Ridley
Huge Aberration (dragonblood, psionic)
Space/Reach: 15ft/15ft (30ft with tail)
Special Attacks: Breath Weapon, Collective, Deadly Tail, Feed, Improved Grab, Psi-like Abilities, Spirit of Many
Special Qualities: Dragon Traits, Regeneration

Deadly Tail (Ex): Ridley's tail attack has a critical threat range of 19-20/x4.

Psi-like Abilities (Ps): Coordinate as One, Fear Cascade, Improved Response, Strike as One, Unearthly Terror

Spirit of Many (Su): Ridley can manifest powers with the Network descriptor on any member of its collective, even if they are out of the power’s range or would normally be immune to the power. Whenever Ridley manifests a power with the Network descriptor targeting only members of his collective, the power loses the mind-affecting descriptor (if it had it) and is treated as a supernatural ability (bypassing Power Resistance and becoming immune to dispel attempts), although it still provokes an attacks of opportunity to manifest as normal. Network powers manifest only on members of the collective never allow saving throws – their saving throw entry becomes “None,” although if the power specifies a subsequent saving throw, subjects attempt those saves normally. Ridley also adds the following augment to all powers with the network descriptor:
- Augment: For every additional power point you spent, you can choose an additional target, so long as the target is a member of your collective.

>>60288360
Fire Emblem is a cancer on the corn on my foot. Also, Ridley is so goddamn small in the trailer. Like, give me a massive 4x Samus size Ridley if you're gonna give me one at all. I predict he'll play very similar to Charizard - probably have WiiU Charizards moveset (or very similar) since Charizard is getting merged back into Pokemon Trainer.
>>
>>60288611
He has chargeup fireballs, grab-you-and-drag-you-across-the-floor, a tail stab that does massive damage at the correct distance, and a wonky controllable dash for the up-b
>>

He has basically nothing in common with Charizard, they demoed his moveset and if anything he has more in common with Ganon. His tail stab does fifty fucking damage if you land it dead center.
>>
>>60288660
Sixty dead center, it does damage on exit also.
The damage is increased in 1v1 however, so it's actual damage is probably around 38-45 dead center.

For Smash, you really want iconic, distinctive characters from well-known, classic series. Castlevania definitely qualifies on both counts, and Simon Belmont is the obvious choice for a Castlevania character.

Contra is a classic series, but its characters aren’t particularly recognizable, and it wouldn’t adapt to the Smash format very well.

Ryu Hayabusa is a more recognizable character, for sure, but I’m not sold on the idea that the Ninja Gaiden series is on the same level as Contra, Mega Man, or Castlevania.

And Burger Time? Come on.

“Off the top of your head” is what you want, for Smash; if you have to think for a while to remember the character, they probably don’t make the cut.

Mario's hat actually is Cappy because you can see the hat as such when doing certain moves as Mario.

>>60285558
I know the joke is that Ridley = Nicol Bolas, but I don't really think there's a blue bone in Ridley's body.
Yes, he's intelligent, nihilistic, and has a wicked sense of humour, but even discounting the hardware limitations of the earlier games it never really feels like he displays any of the characteristics of something that has blue in it.
He strikes me more as someone who obeys the orders of his superiors - High Command in Prime 1, Dark Samus in Prime 3, Mother Brain in the Zero Mission manga - solely because them being in charge means that he gets to kill as much as possible; and if they weren't in charge, then he'd find someone to put in charge who would let him continue killing as much as possible.

At least to me, Ridley is more RB than Rakdos himself.
>>
>>60285570
Her amount by which her power suit exaggerates her waist is ludicrous.
>>
>>60292862
While that is true, Ridley also degrades over time.
The more fucked up he gets, the less brutally kunnin' he gets. Plus, he at least had enough blue in him to come back as a cyborg.
>>
>>60293022
Neither of Ridley's mechanical iterations struck me as being very blue. The Prime 1 Meta Ridley was a barely-held-together skeleton of metal like some horrifying etherium-ized zombie, something reminiscent of Glassdust Hulk but formerly alive; while everything about the Pirates in Prime 3, Ridley included, was up to their eyeballs in Phazon like it was Glistening Oil and Dark Samus was Gix.

In other words, Meta Ridley's cyborg-ness shouldn't immediately qualify him for blue because there are two major artifact factions wherein black is a heavily influencing colour.
>>
>>60279492

+10 to giving Samus shameful, leg-quaking orgasms.
>>
>>60292862
Oh, I agree he's just RB. Even 'being intelligent' doesn't mean you're blue - you can be the smartest thing around and not be blue, blue seeks knowledge, not merely Being Smart.
I just didn't think Colossal Dreadmaw was appropriate this time around, and Bolas has that nifty creature-stealing ability and a bunch of fuck shit up things...
>>
>>60288611
>Also, Ridley is so goddamn small in the trailer. Like, give me a massive 4x Samus size Ridley if you're gonna give me one at all.
That's what Event Matches are for. I guarantee at least one of them will have Samus fighting a Giant Ridley. Maybe even two, with the second one using the Meta Ridley skin.
>>

Maximillian Dood had a crazy theory about Sub-Zero getting into Brawl. Which would have been hilarious, but completely impossible. >>
>>60296351
Who ISN'T a millenial at this point?
>>
>>60296428
me
>>
>>60296193
Because Ridley enjoys killing much, much more than you could ever understand. He enjoys killing so much that even though he's strong enough to be the leader of the Pirates, he usually lets others do the actual leading because being a leader takes away from the time he could spend killing. Using some cheap faggoty toy like a plasma cannon means that it's not *him* doing the killing but rather a tool that is nominally attached to his personage.
>>
>>60296578

To be fair, none of the nominal pirate leaders in Metroid ever come across as being all that bright in the games. I mean, isn't that Spore Plant supposed to be one of them since it's on the statue? I mean really?
The only one who really ever seems intelligent is Mother Brain.
>>
I am having trouble translating these hyroglyphs.
>>
>>60297944
If you're talking Super Metriod then no, Spore Spawn is not on the statue, it's probably just an example of Zebes ridiculously deadly indigenous wildlife.
>>
>>60296193
He tried that. It didn’t work. All his lasers and bomber implants in Prime didn’t kill Samus.
>>
>>60296193

Because a Plasma Cannon is a downgrade to what he is already packing naturally. Ridley is a goddamn space dragon. He can breath fire hot enough to hurt a Chozo Power Suit adapted to survive in Magma. The fact that the Chozo have tech that can kick his ass isn't really saying anything bad about him. Chozo were basically that one pacifist race from fucking lensmen, there was very little their tech could not do.

This did lead to them coming up with stupidly overcomplicated solutions for problems that would have been better served by just nuking the planet. Like the whole X Parasite - Metroid thing, but generally speaking these guys were a Stellaris Fallen Empire, but pacifist and still meddling in galactic politics.

Ridley's design has gone through a couple of changes I think. Metroid 1 era his design was all kinds of weird. He didn't really become the trollish space dragon we all know and love until Super.

I'm hoping we're going to be getting bright red box-art Ridley, purple ingame Ridley and blue Metroid 1 Ridley as alt colors.
>>
>>60297944
I would argue that Dark Samus was the most successful commander the Pirates have ever had, because she was the only one to actually have a vision to achieve her ends. She knew exactly what planets to seed with Leviathans so as to create the most ideal conditions for the war effort, she was smart enough to know that infecting the Aurora Units would cripple Federation infrastructure for an extended period of time AND was smart enough to access this weak point by attacking a poorly-equipped training vessel instead of a secure installation, and had it not been for Samus remaining conscious long enough to fire the cannon, the Norian seed would have impacted and that would have been the end of Samus and likely the entirety of the Federation's military command structure as well, considering its point of impact.
Dark Samus had a clear-cut plan with concrete goals and achievable means of reaching those goals, something that Mother Brain and High Command just can't seem to muster.

