Sorry, more or less new to torrenting. Explain please. From what I can tell the original OP collected them all and started seeding them from his computer if that's what you mean.

>>816515
>sizes
Sizes range usually between 300gb to 500, but it's all in separate folders so pick what you want.

>content
From what I can tell, it's pretty much every major anime from each decade. The best way to see what's in it is to look for yourself. The 1970s folder also has some anime from before the 70s too, like Speed Racer. If you don't want to do that then some of it was posted in the original thread, but that is by no means an entire list

>dubbed, subbed
I can only speak for the files I downloaded but all has dual audio and subtitles.
>>
>>816513
>>816515

They're all subbed. A few are dual audio. Some are (according to others) dub only.
Most of the torrents have a readme with the proper details. If not, download one episode to test out the series in question.

I'm really new to torrenting, I'm downloading the 90's part 2 pack and all of the slam dunk eps are at 100%. Though none of them have picture its just audio and subtitles. conversely the black jack ova only has visuals no audio.
Both of these individual downloads are at 100%, but the overall torrent is only at 50% could this issue be resolved before it hits 100% or are these downloads just fucked?

>animes
>>
Ok so, since Ikov is MIA since November and I've been waiting for months now. I've decided we should get started on our own pack. If he's alive and watching then I'm willing to hand things back over to him after he posts an update. Right now what I've got is a list of anime released in 1996-1999 that haven't been in the earlier torrents for a future 90s part 3. Do you want something added to that list? Check that it isn't in one of the earlier torrents, and then post about it. I just went through MAL and wrote down anything that had decent ratings and was reasonably popular to where it would be one of the more iconic anime. Do you want to help? Post magnets and links for where I can get these files. The only rules of Ikov's that I'm following is that I want to keep the individual torrents below 500gb a piece (so I'm not just grabbing the largest rip of each series), and I'm not concerned with unfinished series (no One Piece, no Detective Conan). I may end up breaking up the end of the 90's into two parts but I want to keep it as one if possible. Also I want to ensure that everything is at least English subbed, multi sub is great and multi audio is good as long as the file size is manageable.

Here's the list:
https://pastebin.com/E5YS7h58

If you want to help post magnets for living torrents or megas or whatever with their size (at the very least), file type, and sub/audio details if possible. Hell if you have one of these anime on you drive and can upload it that'll help a bunch. It will take me a long time to get all of them. Keep in mind this isn't supposed to be a complete library just a starter pack with a mix of good anime from different genres. I will not add just any suggestion unless I can see a significant reason for it.

From what I've heard, it's just because it has artifacting (pic related), which I've never seen as a problem outside of watching shit on my phone. If you just want something to work, VLC is fine.

9 times out of 10, VLC will work the same as MPV or whatever you use, it's just do you want to risk having to skip back a couple of seconds because the artificating affects 40% of the screen for 5 seconds?

I've got both MPV and VLC, and I use them for different things. VLC is perfect for putting stuff on a playlist and just letting it play on my second monitor while I do stuff, and MPV is fine for when I want to watch stuff with 100% chance of no fuck ups. If anything, having both is the way to go.
>>
>>824361
Also VLC is better if you want to watch a stream, but I usually just use Firefox for that.

In my experience artifacting with VLC is pretty bad but only for the first few seconds of a video's run time. But I still use it because of it's user interface and a few extra options that the other main media players sometimes don't have (like more screen ratio options and volume control with mouse scroll)

I found a fairly solid recent 1080p post of Saint Seiya.
The problem is it's Japanese hard sub and stuck at 99.33% as of this posting. The hard subs aren't a huge deal as you can still have soft subs with a separate distinct color like yellow or pink but good luck finding subs for Saint Seiya that aren't 75% trash.

That's because VLC doesn't prioritize the same as MPV. It's the HDD seek time or overloaded bus on your system.
The only time I ever have that issue is when I'm transferring to something on the HDD and watching at the same time or idiots tax their HDD and blame VLC.
Let me guess, you have 1 HDD for Movies and OS. The only time I notice this artifacting is when I stream large file size through a network on a system that is designed to handle it. VLC is instant play, everything else delays.

lolwut? Did I say I hate MPC? I just find VLC's interface much better. The interface that you seem to hate for no apparent reason.

