Which team will buy Chris Hogan the Steelers destroyer in Free Agency 2019?
>>
sort your team's schedule from most hardest game at the top to easiest at the bottom. then split them into sections based on if you expect your team to win or lose.

>niners

>should lose
at Rams
at Vikings
at Chargers
at Packers
at Chiefs
>might win, might lose
vs Rams
vs Lions
at Seahawks
at Buccaneers
>should win
at Cardinals
vs Giants
vs Seahawks
vs Bears
vs Broncos
vs Raiders
vs Cardinals

so this way I'm saying the 49ers are a 7 to 11 win team, but if we play like a 10-6 team we should beat the lions AND all the games I listed lower than that.

let me guess, your mind is still in a world where the 49ers are 0-16 contenders and your perceptions of all teams but yours are grounded in 2017.

that's fine though, keep sleeping on us. we're no worse than the second best team in the division now and a bubble team (although likely on the wrong side of the bubble) for the wild card, and if you refuse to even entertain that idea then it will just make things more amusing when we prove it.

oh alright, I thought you were just shitposting so I responded in kind, my bad. I do agree that the seahawks will likely place last in the division, but keep in mind that the idea of that post wasn't about making power rankings of your opponents' overall strength. part of the reason I ranked the seahawks games where they are is because they come twice in three weeks at the last part of the season. division games are always a bit unpredictable anyways and not necessarily representative of both teams' strength (see: 2016 niners sweeping the rams and beating LITERALLY NOBODY ELSE). also, playing in seattle has been like our kryptonite for the past 6 years or something, even though we have a good shot this time. also, remember that that's a primetime game for sherman's return to seattle, so they'll be extra pumped up. I tried to factor all these things in when debating position on the list.

>>
>>83624243

>>
>>83624403
>All this because
no, not at all. if you've really paid attention to the niners and the fans posting about them, you'd have seen that it's not that one man is turning everything around by himself. rather, he's a catalyst that is getting the most out of everyone else, who were underperforming before he reignited them.

similar sort of thing as when harbaugh came in with a mostly inherited 6-10 roster and no real offseason due to the lockout, then made them immediately one if the best teams around that ended up going 13-3. that team showed immediate signs of what was to come though, even if most people weren't really paying attention until the handshakegate game against gym shorts' 5-0 lions.

point is, all the signs were there that this was the kind of improvement that foretells legit growth in a big way, not just a flash in the pan gimmick. even our defense was statistically a top 10 unit in every way during jimmy g's starts. that's mainly because they could really show what they're capable of now

>Last season, NFL teams collected, on average, 37.3 sacks. The Buccaneers finished with 22, worst in the league.

>Defensive coordinator Mike Smith is very good -- he just didn't have the talent last year to implement the things he wanted to. So Tampa Bay made a big investment up front, trading for Jason Pierre-Paul, drafting Vita Vea 12th overall and signing Vinny Curry, Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein.

>The Bucs also beefed up on the offensive line, inking Ryan Jensen, who, in addition to being a good center, allows the team to move Ali Marpet to guard. Rookie back Ronald Jones is pretty good

>post got cut off
that's mainly because they could really show what they're capable of now that they weren't on the field for twice as long as the offense or under constant pressure from being dumped into bad field position situations. on top of that, jimmy has a lot more room to show what he can do since he came in from a very different offensive system and barely had grasped a section of the playbook before we gave him his test run. with a full offseason to work with and rapport built up with his offense, he should perform even better.

the long and short of it is that we've been playing as a much better TEAM lately, not just being carried by one guy. a team that's still green and rough around the edges sure, but one that already deserves to be taken seriously and will only be getting stronger in years to come.

>If there were an award for "happiest defensive coordinator," Wade Phillips would surely win it in a runaway after the Rams added studs Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib and Ndamukong Suh to a defense that already included Aaron Donald. If you look every place Phillips has won before -- including in Denver, when the Broncos won Super Bowl 50 -- his success came because of good corners and potent inside tackles, and that's exactly what the Rams have now.

>This offseason should be considered a win for the Vikings simply because they added a player who they believe can carry them to the Super Bowl: quarterback Kirk Cousins. It's not like there was anything wrong with Case Keenum last year, really, but there are quarterbacks who can get you to the playoffs and quarterbacks who can advance in the playoffs.

