Transform or flip commanders would be neat. Either that or revisit Experience Counters.

>thread question

Ally Color! I want my busted new UW Legend thats even better then Brago and Augustin! Just kidding, I hope they realize how utter shit this years are and just... dont make new commander decks next year. And stop making commanders that interact in ways they really shouldnt (giving you free stuff just sitting in the command Zone, Counters you will never get to remove like experience, that new one that interacts with Exile and you never get to remove those Counters from Cards in Exile).
>>
>>54853574

allied color pairs, actually good jeskai commanders, actually good sultai commanders, animar and sen triplets reprints, and a colorless deck

Decks with a decent manabase
>>

Your taste is poor and you should feel bad. The Jank-Master General is an excellent commander. Experience counters are woefully inoffensive as far their design goes as well.

>>54853706
Sultai has Tasigur and Sidisi, who are both decent. But yeah, wedges could all use more options.
>>
>>54853671
Enchantment Commander? Theros Gods are half there.

Artifact Commander? What's the real difference between that and an emblem? (same for Enchant as well)

They'd have to make some removal for them and emblems as well, right?
>>
>>54853574
>What would you like for C18?
how about a deck where most of the lands dont come into play tapped for a change? its pretty irritating to have to spend 50 bucks on a mana base just to make the precons playable
>>
>>54853731
I'll take vivids (reluctantly) over tri-color filterlands like Castle Sengir or Wizard's School.
>>
I can't stop collecting Amonkhet and HoD cards

I don't know if this sort of thing is allowed here but I'm looking for help or suggestions for my EDH deck. I've played it once against the base esper control deck that released several years ago. Any cards that I definitely should add/remove?

Yeah, I hate that Card. They didnt really break experience Counters because 4 of them are actually not that easy to get experience Counters on. Meren on the other Hand...

TQ: enchantment, sorcery, instant, creature, and land/artifact themed decks, not exclusive but centered arround and seting boundries, not based on color pie but on type of spell. even if its for this one set or commander in general.

another question i have is, how much cheesecake is fine and whats too much for you. i like cute anime sleeves and mats but too much titty or overtly sexual things kind of puts me off. specially because i play against HS kids and sometines the children of my friends that play. i also play against many girls and would hate to make tg em feel unvonfortable sience im an old dude that likes scantly clad 2d drawings.i

>>
>>54853788
honestly they just need to make more use of pain and shock lands or lands that have a decent upside that come in tapped like man lands. plus commander is the perfect place for them because they will not fuck with standard. they could even do a mana confluence or city of brass reprint. the amount of tap lands in the commander products is ridiculous

A bunch of good lands which only function properly in EDH so legacy and modern scalpers can't pick them up, stuff like "this taps for X mana but only if your commander is X color", no, I don't give a shit how stupidly on the nose this is.
>>
>>54854236
Sorin needed to stick his vampire dick in something so he got a young, impressionable planeswalker. Little did he know that she would burn his house down when he didn't answer her calls.
>>
>>54854304
You mean like Path of Ancestry? Which should have just been an EDH specific Cavern of Souls, fuck. "Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Use this mana only to cast creature spells that share a type with your commander."
>>
>>54853653
I wish they did some sort of revisit of the commander mechanics, like experience counters and partners.

>>54853574

I'd like Allied colored decks with monocolored partners, but I know that ain't happening because Wizards wants to do themes from now on, so fuck that let's go with decks themed around different planes

>Kamigawa deck focused around the Umezawa clan witha bunch of new Samurai and Ninjas
>Fiora deck with a voting/politics matters theme, maybe with a new Brago or some elf fucker like Edric
>Theros deck with an actually good commander focused around enchantments (Something between Blaxos and Uril in power level)
>Old Phyrexia artifacts/saccing shit with a card for Gix

I won't get this either but who the fuck knows

Meta dependent. If you're getting too much value out of it someone might blow it up. If you're playing an artifact heavy meta it might slip by the radar.

It's amazing that out of fetchlands, painlands, shocklands, checklands, handlands, tangolands, filterlands, and even fastlands, Wizards managed to reprint almost absolutely fucking none of them. They even skipped out of ASH BARRENS, a card which they designed only last year just for commander.

There's a myriad of other weird lands they could've included too. Ancient Ziggurat, the tainted lands etc. Even the lair tri-lands would've been nice compared to what's in them.

I can't imagine ever playing the dragon deck out of the box. What an absolute piece of shit. 15/36 lands come in tapped and you don't even get a fucking evolving wilds for your pains.

Make some tokens and run Tribal support. There's a lot of flavorful synergy such as Lords, Kyren Negotiations, Goblin Bombardment, Goblin Sharpshooter, Boggart Shenanigans. The list goes on. I didn't even think of Nemesis Mask and other taunt effects.