I may be slightly biased because Prime 3 was my favourite game of the trilogy and my second-favourite in the franchise after Super, and because the idea of Pirates completely under the thrall of Phazon tickles the same part of me that Phyrexians tickle.

>>60299177
His in-game sprite for Metroid 1 was about as close to his "dragon" incarnation as you could realistically get given the hardware limitations; it's really just the artwork that makes him look like a weird slimy thing.

Also Phazon Blue Meta Ridley a best Ridley.
>>
>>60298069
The Chozo are responsible for everything wrong with Metroid.
>make Mother Brain; holy FUCK did they not see that one backfiring on them
>make Metroids, a deadly predator species build to counteract a planet-locked parasite that wouldn't have been a threat to anything because without Metroids no one would have a reason to give SR388 a second glance
>maybe made Phazon; still not entirely sure what the Metroids being there means
>constantly meddling in the affairs of other planets and species, embroiling them in conflicts that often are the result of other fuckups the Chozo were previously responsible for

I for one am glad the Chozo are extinct. Good riddance to bad bird-people.

Our research teams have isolated the energy conduits that run from the invasive twin mandibles to the energy core in the creature's quadripartite nucleus, but the manner in which the Metroid actually extracts the life force from its prey remains an utter mystery. The victim does not lose blood or any other vital fluids, and yet the Metroid extracts energy; identifying this energy is our central problem. It takes no physical form, and yet without it, the victim dies. We will continue to research this matter, as the isolation of this life-giving essence could be the key to our ascendance.

How's the federation scientists? I've only played Super and a bit of Prime so I haven't seen a lot of them. Does everyone in the Metroid universe with science skills have vapor for brains? The Ceres station guys seemed decent enough.
>>
>>60300586
As much as one can joke about the sheer idiocy of creating Metroids to combat the X, one has to remember that the Metroids actually were the only things capable of stopping them. The X are nightmares.
>>
>>60300556
It's ambiguous, but some of the pictures imply that the Science Chozo accidentally created the X when they started powering their technology with the souls of the dead.
>>
>>60300968
Feddies are trying to copy Chozo tech by Prime 3, and doing a very poor job at it. They also tried to weaponize Phazon.
Later in Fusion they tried to weaponize Metroids.
The universe really does need Samus.

On the one hand, the Federation in the Prime games is mostly on the up-and-up. On the other hand, the Federation in Fusion and even more so in Other M is so laughably corrupt as to make the Soviet government look wholesome.

>>60301001
And to their credit, they did a better job of weaponising Phazon than the Pirates did, on account of their weapons tech not rotting from within the souls of the people that used it.
The Federation in Fusion and Other M is the worst mixture of evil and stupid, though.
>try to weaponise Metroids

You also forgot the part where they were the ones who uplifted the Space Pirates.

The Mother Brain thing isn't really THAT egregious, they had a centralised AI that looked after their homeworld as their numbers dwindled and they got old. Normally the Chozo don't fuck up in the actual science part, it's usually the "why the fuck would you think this is a good idea" part.
Mother Brain going full rampant and deciding to euthanise their species, and then take control of the Space Pirates, was fairly unexpected.
>>
>>60300335
>a planet-locked parasite that wouldn't have been a threat to anything because without Metroids no one would have a reason to give SR388 a second glance

Actually, this one's not true. After Samus wipes the Metroids on SR388 out, scientists go there just to study the remaining wildlife, which is what kicks off the X infestation in Fusion. If Metroids never existed that would have just ended with the space station being taken over and eventually probably X that can build ships, since there would be no Metroid-infused warrior to go in and fix shit.

>constantly meddling in the affairs of other planets and species, embroiling them in conflicts that often are the result of other fuckups the Chozo were previously responsible for

I believe they were responsible for the Luminoth settling on Aether, which would have worked out just fine if the Phazon meteor never went there.