>Trading for veteran QB Tyrod Taylor was an excellent move. Taylor is not a spectacular player, but he doesn't make many mistakes -- the fact that he helped take Buffalo to the playoffs last season is a testament to his competence. When you add in first overall pick Baker Mayfield, suddenly the Browns' quarterback situation goes from no semblance of hope to pretty solid, even if I don't think Mayfield will start this year.

>They are the Bucs
Not a legitimate reason.
>They are guaranteed 6 free losses
They beat the Saints last season, and they played the Falcons and Panthers to the wire in the second half of the season as well.

Things you're blindly assuming:
>the Falcons, Panthers, and Saints won't regress at all
>the Bucs won't improve at all, despite an explosive new RB, and a complete overhaul of their DL and secondary
>the Bucs will make the same mistakes they made last season
I could go on, but I won't until I have a reason I should take your opinion seriously.
>Jameis regresses more
And what makes you think he'll regress?

Jameis' last 5 games of the 2017 season:
>average rating of 103.98
>average y/a of 9.03
>9 TD's
>5 INT's
INT's are a problem of course, but everything else is great.

A 103.98 rating is second best in the league for 2017.
A 9.03 y/a is first in the league for 2017, by a wide margin. And Jameis did that despite his 2 best offensive lineman and his best blocking TE sitting on IR. That 5-game stretch also included 3 games against the division opponents you said would get a free win against the Bucs in 2018. That's how he ended his season.

Now tell me again why you think the Bucs will go 2-14.
>>

An average Steve Smith is still better than most receivers in the league.

With a new OC he will be elite easily. He showed flashes of 2015 this year with the worst OC in football and with practice squad WRs. Funchess is decent to above average and is primed to breakout. Torrey Smith is a question mark but bear in mind he was buried beneath a bunch of receivers with the Iggles. DJ Moore and Samuel will probably rotate the slot. Also le 2nd and 12 man is gone.

The Bucs win 3-4 of those games if their defense isn't abysmal last season.

Once again comparing a 5 game sample size to 16 game sample sizes.

And Jameis did that despite his 2 best offensive lineman and his best blocking TE sitting on IR.
The Iggles won a Super Bowl missing probowlers. Big whoop. Injuries happen.

>in meme fashion, yes.
There's nothing 'meme' about the way they won. You can't just arbitrarily discount drives like that.

>two teams notorious for playing down to their competition
So now you're just lying. The Panthers absolutely steamrolled their competition in 2015. They lost 1 game in the entire regular season, and absolutely demolished their opponents in the playoffs (superbowl not included, of course).

The story is the same with the Falcons. They have no qualms about running up the score and burying the competition, and they don't play down to the level of their opponent. Stop making shit up to compensate for your lack of a legitimate response.

>why would they
Because teams regress all the time, and because Brees is getting older, and Kamara saw a lot of touches, and Kuechley got banged up again, and Thomas Davis is getting older.

>young teams make mistakes
And now they're a year older. Terrible argument.

5 games isn't a small sample size, especially when those are the last five games of the season. In any case, you haven't shared a single reason why you think he'll regress. He clearly played his best football at the end of last season after returning from a shoulder injury, yet you think he'll regress in 2018 for no apparent reason.

>And you lost more than you won, correct?
That's irrelevant. I was talking about Winston's individual stats. You think he can't beat those teams, even though he put up stats that prove otherwise. All he needed last season was a defense ranked better than 20th.
>>
>>83626811

In 2015? Like I am a Panthers fan but that shit was 3 years ago. Last year we played down to yall and also almost lost to the Jets, Bills, and lost to the Bears.
>The story is the same with the Falcons. They have no qualms about burying the competition, and they don't play down.
Yes, they do. They almost lost to the Burrs, Jets, Bucs and lost to the Bills. Both teams do run it up occasionally but are also known to occasionally play down.

>because Brees is getting older, and Kamara saw a lot of touches, and Kuechley got banged up again, and Thomas Davis is getting older.
Kamara is 22, him seeing a lot of touches isnt a big deal. You have a point with Drew, but the Saints also have an extremely young core which is only going to get better. The Panthers were ravaged by injuries, and with competent wideouts, that should compensate for TD declining. You don't know if Luke is really declining just because he was banged up.
>And now they're a year older.
How is that a terrible argument you stupid mongrel? Yeah, and they are still going to make mistakes.

