Last thread died a while ago, so let's get another going for good classical. I'll start with a very extensive Bach collection [FLAC], weighing in at 52 GiB:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:6fbf206b73377db260cf0585ca2b84b6c5072319&dn=Bach.Complete.Edition.Flac.NoGrp&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fopen.demonii.com%3a1337&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a80%2fannounce
>>
>>789646
I'll seed on my seedbox, but I need seeders to start with.
>>
>>789647
I downloaded it without a problem and am seeding it right now, that's unusual.
>>
It's not just the composer, it's also the performer.

Helping out with a link to the Glenn Gould Complete Original Jacket Collection.

This was an 80 CD (!) limited edition box set that came out in 2007, and which is no longer available from the manufacturer. It covers an immense amount of recordings done by Gould, including - of course - the Goldberg variations (both the 1955 and the 1981 recording) and the Well Tempered Clavier, but also works by other composers than Bach (Strauss, Schumann, Mozart, Beethoven, Händel... You name it).

More information can be found here:

All in glorious flac. Size is about 15 GB:

And as a follow up, here are SACDs (Super Audio CDs, so more hifi than regular CDs) of Gould playing the Well Tempered Clavier, Goldberg variations and 2/3-part inventions:

All audio in .iso files, with scans of the booklets included as seperate files. A little below 14 GB:

Since I am a pianist, I will contribute with another outstanding pianist:

This time, it's Sviatoslav Richter.

The 19th century was a time full of truly great pianists, with their own distinct personalities.

Richter, representing the then Soviet Union, was known all over the world as a true master and prodigy. His piano teacher at the academy famously said that he had nothing to teach Richter, since he was a natural for understanding everything. Richter was known for his generally high tempo, and how he would walk in on the stage in deep concentration, pay no mind to the audience, and pretty much go to war with the piece.

Because of pety quarrels over copyrights, his complete works are divided into record companies.

First up, his complete Decca Recordings (which consists of 51 CDs!):

> magnet:?xt=urn:btih:20eeb1372b50858955e29ccb28beb1c7ce9f2741&dn=%5BRICHTER%5D%20Complete%20Decca-Philips-DG%20Recordings&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.leechers-paradise.org%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fzer0day.ch%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.demonii.com%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969
> 11,4 real GB (or 12,28 GB, if you're a HD-manufacturer trying to brag), all flac
> List of contents: http://www.deccaclassics.com/en/cat/4786778

To try to sum it up, this is mostly recordings of the composers everybody knows: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff... But it also includes works by Weber, Bartók, Dvorák and other less accessible composers. If you're a pianist - like me - you might be interested to know that this includes the Liszt and Chopin etüdes, and the Schumann Toccata (opus 7), as well as some fiendishly difficult (to play) Rachmaninoff.
>>
Next up, Ricther's complete RCA-Columbia recordings (18 CDs):

> magnet:?xt=urn:btih:4d2cf797044f1b97d070a2ee17d7c9dfa22a8afb&dn=%5BRICHTER%5D%20The%20Complete%20RCA-Columbia%20Album%20Collection&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.leechers-paradise.org%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fzer0day.ch%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.demonii.com%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969
> 3,2 real GB (or 3,4 GB, if you're a HD manufacturer trying to brag), all flac
> List of contents: https://www.discogs.com/Sviatoslav-Richter-The-Complete-Album-Collection-Live-And-Studio-Recordings-For-RCA-and-Columbia/release/6514946

This includes a lot of concerts, and more modern (such as impressionistic) pieces. Here you find Prokofiev, Ravel, Debussy... In addition to some concert recordings of the reportoire in the previous magnet (Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven...).

Anyone remember a torrent 2 years ago that sounded a lot like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPmruHc4S9Q It wasn't a Scott Joplin album I don't think, the songs were a lot better than his best of album but I think The Entertainer was one of them. It could have just been a cover artist which explains why all the songs were excellent.
They were all pure piano compositions and old-timey.
Not looking for the torrent (but if you have it that'd be great), mainly looking for a name.

Ensemble organum is gregorian, but I agree that they are "modern".
I also agree that palestrina, buxtehude and so aren't gregorian (but renaisance). anyway it checks for sacred and choral music, so anon may like it.

I had an album when I was in college, and I accidentally left it one night in the studio in the Student Union Radio Station.

It was a collection of various marches and had a couple of 17th century Cromwellian-era marches played on a harpsichord, but I can recall neither the titles, nor the composers.

Any help for even where to start looking?

I used foobar in my Windows days, before I got around to installing Linux, and I agree foobar is awesome.

Sadly, I am not sure about the answer to your question, even though I remember there is playlist functionality and a lot of things you can do.

George Cziffra - The complete EMI and Philips recordings (40 CD)
~11,3 GB, FLAC (booklet and tracklist included)

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:560aaed5a0782be1a538a1f57ad547bb1c2e4f4f&dn=Complete%20-%20George%20Cziffra%20-%2040CD&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.demonii.com%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969

Cziffra was one of the greatest pianists of the 1900s, if not the greatest. He also loved improvising, and was often called the embodiment of Franz Liszt.

His personal story is tragic:

Born into a poor gypsy family in Budapest, Hungary his talent was appreciated not in "finer circles" but in a local circus. Cziffra would show extraordinary talent by making remarkable improvisations of tunes suggested by the audience, even as a 5 year old boy. However, other more dandy pianists would later mock him for being a "circus attraction".