Question regarding Panharmonicon interactions:

With Sidisi, Undead Vizier; how I think it works is that her exploit trigger happens twice because that's the ETB effect, and then for each exploit trigger you get a tutor trigger, so two creatures sacrificed and two tutors total, is that correct?

And with Flameshadow Conjuring, a creature entering the battlefield causes the 'you may pay R' trigger to happen twice, so you'll get two tokens, but only if you pay R twice, is that how it works?
>>
>>54855590
Flavorwise, he would want to arrive for his master quickly(by riding it) and then handing over the reins.
>>
>>54855564
Creatures like these should have something like: "[name] has hexproof when your commander is on the battlefield".
>>
>>54855564
He should have cost less and been less beefy, honestly.

You don't want to attack with him because he isnt big enough to survive most blockers in EDH, and it's the boost that your general gets that it's important here.

If he was 3 mana with a smaller body I think I could have found room for him somewhere. As is I don't know what deck wants him.
>>
Here's a simple rules question: Mairsil currently has 1 card exiled with it. An Aetherling. I activate the ability to exile it and return. During my endstep, Mairsil returns. Can I then activate the ability again, during my turn, because it's a new Mairsil?
>>
>>54855705
Yep. You double the triggers caused by the creatures entering the battlefield, which includes the optional costs of those abilities.

He's no Bastion Protector, that's for sure. The sad part is that Haste bonus is only relevant for one turn. Then all he gives is +2/+2. Red also has plenty of Haste enablers as is. Trample would be been more desirable.,
>>
>>54855719
But that's a massive flavor fail if you play him and your commander in the same turn.

Haste on him would be wierd, especially because you don't ride a horse hard to hand it off to somebody else. Also he is a vampire, so he has flying. If anything the dude flew a horse to your general.

Vampires are much better as aristocrats since most of the staple cards are already vampires. Edgar is also really useful for that strategy since he's a sac fodder making machine.

The idea was to make a Impact Tremors/Purph deck that took advantage of the extra tokens Edgar made. Then taking advantage of Edgar's access to white to blink in order to trigger the Tremors effects again.

Anointed procession in play gets you infinite colored mana with Phyrexian Altar, or infinite other mana with Thermo/Soldevi.

I was thinking about getting the Cat deck coming out and going hard on the tribal element. Adding things like Door of Destinies, Urza's Incubator, and Coat of Arms.
Is there anything else that I really should throw in? The precon looks pretty decent by itself, but I've never really played with cats or this kind of strategy before.

I'm also debating whether I should get Cats or Vampires because Edgar's Eminence trigger is just stupid good with sac effects and a few good vampires out.
Is the Vampire deck strictly better or should I stick with Cat tribal?

>Pic related should have been given Haste instead of Flying and then given your commander Horsemanship

the picture shows a floating vamp holding the reins of his master's horse. I would say the art is pretty representative of the card mechanics.

If you want to play Mardu Purph/ETB, just use Alesha with a few 2 power token makers and one or two Anthems. Add Panharmonicon and Annointed Procession and you'll have more than enough triggers.
>>
>>54856656
>shift the model in the picture down 1 cm
The art was never relevant to the discussion of what would have made it more playable.
>>
The most ridiculous thing about Bloodsworn Steward is that he's in the deck with the commander that already has haste
Obviously you could add him to a different deck or use one of the others possible commanders, but playing the deck as is basically already has a card that is half useless
>>
>>54856615
The decks don't have to be built around that theme. I'd just like some more commanders and maybe basics set on those types of planes.
>>
>>54856718
Whatsherface Licia really likes the haste and pump
>>
>>54856615
For an obscure plane theme:
>Put all new cards at mythic and rare
>Reprints are at common and uncommon but have flavor and art fit to that plane

I like the mainstream planes for what they are, but I'm honestly getting tired of them because of them showing up too often. Maybe it's time to shed a little more light on these planes that may be too distant for the current storyline to even touch. Since this is Commander, not much can be spoiled (lore-wise) for these planes, thus retaining mystery, but increasing interest.
>>
These new decks look like complete ass and not worth the purchase. Cats, really?
>>
>>54856965
No, surprise, it was actually elves the whole time.
>>
>>54856880
That makes a kinda shit theme for WotC, though, since commissioning new art is gonna be one of their more significant costs. Refluffing all the extra cards that go into a few commander decks would probably not be economical.

However, I'd love for them to slide in windows to little-known or unknown planes in future Commander products. You know, the kind of glimpses that make Alpha, Legends, and Future Signt so goddamn awesome.
>>
>>54853574
Id like to see a colorless deck, colorless needs more sorcery/instant/enchantment support besides there are only so many artifacts and colorless eldrazi you can stand in a deck
>>
>>54857014
I don't know how much the 56 new pieces of art work cost WotC this C17, but that sure didn't stop them from greenlighting them.

