>>
>>869834
Laserdisc WAS an analog format you dumb fuck, only thing digital about it was (possibly) Dolby digital sound - though many titles didn't have it. That's why there weren't menus unlike digital media such as DVD/BluRay
>>
>>869836
1s and 0s aren't analogue. No matter how the data is stored, it is done so digitally. Are you going to also tell me cds, dvds and blurays are analog?
>>
Some of you must have grabbed some great VHS rips from CG during freeleech.
>>
>>869830
Those are pretty bad quality, but thanks anyway. He has some great uploads though.
>>
>>869854
Is there any way to get an invite or is it still "permanently closed"?
>>
>>869837
From wikipedia: "The LaserDisc at its most fundamental level was still recorded as a series of pits and lands much like CDs, DVDs, and even Blu-ray Discs are today. However, while the encoding is of a binary nature, the information is encoded as analog pulse-width modulation with a 50% duty cycle, where the information is contained in the lengths and spacing of the pits"
So shut the fuck already you dumbfucks and start sharing.

Stryker is a 1983 Philippine action film directed by Cirio H. Santiago. The film is set in the future where after a nuclear holocaust, survivors battle each other over the remaining water in the world.

"... damn-near-budgetless glimpse of a world gone mad, STRYKER, which was also released under the rather generic-sounding action title SAVAGE DAWN."

You can read all you want on the internet, pits and lands are equivalent to 1s and 0s. Just because a format is obsolete doesn't mean it's analog. I was just busting balls and you got all bent out of shape. Thread should be called "obsolete formats" instead. A laser disc is a digital format, an optical lens must read the DATA STORED on the DISC. You can't change the facts.

Any particular reason you want the LD versions? I'm pretty sure the VHS remasters are better quality, although the 1989 LD's are supposedly the best (but harder to find). Not sure if that's true, but I do know the Definitive Collection had some noticeable issues compared to VHS.

LD is the unaltered original versions with higher video quality

Laserdiscs do the pits differently than a CD or DVD. The pits on a LD resemble more of wave that gets modulated into composite video by the player.

The digital content was encoded into this analog signal.

I had forgotten that I did actually rip a couple of things I had on VHS back with I still had my Win98 machine with a TV card in it. Useful? I don't know. Desirable? C'mon, we're talking about VHS rips. Not entirely sure what the appeal is here, unless it's something you can't get anywhere else - like Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man starring Rod Steiger was for a long time.

Anyway, here's a magnet for Lupin III's Greatest Capers. This was a two-episode tape released by Streamline Pictures in 1995 that contains the episodes "Albatross, Wings of Death" and "Aloha, Lupin!"

Why is this notable? The primary reason is these two episodes were directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and it shows. Also, the dub is a little strange, but that was on purpose: Lupin is frequently referred to as "Wolf", part of an dodge by Streamline to preempt any potential legal hassle for using a character based on the works of Maurice Leblanc.

This is a complete longshot, but is it possible that what you are remembering might have been part of the Scholastic DVD series?

Each disk contains several children's stories - many based on famous books like Curious George, Where the Wild Things Are, Harold and the Purple Crayon, etc. - and while I don't specifically remember any of them involving a claymation octopus, there is a *lot* of material there.

both alien and the thing feel very claustrophobic in 4:3, the scene where the crew of the nostromo are running about in the air ducts scanning for hte xenomorph are intense enough in normal resolutions, in 4:3 it's basically unbearable.

Let's keep this alive. Add to some seedboxes.

People love Hayao Miyazaki.

I'll seed again overnight tonight. I kept it going over almost the entire weekend, but I didn't see a whole lot of activity.

I also have a VHS rip of Sol Bianca. It's good if you never find out there was a sequel or a short-lived OVA series after that.

>People love Hayao Miyazaki.

... and why shouldn't they? He gave us Cagliostro Castle *and* Nausicaa!

Anyone have Stepmonster or The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage? I am in the process of putting up my first LD rip, Short Time with Dabney Coleman. Tomorrow it should be on my seedbox ready to seed.

Even if I could get my old setup to work and rip Warriors of the Wind, there's no point. Someone else has already done it!

I don't know ... nostalgia? Curiosity? Maybe you're some kind of weirdo with a rabid hate-boner for environmentalists and want to see a version of Miyazaki's masterpiece that has excises every scene suggesting Mankind has done this to itself.

I agree; the original really is much better, that's why I said:

No point in posting the rip of Sol Bianca, either; it's available on Youtube as well:
