Fellow Soup-players, what are you 1000 pt lists looking like? I keep seeing lists for 2k games, but I never play anything that big, 1k-1.5k is most comfy

I'd actually be interested in playing Vanguards, but I have just had my Death love resparked a nice deal by the LoN book (as lacking in many aspects as it is) so I'm already too busy working on 6 different units of Hexwraith built on the concept of them being Arkhan's experiments on the different winds of magic to have the funds to start a new army

Hey, I'm not in a rush to start my Stormcast army now either. I got way too many zombies and ghouls to paint right now.

I might make a Stormcast army inns year or two.

I like the idea of a regenerating horde.

My army options are Tzeentch Daemons with a bunch of horrors and Flesh Eater Courts.

Which do I pick? Which is more competitive? Which one absolutely sucks?

So i figured i'd give AoS a go. Haven't touched the game at all, as a long time fantasyfag the transition hurt a bit, but with the new release of LoN I feel like dusting off my Skelepope and giving it a go on the tabletop.
I want to try running Nagash and a small force of Morghasts as bodyguards, but as I have no experience with the game I have no idea if it can work at all, let alone being viable. I got the pdf from the mega, but it's all a bit confusing for me atm. Any advice would be nice.

Bravery question - when getting attacked by abilities that do damage based on my bravery, do I use my base bravery score on my warscroll, or bravery +1 per ten models in my unit (like inthe battelschock phase)?

Generally speaking, killing things is pretty easy in AoS. Big centerpiece models like Nagash will go down quickly if the opponent gets the chance to focus on them, especially if they have a way of spitting out lots of Mortal Wounds. No-one in my area plays Death let alone Nagash so I can't really give you much advice beyond that, but you'll probably need a decent amount of chaff to pull attention away from Skellypope.

Directly from your warscrolls, as the attacks usually don't occur in the battleshock phase.

>>57959690
Grots get bravery 2 against flesheater ranged attacks, its just awful. Even the general has 6 at best (4 debuffed). Against the new tome it'll be just as bad. What do?

Not that anon, but if Nagash is your general in a GHoN army, the Morghasts count as battleline

Just that you take a whole mess of factions, mash them together, and force players to make a list that involves multiple different factions in the form of soup. You aren't allowed to just eat your carrots or just eat your beef, instead you have to eat a big bowl of carrots and potatoes and celery -- which you hate -- and beef.

It creeps in various ways, like requiring the Soulblight players to pick up some skeletons or dire wolves to satisfy their Battleline requirements since they lost Varghulfs and Blood Knights are expensive as fuck for three units of. Or incentivizing those Deathrattle players to pick up some Morghasts since they get a buff in the BoneZone. Or telling Nighthaunt players to choke on GW's cock and buy some battleline since they currently have none.

>>

>>
>>57960109
Actually, axing the Tomb King line makes it a bit worse. At least back then you had the choice between two types of Undead soup, now it's just all in one pot.

Likewise, a lot of the people that picked up Death in the run of AoS had a desire to see their factions get turned into factions of their own right. And GW supporting several of these with fluff and mechanics in the GA and GHB books seemed to indicate they might. Yet now, those players are basically being told to shut up and buy new shit. We have a Nighthaunt player at our store that's just not even buying LoN since it actually hinders his army to run it. He doesn't want to play Death Soup. He wants to play A Bunch of Asshole Ghosts.

For me, even though is hard to tell, is Ulgu, the grey wind of shadow magic

I would have a pretty good time being a grey mage.
>>
>>57960292
Since the army profile at the end of the book says you can still play a mono-Nighthaunt army, shouldn't he just gain the extra mortal wounds rule for the Hexwraith?
>>
>>57960352
Why isn't it? Since the box is still being sold with the battalion inside it, what would make it illegal?

We have to make what we can with the things GW give us in their shitty way. Is a fact that LoN improves death and allows the whole GA to be better like a VC 2.0 but is a fact too that factions are in this moment an inferior choice until they have more options and can be properly fleshed out (some day)

I dont see LoN as a bad book i like the options in it and more shit for every faction specifically is a matter of time (long time sadly)
>>
>>57958447
No they are an awful adaption of a good idea, and will forever be a shit stain on an otherwise interesting enjoyable setting. Unless they ramp down the mary sueness, stupid writing, and release an entirely different looking range for them at some new edition point in the far future.

How well do Wanderers work at 1000 and 1500 points? They seem like they'd be solid enough at 2000, but it just seems like the cost of Glade Guard ends up fucking them up at low point values. Drafted one up, but it just feels incredibly uncomfortable to only have 28 bodies on the table as something as Fragile as Wanderers. You're basically just relying entirely on your ability to effectively wipe something with the alpha strike from the Glade Guard, machine gun shit down with your Waywatchers, and hope your Eternal Guard can hold solid with Sister support.

Allegiance: Wanderers
Nomad Prince (80)
- General
- Trait: Myst Walker
Waywatcher (100)

Waywatcher (100)
Waywatcher (100)

Just need to finish horns and teeth... Well, and basing.

I love the Warherd, but surely there's a need for another non-Bullgor non-behemoth unit (as if that will happen...). I also think that not having a native wizard shits on the posibility of using Thunderscorn allies.

If I had my way, there would be a kit that either builds a pair of bullgors with oversized throwing spears (1A 4+/3+ 2D @9"?), a pair of armored bullgors with no weapons but their horns and the Ghorgon's Ravenous Bloodgreed, or an armored Doombull and some sort of wizard-cow. The Cowizard should regain a wound every turn in which a nearby unit generates an extra attack using Bloodgreed or Ravenous Bloodgreed. It should be per turn not per instance, because that means you could give the wizard a spell which interracts with Bloodgreed without making it crazy overpowered- something like "pick a nearby unit of Bullgors that have the Bloodgreed or Ravenous Bloodgreed abilities. Until your next Hero Phase, subtract 1 from the wound roll required by Bloodgreed or Ravenous Bloodgreed to generate an extra attack."

Fair enough, but only having 20 archers and 20 shieldbearers just feel awkward as hell. And while teleporting can help to deal with that, they can still just get shot to death.

Would it actually be worthwhile to instead use a Waywatcher as my general to help give the rest of the armor Invisible? Likewise, try using Stalker of Unseen Paths in order to give those Guard Glade the ability to really take advantage of being whereever instead of just along a singular board edge?

Likewise, I have a question about Realm Wanderers. It says the unit has to be within 6" of a table edge, but it has to then redeploy wholly within 6" of the table edge. Since it doesn't specify wholly in the first section, does that mean I just need a single model within 6" in order for the rest to redeploy? Likewise, if I have Stalker of Unseen Paths, do I just need a single model to be within 6" of the general?
>>
Question about wolf raider rules. It says they either have slittas and wolf bows or Pokin spears. Does that mean if the model has only a slitta, that it can also use a bow? Also what about raiding shields? Can I have a gobbo with a slitta, shield AND bow?
>>
>>57963468
Also, fuck me. Wanderers have so many interesting Command Traits, far more than the interesting artifacts. Shit like Masterful Hunter and Eagle-Eyed sounds amazing on a Waywatcher, but it seems like especially at higher points, you're almost obligated to make it a Nomad Prince with Myst Walker if you're using the battalion. But a Waywatcher with a 32" bow? A wayfinder making 3d6 attacks that hit on 2+, rerolling 1's? That just sounds hilarious.

>>57963509
Correct. Either slittas+bows+shield, or spears+shield. There's no reason ever not to take a shield because it is purely a free bonus.

Shit like this is a grand example of some of my issues with AoS point value.

Sounds good. The first line of Stormcast releases are really plain compared to the Vanguard guys, but with a few extras to spruce them up I think they'll look great.

Good stuff anon. Bareheaded Stormcast look pretty good, it keeps them from being uniform grumpy metal men.
In my head, I picture Stormcast as being almost like the AoS equivalent of Deathwatch from 40k. Since each one is "recruited" from a mortal hero, it makes sense that each one would be very individual. Play around with different weapons, shields, heads, and gubbinz and such and you'll have that look easy. Good luck!

Working on anything tonight /aosg/?
For my part I'm figuring out how much of an Arkanaut Ironclad I can chop off to make room for more cobbled-together crap. Dwarves are getting too comfortable at altitude, so I'm bringing Skaven to them.

I feel like it was dumb to not atleast see if brett\tomb kings could have atleast fared better with the release of aos than they did in wfb in terms of sales.

Especially since totalwar warhammer.

I didnt have much interest in playing fantasy and only got interested abit after aos. I would have bought brettonians if they had been a choice.

Would this work or would it just eat shit? Would it be more efficient to take a regular Sorcerer Lord and the Ghorgon as an ally?

What sounds cooler as an idea

>Hordes of iridescent painted metallic Pink, blue and brimstone horrors from the Realm of metal, shimmering in every color (tzeentch Daemons only themed army from the Realm of metal, all painted with colorshift metallics)

Or

>Dark skinned flesh eating ghouls from the Realm of Shadow who ingest and impale themselves with 'magical' crystals that make their flesh and blood glow (dark grey skin, glow in the dark highlights and details, model bone detailing as crystal shards instead?)
>>
>>57964575
I like the ghoul idea a lot more. Tzeentch daemons feel like a trap to me. Like they'd be fun to paint, but somehow they're hard to like after a while. I can't explain it though, so take it worth a grain of salt.

>>

You do, but I also just noticed I can summon a Dragon Ogor Shaggoth and give my other wizards the Summon Lightning spell.
Reason I was considering summoning Ghorgon instead of just putting it on the board as an ally is the points limit for allies and I didn't want it to eat cannon fire and die before it got a chance to charge.

>>
>>57964855
This is true but honestly my luck with rolls is bullshit. I won't get it off every battle but it'd happen more often than not.
It probably would be better to just put the Ghorgon on the field though. I can't take Thunderscorn with my main army though and don't have enough Beastmen to make a proper Brayherd or Warherd army to ally him, so summoning him could be fun and my other wizards could then heal him, but as you said getting 9+ on 2d6 isn't likely, even with how lucky I tend to be relying on luck to put something that expensive down probably isn't worth too much.
It is a difficult decision.

Yeah, especially since it gives them an opportunity to expand on the various themes that went into the old WHFB armies. Stuff like Forest Spirits or Witch Elves always have to play a supporting role to the core of the army, but the Sylvaneth release proved they can really shine when split off and expanded.
>>
>>57964920
DoK insomuch as they get a handful of new models and a Battletome.

Stormcucks get another chamber.

Slaanesh gets the end of the year, though it'll probably be more focused on 40K than AoS, while they get brand new Noise Marines and a bunch of support for the Emperor's Children while we get Punished Sigvald: A Man Denied His Mirror.

Brets are just medieval knights with a splash of welsh and french folklore.

Honestly, I think my favorite thing about Sigvald was when he launched a crusade against Ulthuan solely to scalp every elf on the island because of the fact that elves were more renowned for fair hair than he was. Which of course led to the rest of the Chaos Warriors finally wondering why the fuck they were all dying to invisible elves and not being content with the answer, "They have pretty hair so I must scalp them." Which in turn led to him continually having to duel more and more of his underlings when they challenged him.

When the elves finally did mount a full attack on the hungry and depleted Chaos forces, Sigvald was in the middle of yet another honor duel and wouldn't even fight the elves or lead what remained of his forces, instead several hours later his army was crushed, he had won his duel and then Sigvald simply wandered off in the final stages of the battle, hacking down any who tried to stop him. The blood of the man he dueled reminded the prince of a particularly rancorous bottle of Bretonnian wine he had once sampled, and he was suddenly minded to wreak vengeance on its creators.
>>
>>57965108
>while we get Punished Sigvald: A Man Denied His Mirror.

I don't know. I'd figure at least a few plastic Daemon heroes (plus Keeper of Secrets), and some kind of Slaanesh mortal infantry, to put them in line with the other three gods in AoS.
>>
>>57965344
I hope that when Slaanesh gets an update, we get new Slaanesh warriors, a new KoS, and a new Sigvald.
>>
>>57965369
No offense but I don't like the white beastmen. At least at this distance.
>>
>>57965369
Honestly I don't have any beastmen yet, but I'm planning on getting some as allies for my Slaaneshi Warriors/Daemons for a Bacchus style cult revelry theme, was gonna give the Shaman a Thyrsus as his staff.
So I was asking what would work, but I'll probably just go Shaman, Bestigors, and a Shaggoth to summon per your advice.
>>
>>57965344
>It's hard to model them for that though.

Is it really? I mean, yeah, it's super easy to just make a bunch of bikini chicks and call it a day, but giving every model a bottle of wine or hand fan or fawning follower or something of the like.
>>
>>57965309
>>57965344

The problem is sex is the only part of Slaanesh's domain that is easily portraid visually.

Daemonettes aren't just sexy looking mantis succubi, they are sexy looking mantis succubi that smell so strongly that you get high off the fumes while your eardrums are rupturing from the screams and calls they are making and all you want is more while your intestines spill out as it licks your neck gently.
>>
>>57965483
Yeah that is hard, doable but hard.
>>57965486
Exactly, I like to try for a Hellraiser aesthetic.
>>
>>57965425
Oh, you're certain to get a new KoS and some new Daemon Heroes. I was simply referring to exclusively AoS releases. I also wouldn't bet on Slaaneshi mortal infantry, either. The only reason Maggotkin have them is because Bightkangz were already out. We might get them, but I wouldn't say its a guarantee.

>>57965470
>Bacchus cult
>not satyrs
Nigga, you ain't running ungors, you're a dumb shitter.
>>
Should I start a Slannesh army now or wait for the update?
>>
>>57965539
>The only reason Maggotkin have them is because Bightkangz were already out.

Well, I say it because Nurgle's got Blightkings, Tzeentch has Kairic Acolytes, and Khorne has... quite a lot.
It'd just make sense for Slaanesh to get an equivalent to that.
>>
>>57965556
Starting a Slaanesh army now means either going Daemon heavy, or Slaves to Darkness heavy, so either way, what you build now is likely not to get replaced on the new release (because there's nothing to be replaced)

But what you have will not be the new hotness of whatever they do release is, so you may end up having auxiliaries to what GW is pushing as the marquee Slaanesh stuff.
>>
>>57965539
Bestigors look like armored Satyrs to me, I considered Ungor Raiders though but I prefer melee, I guess I could get both down the line and expand it.
Starting with Ungor Raiders would be cheaper I suppose.
>>
>>57965556
If a Slaanesh update happens it is exceedingly unlikely that Daemonettes, Seekers, or the Chariots will get new models.

Alternatively, Slaanesh Mortals is really good. Combining command abilities together can be insane. The Chaos Lord of Slaanesh, Lord of Chaos, and the Chaos Lord of Slaanesh on Daemonic Mount combined together effectively turn a unit of Marauders into Daemonettes that pile in and attack twice.
>>
Played a small game with new death today and it was awesome. Lord of nagashizzar and Wight king command ability plus Vanhels on a 10 man unit of grave guard reked house. 82 attacks hitting and wounding on 3s with minus 1 rend. They ate gorgruntas for dinner and revived the 4 dead in the next turn with ease

Actually finished the game with every model on the field!

I'm not purchasing yet just trying to get ideas, I'm waiting to see if Brayherds get a Warband in Underworlds soon, if not I'll still start them, just saving up my money until I know.
So far I know; Shaman (because Thyrsus and I need more wizards in general), Bestigors as my mainline heavy hitters, Ungor Raiders for some missile weapons, Ghorgon and Shaggoth for big monster allies. But these ideas are very subject to change.

Glottkin was alright except the OP super plagues that made any imperial defense pointless

Khaine was utter shite

Parts of thanquol salvageable, particularly the Lizardmen scenes

Archaon was complete and utter shit. I'm going to agree with most of this. End Times had mad promise for the first couple books, with "Hey, Nagash is Back, and all the undead work for him now!" and "Nurgle is Back, and he's got stompy new fatsos working for him!"

But then it started to fall apart when they basically ruined all the Elf lore, and then just kind of shat out an ending because they had basically caught WHFB Senioritis.

What’s the quickest game you’ve ever played?
For me it was only recently where I won on my 2nd turn

>Playing a 1000p game with my Maggotkin against my friends Legion of Nagash
>We roll mission and get the “Duality of Death” mission
>To score points you need either a hero or Behemoth at one of the 2 objectives
>My friend only brought 1 Wight King since he brought a 110p battalion in a 1000p game
>I could easily hold both objectives with 2 of my heroes
>He charges his horde (and wight king) into my army
>I hold my ground and focus all of my attacks against his Wight King
>The wight King is killed in my hero phase due to Rampant Disease afternoon my Poxbringer brought him down to 2 wounds during the previous turn
>He is killed and my friend concedes
>We laugh it off and he says that maybe using a battalion on 1000p is a bad idea

For the sake of conversion, would you be okay with an opponent having a model placed on a larger base than the model it is replicating? Particularly going from a 35x60 oval to a 45x75.

>>

I don't really care. They look fine at a distance.
>>
>>57967994
I wouldn't have a problem, since in the rules is specified that bases don't count as part of the model and any mesuremen is done by the model.
I mesure from base to base, just like any sane person would do, but if somebody took a model with larger different base than the original i would mesure from the model
>>
>>57968134
Thanks, senpai. I'd forgotten that RAW, the game is meant to be measured from the model. I reckon that sort of accidentally forces in a bit of acceptance even if everyone with a brain measures from base-to-base. Bigger base, just take that into account by measuring from the model.
>>
>>57967994
I don't care one way or another, as long as it's not some thing like a single state trooper on a cavalry base or some dumb shit like that.
>>
>>57968153
Nah, just cavalry that's a bit too unwieldy for the original base. Just bumping it up one size in order to fit it.
>>
>>57968164
That's fine with me, sometimes certain units have issues with their bases, it's rare but it can happen.

Haven't yet, but I'm still in the theory-crafting process of Kroot Wanderers. It'll be Knarloc Riders as Elf Cavalry, whether Reavers or Sisters of the Thorn. Krootox are a fine size for it as well, but I was sort of hoping to be able to have two separate cavalry models for easy distinction. Maybe the Krootox as Sisters, while the Knarlocs serve as Reavers since they certainly have a loot of more speed.

I'll probably end up using Drycha as the Great Knarloc with Bolt Thrower, since the centipedes work pretty nicely as a spray of explosive bolts and the spell may as well just be a magical scream from the brute. Though due to the point cost and allies restrictions, I'll probably been to touch up exactly what is what to give a good varied look. As of right now, there's actually a pretty solid range to draw from, and the conversions'll be fun enough.

Kroot Carnivores as Glade Guard, with some Gor/Ungor spears, shields, musicians, and banners to turn them into Eternal Guard as well as the full command for the GG. All of the Wanderer heroes are easily converted out of Shapers and kitbashes -- shit like a loaned hawk that gets quills as a kroothawk, a necromancer's crooked staff for use on a Spellweaver. I will probably use Kroot Hounds as a possibility of Gryph Hounds, though it's unlikely I'll ever really run 'em. If the meta allows me to use the gouged and gutted Wood Elves compendium, though, I could use 'em as Hunting Hounds. Krootox work nicely as cavalry, likely as either Sisters while Knarloc Riders serve as Reavers. Vulture Kroot as either Prosecutors or a Knight-Azyros.

