>>
>>86834507
Get some snacks bro, Arsenal is losing anyway, you have no influence on that. It's City.

They'll score 4 easily.
>>
Considering he failed at Paris, do you think Emery will succeed at Arsenal? It's probably easier to be Arsenal's coach because there's probably less pressure but the Premier league is extremely competitive and your team has to perform well at almost every game if you want to have a good season.
>>
>>86834733
I think Emery will succeed. Arsenal do not have a bad team, they just have poor team cohesion, bad organisation, defending and discipline, all that can be fixed by Emery.

Arsenal's struggles last season were away from home where we conceded too many goals to shit teams. At home, we nearly won every game.

Furthermore, Arsenal needed a dire change in management and internal structure because the Wenger regime had gotten too stagnant and backwards.

For these reasons, as well as a decent transfer window, I am confident.

As for Emery's tenure with PSG, I can't really comment on it. I don't know how well they played or what their weaknesses were. The champions league is really a crapshoot sometimes and anything can happen.
>>
>>86834733
>less pressure
I think the pressure by the supporters and media is higher in the premier league than it is for PSG (do PSG even have fans??). However, Arsenal do not have the same pressure by the board and owner like PSG has, especially with the retarded signing of Neymar.
>>
>>86834733
Define success.

If it's getting top-4, then no. But then again, this team is so shit, getting top-4 is an unreasonable demand. It's like telling Sean Dyche to step it up and grab 4th this season.

Emery might install a feistier mentality, but don't expect miracles. I think the results will stay around the same, yet the absolute ridiculous will disappear like random bottlejobs being 1-0 up 15 mins from time and then losing 3-2. We'll suck in a boring way.
>>
lads, I’m scared. I don’t want to experience another 5 or 9-0.
>>
>>86834883
Wait, unless we start Sokratis and Mustafi at the back.

That duo should at least bring some banter with them.
>>
>>86834886
That won't happen. We lost to City at home last season because we faced them when morale was low and nothing seemed to be going our way. We had chances in that game, and if we'd played it at literally any other point that season we would of at least drawn it. This time we've got a fully rested squad while they'll be missing players. I'm not saying we're going to flatten them, but I'm not going to be all doom and gllom about our chances.
>>
>>86834733
I wouldn't really judge any manager for 'failing' at PSG. They haven't made it beyond the quarter-finals of the CL since the 1990s. It's probably one of the weirdest jobs in European football when you compare the level of play in domestic competition to the level of expectation in European competition.

I think Arsenal provides a far more measured environment when it comes to competition expectations. Emery will be given time and nobody expects him to accomplish the extraordinary during his time here.

>>
>>86834733
He'll do well. He was a bad fit for PSG because it was a club of primadonnas while he has a small club mentality and works better with players that have lesser egos. Now, we're undoubtedly a big club and have a couple of egos in the locker room like Ozil, Obama and Ramshit but the players for the most part are ready to work harder after the last four shitshow seasons under Ars*ne. I fully believe he will do better than Poch and Sp*rs this season, mostly because Sp*rs didn't buy anyone this season and their squad will decline hard.

BREAKING: @Arsenal head coach Unai Emery says David Ospina, Joel Campbell and Carl Jenkinson could all leave the club by the end of the month. #SSN
>>
>>86834977
Just want to slap him. Even in these recent videos he's too happy for being so shit you know what I mean? Always a red flag in my book when a player is so below expectations and loving life so much. Shows maybe that they think they're punching above their weight in life and just happy to be somewhat shit in peoples eyes. I don't want a player to be depressed, he's a professional, a husband, a father recently etc but I hate this attitude in players. If you're not completely obsessed with being the best at least hide it better, for us to support you we want to at least believe falsely that you have higher demands on yourself than we do? That's a player I'd back at Arsenal. Not some smug bitch who leeched on Germany's WC win and has nothing to prove to himself or anyone at 26 to his clubs detriment.

Wish I could sit down and talk to the clown in person. I'm sure he'd try to lecture me about priorities in life and all his internalized excuses for not taking it more seriously.

Was thinking about him too. Imagine if he was a SHIT starting CB in a terrible defense that finished a record low 6th and got Wenger sacked after 22 years of service. He’d get SLAUTERED. He’d be an >Andre Santos instead of meme LW-er. Also Podolski made his debut for Germany as a teenager and broke all these records for them and was an icon in world football to some extent. Mustafi was a shitter for Everton, Moyes didn’t back him he went to Spain and played some games then got the last seat on the plane for Brazil. Nothing like Podolski (didn’t he only cost like £10m?)

Maybe Mustafi should’ve been an attacking wonder-kid who carried his home city to relevancy while making over 100 caps for Germany and rode the bench for us maybe he’d get away with it

only city to worry about. auba bangs in 35 goals, ozil and ramsey benefit from actual coaching and torreira wrecks the whole league's midfield.

we can finish second. maybe champions if everyone stays fit and pep gets bored.