IThe time of the games doesn't matter when you are already eliminated.

that sounds like fallacious reasoning tbdesu. seems like you're saying his comment on your personality, outside the context of the argument, has no validity within the context of the argument at hand because the evidence within that argument is lacking. that sounds to me like a self-supposing loop of false logic wherein you construct a premise that rejects an idea and then use that as evidence for your premise being true, despite the premise being defined by it. forgot the term for that.

in any case, you yourself just admitted that regardless of whether it's the case this time or not, you have the natural tendency to argue points to the point of bullheadedness and being incessant. that itself was his point, so whether or not the current arguement indicates more proof of such, you are both agreeing that as a commonly established impression of you, and thus he doesn't wish to engage further as the exercise would be demonstratively pointless.

>week 15
Bucs play the Falcons close and lose by 3.
>week 16
Bucs play the Panthers close and lose by 3.
>week 17
Bucs finally finish and beat the Saints in a close game.

If they had gotten blown out in weeks 15 and 16, the week 17 win is a fluke -- sure. Since that's not how it happened, sit and fucking explain to me how you know that shit was a meme, or a fluke, OR WHATEVER EMPTY EXCUSE YOU WANT TO USE.

>b-but the Falcons and Panther were just playing down the their competition in those games! The Saints probably did the same in week 17!!!!
Let me just stop you right there. The Bucs lost their first meetings with the Saints, Panthers, and Falcons by a total of 44 points, aka 15 points a game. If you want to persist with this "playing down to the Bucs" shit, explain why those didn't start playing down to the Bucs until the last 5 games of the season, at the same exact time.

You make a fair point about Kamara, but Brees is still central figure in that offense. The defense will go places though. I never said Luke was declining, just that he suffered a concussion for the second season in a row.

>How is that a terrible argument?
Because they're a year older. You said young players make mistakes to explain the mistakes the Bucs made last year, but using that logic to project the Bucs to make the same mistakes after a year of growth and learning makes absolutely no sense. That's why it's a terrible argument, you fucking idiot. It's fundamentally retarded.

>it's less than half the damn season
I'm not saying Winston was a top 5 QB for all of 2017, though. I'm saying that, based on how he ended the season, you've no reason to predict Winston will regress in 2018.

To be continued.
>>

>>

I mean I guess the argument can be made for maybe Keenum or Cutler, but that's really about it. That one season with the Jets was impressive but at his best he's only ok and his worst he's a dumpster fire. I'd honestly feel completely safe starting anyone listed here over him.

No, based on what you've said he absolutely won't regress, you fucking idiot. There's no "maybe" about it. You haven't given me a single GODDAMN FUCKING REASON why he'll regress in 2018. NOT ONE.

>he will remain below average to mediocre
Why? That was the best season of Winston's career. It was an objective, complete improvement over his first 2 seasons, yet you think he'll stop. Why? The talent around him has improved. Ideally, his coaching will improve. He has another year of experience in the league. Why will he stop developing at 24? Did Newton stop improving as a QB at 24? How about Brees, or Ryan?

>lost to two who are known to play down

I never said the same mistakes, if I did then that was a fuck up on my part, but they are still a young team so they will still make mistakes, even if it is fewer than last year.

>I'm not saying Winston was top 5, you've no reason to predict Winston will regress in 2018.
Already backed off my Winston regression argument. That was a bad pick on my part. I am pointing out that you are comparing a 5 game sample to an entire season, which is a flawed argument.

I never said his argument. I literally said the opposite when I said "I admit it's completely possible that I put forth arguments that are completely wrong." I understand I can get emotionally invested in my arguments, and see how that can lead to stubbornly spouting things even I know are outright wrong.

What I said is I'm not going to outright admit to doing that HERE to the extent he's complaining about. He said that I never admit to being wrong here, about the Bucs, or otherwise. His comment go beyond my personality.

>>he will remain below average to mediocre
Where do you rate Jameis? I would say last year he was below average, and this year he will become mediocre.

Your team is trash.

Your qb is trash.
His stats are comparable to Blake Bortles. That is the only argument that needs to be made.

You have one good wr, the other being a trash 2018 desean jackson.

