?
>>
>>60790485
WotC has been getting positive feedback on Brawl, so I doubt they care.
>>
>>60790729
I assume there just must be the tiniest possible sliver of an overlap between the Brawl audience and the GP-attending audience. Most of the people who give half a shit enough to play Brawl must be kitchen table as fuck. Anyone with the resources to head to a GP is probably just playing Commander.
>>
>>60790100
That Karn in the background

>why am the fuck am I at a bar, I cant even drink
>>
>>60790905
Why would Brawl ever be more popular than Commander for kitchen magic? They usually don't care about formats.
>>
I would have gotten into brawl if my group cared for it. I pitched it to them but they weren't interested.
>>
>>60791102
Mostly because there's no reason for EDH players to go to Brawl unless they really want to use the current PW cards as their commander. Brawl is a gateway to EDH, not the other way around.
>>
>>60791102
Our group tried it and found the format extremely shallow.
>>
>>60791013
I never said that it would be more popular, just that there would be room for it there.

>>
>>60791327
What I meant was that kitchen table players rarely even know what the Standard format is and them having to keep up with what rotates when is too much to handle when you can just take 100 cards from any old shoe box and play with it.

>>
>>60790485

>>
>>60791595
Unfortunately I can't really play dragons since my meta has 2 faggots who want every game to go infinite or just play tryhard as hell. Think I might dismantle my Meren deck and use her pieces for the deck along with some choice red cards, the new squee seems like a good option
>>
>>60791640
>muh oppressive combos
Grow up
>>
>>60791553
Yes i try to avoid them as muh as possible but sometimes its not possible. For example they are the only ones owning ita legends stuff. So if you want a legends card, let say angus mackenzie, but don't wanna spend 250$ on it, you pretty much have to buy from a filthy itanigger because they have it for 70$ (was 20$ until march).
>>

>>60791640
Stick a Sek'Kuar, he makes some neat tokens so you get some value even if you just kill a regular creature that you have just for the ETB or something, then you can kill the token if you don't want to crack anything else.
Worst case scenario you spend a couple cents on a cheap card you won't use, but I like him

Time for you to stop playing commander. There's nothing wrong, you can build however many decks doing whatever you like. If you have 15 decks dedicated to "combos" I know they aren't very good, because your resources are divided among multiple things.

There's nothing wrong with combos, there's everything wrong with casual pubstompers who think they're hot shit, then bitch online because they only have a tentative grasp of the subject, coupled with a fragile ego.

I like them because they can both be creature-combo decks, and I'm a combo player in a VERY creature-centric meta so I can get blown out if my defenses aren't up and running. My only worry is that Ghalta would draw a fat load of hate because a 12/12 in the command zone for green is no laughing matter, whereas Seton can kind of sneak past you if you're unaware of how gross he can be.

Pic related fits squarely in the Jank Zone most of the time. It's fun to have the option of injecting the "what if X was an artifact??!?" element into things at any moment; it's rarely going to determine the fate of the game, but the versatility and fun of it makes it worth running in some decks.

Assuming its trash just because you can't store the mana just doesn't make much sense, especially when that anons list is less focused on storing mana and beating people to death with Omnath himself and more just green goodstuff that happens to have him at the helm.
>>
>>60793093
how much recursion should a mono green deck run?
>>
>>60794572
Depends on your meta. My Omnath deck runs Season's Past and Praetor's Counsel and calls it a day. A single mass recursion spell is usually all I need to come back with a vengeance. I might also chuck in a Greenwarden of Murasa because I have a foil one that looks gorgeous, though it's probably not optimal.