They can also always reuse art we've never seen before and tack it onto some of the new cards.
>>
>>54857164
>I don't know how much the 56 new pieces of art work cost WotC this C17

Probably about $56.
>>
>>54855036
up yours davis
>>
>>54857164
56 (14 per deck for four decks) < 240 (60 per deck for four decks) to re-art all the nonlands that need plane-appropiate art. Vaulted art will help, if any of it fits the theme (I imagine it would be hard to find vaulted art that is recognizably Pyrulea, say)

Plus there's the real risk that EDH: The Planechasening wouldn't be as resonant as EDH: Multiverse tour with places you've at least heard of.

As long as the cards are interesting art and mechanics-wise, players will overlook the (lore) unfamiliarity.

Beginner tips:

Check your commander and do a build around his ability
Have 34 lands
Have 6 mana stones or more if you want
Always have a full hand
Discard is terrible

Is this correct?

>>
>>54859939
That's not an issue of proxies, it's one of power level. They shouldn't be playing cards that threaten to start an arms race.

Proxying in general is totally fine (outside of an official event, which could get the TO in trouble). Players who hate proxies *on principle* do it because they can't stand to see other players enjoy the game without buying into it as much. It makes them feel like they wasted money, and they hate it.

>>
>>54860075
I was under the impression its like a staples binder, where you have cards that are used in multiple decks in a single binder so you can swap them in and out of the deck you are using, I.e instead of buying 10 wastelands, stripmines and crucibles just buy 1 and use them in the deck you are playing then remove them at the end of the gamr
>>
>>54860075
I think it's where you keep the card in a binder and proxy it in your deck since you technically own it

Allows you to play the card in multiple decks without switching out the card every time.

At least that's my take on it.
>>
>>54860075
Keeping a library of singles and full decklists in a binder to swap in and out of decks, due to an obsessive need to always use real cards when playing in this casual format, instead of just sticking a piece of paper and a land in a sleeve and calling it a day.
>>
>>54860209

>>
>>54860144
Yeah, that's totally fair. It's not hard or expensive to make your proxies look decent. I use full-color Beta Mana Vault and Invention Mana Crypt scans for my 2 proxies. IMO the Crypt looks better unfoiled anyway.
>>
So I have a question in regards to this card. My friend casts it and makes it monstrous. After he makes it monstrous the second part of the ability procs and he distributes the damage to my monsters accordingly. Here is where I get confused; the next turn, without turning it monstrous, he distributes damage again. He does this multiple times throughout the game without making his creature monstrous again. I know that you can't make Polukranos monstrous again after it becomes monstrous, so why is he able to use the second part of the monstrous ability over and over again? I think he is making an illegal move
>>
>>54860075
it's when you combine the inherent annoyingness of bringing indiscipherable proxies of expensive, powerful cards while retaining the air of self-righteousness and elitism of actually owning those cards, but with an added spice "ok give me 3 minutes to put these cards out of my binder into my deck"

I just have only one color of card sleeve for all my decks, so I can swap them immediately.
>>
>>54857906
G/R is cheap and easy to learn with. Plus having access to green will allow you to play without dropping dosh in more expensive non green ramp
>>
>>54860027
"High quality" proxies suck because you just know some neckbeard is using them to scam kids. Shit you obviously printed at home is fine as long as it's not just all the best shit in the game but otherwise proxies are pure scum tier.

Literally every hobby where bootlegs aren't seen as scumbag nonsense people get scammed.
>>
>>54860438
Nothing that you said constitutes an actual, reasoned argument against proxies.
>boring
>gay
Damn, you're right. Not having more than one of each ABUR dual IS boring and gay. I'll just go buy a few more.
>>
Lookimg to make ghave combo, picked him cause hes a decent competitive commander but i can also play him for value with my other group. Looking for a good competitive list but having trouble finding one without at least ten cards that are just straight up bad. It seems like no one who plays ghave competitively wants to post a decent list. Any help?
>>
>>54860476
There are sites that sell high-DPI marked proxies (usually they have a special non-MTG design on the back side). I prefer using those since they're cheap and you can't scam people with them.
>>
>>54859939
>Do you let people use chinaman or proxies in your group?

No because it always leads to people proxying the best cards possible and having decks made entirely of proxies.
>>
>>54860441
I never really bothered looking at the card since I trusted him,but since he has it as his commander and the fact that he could get it into the battlefield like turn 3 and make it monstrous turn 4 most games, basically made it so I have no creatures on the battlefield for like a couple of turns until I managed to get hexproof or shroud on some of the key creatures that I have.
>>
How do you guys build your voltron decks? Little to no interaction (ie removal) or a good amount to help support the commander in addition to the regular ramp and equipment?
>>
>>54860547
And that's perfectly fine if you ask me.