I'm thinking Everton, Lestah, West Ham, wolves and Fullham might be able to challenge for Europa league. But we'd have to slip hard and it's unlikely imo. More likely is us having a decent season, finishing about Chelsea but not being able to get top four. Top four is still probably more likely than 7th or 8th tho, I'm just saying what I think is possible.

Another one who said Arsenal are too comfy. I doubt Wenger ever wants Arsenal to be non-competitive, but looking at Ozil sometimes I think maybe it's true that the players have become too comfortable.

I disagreed. Yes, he should left last year because he has become a polarising figure among fans and the treatment he received was unfair, but he at least brought Ozil and tied him down into the team before he left. Per Mertesacker relinquished his captaincy duties when he retired at the end of last season, and in his place we’ll have five leaders - headed up by Laurent Koscielny.

“The captain of this group is Laurent Koscielny, who is injured at the moment,” said Unai Emery.

“After Laurent, our other captains are Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka.

“I want leaders in the team, every player at every time to have the capacity to show leadership, but these are the five players who have a possibility to be the captain.”

>>86846088
we did, we just took the piss
>>
>>86846115
>he was an amazing captain

Not really. He was just the best player in the team. Proper captains were people like Adams, Vieira and Henry
>>
>>86846143
He did a lot of player bonding sessions off the pitch too.

>because what's even the point anymore
You are moral courage that is facing the day in life. I suggest you read up on Stoicism if you haven't already, at least brush up on it. Basically every great man was a Stoic, so believe them when they say there's virtue in living your life. Just as for a carpenter the matter is wood and a sculptor bronze, so is the matter of the art of living each person's own life. Living is virtue enough. You're a good man by virtue of living his life comrade.
>>
>>86846115
Honestly I'm not sure about that, but I really liked that he'd invite the team around his house to bond and shit
>>
>>86846143
Titi didn't even like being captain iirc
>>
>>86846171
That's true, but he was a great one regardless. You want your captain to be able to turn a game within an instant and hard to think of many better than Henry at doing that.
>>
>>86846201
True. Henry is my favourite player ever but I always liked the idea of an Adams type captain who will shout at players during the game and I guess intimidate people, and I still do 2bh.

Adams was one of a kind though, to become captain at 21 and remain for his entire career is unthinkable nowadays. He'd be a walking red card in modern football

jokes aside most of our defenders have been pussies for a while

all of them. remember gallas crying on the pitch

Gabu Paulista was hard.

>>
>>86846286
Yeah, players aren't made like that anymore desu. Like I love Wilshere and wanted him to be captain but he was actually pretty quiet on the pitch even though there's that infamous picture of him trying to start on Fellaini. But he was never actually that kind of guy.
>>
>>86846410
Nah, he was a pussy too. Always looked on the verge of tears.

Unironically believe this too. Santi had an amazing season, with peak RvP in front of him instead of Giroud we would have stood a solid chance.

Stupid thing is RvP was happy to stay too, Arsenal just didn't want to let him go for free at the end of the season.

yes but why make the best deliverer of the ball in your team have to cut in. clearly #10 or LW are his optimal positions

i mean we all know ozil's going to move all over the place in attack so its pretty irrelevant but i'd rather have him cutting in to a variety of options than hitting outswinging crosses to no one because we don't have giroud anymore

Keeping Thiago Silva as captain who fuck him over during la remontada by doing the exact opposite of what he said to him while Kimpembe was on the bench despite being the better player.
>>
>>86854545
Damn, Emery OUT
>>
>>86854575

>>
>>86854545
Thiago Silva is a nutcase though. Cech's captaincy is hardly likely to cause chaos on the pitch

it shouldn't be a problem, the captaincy hasn't mattered at arsenal for a very long time. never stopped anyone from being dropped

>>
>>86854615
our last 3 arteta, mertesacker and vermaelen didn't even play. shows what value it has at arsenal

feels good man
>>
Nice man
>>
>>86854669
traditionally the captain is the only player allowed to talk to referees to prevent them getting mobbed. but yeah that happens anyway so there isn't really a point to them
>>
>>86854669
noticed captains get away with a lot on the pitch, it’s like having a player who’s on -1 yellow card. Also captains can talk to the ref during games and charismatic ones can use that throughout the match to gain favor or set a president with the ref for what’s a foul and what isn’t early in the game which can favor your side potentially.

That’s just what I’ve seen on tele desu. the muh leadership/history stuff cba rn

>>86854682
Might mean new short term signings but also more flops as managers desperately try to sign players that get their system running, only difference is unlike Chelsea or United/Real, we don’t have the money to overhaul a squad that effectively so we’ll be stuck with players who our manager doesn’t want but has to play
>>

He could play that Arteta kinda role, stabilizes the midfield and never loses the ball. Doesn't look impressive but important for a team stacked with speedy technical players.