Has anyone here played with Memnarch? How well does it generally perform and what's your go-to plan when Memnarch doesn't stick?
>>
>>60795446
Well, yes. It sounds silly but it's technically correct if we look at badness as a gradient. It's less bad relative to average, which means until it is more bad relative to average it's worth keeping.
>>
>>60795409
If the entire deck is built around Omnath, sure. But the list that anon posted is like 90% generic green goodstuff with a few pieces of Omnath support. Yeva, Nylea, Selvala, etc would fit just as fine at the helm of that deck.
In a generic goodstuff Omnath list like that, Sol Ring is fine. He will find uses for the mana most turns.
>>
>>60795481
memnarch is one of the most hate-attracting commanders you can play. I've seen some pretty boring decks built around him. the only fun deck I've ever seen someone play with him is a flavorful myr deck.
>>
>>60794898
My recommendations are precisely what this fine anon said-
>>60794989
And desu if you're averse to both of those I have to wonder what attracts you to spellslinging.
>Almost everything I play is very heavily creature based so this will be something new.
There are other archetypes that go light on creatures; have you tried building heavily around artifacts, or enchantments, or even lands? Decks like Gitrog can be fun and powerful while running <15 creatures.

>>60795077
>Now these 2 I am actually interested in.
Adeliz will presumably still rely on creatures quite a lot, not sure if it can even be called a spellslinger deck so much as a tribal one. Talrand would be closer to what you initially requested.
>>
>>60795489
I didn't look at his decklist. With about 10-15 green acceleration cards in an omnath deck a colorless mana rock is a dead draw, and even green goodstuff is served better in such a deck. I can't think of any justification to run sol ring with omnath unless you somehow can't acquire green colored ramp or forest fetchers, or if it's some left-field artifact deck using omnath as a pool.
>>
>>60795481
Played memnarch, he's underwhelming. The only time he'll resolve and do anything other than die is if you have infinite mana, or tutor up an expensive fucking lattice then cast your 7cmc commander and THEN spend more Mana. It's okay, but for the hate you receive you could run the same decent Venser.
>>
>>60795503
>>60795578
Well shit, I figured. Memnarch looks like the kind of thing that needs a massive amount of artifact mana to get anywhere and will just play like any other artifact deck unless he can stick on the board. The reason I ask is because I'm looking for something a little more control-oriented or at the very least different from my current deck so that I can have a distinct secondary deck.
>>
>>60795481
It performs pretty well in my experience, but I haven't played with it in ages.
When he doesn't stick, I play clones, lock the board with Mycosynth lattice and March of the machines, with Master of etherium to keep my lands alive. I've also generated infinite mana through Tamiyo's ult and Mind over matter, or had Mindslaver loops. Then also there's just beating face with Thopters, where Tezzeret's ult comes in handy.

>where not to include sol ring
When you really hate doing things.

Unless your Omnath is literally 99 forests, or every card in the deck is max green devotion, you benefit from Sol Ring. As much as comparable non-omnath brews? No. Enough to be worth the slot? Hell yes. You'll be (re)casting Omnath sooner and/or with more green floating and can cast your other spells at less cost to Omnath's body. Or do you intend to treat the guy like an Epic spell where you're not doing shit else after he resolves? I for one would rather have the option to Harrow for a net of +1, rather than -1, in-pool than I would an extra forest or whatever else you're suggesting to run over Sol Ring. And that's assuming you're playing a fairly hardcore "get me all the mana" Omnath and not the generic green goodstuff with Upwelling in the command zone that we see.

Windgrace will be the face card of a deck if he's there so he's probably safe from being *complete* shit, but we also know as much as we can that he's present.

So let's look at what the characters have in common

Ludevic was a bottom-up design from a cycle that was 100% underwhelming, and unlike Sidar he clearly didn't get tinkering after they decided to name the card Ludevic. He was a hugely popular character that Wizards felt they "had" to do.