Lacking features but bloat? So what's the bloat?

>>833614
So far that's the only valid argument against VLC. But for convenience, between MPC and VLC I'd still choose VLC. I will check out MPV though, if the interface is good, I'll probably use that then.

I think the interface of MPC is pretty similar to VLC. Also VLC does have a lot of problems with artifcacting.

is about screenshots! And yes, picture quality is better in mvp, but honestly, unless you watch uncompressed UHD files all the time, it's not THAT big of a difference. And now check the quality of all the anime files from this thread...

Main problem with mvp: it's usability sucks so hard, you can not srsly suggest that the average user should use it as standard video player. Only keyboard shortcuts? Options have to be scripted!? 207 pages manual!!?

Stop acting like a 1337 h4xx0r you little leetboi. You think you've got it all figured out, but actually you don't have a clue.

Alright, let's see if I did this correctly.

1990's Part 3 years 96-97

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:ef37a284197f6c6ca1ae5699e0d1eb9abe44a828&dn=1990s%20Part%203&tr=udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fopen.demonii.com%3a6969%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a6969%2fannounce

Part 4 will start once it's uploaded to a seedbox somewhere. I no longer have the internet I did when I started this so sharing will be shitty until there are more seeders and I can stop using a part of my bandwith uploading to a seedbox. But it will be there for a while.
>>
>>837563
Thanks, I'm not going to download it all (due to lack of space, bandwidth, and interest) but I'll seed the bits I do download for a while.
>>
>>837563
Alright take 2, 1990's Part 4 years 98-99.

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:8f5ebbd0e1b33544cbaa310c7058d63ce1f38f16&dn=1990s%20Part%204&tr=udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969/announce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fopen.demonii.com%3a6969%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a6969%2fannounce

I don't think I'm going to continue into the 2000's. I just don't care about as much anime that came out after this point, and it took forever at almost 4 months. This was a fun project to do though, I enjoyed hunting down all the different shows so maybe I'll come back to do it later. I have a seed box running these two torrents and that will probably go for another month or until I don't feel like paying extra money to give you guys anime for free. After that it will just rely on what ever seeders we have. But keep the magnets around and post them in other anime threads here so that they'll continue to live. Fun fact: The full size of the entire collection is ~3.14 TB which means today I'm going to eat some pie today.

>>
Once I download everything, I'll start seeding 24/7. This may take a while to download though. Doesn't look like there are many people with 100% on the 80s & 90s. Currently seeding the 70s.

Absolute brainlet here, I have limited hdd space right now, I downloaded select anime from the 90's part 4 pack by calculating the total space each series would take up based on the size of the episodes, and counting the episodes int he folders before downloading.
this worked fairly well, but I ended up downloading some series I didn't and missed some that I did want.
My question is, is there a better method for sorting through the files before downloading them. I can't seem to see the names of the files before I download them just how many there are and their size.

Enjoy manually selecting each track you want every single time you open a file because you can't apply a default.
>>
>>854264
You can set default tracks in MPC. You just go to Options->Playback->Default track preferences.

If you misspelled and meant MPV, you are also wrong, because you just need to add a line in your mpv.conf file for each preference. To have japanese audio and english subtitles be default, you'd add:
slang=eng,en
alang=jpn,jp,eng,en
>>
>>854363
I assumed anon was using MPC. That also doesn't work in MPC because there are some series that have multiple subtitle and audio tracks and your defaults will need to be changed for that individual series.

Why is just this show so rare anyways?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jHSp5JykqY
>>
>>855019
Time is a great filter, or so the saying goes. There are a lot of OVAs that are not discussed anywhere outside of Japan. Either because they were rare to start or only released on vhs and are being lost to time at best. Still there's lots of stuff that is known and is still hard to find, and the reason is usually that the show or movie just kind of sucks.

Like for example, Brain Powered. It was made by Sunrise, the company that made gundam as a response to show they could do what evangelion did. When your creative team is trained for decades to write stories to sell toys, they just aren't going to be able to write a story that has the same emotional weight. Because it's just not the same to have a creative who writes/draws to sell model kits for a living versus the guy who writes/draws to sell robots with depression and humans turning into tang.
>>
>>855019
>Why is just this show so rare anyways?

