How to install games:
Most games come in .tar.gz archives. Extract them and you'll get a .sh file. Make it executable (chmod +x file.sh) and run it (./file.sh) to install the game. If you use a graphical file manager, you can right click => Properties => Permissions.
Some games are ISO files. You can extract them like an archive or mount them (mount -o loop file.iso /mnt/something). If you use a graphical file manager, you can right click => Mount, or use Furius ISO Mount (available in most distros' repositories and the Ubuntu Software Center).

Pirates are now packing Windows games with Flatpak and spreading them that way.
Those nasty pirates let you play those games just by downloading a single file and running it with Flatpak, everything is already configured.

https://thepiratebay.org/tag/Flatpak

(Make sure you have the latest Flatpak installed for this to work, the version avaliable in Ubuntu is outdated and gives you a GPG error. Just install the latest one from http://flatpak.org/getting.html)

If it were a reliable system, it'd be fine to hide it.
But hiding something that craps out several times a day and then not providing tools for fixing it, that is a bad thing.

Though the REAL bad thing is that most people have gotten used to a bad OS and can't even imagine anything better.

You have to pretty stupid not to know how to use windows right away.

? Your first encounter with windows would be when you're a kid, and you wouldn't know how it works or what you should/shouldn't do until you've used it for at least 5 years. Same goes for Linux and Mac. You will know better the OS you grow up with and everything else will seem more difficult in comparison. For me windows has much worse usability than Linux/Mac.

How? You can literally just read the .sh or whatever other executable before running it, and even then if it doesn't have root access it can't do shit
>>
>>805558
>if it doesn't have root access it can't do shit
other than going through all your emails, installing a keylogger in your browser and getting banking passwords, etc. etc.

if you don't sandbox it, there's no functional difference to having root access or not because it can still affect the only account that matters, yours
>>
>>805583
you need to go back (to /pol/), and then kys my man ;) even /g/ doesn't have this level of retardation, there's only one place you could be from.
>>
>>805583
You don't understand how permissions work on unix-likes do you
>>
>>805586
Please explain how running an application with your user permissions stops it from messing up your account that has the same permissions.
It's pretty clear that it's you who doesn't understand permissions, you seem to think that as long as something doesn't have root access it doesn't have access to anything important. And that's just not true.
It's fairly easy to install a compromised browser in your $HOME and change your $PATH or menu to run it instead. How does not having root access prevent that?
>>
>>805588
a script can't actually install anything to your system without root access.
the most it can do is fuck around in your home partition/folder and even then what the fuck can it do?
It can't hide itself, nor stop the user from terminating it.
And it can't run itself on boot/automatically either, it would need root permissions, even on systemd machines.
so in short, unless you run a script without catting it/reading it first it's literally your fucking fault. And even if it does happen it's no big deal, your base system is still there and you should have backups of your shit.
like if you run one of those encrypting viruses it would only be able to do anything to your /home, and only for your user.
So you could just login to root and restore your shit from a backup.
This aint windows son
>>
>>805592
>even then what the fuck can it do
Like I told you, it can completely fuck up your own account. Replace anything you run with compromised copies. Unless you check your account's init scripts and config files several times a day, or tripwire them. Do you?

And while it can't run itself on boot, it sure can run itself every time you log in, just by adding itself to your ~/.xsessionrc or ~/.profile file. How often do you check these for modifications?

The only thing it can't do is fuck up other user's accounts or the system itself. But how many other users do you have on your computer? And how happy are you to have a malware infested $HOME so long as your system itself is safe?

Look, I'm not saying Linux is bad or that the permission system doesn't help (because this problem exists just as much on most other operating systems). But you seemed to imply that as long as something doesn't have root permission it's safe to run. And that's just not true. Even without root access it's very easy to get malware into your own account.