O-kagachi is also a clear mechanical inclusion (being one of only a few unprinted 5c characters or uber-dragons, and then only if you squint at the lore just right) but was at least a top down design. I'm pretty sure he was a victim of "Giving up". They realized that they could never make an O-Kagachi that lived up to the story presence (especially not if they didn't want him to outshine Ur-Dragon) they had so they just slapped a card together with a totally safe set of abilities and a nonzero but weaksauce flavor tie they could pawn off as being not even his final form (since he's missing That Which Was Taken)

That means, if we're looking for the disappointing card, we'd be looking for a character with a LOT of hype, either in old power level or common popularity, and a situation where the designers have one hand tied behind their back. The latter condition is bad news for Windgrace, because PW commanders are already dangerous and I feel like they're likely to "play it safe" compared to Teferi and Daretti from the last round. However, Windgrace doesn't have a ton of clout, and could be represented with a fairly safe card like Freyalise.

I'm calling Taysir as this year's disappointment. Either he's not 5 colors (and thus WRONG) or he is and his card stinks to high heavens because WotC is increasingly terrible at designing cards north of two colors and they'll err on the side of caution, ruining his cred as one of the mightiest Planeswalkers to ever live.
>>
>>60796927
You're right. He's more likely to be Mardu.
>>
>>60796901
Windgrace is anywhere in the Mardu spectrum. His card depictions are Red (Planeswalker's Fury) and White (Divine Light) while he's a Panther Warrior (B) from Urborg (B) and the characters that bear his name like Crovax and Aryel are at least partially Black.

>>

>>
>>60797132
The third set is supposed to be "Different" from just being another Rav set (no Dragon's Maze 2.0) and they've been salting Saheeli heavily what with her being the only one other than Tezz who should be able to mess with the artifice of the Planar Bridge, and Huatli just fucking happening to run into her. I'd say she's still plot important enough to show up for the Bolas Showdown. New art of her with a Kaladesh background could be set 3: the multiplanar or maybe a PW Deck Saheeli (when booster pack Saheeli would be on Rav).

Or she could be in C18, the door is admittedly open.

Everything in Omnomnomnath only costs green mana. There is absofuckinglutely no sight of generic mana symbols in literally ANYTHING IN THE DECK.
NOTHING AT ALL EVER

Make it retarded expensive with a pitifully small effect. Something you'd basically need to already have infinite life to with win.

>Make a cool card
>But make it shit

They don't like doing that kind of thing because it's a waste of the concept.
>>
>>60798642
Okay I might have overreacted, but can you show me a deck that has absolutely no generic mana symbols in it with a coherent strategy that isn't you just throwing together cards to prove me wrong? I'm not trying to be a dick this time, I'm actually, genuinely serious.
I think it's wrong to discredit one of the best cards you can run in the format on a hypothetical, yet to be used, situation. It's almost like a "dies to removal" argument. It's almost like that time a white knight judge interrupted my girl friend who was explaining to a newer player that Sylvan Library is almost an auto include in a green deck, because "WHAT IF YOU CAN'T ALWAYS PAY THE LIFE TO DRAW"
>>
>decks that wouldn't run sol ring
There's very, very few, but one example might be something like elfball where all your creatures are cheap and low to the ground anyway so you'd rather just have another elf.
>>
Guys am I the only one that would fuck the absolute shit out of Kiora? Like I would honestly fuck her until my body gave out and I don't know why

I really want there to be some old school non-cat commanders in this new commander set. I also pray to god that the Kamigawa shit is kept to a minimum, I really don't want to have to see a product wasted on more useless legends.
>>
what are some good white stax cards other than hokori?
>>
>>60798865
Of course you aren't, there's always fan of fish pussy around. Although there's been lots of proclaimed love of dragon pussy lately.
I think there's good chances of that. Gavin's been pretty good to us lately.