It's not. It's very well seeded on a good few private trackers that practically everybody is on.

>Everyone is on
Bullshit, I've only been on AB for a couple of months and since I'm mainly on /m/ there's plenty of obscure old stuff I've been looking for. No wonder, AFAIK there is no complete collection of even the first season of Pocket Monsters subbed.
Kind of strange for a series as popular as Pokemon, while we have very obscure anime with unofficial subs.
>>
>>857152
Fansubbers want to be recognized and you do that by either doing new+popular stuff well, or by subbing something that hasn't been subbed before thereby opening it up to a new audience. Pokemon falls into that unfortunate category of having a perfectly serviceable dub, and a shit-ton of episodes that are annoying to translate, and just not being very interesting to re-watch multiple times in a row. It's viewer population is also 90% normies who only care about the dub because it's what they grew up on. These are all similar reasons to why we don't get a lot of japanese kid shows translated.

You can rip the english dub's subs onto the raw's if you don't care about having the correct timing or names, but at that point you're doing work to get a mostly useless product.

>calling anyone a faggot while using VLC
>I hope you're joking.

How about "I hope you're joking calling anyone a faggot while using Windowns"?

You are literally paying lots of money (yes you are. It's included in the price when you buy the PC) for bloatware that is designed to help the government spy on you.

You get tons of malware, a keylogger is preinstalled by Microsoft (in Windows 10), you will never be able to erase all traces of the cheeze pizza you inevitably run into, and the cops and spy agencies have tons of programs written to backdoor your system.

Meanwhile you are supporting Micro$oft, who will gladly push DRM and other bullshit to hinder file sharing, and who are notorious for making hardware and protocol specifics secret so that open source alternatives cannot be written.

Not to mention that the whole Windowns OS is written to work like a toy, not to give you control of your own machine.

Yes, I preferred MDC too, when Windowns started replacing their original Media Player with "Windows Media Player"/WMP, "Windows Media Center" and all that shit. That's when Media Player Classic was written, because the need arose. And I agree, it's a great player!

However, I am no longer ten years old, so I learned how to install and use an OS that let's me control my computer and see what's going on, like GNU/Linux and *BSD. And which encourages contributions rather than sabotage them.

You should too.

MPC is WIndowns only, but VLC does the job fine. VLC was written for Linux anyway, which is probably why you are having trouble with the Downs-erized Windows-version.
>>
>>857617
"MDC" should be "MPC". Just a typo.
>>
>>857617
>>857618

And "let's me control" should be "let me control".

Anyway, tl;dr:

I used to prefer MPC to VLC too. But Windowns is completely out of the question, so that rules out MPC.

What is probably happening with your external storage is this:

Internal drives use an ATA interface which is really fast, and which will allow for things such as memory mapping. Basically your OS will write stuff to a section of RAM and then tell your internal drive to read it in large chunks.

USB (or whatever you use to connect your drive) is much more limited in this regard, and you'll see how torrents and hard drives differ:

Torrents will download and seed random parts of the file. This is good, because it means that people end up having different parts and you can gather it all together, rather than everyone having the first part. However, this also means you will be accessing different parts of different files all over the place, and for a conventional hard drive that involves spinning a platter and moving a read head to different places all the time.

Worse still: If your file system doesn't support "sparse files" (meaning to save the information that "there is a large section of 0 in this area" rather than write out a bunch of 0s on the drive), your drive will have to do a lot of extra work. If your external drive is formatted with FAT32 for example (which is common on memory sticks to ensure maximum compatibility) there is no way in that file system to specify sparse areas, so if you're writing something at an offset 4 GB into a new file, your drive has to write 4 GB of zeros first.

With no direct memory mapping of files, and everything squeezed through a serial connection like USB, buffering what to write becomes more tricky. And like I said: When you are torrenting you are not reading big, long streaks of harddrive data, you are telling the drive to look different places all the time, which will make it transfer files much more slowly than you would expect. The situation is even worse if your drive has a minimum read/write size over USB, while your torrent program tries to send and read smaller pieces (meaning a lot of data is just discarded).
>>
>>828007
>>857627

Putting all this information together, what is going on is this:

Your PC could be trying to buffer data before sending it in larger chunks to your drive, and it might just be unable to do it well. Or it might be stupid and not buffering at all, which means your drive will get new and conflicting instructions on where to read/write small pieces of data all the time, overloading it with requests that will make it seek and read/write more than it should have to.