Then check the fucking script before running it jesus.
Again, you have to be clinically fucking retarded to actually get some kind of malware installed on your system.
The the point is even if your stupid enough to get your account fucked up, you just nuke your home folder and restore from a backup. There's no real way for malware to propagate in your system unlike on windows
>>805606
Who the fuck just leaves their laptop in pubic unlocked?
What the fuck is this stupidity, even /g/ isn't this bad
>>
>>805623
It doesn't matter if the malware can propagate or not. If it has a keylogger, it gets all your passwords before you realize it's there, and how would you even realize?

Doesn't matter if you can restore a backup. How can you be sure it's not in the backup already?

Also, trying to read a shell script if it's safe may work for simple 5 liners but many installation scripts are far more complex and easy to obfuscate. You're lying to yourself if you think that you're gonna catch some malware by looking at a script.

Anyway, my point is that you should just sandbox everything you run whose creator you don't fully trust. Much, much faster and easier than wasting time trying to read and de-obfuscate a shell script, ffs.

Accounts permissions are not a golden bullet.

i don't play much fps so still learning that game, kinda generic 3d fps gameplay but the maps r comfy n aesthetic, though smallish. doesn't have the CoD feel, more like CS style.

what all are on these torrents?
Some of them are just hashes with no identifying information in the magnet
>>
>>813501
the gog compilations are only ,exe -__-, you can see the name of the other games in the torrent name annon
>>
>>813501
ctrl+f "dn=" and you will see the names dumdum
>>
>>813505
most people tend to want to know what exactly they're downloading before actually starting the torrent...

reaaal descriptive there, smartass
I get that its supposed to be "140 shitty linux shareware shit", but what all might be included, like RPGs? FPSes? Shitty facebook tier shit that nobody wants???
As well as the GoG compilations, he went through the effort of posting them, he could have at least linked a pastebin file list or something in it
>>
>>813539
If you're using a non-shitty torrent client (e.g. Ktorrent and if you're not using KDE then fuck off) it should download the internal list of files before you actually have to download the actual torrent, so you can preview and decide if it's shit or not.
>>
>>813560
that still doesn't excuse your lack of effort
>>
>>813561
dude stop complaining, you're getting free shit, i know it was shabby but i had the links to hand and it was either pasting them in as-is or just not fucking bothering if faggots wanted everything so tidy. next time i think i know which one it'll be (and i had a ton of other more curated magnets)
no good deed goes unpunished, even on this fucking board.
>>
>>813564
>dude stop complaining, you're getting free shit
>this means its okay to give minimal effort on something
that's how we get retards not checking torrents and posting malware, anon.
Its nice and all that you posted it, sure, but try to give some effort, or at least some organization.

>next time i think i know which one it'll be
>someone doesn't like my shitty, low effort posts so i'm going to be a petty 4 year old and throw a fit over it

Like I said, that was one of many. Just not gonna bother with anymore if whiny shits like you are going to nitpick and act entitled while getting free shit. Let some other chump help you out.
>>

You keep making big claims about the quality of your alleged stock of torrents, while at the same time threatening to withhold them from the thread because one poster triggered you

Not only would i say its very unlikely you have much of value, but if you're going to react like this every time someone complains about how you post, then perhaps you should go to a different website?
Or at least learn not to be such a sensitive faggot

I have about 20 games that I haven't seen on the pastebin or elsewhere.
>>

Go stroke your little epenis somewhere else dude. Do you want a medal for this shit or something? Jesus.

Hahaha, that is so pathetic. 20 games you guys! 20! Better be nice to him... hahaha fuck off dude for real.

Does a torrent for the linux version of Minecraft even exist? How playable is it through wine?

Regular Minecraft is made with Java, you don't even need Wine.

Minecraft for Windows 10 doesn't work at all in Wine.

But you should be playing Minetest anyway.
>>
>>813920
It's in java. Even if you use wine to open the windows launcher it would only run the launcher in wine. The entire game will run at native performance. It's fully compatible with Linux and Mac. thepiratebay has a torrent with Linux and Mac installers by teamextreme. Latest available version is 1.12.2
You need Java installed to run it. Once you install Java and download the torrent, you will have 1 Linux/Mac folder and the Minecraft launcher will be in it. Right click and open with java runtime.