Are you guys ready for tomorrow?
Are you guys ready for the inevitable?
>Announcement by WoTC
>Another Commander deck series is set to release soon and we can't wait to share with you our new products!
>We heard the playerbase! We're so happy to see so many players asking about Kamigawa.
>We decided to dedicate an entire!!! deck to an iconic Kamigawa legend.
>But before we get to the spoilers, we reached out to the Commander Rules Committee and they agree that a few changes have to be made so that the format is easier to program on MTGO
>starting today ALL planeswalkers will be able to be your commander!
>That's right! Pick your favourite hero (or villain) and head down to your lgs and decide once and for all, who the most powerful planeswalker in the multiverse is!
>Our second change may seem extreme, but we feel it's time to make the format more intuitive for new players and retards alike! Starting today, there will be no more commander damage.
>This change comes from how we view the SPIRIT OF THE FORMAT and how mtg players have FUN with their """FRIENDS""". Swinging with a big creature, often with haste, and some sort of unblockable ability just isn't conducive to the thrilling matches of magic we (and the rules committee) strive to create
>But onto the spoilers!
>Our Kamigawa legend, leading you into the fray is...
>Isamaru! Hound of Konda! We look forward to hearing about the crazy matches you'll have
>The deck focuses on Isamaru sniffing out the strongest in your pod and then leading an army of token soldiers into battle!

pretending to be an idiot isn't as funny as you think.

people have blown the kamigawa statement waaaay out of proportion. gavin said that he likes slipping kamigawa reference cards into products. that's it. not a big deal.

Wouldn't this be opposite? Don't most people prefer killing by commander damage over anything else? Shouldn't the meme be more along the lines of:
>All infinite combos are banned; all alternate win conditions such as Laboratory Maniac are banned; all extra turn cards are banned; it now takes 21 poison to kill, just like commander damage! We do hope you like these changes as much as we do!
>>
>>60799046
I wish so bad they get rid of cmdr dmg, it was the most stupid idea ever.
>>
>>60799228
Not as stupid as keeping lethal poison at 10 instead of half starting life like it is in any other format.

I agree but it has nothing to do with the matter. Cmdr dmg is a new rule they enforced, poison is an old one they didnt updated.

>21 poison damage to kill
I'd weep for my Yargle deck if they pulled that shit.
>>
>>60799228
What? There are entire decks that would fall apart with out Commander Damage and how do you counter lifegain with out infinite combo(which is way lamer than commander damage)?

Starting life should be 30, to make aggro a more viable option and less shit. Commander damage should stay at either 20 or 21, since it gives a decent option against lifegain decks and the like. And poison needs to be fixed to 15 to reflect the increased maximum life total.
>>
>>60799461
Do you know how much of a fucking slog games would be without commander damage, anon? I don't even play voltron, I don't like the style of it, but there removing commander damage now makes lifegain decks immune to dying through combat at all.
>>
>>60799046
I swear to god if they make all planeswalkers into commanders and kill commander damage, I'm switching Kozilek with Ugin and I'm just gonna start memeing on everybody.

There's literally nothing wrong with current commander damage and infect rules.
>>
>>60795171
I use that in decks with Xenic Poltergeist and Spine of Ish Sah. Or Priest of Yawgmoth. Swing with a 7/7, sac it to get it back and pay for itself and destroy another permanent. Rinse and repeat.
>>
>>60799491
You will know it immediatly if its a fake, they dont have the same texture (they are super glossy), the back is always fucked up (faded colors/ too bright) and smell is off. If you manipulate cards since a long time it's super blatant, only way to not be sure about fake or not is just having a pic of the front card, but once you can get your hand on it and 'feel' it, you know it, believe me.
And to my knowledge fake french doesnt exist.
>>
>>60799524
>And poison needs to be fixed to 15
This. 20 is just too much. It's a soft ban on poison as a strategy.
Ban Triumph though. If you wanna play Infect do it right.
>>
>>60798749
I could see it not being used in something like Zada. A huge amount of of a Zada deck is 1-2 mana spells, and you'd much rather draw a card that either produces tokens or is something you can use with Zada to go off than getting to play Zada early without the setup for her.
>>
>>60799747
>It's a soft ban on poison as a strategy.
And?
>>
>>60799747
Triumph really isn't much worse than any other overrun; it's about as lethal as derphoof with the downside that everyone is, in essence, going to be at full when you start. Harder to recur and leaves no body behind if it doesn't pull off the kill..
>>
>>60799747
10 poison is fine. Majority of the infect creatures we have are just overcosted vanilla creatures.
>>
>>60799906
Triumph can be a kill where Overrun wouldn't be in tons of scenarios.
It's the very rare board where Overrun would be a kill but Triumph would not.