This in itself might be enough to overload it. Basically, your drive will recieve all these instructions on what to do, the memory which sits on the external drive to buffer all requests will get full before the requests are handled, and it will have to just tell the OS "NO MORE!!!" until it manages to finish doing what you've already told it. Some drives will even physically shut down, so you can hear and see it stop working. Then it will take some time before it starts accepting data again.

It might seem like there is nothing you can do to fix this, but there actually is: Try different torrent programs.

You see, some torrent programs are actually quite good at buffering data on your PC (which is the alternative to memory mapping files like you would do with internal drives). So they can gather up big chunks and then send those, instead of ordering your drive to go all over the place.

Also, some torrent programs are particularly bad at managing external drives: I've noticed Transmission does NOT use sparse files even if the external drive supports it! So if you use Transmission, your drive is actually being told to write huge streams of "0" to the disk all the time, just to put the data you've downloaded at the end of it. Needless to say: This will mean your drive has no chance of keeping up with the requests from the torrent program, and it will have to slow things down.
>>
>>828007
>>857627
>>857630

If you don't feel like trying different torrent programs, you can do this:

1. Select as many files as you can and download them fully.

2. Exit (shut down) your torrent program.

3. Move the fully downloaded files to the right folder on your external drive (so it would look as if you had downloaded them there).

4. If there are still files you haven't downloaded: Tell your torrent program to "verify files" or whatever so it will find out they are not there anymore, and go to 1.

5. Choose "set location" or whatever it's called in your torrent program to point it to where you've moved the now complete set of downloads to. Or simply delete the torrent and load the magnet again, setting the place it already exists as download location. The point is just to change the directory where your torrent program will be looking for the files.

6. Choose "verify data", "recheck files" or whatever it's called in your torrent program. Your torrent program should realize you have downloaded all the files, and now you can seed.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but I've done this before, and it works fine. Looks like you would have to do 2-3 moves for each pack (since 2*200GB = 400GB).
>>
>>857627
>>857630
>>857632

Another thing i just remembered:

Transmission is known to have another problem too: If you are running many torrents (like, hundreds) it will periodically just halt all transfers and set the speeds to 0 for a while, until it resumes after a minute or two. As far as I can tell this has to do with the fact that it is updating the resume files (the files it uses to keep track of which parts you have downloaded and what you are missing), and it just freezes all transfers and takes a long time to do it.

Again: The only solution I know of would be to try another torrent client. But then again: This has nothing to do with whether you are using an external drive or not.

And yet another thing:

If you have an external drive that is very slow, this could also be because a lot of the writes/reads are in fact failing, because the drive is about to crash. This is especially a problem on flash media. Might be a good idea to backup your data.

Does anyone have a MEGA link or a seeded torrent for SMC's Sailor Moon R upload (with the extra photos of the dvd's and covers?)? I can only find torrents without seeders, while the rest of their releases have at least one.
I want to compile all of them and make a MEGA upload as this is my 2nd time downloading the series and I'm getting sick of relying on torrents with 1 or 2 seeders.

or people use windows to play games or photoshop (GIMP is not an alternative)

I run Windows 7 btw
>>
>>860505
GIMP is absolutely an alternative (you can even write your own filters), and there are plenty of others too:

https://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/best-linux-photo-editors-6-top-image-suites-on-test-1147722
https://www.usethistip.com/best-photo-editors-for-linux.html

If you can't use Linux because you need Adobe Photoshop it is less likely because there is something you as a photography expert absolutely need in Photoshop, and more likely because you are too dimwitted to figure out how to use another program than you are used to.

But if you want to stay retarded and use Windows binaries, you can run them on Linux through WINE (a Windows emulator) anyway.