>maybe made Phazon; still not entirely sure what the Metroids being there means

Pretty sure they didn't. Dark Samus had plenty of opportunity to just bring Metroids to Phaaze long before Samus got there.

I literally have a copypasta just for this occasion dating back to 2016.

>Anonymous Wed 07 Dec 2016 10:00:28

This is basically how the Chozo in Metroid work. In fact, that is how EVERY scientist in the metroid setting works. But with varying degrees of competence.

Lemme give an example:

Chozo

>Chozo 1: We've discovered a planet full of near impossible to kill mimic parasites that could doom the galaxy on SR388.
>Chozo 2: This is a problem. What should we do.
>Chozo 1: Let's create an equally near impossible to kill hyper-predator who feed off them and randomly populate the planet with them.
>Chozo 2: ...could we not just blow the planet up? We HAVE a planetary scale destruct charge right here in Tourain. We could literally just shove this thing onto a shuttle and fly it into the planet.
>Chozo 1: ITS TOO LATE I AM DOING A SCIENCE!!!1!!!!1!!!!
>Chozo 2: *sigh*
>Mother Brain: That's okay Chozo 2, I thought your idea to remove the one safeguard that's stopping me from eradicating your pathetic dwindling species was a good one.
>Chozo 2: Thanks Mother Bra...wait what?

Space Pirates
>SP1: Let's expose this metroid to radiation to make it breed!
>SP2: Oh, all it's done is make it grow big... and horrifying.
>SP1: ...Let's do this to Kraid next!
>SP2: But how will he get out of Zebes if we do that?
>SP1: We could build him some tubes!
>SP2: TUUUUUUUUUUUUBES
>SP1: TUUUUUUUUUUUUBES

Human Federation
>Scientist 1: Let's try to clone metroids and breed X parasistes at the same time!
>Scientist 2: They've already escaped and killed us all.
>[and scientist 1 and 2 were X]
>>
>>60301288

They could have done that even with the Metroids all over the planet, so I think it's basically a given that they wouldn't in an alternate universe with no Metroids.

Also one could argue that a planet with obvious, scary predators like Metroids all over it is obviously dangerous and works better to keep people away, compared to X which people might not even notice until they're infected.
>>
>>60301314
>What would have happened if they'd just blown SR388 up?

>I'm guessing X parasites in space/feeding off of whatever energy they used to blow up the planet?

Given how they resolved the issue in Fusion? Nope. Dead. The Metroids were literally the Chozo making things way way waaaay more complicated than they had to be.
As mentioned, they literally had a planetary scale self-destruct device right there underneath Mother Brain. I can only assume the whole pacificim thing was to blame.

Their interactions with the Luminoth were probably of a net positive for both parties, the fall of Tallon IV wasn't their fault, but on the whole Samus is unarguably the best thing the Chozo have ever done.

UNless you want to try and say something like "The Chozo first made contact with humans in ancient Egypt and that's why several of their gods have bird heads" or something; in which case I'd say that the pyramids and people who get paid to go on TV and say "I'm not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens" aren't really a net negative.

I've never really understood how her suit actually works. Is it an adaptive thing? Am I actually picking up upgrades, or are they just data programs? Is the Varia suit a real thing, or is it just a state the suit goes into when it has adapted enough to the local settings.
Does the Gravity Suit work on other planets?

Why does Samus always lose all of her upgrades between missions? Is it just a bitch to keep recharging the thing in that state, and massive overkill for anything that isn't Ridley or Kraid related? (And even in Kraids case, all you need is like, 8 super-missiles and the fight is over in seconds.)
...How does that arm-gun even fire missiles anyway. The energy types I get, but... how do missiles work?

I'm not even going to BEGIN to talk about the Morph ball and all of THAT things bullshit.
>>
>>60301632
>>
>>60301652
At some point, you have to give up and just go with Gameplay Conventions. Although Prime actually do make a point of showing Samus loose her upgrades when Ridley ambushes her at the beginning of the game.
>8 super-missiles
I think speedrunners make do with 5 actually. So only one pickup needed.
>>
>>60301652
>Is it an adaptive thing? Am I actually picking up upgrades, or are they just data programs?

