have defended Arteta's prospective appointment and pledged to support him for the next 2 years. Even those against his appointment have said they're going to give him some time to prove himself. Indeed, the fanbase more generally seems to be willing to give him a chance even if they're not overjoyed with his appointment.

Hiring someone with 0 managerial experience was never going to be massively popular but he won't exactly be walking into an impossible scenario. Wenger faced similar skepticism and a lukewarm reaction when he first arrived; it's down to Arteta to prove himself as a manager at this point like Wenger did in the early years. If Arteta fails it's on him not the fans; nobody should pretend otherwise should things go south.

He was bad at Mallorca but look where they are now. Second season in Swansea was bad too, but look at the players they got for him. They cut him out of influencing the purchases, getting Bony and Shelvey for a man who played beautiful passing football. And again, look where they are now.

If he has influence of who gets brought in, he can build great teams.

plus it's all profit for the Kroenkes since they're building the stadium on his land, their land development team is working the construction site, and he's having a few businesses make the stadium their new homes as well (like the NFL Network). ramsey was decent, thats about it. ozil was *basically* invisible. literally miky could play his role and get more assists and goals desu. wilshere is just an /arse/ meme as he isnt that good at all. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to get rid of him, but he wasnt by far player of the season or anything. Moreso just a decent squad player. Laca scored a good bit, but really other than that he didnt do much. Auba is gonna be better than him for sure at doing that. Also dont get me wrong, I personally really like Laca after hearing him in a lot of interviews. But again, *player of the season* ? fuck no.

Monreal was literally the most consistenly good player all season, and also somehow ended up scoring more goals than most of the other players lmao

>a manager who can sort out the defence
>a manager with a good grasp of football tactics
>a manager with experience of winning European trophies
>a manager with experience of getting Top 4 and even winning league titles
>a manager who has exceeded expectations in a recent job
>a manager who can command respect from young players, experienced pros and transfer targets alike
He won't get the job, though, because he's not muh young manager with attacking ideas. He also has a track record of rocking the boat over transfers and financial support from the owners.
>>
>>83652519
Circulating possession in midfield is one of the things Xhaka is great at though. He's been playing like that since he was at BMG under Favre, and continues to do it in the NT.
>>
>>83652598
He is a good passer yes, but how many times has he lost the ball in his own half? Arteta was actually a good example of a simplistic player but rock solid in keeping possession.
>>
Unironically gonna stop watching the EPL lads. This is unacceptable. Good luck to Arsenal, for me, it's Porto FC.
>>
>>83652627
Maybe Arteta can help mentor Xhaka
Arteta did alot of ball wining, slide tackling and distribution at Arsenal

>>83652594
I really like Rafa hes done great things for Newcastle
>>
>>83652547
I wish ... for all the ridicule I heaped on the fat waiter over the years he actually is a good manager but he will never ever come cause he openly talked about, multiple time at multiple clubs, needing more money for transfers.
That’s like the biggest no go at Arsenal.

>>
>>83648392

Anyone but fucking lego hair.
>>
>>83653262
That's their fault for only starting to put together a plan for replacing Wenger this season. Gazidis has no idea what he's doing. This is the man that hired a whole team of people to take contract stuff away from Wenger, and then none of them got any of our players to sign new ones, so the entire team was allowed to run down their contracts. The only positive is that that team all got fired.
>>
>>83642456
He was shit this season. Only had like a month or two where it looked like he might've been building towards something, but then he fell back and was dramatic again.

No idea why we're giving him a new deal too.
>>
>>83653191
That was Dick Law. Same guy responsible for Ozil's transfer coming down to minutes before the deadline because he missed his flight and not signing Higuain over £2m. World class incompetence

Ornstein: “There is a perception that a lack of finance is among the factors contributing to an apparent struggle to lure a manager of Allegri's calibre, though Arsenal reject this and are adamant their job is one of the most attractive in world football.”

Ornstein: “We are told Arsenal have a budget for the summer transfer window of around £50m. That can be bolstered by the proceeds of any sales but, if true, it is meagre in comparison to their rivals.”

Ornstein: “‘Big-name' signings are unrealistic and #AFC will have to be creative and maximise the connections and experience that Mislintat and Sanllehi bring.”

>That meant the club missed the chance to pursue a coach they admire in Thomas Tuchel. The German viewed Arsenal as his perfect destination but could not afford to wait until the Wenger situation was resolved and potentially lose the opportunity to join Paris St-Germain.

Arsenal close to appointing boss, next week likely. Start of continental model: head coach slots into predefined structure, will contribute to recruitment decisions & have veto. Transfer targets were discussed with interviewees, pre-sales budget ~£50m #AFC

Actually, Arteta excelled at staying on his feet and winning the ball and NOT slide tackling. Which is something Xhaka could definitely use improvement on.