Your tight-ends are trash. I legit had to look them up because I had no idea who the fuck they were.

The only redeeming quality about your team is your defense, which has a stout front. But your corners and safeties are suspect as fuck. 2/3 of Brent Grimes interceptions came against garbage offenses. Chris Conte blows in coverage as well.

You, again, will not have a winning season.

It's not entirely based on ceiling but it does matter. Like you can argue that Stafford has a higher ceiling than most of the guys above him, but until he can actually hit that ceiling its all speculation. The fact of the matter is that Ryan and Newton have actually been to a Super Bowl as the league MVP. Thats their ceiling and they actually hit it. Meanwhile Stafford has yet to even win a playoff game, despite his high ceiling.
>>
>>83628677
>the fact that you are a shit team?
Not a fact. That's literally what we're debating, you idiot.

>Because why the fuck would winning teams care about a shit team?
Because divisional games are unpredictable, and coaches are paid to caution their players against falling for trap games, and all of those teams were vying for playoff position. Good teams wouldn't take their foot off the pedal under those circumstances.

>Why couldn't you do jack shit before running in to teams known for playing down
OK, the Falcons and Panthers AREN'T known for playing down. That's NOT their style. STOP treating it like that's a fact. I'm only going with that idea for the sake of argument.

In any case, the I already TOLD YOU the Bucs played close in the 2 games before they played the Falcons. They lost to the Lions by 3, and the Packers by 6 in OT. I already told you this. I shouldn't need to repeat myself. Stop being a retard.

>they will make mistakes, even if it's fewer than last year.
Well that was my point. All teams make mistakes.

>I am pointing out that you're comparing a 5 game sample to an entire season.
I did that for convenience. I wasn't going to look through the last 5 games for every QB in the league. I shouldn't have to. The point is Winston was excellent in his last 5 games.

Jameis Winston's 2017 stats:

>92.2 rating (14th in the league)

Bortles:

>your tight ends are trash
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Cameron Brate has the most TD's in the league among TE's since 2016. OJ Howard is an athletic freak of a blocking TE and he scored 6 TE's in 14 games last season (last 2 on IR). What other stats? Yards? If so, then no shit. They're both on the field at the same time, and there's only one ball. Not to mention Howard is a rookie and was used primarily as a blocking TE.

Over 2 seasons, Cameron Brate has +1200 yards, 12 yards/reception, and 14 TD's, with a first down % of 69. Those numbers are top 5 for receiving TE's.

Howard is already well on his way to be great.

Cameron Brate and OJ Howard are better than Zach Ertz and Trey Burton.

It doesn't matter what yards the latter pair combined for in 2017. The Eagles have a better coaching staff with better play-calling. On a per-reception basis, Brate and Howard are consistently better than both and it's not even close. Their problem was a lack of targets because they suffer from a bad, stubborn coach who doesn't know how to utilize the talent on his roster. Howard was also used primarily as a blocking TE as a rookie.

you guys are playing us week 3 in arrowhead. we're probably going to still be in the process of gelling in our new look, especially our offensive line. meanwhile you guys drafted a bunch of defensive guys that are likely to make an immediate impact while also alleviating depth thinness, allowing you to not overwork your key defensive players, making it safer for your D line to be aggressive. not to mention several of them are large, which is a worse matchup for us early in the season because we have a wealth of little guys who can run but not a standout big receiver who can operate in the flat or contest aerial catches. someone may emerge ther eventually but not by week 3 I think. add on the head-to-head field position game with punting and it will be on our defense to win the game I think, but foster's made a huge impact in stopping the run and will definitely be suspended if not worse. so the only way I see us pull out a game is if you fail to do your job (protect the ball, nail the slants and screens, eat the clock, wear down both sides of the ball) or if our offense pulls out some bullshit heroics. both are possible, but not things that should be counted on. my guess is SF 13-20 KC.

So it's settled. #1 Brady, then literally who cares.