It does all of the above. In Fusion, the Federation was making programs for missiles and shit for her to use. In the Prime games there are examples of her taking existing physical objects and integrating them.

Being able to incorporate other tech is the suit's specialty.
>>
>>60301467
According to the manga they also founded the Galactic Federation, but consider it a failure because of the number of racist warmongers that ended up coming to power. So now they pin all their hopes on Samus.

Also, the reason they were so scared of the X isn't because they were worried the GF couldn't contain them. They were worried that it *could*, and that the X's perfect shapeshifting abilities would fall into the wrong hands.

From what I've been able to work out, and keep in mind that this is all one fan's speculation, is that somewhere in an item pickup's physical presence is a hardcode of data that Samus's suit downloads, before turning that data into a physical object or state. You are downloading the Varia suit from code found in the Chozo relic, but once the suit has downloaded that data, the suit is physically modified to include the "Varia" code.
The beams mostly work by absorbing ambient particles in the atmosphere and manipulating them to achieve the desired result- The Nova Beam, for instance, will grab hydrogen particles, smash them together enough times until it can replicate the effects of a collapsing star, and then fire the resulting gamma burst.
For missiles, think of the arm cannon as a 3D printer- The amount of missile data she's collected will increase the amount of missiles that her "printer" knows how to create.
The Morph Ball is straight-up bird magic. Don't even try to think about it or you'll end up like the Pirates that thought they could replicate it.

And while I'm on the subject of Samus's upgrades, I want to talk about the Nova Beam. It's my single favourite item in Samus's arsenal, but there's just something about it from a narrative perspective that irks me the wrong way. Consider- The Pirates made it, and it's clearly powerful enough to one-shot all but their strongest warriors when used in conjunction with a piece of tech that they CLEARLY have access to, so why did they never think to weaponise it? If I'm right about the way it functions and it's firing an artificial gamma burst, they've created a weapon that could easily kill Samus. So what do they do with it? Do they equip it to their best guys and send them after Samus?
No.
They turn it into a mining tool.
What the fuck Pirates. I know you're dumb, but this, to me, is the pinnacle of their stupidity.

>>60301714

Sporespawn isn't on the statue. The super missiles in the mockball side-passage right when you first descend into Brinstar mean that only 100% speedrunners will fight him -- and nowadays usually not even them, ever since it was discovered that you can enter Sporespawn's area through the back door by running at the little hole in the wall, shooting a super missile into it, and then jumping and air-morphing to follow the missile so it hits the far block before it reaches the side of the screen and despawns.

A lot of it is mystery, but what is without doubt at this point is that there is definitely some sort of ultra-efficient two-way matter-to-energy conversion device at the core of the system.

Heck, the suit itself is either stored in an incorporeal energy state within the Zero Suit, or teleported onto her body from somewhere else (it's not really made clear which).

I always imagined that the morph ball worked by folding the suit (and possibly the body of the occupant) into higher-dimensional space, and that the rest of the suit worked on similar mechanics.

Remember, professional contortionists can easily tuck themselves into spaces way smaller than the size of Samus' morph ball -- the real question isn't "where does Samus' body go", it's "where does Samus' suit go."

Actually, that would be an interesting premise for a Metroid game. The galaxy is threatened by a force so great and so hostile that Samus and the Pirates are willing to call a temporary truce.
>>
>>60304342
I once had a dream about a game that had this very scenario.
It took place after Fusion. The Federation has rebuilt the Mother Brain clone they made in Other M, and through a combination of stupidity, corruption, and sheer bad luck have allowed her to become the leader of the Federation.
The Pirates desperately want to be ruled by her again, but she's completely thrown them under a space-bus because she wants to be on the winning team and has determined that the Federation have a better chance of enabling her victory than the Pirates do. So now the Pirates are mad and want doubly to take the Federation down, and have contracted the help of Sylux to help them out-SCIENCE Mother Brain and her goon squad.
Samus, naturally, isn't putting up with the Brain's shit and goes on the warpath, which eventually forces her to join forces with the Pirates.
It was very much a story-focused game, and fairly open-world. You'd get pointers from Adam or one of the higher-ranking Pirates about what was up and where you generally needed to go, and you got credits for completing missions that you could spend to purchase upgrades from various sources- Sylux, Science Team, the black market, etc...

