Thicc edges for thicc bois
>>
>>57421674
The edge highlighting could use some touching up in places, and the base just sort of... blends into the model, but overall it looks pretty darn good.
>>
>>57421697
I know that feel anon, I really like the look of Chaos but with a semi-coherent army structure like the Sons of Sek but it just looks really lazy if I don't really Chaosify Imperial vehicles
>>
>>57421706
Yeah, I keep looking at the base and thinking it needs something to break it up. Too much space to be so bland
>>
>>57421746
Something as simple as a little flock and some tufts or a little snow would be nice. I usually like to avoid doing my bases in a color that's close to one on the model. Personally I would've done a sandy or wintery base for a model as dark as that, but then again, it is your model, so whatever you like the look of!

Big metal birb is 99% finished. The rest of the stuff('ardcoat the window, and a couple of red gems on the gold bumps with red gemstone paint) goes on after the dullcote which I actually ran out of, so I have to make a run to the hobby store.

Add some color to that base.

It's too similar to the model on top of it, and they sort of bleed together. If you add some grass, snow, sand, or basically anything that isn't grey/black, then it'll look way better for basically no extra effort.

Primaris to MKIV armour to be used as a taller than normal (as is quite common with the AL) Alpha Legion Praetor.

I've posted earlier WIPs of this before ages ago. I work really slow, I blame Total War Warhammer for consuming my life the past month.
Anyway, last time I had tried to use plasticard for the kneepads which looked horrible. I've sculpted them now at they look better. I'm not a great sculptor so they could be better but it's as good as I can do.

Some of the greenstuff is a bit rough so I'll do a little filing and sanding to smooth it all over.

I try not to exclude models where somebody deliberately took the work to make it look the part; the only pictures I've removed are the illustrations, which I've just been shoving in to fill gaps when the model photographs are unusual sizes or shapes.

I *swear* somebody was working on a Tau Fire Warrior Johnny, but if that was ever coming around, I must not have saved it.

Good to see Louise is on board, too. Now, if only Duncan would grace us as well...

2/2 these are the colours involved. I glazed the fuck out of the black / white one until the sharp differences started to go away. Shadows are caliban green / dark sea blue, base tone is military green, highlights are military green / moot green / green sky in various mixes. The next step, I think, is some addition of Green Grey to that for more "high" highlights.

Hey, /WIP/

Color choice question:

IDK, I'm not sold on it, kind of wanted the skull in the belly to be different from the skull on the head, and my overall plan was to call it the Golden Daemon (the Ork piloting the cannon has a brush bosspole) and I feel like a red face would interfere with that more than a skull face. But I will consider it.

How's my DP coming along, lads? How's the skin? It's partly a test for Magnus in the near future.

It's Mechrite Red, Druchii Violet/Nuln Oil wash, layer Wazdakka and then layer 50/50 VGC Bloody Red/Wazdakka. Might do a final straight VGC Bloody Red highlight and then very tiny Wild Rider Red edge highlight. Or 50/50 Bloody Red/Blazing Orange. What do you guys think?

Because with just about any of your typical household items you can make one yourself, even better. A lunch box will do the same job as this box as long as it has a airtight lid. The sponge, a thick dishcloth will do just the same, and give you a lifetime of re-fills for just about no money at all. And any fool will have roll of cheap Parchment paper lying in a kitchen cupboard somewhere.

To go out and actually pay for something, you are falling in to the trap of buying expensive money for shit most people already have at home. The same applies to buying any "official" tools from GW or such, when you will get a superior quality tool for cheaper money at just about any hardware store, its idiotic to say the least.

So Papa has a bigger brother turns out. Going to have to have a think about how to increase his size now that he's clearly too small. I'm thinking a Kugath style palanquin with many Nurglings and chemistry paraphernalia.

As for the big guy, awesome kit. The different hands/weapons look magnetisable so I might have a go at that. Wasn't quite happy with either of the GUO faces so using the bottom jaw of the smiley one with Rotigus's face for some pure joy. vallejo primer isnt ideal for texture paint as it is vinyl and will flex and stretch quite a bit if something is properly adhered to it . Works fine for regular paints but need something sandable for that stuff

But as I own some warlord celts I also know that you plan on converting minis that are basically half naked. So you have to resculpts half of them.
Kitbashing that is much easier. And for arms and legs you basically have to sculpt from scratch over a wire armature or carve the plastic so artfully that you are better off kitbashing it.

I also remember at least one outfit that did undead roman legionnaires. I.e. the skeleton version. Minis weren't super great, but they are out there. Was a smaller company like Eureka or Black Tree or something like that. Can't remember anymore.
Foundry does have some greek flavored skeleton warriors too.

Ye thin it out on a pallet tho, it's hard to control how much medium your putting in the bottle other wise, if you're brave you could take an eyedropper and slowly add lahmian to it and shaking until you reach a normal consistency, that and putting a metal bb or ball bearing in the pot before shaking will help break up any larger chunks

Acquire dead plants from your local florist. Collecting your own from outside is fine providing you take the right steps to prevent mold, insects, fungus or even living plants from invading your bases. I rinse mine off under the tap to rid them of dirt, and then bake them for 15mins on the lowest setting on your over to kill any grossness that might be lurking in your basing materials. Baking them also renders them super dry and makes them soak up PVA like crazy when applied with a mister

So I got an airbrush, a cheap one, in preparation for being more industrious in my priming and basecoating. And for the bigger pieces in my future. Anyway my first foray into priming was a disaster. I think. Unlike any video I've ever seen, all the models looked slick and glossy with wet primer that pools slightly, rather than the almost powder coat-esque thin, totally covering layer. I'm spraying at about 25psi, and keeping it what looks like fairly far away from the model. Is not using thinner on the primer a problem? Have I fucked my needle or something and getting an uneven spray?