I'm just against bootlegs in general in every hobby because they're not made by "bros" they're made by thieves out to scam people 99% of the time and than nerds use said scam artist's products to scam other people.

The worst is retro video games to be honest because people trade that shit into GameStop all the time and GameStop NEVER checks to make sure the games are real. Some guy recently paid $350 for a bubble bobble 2 that was fake and just testing the game would have proven it so because it was an entirely different game. He got his money back thankfully.

that's the thing, i don't buy duplicates of expensive cards. i avoid building the same archetypes across multiple decks so that i don't need to

as for not being a poorfag? my last deck cost me 50 euros total, shipping included. it still performs pretty fucking well, even against tryhard shit because i'm creative about saving money.
>>
>>54860595
It didn't really bother me since it was casual matches, but yeah I was pretty dumb for not actually looking at the card.

7 removal based instants, 4 sorceries, 3 creatures with removal abilities, and 2 Equipment (SwordFire/Ice + Jitte)

I would say play mats with smut on em are a no go. Sleeves on the other hand it depends how bad it is. I would say having some hot angel or anime chick on them is probably k so long as shes not unresonably thin on clothing. Its never been my thing at graphic sleeves are trash but w/e
>>
>>54860502
why would you buy ABUR duals for EDH in the first place? you dumbass, you can buy an entire deck with that amount

point is, you don't *need* expensive cards in EDH. it's a casual format, so the whole proxying thing seems just like a really sad since winning is so irrelevant to actually having fun
>>
>>54860615
What do you play? I'm kind of SoL since I spent my teen years collecting UR storm/burn, which is fucking garbage in EDH.
>>
>>54860636
Doesn't matter, reading the cards and understanding more about what makes up the game is how you become a better player, and presumably becoming a better player is going to increase your enjoyment of the game as well.
>>
>>54860683
>What do you play?
EDH
>>
>>54860502
The entire purpose of EDH is to up the pool of playable cards by imposing restrictions. 99 cards, singleton except for basic lands, color identity. Budget is just another restriction. Playing a Mana Crypt in every deck isn't feasible on a budget, so you look for alternatives. Once you start proxying you shrink your pool of cards back down.

Well, it kinda sucks for me though cause the friend that plays Polukranos has the mentality of "winning equals fun" and gets real salty when he starts losing and I know that I am gonna win most of the time after pointing out that he was playing his commander wrong.

It's a good thing the game ended on turn 3 because ABUR duals don't mean shit when the rest of your deck is ass.

You need to make sure your commander is the only creature on the board when you go for one hit commander damage on turn 4/5

i play not-goodstuff

when you stop playing goodstuff you'll find that most cards are below dollar or even below 50 cents

my rashmi deck is 50 euros because it's comprised of 36 goofy ass instants that literally no one else wants to play except me, like arachnogenesis and desertion

>>
>>54860681
I don't buy them just for EDH you knob, but if I own them, and they're legal in the format, why the hell shouldn't I play them in every deck I can? And if I don't want to buy an extra copy for every single deck I own because swapping the one copy I have from deck to deck is tedious and wastes my playgroup's time, why shouldn't I proxy them in this casual, unsanctioned format?

Your real problem is with the power level of these cards and the decks that have them, not proxying itself. Make a custom banlist if you don't like the cards, and quit making excuses that hold no ground like "gay deckbuilding." People are allowed to build the decks they want regardless of your approval. The only restrictions that hold any sort of ground are the official rules and banlist. Anything else is you being a pretentious neckbeard. Quit shitting up this thread with your high and mighty attitude.

100.2. To play, each player needs his or her own deck of traditional Magic cards, small items to represent any tokens and counters, and some way to clearly track life totals.
>>
>>54860721
Seems like overkill. You're usually the biggest threat on board and with proper evasion you can just end the game for an opponent in one or two swings, don't really need to worry about what hes got
>>
>>54861047
Just because I don't need to doesn't mean I can't or shouldn't. Hell, you don't ***need*** any sort of dual lands. Why not just play with all basics and draft chaff? Why play this game that you don't ***need*** to play at all?

Again, what you're really saying is "your deck shouldn't be worth more than $50 because I said so."

>>54861086
So I should take ten minutes moving real cards from multiple decks to another just so one neckbeard at the table can be happy that I'm using real cards and not proxies for said real cards that I already own in a casual format where none of it fucking matters? At that point, I'd probably do it just so the rest of the table would kick him out for forcing me to waste everyone's precious downtime.
>>
>>54861199
And you're saying " I don't have to follow the rules of the game because I said so."