It was fun, but it was such a completely radical departure from the typical Metroid formula that I don't know how well the fandom would receive it.

Other M has so many canon conflicts in it that it's pretty much impossible for it not to be a DMC style alt-universe game.

I've never really understood the hate for fusion. Sure it's a very different sort of game compared to the usual Metroid experience, but it's not a bad game, with some great set-pieces. Like SA-X, or the security droid. You can't really sequence break, the challenge in Fusion is low% deathless runs, as less than thirty minutes in a single hit does 50+ points of damage. By the end you've got Space Pirates that do three whole tanks worth of damage.
>>
>>60307728
>I've never really understood the hate for fusion.
People don't really like Fusion because it's so linear.
>>
>>60304490
We recently had a discussion in the FLGS about possible metroid games and one idea was a game that was essentially Full-Spectrum Warrior, except with pirates. It was neat.
>>
>>60307754

Granted. It's not a classical Metroid game exploration game that Nintendo do so well (see also Zelda).
It's NOT a numbered Metroid game for that reasons (and also because Nintendo stopped numbering pretty much all of their games once the SNES came around) it's more a spin-off, like say, the Light-Gun games for Resident Evil.
Or Megaman the Power Fighters. Or Paper Mario compared to the main Mario platformers.

TLDR, Fusion is a good game, but it's not a exploration game, which is what Zero Mission is there for.

3. It solidified pinup Samus.
4. It took away the iconic look of the Power Suit, replacing it with the less-cool-looking unnamed suit you get with the Ice Beam (pic related is the Prime model of the same).

To add insult to injury, it did all these things while the Prime series was adding cool lore (>>60300939) and repeatedly nailing the best attributes of the series despite the handicap of jumping from 2D side-scroller to 3D FPS. One of the things I liked best from AM2R was the sense of depth and claustrophobia it gave as you pushed on. You genuined did feel like you were forging ahead into the bowels of the planet.

Initially this made backtracking overly difficult, but if you can find the last version released, they fix this by adding a series of TUUUUUUBES near the end that you can use to backtrack to different areas. Which is welcome.

They also even showed us what happened to that initial federation team that was sent in to investigate which was great, and exploring their ship is entirely optional, but does give you a boss-fight that hints at the X-Parasite.

Some of the original sprites do look homemade, but generally the game looks great, and the soundtrack might be my favourite iteration of it.

On first glance they seem fine. It was kind of cool to see that even creatures as monstrous as the Metroids had a key place in their native ecosystem, and that wiping out any species has knock-on effects to the environment.

Of course then the manga retconned that so that the Metroids were artificially created by the Chozo, but then that raised the question of "why hadn't EVERYTHING been taken over by the X before that on SR388?" Because by the time you get there there are clearly multiple indigenous species there that AREN'T X-Parasites.
There's also the question of why you never see ANY X-Parasites at all, I mean, even if the Metroids are snacking on them, you should still be encountering the odd one here or there, otherwise WHY would the Metroids be living in the places you find them? Samus should have encountered the X multiple times, because she was deliberately going to where the Metroids are, and THEY are hardly going to go somewhere where there's no food, are they?

The only possible explaination I can think of, is that the Metroid had hunted the X-Parasites to near extinction by the time Samus arrives and have begun to feast on the other indigenous lifeforms. Presumably the Chozo had a plan to keep their numbers down in this instance. Probably related to the fact that they've only got a single queen.
There's also the question as to how their lifecycle works, given that there's literally only 60 or so Metroids in existence by the time you get to SR388. At least 4 or 6 or so of which probably hadn't even been born during this great culling.