How fun is Zirilan?
I want to go full Timmy.
>>
>>60800226
Zirilan is great. Throw out some awesome jank dargons at instant speed.
>>
>>60800226
If you're going monored timmy Feldon is the way to go. You can still play the fun dragons but you get a lot more looting which manages to keep the whole thing moving.
>>
>>60800139
Solemnity or that new bitch that removes all counters from a player and prevents them from gaining more in a deck that plays phyrexian unlife. Brago could play the strat.
>>
>>60800364
I would think fetching a dragon out of the deck would be more versatile than having to cast spells to dump things in yard and then also pay to get them.
>>
Thinking of building Marwyn the Nurturer. She seems like a typical elfball commander at first glance but I think there's some hidden potential. The second ability to add green only cares about Marwyns power, doesn't care at all about the elves you have. I also don't think it's a good idea to rely too much on the first ability as it could be rather slow at times ramping up her power by playing elves. So basically I'm looking for other good cards to instantly bring up her power like maybe Strata Scythe. Also think Greater Good and similar cards would be great.

Any of you anons listen to music in the background while you play?
Me and my group usually put on some Blind Guardian or something similar in the background. Really sets the mood for some epic wizarding battles.
>>
>>60800432
The problem I had was Zirilan would just get killed and the deck wouldnt do a lot if he wasn't out. So Feldon and lots of wheels is where I went and it worked a bit better for me.
>>
>>60800539
My group bicker's about each other's music tastes so no one wants to put anything up.

Though last session I put on Guilty Gear themes up as a joke and we listened to that most of the night.
>>
>>60800539
Not very often as we usually play at the LGS, sometimes when at one of our friends it's music comedians like Tim Minchin or Stephen Lynch going on in the background. Half the group would just put on death growling if they were given the chance to pick their own music, so I'm happy with the comedy stuff.
>>
>>60800539
I once put this on in the background and we got through like 4.5 hours of it before someone finally spoke up to ask me to turn it off.

It's straight-up worse.
>>
>>60796122
as a commander she's lackluster as Trostani and Rhys can actually go fast and win games. She's certainly welcome in a GW deck's 99 but you can do better for a commander.
>>
>>60800411
Suncleanser only hits opponents so it can't protect you from poison but if you really got a hateboner for the poison player you could protect someone else.
>>
>>60796122
I actually made exactly that, since mono-W is too lacking in EDH too make mono-W-Angels.

No but it's marginally better than Krenko's Command.

I still need to go through M19 and pick out things to add from that though, like Serra's Guardian.

Not asking for ccg, but what general theme do people want for a “good” boros commander? Since boros legends being related to combat is so bad apparently.

it's not very complicated. you could aggro down a stax player if starting life totals were 30. i'm a combo player and 40 life means that i basically don't have to care about creatures. it's bad.

>>60800226
endless sands/portcullis/cold storage = forever dragons

>>60801250
there are a few obvious directions to take it
>recurrsion
red gets back artifacts and white gets back small creatures. if you combine those things you have a good commander.
>tokens and sacrifice effects
imagine siege gang commander combined with brimaz
>redirection
red can redirect spells and white can redirect damage. put both of those effects on one creature and you have a fun politics commander.
>disruption
white has tons of taxing and restriction effects. red has lots of disruptive chaos effects. you could combine those into one really annoying card. basically rule of law and blood moon had a baby and it was annoying.

the fact that wotc ignores all of these conceptual overlaps is bewildering to me.