...actually, now that I think about it, they'd almost certainly fit on a 35x60 oval if it was placed as a wide oval rather than a long oval. As an opponent, would you rather a sideways base or one-step up?

Did you read the final book? He cucked the Chaos Gods and killed Kholek
>>
>>57968543
This.

He actually saves Nagash from daemons because only he should get the pleasure of killing the False God. And then basically tells him, "Just stay there for a bit, I've got four Chaos Gods to murder," and leaves on a gore-soaked path as he single-handled slaughters his way through the apocalyptic armies of Chaos to go find and butcher the Chaos Gods for having the gall to assume that he would serve them. Hell, he's never actually KIA and for a while at the start of AoS, he was one of the primary contenders that people were guessing for the identity of the Celestant-Prime.

>trying again at bad Stormcast Eternals background, attempt 2.5:

The Scarlet Keep was a true fortress. It stood proud atop a coastal cliff face. It gazed out upon the sea and basked in the radiant warmth of the sun. It was impenetrable. Even if intruders got inside it would do them no good. Barricades, locks, and trials to confound even the cleverest of thieves waited inside. We built these defenses to protect and artifact of great value entrusted to us. Our charge would be safe. We were the kings of this keep. Of course, "were" is an important phrase here. We are now kings without a keep, and how ridiculous is that?

Oh don't give me that look. We didn't misplace the castle you know. Daemons took if from us. A heist in a manner we never expected. No daemon could have set foot within the keep, so they took the whole building instead. We went after it course with our winged prosecutors and on foot. As soon as it was free the foul magics whisked it away to who-knows-where. We had brothers and sisters still inside. We do not know whatever came of them. Sigmar has yet to reclaim their souls, so either they are safe, or a fate worse than death has come over them. Now we quest across the realms to find it again. We hunt chaos lord or his band of hooligans, "The Thrice Damned Eye." We hunt the minions of Tzeentch who aided these barbarians. Sometimes we hunt these leads and find nothing. Sometimes we find we are too late. Regardless, the Keep and the artifact within was our charge. We will have it back.

But what of yourself? Have you seen a stone keep by chance? Or how about a twisted daemon? No? Well, you can't blame me for asking can you?

-- Gallagher Hurley, of The Sunrise Hammer, warrior chamber of The Scarlet Kings

>tl;dr tzeentch stole their castle and they are going to go all over the mortal realms and fight stuff until they get it back

Y'know, I can dig this. And it actually works pretty well. Kroot always had that Native American vibe to 'em which certainly can do wonders for an army of outflanking skirmishers. Toss on the fact that most of your ranged attacks are resolved with Rend, either by default in terms of Waywatchers and Sisters of the Thorn or Glade Guard popping Arcane Bodkins.

Kinda a pity that you'll end up with your kroot being so weedy, but I can't really think of any army that manages to have tough + maneuverable gunlines. Thankfully, I suppose. You almost could use 'em as Skyre with Knarlocs as Stormfiends but then you don't have any solid infantry-sized gunlines and still have to grab a shitton of something to count as clanrats. You almost could use 'em as Bonesplitterz and focus on Kunnin' Rukk, but then you don't really have anything to use the Krootox or Knarlocs or anything else for.
>>
>>57968693
There is always Freeguild, albiet it seems like Freeguild always ends up collecting all the scraps of conversion armies that don't fit anywhere else.

Fucktons of missile troops, Krootox as Outriders, Knarlocs as Demigryphs, and Shaper Generals. Could even convert up a Greater Knarloc as a Hurricanum/Luminark. Heck, if you go with some of the Free City allegiances then you could even go Anvilguard for Kharibdyss, or go Living City for that outflank and access to Drycha for your Greater Knarloc as previously mentioned.