The more you think about it, and the more nintendo try to explain it, the less sensical it gets.

I think the ZM manga was the worst thing to happen to Metroid prior to Other M because it starts the trend of portraying the Chozo as ineffectual retards by saying that, not only did they create the Metroids, but they also allowed Mother Brain to bring the Pirates to Zebes AND allowed her to authorize their own genocide.

Prior to this, the Chozo were just a lost race of ancient bird-things that had previously lived on a variety of planets, and who had nifty tech that inexplicably worked with Samus's suit. Why was that? Who were they, really? What happened to them to make them disappear, leaving behind only statues and technology?

They didn't need an explanation, because their purpose in the series was to be this vague, technologically-advanced progenitor species. Had the manga only shown them alive during Samus's lifetime, and given confirmation to the long-held rumour that Samus had been raised by them - or at least, was familiar enough with their technology that for one reason or another her suit was able to use what they left behind - it would have only ruined their mystique but not them as a people. But no, we had to get "Chozo made the Metroids to counteract this deadly space parasite" AND "Oh, that's okay Mother Brain, we'll let your pet Pirates take over our planet and slaughter us. After all, ours was a decadent society".

Because they both share the common goal of taking down the Mother Brain-controlled Federation, Samus is out all her items because it's the start of a new game and needs the Pirates to supply her with new ones, and the Pirates need Samus because she's the only one that's actually a competent fighter on account of losing the majority of their military might in the aftermath of Prime 3 and Super.

How canon is it that Ridley killed Samus's parents? The manga I know this is depicted in was written by the director of Other M, which is no longer canon itself, and I wouldn't trust him with any lore after that.

Ridley definitely killed her parents, ate them, and then bragged about it to baby Samus because he's a cunt.

Yeah, but eating people is family-friendly. It doesn't have to be gory - you can just gobble someone up in one big gulp and it's a scary but not bloody villain that a child can deal with.

Look at Bubble Bobble. That's pretty horrifying when you think about it - they vomit up mutagenic saliva over people which then transforms them into mad berzerkers or dehumanises them into fruit. It's still a cutesy all-ages arcade game though.

What I'm getting from this is that the metroid universe is a decent and nice place to live, IN SPITE OF every single ruling body or maraunding band having a terminal case of hubristic tragedy.

So samus aran, bounty hunter and general do-gooder is the sole reason that metroid is not a grimdark cake where all the parties involved are laughably evil in their own little ways.
>>
>>60330224
Parts of the ruling bodies are pretty terrible, sure. But the Federation Navy and Marines seem to be pretty swell guys, even if the average trooper is only about a 1:1 match against the average space pirate.
>>
>>60330263
The average space pirate is a 2-meter tall giant lobster capable of jumping several body lenghts, doted with "natural" chest-sized claws and enough plasma to blow up an armored limb with one volley.

The federation is well above okay in trooper equipment.

I didn’t know about this, and I’m simply going to refuse to believe it happened that way until some Metroid game says it did.

This is completely true. However, it’s worth noting that here again the Prime series was able to say a lot without completely fucking things up (see above).

The way Prime handled the Chozo was pretty great. >I didn’t know about this, and I’m simply going to refuse to believe it happened that way until some Metroid game says it did.

The Chozo in the manga and ZM are old. Really old. They built Mother Brain to run the planet because they couldn't do it by themselves any more. As they got weaker and more senile, Mother Brain grew resentful, considering her charges an embarrassment to the godlike Chozo race of ancient times.
>>
>>60331468
So the Chozo are a warning against an aged and declining population letting their government import "refugees" to counteract said decline?
>>
>>60331378
Those "not-evil aligned hunters" are pretty much only not-evil aligned because cutting out half of their potential customers would be a bad business move.

No, they're a warning against an aged and declining upper caste deciding to do away with the old methods with increasing automation.