He was sent to fight the Russians for Nazi Hungary, and endured horrible conditions in the Polish winter. Then the Russians caught him and imprisoned him, before forcing him to fight for them against his own country.

After the war he drifted into alcoholism and performed in the bars of Budapest. In 1950 he attempted to flee the communist regime, but was again captured and imprisoned, in Hungary this time. For three years they forced him to do hard labor, permanently injuring his wrists.

He later successfully escaped to Vienna, and settled in France, where he was finally appreciated.

He had a son, who conducted for him during piano concertos. But his son died in a house fire in 1981, rumoured to be a suicide. Cziffra never recuperated from this loss.

Despite all this Cziffra had an incredible repertoire, the most amazing technique on vinyl, and produced many very touching interpretations and arrangements. I don't think anyone comes close to him today.

This famous clip of him warming up gives you an idea:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2accwGEaU
>>
>>863789

Some more samples of Cziffra's playing, showing his artistry and greatness:

Fellow pianist recounts how he first heard Cziffra in Germany. Notice how he talks about "when he defected". Cziffra apparently tried to refuse fighting for the Nazis, but when he came to the Russians in peace they counted him as a prisoner of war:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSBXbX5pQ3g

An untouchable performance of Liszt's "Gnomenreigen":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H0VObXXA7U

Notice the leather wrist band? He always wore that after the forced labour camp in Hungary, to support his heavily injured wrist.

The most emotionally touching performance of a famously difficult Trancendental Etude I have ever heard, from when he had fled Hungary and was finally appreciated:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ifVI_-lKiI

One of his last performances. Made him cry, and makes me cry too. It always seemed to me he must be recounting the loss of his son while playing. The piece is "Les Jeux d'eau a la Villa d' Este", by Franz Liszt:

What you'll want to do is create a torrent.

It's really easy:

You put the files you want to share in a directory of their own, and then you choose "File -> Create torrent" or something similar in your torrent program. In Transmission it's "File -> New...". Look around, you'll find it. I think I've done it in both Deluge and µTorrent too.

If it asks you which trackers to use, you can just find some that seem to work well for you and add them to the list. There's usually no special registration required.

Some popular trackers that still work are:

udp://tracker.leechers-paradise.org:6969

udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969

udp://exodus.desync.com:6969

And one that is more rare but works really well is:

udp://tracker.pirateparty.gr:6969/announce

But you don't even really need trackers if you just let the torrent use DHT and/or PEX to discover peers. One reason you might want to use or not use trackers is that they make it easier for everybody - not just the good guys - to see who is downloading and sharing the torrent. That's what they keep "track" of, and as you can see the ones I've listed are public trackers accessible to anyone.

Following the instructions will produce something which is seeding in your torrent program. Then you need to give us the magnet link to that. In Transmission for example you right click and choose "Copy Magnet Link to Clipboard". Then ctrl+v to paste it in a comment here.

You can also post it to torrent sites like Monova, Zooqle and The Pirate Bay to keep it alive longer. You'll figure out how by looking at those webpages.

PS: If it's on CD or something you need to rip it first, so it becomes a file. There are a lot of programs that make that very quick and easy. Just do a websearch on ddg.gg or something. Try to rip to FLAC if you can, so there is no quality loss: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cd+ripper+flac&t=h_&ia=web

If you're like me and don't quite enjoy the huge symphony orchestra stuff, try soloist music. I'm a fan of >>790134
>>
>>879257

Classical music can be roughly broken down to eras:
medieval; renaissance; baroque; classical; romantic; early 20th century; contemporary

Each composer usually fits snugly inside one era. The eras all sound very different. You might not like all of them. Browse classical.net's "basic repertoire" to see who fits where.

It can also be broken down by what sort of ensemble you need to play the piece:
- solo music (i.e. solo piano, harpsichord, violin with accompaniment, etc.)
- chamber music (string quartets, piano trios, smaller orchestras)
- orchestral music (symphonies, tone poems, etc.)
- choral music
- operas

Each composer usually composed in many of those categories.

That's a short introduction in textual form.

Practical advice: Pick up one of those big 30+ CD boxes that contain a variety of composers (and a variety of eras) and listen to it. All of it. For example, the Harmonia Mundi 50th anniversary box is a good one.

Maybe someone can give you a torrent to one.

(Do not pick a single-composer box. They are not good for this purpose.)

/classical/ general on mu is pretty good for finding new music,

i would recommend bach brandenburg concertos, mozart symphonies 25 40 41, beethoven symphonies 3 6 9, haydn string quartet op 76 no 4, schubert impromptus op 90, chopin ballad no 1

it's hard to recommend classical music in general since there is just so much of it, i've been listening to it for ~8 years or so, and i still find new composers, last one being silvius weiss

There are two Harmonia Mundis, the french one and the german one.

I looked at your torrent's contents (which is the german one) and it's something like 70 % baroque. Eh, whatever, it should fill the bill anyway. Worth a listen.

I like baroque anyway.

(The french box is more varied. That's what I came here to say.)

Also, some of The Eric Roger's Chorals and orchestra if you'd be so kind. Specifically something with Over There on it would be nice. And for the Prazdnichnyj band, something with Marie, Devo Chistaja included would be great.

Does someone have any Ogermann works? He has a some incredible classical works from the 80s, interpreted by Gidon Kremer, Brigitte Fassbaender, London Symphony Orchestra and others that are very hard to come by.

Nevermind, figured it out. Got a component for Foobar2000 that can read SACD isos.