Hey /wip, just wanted to get some thoughts on my still WIP Dancer. Her armor still needs a wash, and then a highlight. I;m also not sure how I want to do her cloth, as since it's such a large fairly flat surface I feel like a wash will make it look like shit.

I know about the nasty mold lines, I think I will try to remove some of the really unsightly ones.
>>
>>57436806
I like the model. How are guild ball minis to work on? I heard they've switched from metal/resin to crappy pvc type plastic
>>
>>57437257
Get all of the mold lines you gag. ideally before you paint the model.

The mold lines aren't great but they're not the worst I've ever seen. Her sickles are honestly pretty flimsy but I don't see them breaking. Honestly they're pretty far from the worst plastic I've done. The new guilds are designed for plastic and as such they hold their details pretty damn well which I was happy about. The eyes for example were very recessed so they held shape well.

Jackstraw here kept that nice checkered pattern on his lower half and I was able to pick out the belts on his upper torso.

The head the spine and the saddle?
>>
>>57437712
That's an ideal practice model. Let every coat dry completely before doing the next one. The direction you paint in is where the bulk of your glaze is going to be deposited. So when glazing shadows paint towards where you want it to be darker. For highlights make sure you're painting away from your shadows. GL

That and the end of the tail. The saddle is attached to its spine with a wad of greenstuff. Pretty much everything except the tail and the Troglodon harness would dry fit well enough that they don't even need magnets, but I don't know how well that would hold up after painting and some wear and tear

How much do I thin this, I'm doing 1:1 paint:water, but I end up doing multiple layers to the point that I may as well use it out of the pot
>>
>>57438701
let the layer fully dry before applying a second thin layer. Fight the instinct to just slather on more paint the first go-over to get the solid colour. I know it's especially hard on yellow.
>>
>>57438743
>Fight the instinct to just slather on more paint the first go-over to get the solid colour

That's it, then, shit. Thanks, anon.
>>
>>57438771
I still have the problem myself. As the paint dries, the colour will solidify a bit, but if you thin your paint then just apply layers all at once, like you said you might as well paint out of the pot since you're doing the same thing.

I love this Skink Chief, but an unpainted one on ebay is 50 fucking bucks and shipped from the other side of the planet. Why is this one mini so rare?

Any ideas or suggestions?

I know Dragonborn don't have tails but fuck that, my scaley folk have tails. And some official art even includes wings so they can fuck themselves.

make sure the paint is fully dry, give it about 20-30 minutes.

longer if it's a wash.

I hate short weeks as I want to get this school done fast so I can get back to work and make money, Id love it if I was paid for this.

You need to thin your paints more and use less layers to avoid that soft edges gummy look.

Also the backpack looks a little askew. Not a big deal, but it's the little things that start to matter when your paint skills improve.

Keep at anon. It doesn't take long to start noticing improvements.

stole the idea either from here or on facebook, but im doing a set of nurgle obj markers. also a travelling nurgling merchant just for fun.
>>
>>57440871
The thing I don't really get is why are you using dice?
You already are doing six bases so why not just put the numbers on them?

Or are there scenario rules where you place the marker hidden or something? I've been out of the loop gaming wise for a while.
Anyway you can never have enough nurglings I guess. Always fun to look at.
>>
>>57440966
im trying to do them quick and dirty and knock them out in less than a day, rather than making up really scenic bases. thats the only real reason. im going to also paint the dice in flesh tones with little pools of blood for the pips, to fit with the nurgle kind of living theme, so dice with veins and blood i reckon will look neat
>>
>>57441010
fair enough.
I'm raking my brain here, because there was a game that used a mechanic like that.
You had to get to the objective to see if it was worth a victory point or something. Maybe that was Kill Team or something like that though.

Anyway, I always get a kick out of custom markers for an army and things like that. Its the kind of details the hobby is all about.
>>
Hey guys, looking for a comparison pic between the new greater daemons some anon posted yesterday - anyone has it?
>>
>>57441037
40k had 6 objective markers, then at the start of the game they were randomly assigned values of how much they were worth per turn
>>
>>57441037
kromlech make some nice ork themed markers, as you can see in this poorly taken shot
>>
>>57438857
Why not use pic related? Don't you think skinks are too scrawny for dragonborns?
>>
>>57438857
if you want that specifiic mini I can't help you.
If you just want a skink like mini you got a whole range of minis to choose from.

Reaper also does a conversion set for dragon born, including tales. With that you can easily convert any other mini of their range or any other range into a dragonborn.
Hasslefree also sells dragon man heads in their conversion corner. Same idea.
And reaper obviously also has actual dragonborn minis since they produce minis under license for pathfinder etc.

Mantic also has a range of plastic lizardmen. Look a bit more butch than a skink, but the minis are also pretty cheap and easy to convert since they are plastic.
>>

Have I fucked my needle or something and getting an uneven spray?
>>
how does one do nice and smooth transitions?
im tired of doing the whole "paint one color then dump some wash over it then paint back over it but dont paint the recesses" shit
i want to make this flag look like a nice smooth clean white but its coming out like garbage

Trick to painting yellow. Use white primer (shake very well before applying.) Thin down your yellow and use multiple thin coats. Wash with Agrax lightly.

Your checkers are pretty good for a first timer, you will improve with practice.