Want to get into football this season, but I have 1 question. Literally why do people freak out about the Pats? They won a super bowl 3 times in 4 years, then nothing for 10 years and then 2 more in three years. Why do people make it seem like they win it every year and it's obvious they'll win every year? I literally thought that they've won the past like 10 Super Bowls based on the amount of hate and dickriding they get.
>>
>>83634641
Pats fans are ELITE falseflaggers
>>
>>83634641
just because they didn't win the super bowl those years doesn't mean they were crazy irrelevant in the other years. in the 17 years that brady has been the quarterback, they have won their division 15 times and advanced to the AFCCG 12 times, with an average regular season record that exceeds 12-4. the patriots are pretty much never NOT a threat to win it all. that's why everyone shits on brady calling him a system babby, and loses their shit when they're actually defeated in the playoffs.

in fact, the entire reason /sp/ was created in the first place was because the patriots lost the 2007 super bowl after going 18-0 beforehand, almost pulling off the perfect season. the mayhem caused by it was so bad that moot needed to contain us in our own board. true story.
>>
Cameron Brate is great for your fantasy team. He scores TDs, I guess because they have literally no other red zone targets. But if you think he's anywhere near as good as Ertz, you're on something.
>>
>>83634641
They've been in the last 7 conference championship games, and 12 out of the last 18. Over those 18 years, the next closest is Pittsburgh with 6, and then Denver with 3. So they're clearly the only real consistent contender in the AFC.

>>
>>83635491
well 2001 would be 17 years back not 18, but whatever. it's obvious that the patriots have been dominant for almost 2 decades now so everyone is either sick of it or a pats fan. the "dropoff" that anon talks about is misleading, the longest AFCCG drought they had was 3 seasons, including the one where brady got hurt. many other teams would be glad just to MAKE the playoffs for 3 years. it's stupid how long they've kept this up.

at least the niners took their heir, and now he's gonna be our heir instead.

Looks that way from another fans perspective but in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 we lucked through bradys sheer will to make the playoffs (except in 2002). Patriots aren't the massive powerhouse football fans like boogeymaning, belichicks "system" benefits the players around brady more than it does himself, which is why guys like Amendola and Hogan had superb careers as patriots. Except if other teams talent overshadow belichicks system (2012 ravens for example) brady is forced to carry our carcass until the flavor of the year defense knocks us out of contention. That isn't to say we're not contending every season but we're certainly not a top 5 team annually if you analyze the talent.

I guess that makes sense on why analysts were so smug but what's the point of bragging about going to 7 straight championships if you only win 2 Super Bowls out of it? Until I looked it up I literally thought the Patriots had won like 5 Super Bowls in a row the way these people were talking about it, but they never even had a three peat, and only went back to back once, and never blew anybody out. What's the point of being permanent contenders if you barely win relative to your contendership time?
>>
>>83635712
It's not a very strong list to choose from.
>>
>>83635646
>belichicks "system" benefits the players around brady more than it does himself, which is why guys like Amendola and Hogan had superb careers as patriots

Belichick turns scrubs like Brady into good players, that what he does.

As for Amendola and Hogan, those guys both have elite 3 cone times
6.75 - Hogan
6.81 - Amendola
That's what what the Patriots like to do, surround Brady with WRs with eltie 3 cone times giving Brady a big talent advanage
>>
>>83635812
There are 32 teams in the league.
It's rare for one team to be in the top 4 (and therefore have a good shot at winning the owl) that consistently. So if you're talking about a safe bet to predict as the winner, the Pats are the only thing close.

Very useful obviously as Belichick keeps getting WRs with elite 3 cones times which is the drill that judges how well you can get open as a WR, so having WRs that get open better than everyone else is a big advantage obviously. Belichick also did it with Edelman (6.62 three cone) and again this draft with Berrios (6.72 three cone)

Just having an elite 3-cone doesn't mean you're going to be good, just like haviing an elite forty doesn't mean you are going to be good.

Belichick looks at the guys with elite 3-cones and then hand picks the guys that aren't just 3-cone freak but also have other tools to make them good (Hogan, Edelman, Amendola, Berrios, etc)
I'd imagine that Belichick looks for
>Intelligence (Belichick is a genius)
>work ethic (Belichick instill an incredible work ethic on his team)

football just isnt that kind of sport.

there's too much parity and turnover, and it's too difficult to build a superteam, to expect something like winning 10 championships in a row.

if you even just made the conference championship game 3 years in a row you'd be a dominant team that's remembered for a long time, it's hard to do. making it 7 years in a row and 12 times in 17 years is unheard of. by football standards, the patriots' successes are stupid good, so much so that many people feel it's disgusting.