There are plenty of games that run on Linux, and many of them free and open source community projects. You might get arrested for making a cool mod of Halo 3 (see >>829283), but nobody's going to arrest you for making a cool mod to OpenArena, because it's just a much cooler scene with different principles/attitudes.

Even so, if you only want the flashiest new commercial games, and only want to run them natively and not through WINE, Linux has Steam too. And more developers would make games specifically for Linux if you retards stopped supporting Windows as a the default platform.

Well, at least you weren't the special kind of retard that "upgraded" to Windows 8 or 10. It might interest you though that Linux actually gets BETTER with upgrades. Kind of a cool feature.

I've used Windows for most of my life too, but I finally made the transition and freed myself, and never ever have I regretted it. Sure, it's a handful at first, to learn stuff and get used to a new system. But you are just making excuses for yourself to delay it. Kind of like how I am delaying installing BSD too, although it's about time I did!

PS: When you finally get around to installing Linux, try Debian. It's less commercial than Red Hat, less spyware than Ubuntu, and still more user friendly than most other distros.
>>
>>860511
GIMP is not an alternative to Photoshop, performance alone makes it not worth using over Photoshop.

Linux is cool though, and unless your in a design role your probably don't need any image editor more powerful that a web-based one..
>>
I feel really late to the party, but I do have a question for anyone that can provide an answer for me.
Providing there's a few seeders (80's pt1, 1982), I'm gonna download The Mysterious Cities of Gold.
Now, I've seen someone say files are dual audio but that's not really of major concern, what I am after is the possibility of a few screenshots to have the overall quality of the files.
I KNOW somewhere out there, there are high quality MPEG2 encodes of the Japanese release (Taiyō no Ko Esuteban/太陽の子エステバン)
If the quality of THESE encodes is AS GOOD as the Japanese files I'll proceed with the download.

Many thanks in advance.
>>
>>860511

Well I was thinking of switching to Linux once Win7 loses support. The huge customizability is very appealing, but its just a fact that there are a bunch of proprietary software on Windows that there are no alternatives to or just downright better. I might just have to dual boot for muh games.
>>
>>860526
It's not really that great. To me the quality is very watchable, there is some screen jitters fairly often in it. But I grew up on bootleg VHS tapes and didn't even buy a dvd player till 2004. So don't take my word for it. Pic is from episode 1.

The different parts of a given decade are organized chronologically (ie, Part 1 of the 80s torrents might be 80-83, Part 2 84-87, etc.—these year ranges are hypothetical and should not be taken reflect the actual torrent contents), so look on Wikipedia and see when HnK was released, and then check which torrent contains that year.

to summarize windows vs linux
what causes frustration and doesn't work in windows, remains frustrating and doesn't work
what causes frustration and doesn't work in linux, you can overcome by figuring out the system
ex: windows system dies - goodbye
ex: linux system dies - oh look, i did something wrong that i can feasibly act upon and resolve
(not to mention reinstalling and resetting the base system is far faster in a worst case scenario (since reversing things in linux is far easier once something messes up))

Man you have a very slightly correct idea of what's going on, but please don't explain things in this horrible and confusing way. You make it sound 10 times more strange, unreliable and complicated than it really is. You look like a kid that's just anxious to explain things, but your explanation is so wrong that you must do a much better job because you are just confusing others.

Just off the top of my head (I dread reading your blocks of text again)
- usb is a serial protocol, but it is by no mean slow; usb2 is about 40 MB/s, usb3 is > 500 MB/s and 2.5" disks can sustain > 100 MB/s writes, and they are not even SSDs.
- a drive is slow because it's about to fail? that's so wrong. The bad sector table is there to avoid trying the bad sectors again and again, you are not making any sense.
- transmission, or any other torrent client, keeps the resume information in a very small file. A big torrent will have a couple thousand pieces, let's say 15000. A file 15000 bytes long is all that's needed, and that's updated in a millisecond. Don't make shit up. I have programmed several torrent clients. If every chunk is assigned to one bit of every byte, a file with 15k chunks needs only to be 15000/8 = 1875 bytes long. Torrent clients can be very badly written and take a long time to do things because the programmer was incompetent or tested it with 10 torrents and thought he was a genius.

Again, don't make shit up if you want to look smart. There's always someone who will catch you.