10 championships in a row in some of the other sports is nowhere near as difficult or impressive as what the patriots have done. and that's why pats fans can go suck a fat one, they've been spoiled rotten.

The definition of autistic would be to downplay everyone having to do with the Patriots to make Brady sound better. You see Patriots fans do this a lot and it's the prime example of autism
Look, no one disputes Brady is a GOAT-tier QB (in accuracy, intelligence, drive, moxy, everything). It's the definition of autism to have a QB like Tom Brady and be so insecure about it that you throw the rest of the organization under the bus to prop up Brady. That's autism

Yes, Brady wouldn't be Brady without the help of others. And? Who cares? You can say the exact same thing about every great QB ever. And all of those QBs will be the first to tell you that (otherwise they'd be massive dicks and those guys don't get far in life)

Look at Manning, he's considered the most genius on his own without the help of others,, right? Hello, his Dad was an NFL QB. Brady never had that advantage. Brees - he wouldn't have dominated to the insane level he did at Purdue without having one of the best passing coaches in the game in Joe Tiller (and Brees' QB coach at Purdue just made Goff good last year as his QB coach). And Brees wouldn't be putting up these video game numbers #1 in the NFL every year if he wasn't with a top passing coach like Payton. Joe Montana was like a Brady, won a lot of rings with a great team and a great coach (Bill Walsh) and do you ever here anyone downplaying Joe Montana? No. He was like Brady when I was growing up. Brady is the same way. You don't have to worry about people not thinking he is a GOAT. You are totally autistic if you worry about this so much you go to great lengths to throw the rest of the Patriots organization under the bus to prop up Brady. That's severe autism
>>
>>83636100

>Then suddenly, like manna from heaven, the perfect specimen fell right into Fangio's lap the first night of the Draft. This defense calls for inside linebackers to run stuff, blitz and cover. Check, check and double check. Smith is a prototypical modern linebacker, with the elite athleticism and premium instincts to thrive on all three downs. This man is gonna stuff the stat sheet. >James Daniels (OL, Iowa; 2ndR/No. 39), an interior O-lineman who spent much of the pre-draft process as a first-round mock mainstay, feels like a steal at No. 39.
>And Anthony Miller (WR, Memphis, 2ndR/No 51) instantly become a favorite of anyone who popped in his tape, as a hyper-competitive playmaker who gets absolutely everything out of his 5-11, 201-pound frame.
>Yeah, life is good these days for "The Pretty Boy Assassin," who's being put in prime position for a breakout sophomore campaign.

This year's team on HBO's Hard Knocks will be...

it's only fitting that, on the heels of a historic 1-31 stretch, the Browns will be featured on Hard Knocks.

HBO and NFL Films announced Thursday that the Browns will be the 10th franchise to be depicted on the series.

Among the potential storylines for the series' is of course the quarterback battle between Tyrod Taylor and first overall pick Baker Mayfield.

Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. "We have been asked multiple times about being featured on Hard Knocks, and we really felt like it was our turn this year and the timing was right. We want to be great partners in this league, and we also recognize Hard Knocks gives fans a special opportunity to learn more about our team and players. Organizationally, we are confident about where we are headed

John Dorsey said:. "the time is right,..Hue and I both feel like this team is in a good place and that we are in the process of building something that will lead to success.

are they? I think they are giving him one more shot
that's why they didn't move up for Rosen or draft a QB at all, even a guy like Lauletta or White
even though he's painfully mediocre

Through their first 77 career games, Ryan Tannehill has a higher passer rating than Sam Bradford. #TannehillFact

Yeah I jumped to say he sucks, but I don't think they are giving up on him. Don't they still just have him and Matt Moore? That guy Fales was awful. BTW Matt Moore has been the Phins backup FOREVER, I feel like that doesn't happen much these days.

>Redskins
>Gruden channels Joe Gibbs and builds an 11-5 season on a strong run game and fantastic production out of seasoned veteran, Alex Smith. The Redskins make a Super Bowl run with a string of close, hard fought road victories culminating in Washington's fourth Super Bowl.
>Infighting and sloppy play are rampant as the Redskins bottom out into a poor 4-12 season. There is talk of Gruden being fired at season's end.
