Paizo Games General /pgg/

What type of setting do you prefer for your campaigns? Is it all medieval pastiche all the time? Emergent technology? Steampunk?

Late industrial magi-tech seems to be the most common for me. Advanced firearms, wireless telecommunication, purchasing scrolls at a literal MagicMart chain, that sort of thing.

My GM was skipping Golarian ahead to around "1700's era tech" for our next campaign, though how well it works out and impacts the world at large is yet to be seen. Rolling in commonplace guns, with advanced as a solid "maybe later", and we've already established airships, so I imagine we might end up with a bizarre "magitech-punk" out of it if anything.

If I ever run a game, though, it's probably going to end up being the most GENERIC kind of "fantasy setting", just because I want something simple to use as backdrop for a smaller scale (5th-8th level) adventure.
>>
>>61371978
I use the Forgotten Realms with emergent technology. It's mostly the AD&D books before 3.0 undid all the advancement. Harpers are an enemy organization in my campaign, which takes place in not!Greece, since they want to keep the medieval stasis.

The PCs will have a chance to stop them from finding out about not!Egypt's steam engine.
>>
>>61373077
Old Red Wizards, Zhentil Keep and Bane are my favorite evil organizations.
>>
>>61373123
It's 1369 DR in the campaign.

The siege of Zhentil Keep ended, but the city is still rubble from the events in Prince of Lies. The PCs met a few refugees.
Bane is still dead, and will be for the next few years. Iyachtu Xvim is currently the deity of Hatred and Tyranny.
The Red Wizards are still setting up enclaves in the campaign's area, but that will be slowed down when the Ship of the Gods volcano explodes, and Thay loses most of it's ports and naval fleet.

Are there any upcoming releases for 1e announced now that Planar Adventures has come out? Has Paizo said anything about how the playtest and eventual release of Pathfinder 2e will affect the release of books for Pathfinder 1e and Starfinder? I know at least that they won't be doing more APs for 1e.
>>
>>61373566
there's like, two more APs for 1e to go my man, but their original plan was "no more core line after Planar Adventures only handbooks and the remaining APs, no more releases period after August 2019 when 2e is scheduled to release" but the absolute fucking DISASTER that is 2e's playtest may force them to walk back on that.
>>
>>61373669
>but the absolute fucking DISASTER that is 2e's playtest may force them to walk back on that.

Nah, I doubt that. Do you really think Paizo is going to do anything except the playtest was a big success and continue full steam ahead? I don't. The better question is what will happen after that.
>>
>>61373722
>The better question is what will happen after that.
This. A lot will hinge on the the stuff they roll out for 2e in the next year. Paizo won't make any changes in terms of production or system unless forced by sales numbers - which are a lagging indicator, so I'd guess 2 years-ish before we know.
>>
I'm playing a 1PP only Kineticist and it's working out fine for me. I keep up pretty well with the Paladin's damage output without having to take any extra burn beyond what I feed into my defensive talents at the start of the day to active Elemental Overflow. This class doesn't really seem that bad.

For reference, my typical attack is an electric blast with +17 to hit against touch and (5d6+13)x1.5 damage, thanks to Empowering Metakinesis, and a fort save to avoid being defeaned forever or staggered for a turn depending on whether I staple on a Thundering or Synaptic infusion. We're level 10.
>>
>>61373722
>>61373812
At absolute best they'll half-heartedly make some changes to attempt to placate criticism, but not actually fix anything, at which point everyone besides die-hard paizotards will throw up their hands and go back to 5e.
>>
>>61373939
Or stick with Pathfinder, which is the likeliest outcome.
>>
>>61374170
I'm pretending that newcomers will look at the system

>>
Playing 1e. Is a 1 level dip into uMonk a good option for uRogue? It seems like it would be. Full Attack Flurry of Blows, use the first attack to Stunning Strike, then the other two to apply SA dice.

Right?
>>
>>61374988
It doesn't say that it's smite evil, it just says that you can make a smite attack. This allows a gm plenty of leeway to make it smite good or whatever is appropriate.
But yes, if 'one smite attack' is taken as smite evil, then you can smite evil while being an evil creature... hell, I think it's actually just a completely generic smite that works on any alignment
>>
>>61375012
Yeah, monk or brawler can be a decent dip. The only problem is you'll need to lose your armor
>>
>>61374988
Once per day you can make a single attack with +5 damage and +cha to attack against any target you want.
>>
>>61375379

> Get captured
> Get stripped
> Use Escape Artist or something and get out
> Guards think you're easier to hit since no armor
> Suddenly start kung fu fighting like this is the Raid or something
>>
>>61374988
Evil fighting evil is certainly a reasonable situation. After all, how are you supposed to climb up to the top of the mountain if not on the backs of those villains that are your lessers?
>>
>>61375507
Only on a single attack? I thought single-attack Smites didn't exist in PF.
>>
>>61375379
We're using Spheres of Might, so I already have Unarmored Training, and go around w/o armor. My AC is 21 with Inner Sphere Stance.
>>
>>61375750
>If the wearer is not a member of such a class, once per day she may make one smite attack, gaining a bonus on the attack roll equal to her Charisma bonus, and a +5 bonus to the damage roll on a hit.
That's pretty clear, might be one of those items they fucked up on converting from 3.5
>>
>>61375824
Well if it was me I'd errata it into a full on Smite instead of just one attack. The fact that it doesn't state whether or not it bypasses DR like a normal Smite leaves more room up for interpretation, but to balance it out I'd rule that unlike normal Smites it probably wouldn't.

>>

An idiotic slut who plans to backstab you in the future sounds like the perfect sort of person to turn the tables on and then fuck, though.
>>
>>61376815
That's because romance in a tabletop game is effectively romance with the DM, and the only people who do it are into that, whether they realize it or not.
>>

The brawler class as a lizardman gives you most of that. The Craft skill and a couple feats covers your robots and gadgets, but it's a lot of investment for not much return. The blunderbus would be nigh useless on that build, though.

So I am currently in a game where we are building a colony, we're currently doing organizational stuff for voting and my character is proposing how our system will work. It is meant to do a number of things, but mainly both allow everyone to have a chance to participate in governance and to ensure societal pressure ensures moral behavior.

Here are the proposals:
>The governing body of the colony will be a council of special interest groups (The initial special interest groups will be the 3 main branches of the church)
>Special interest groups may have any number of members, and the council at large can not force members into the a special interest group, groups internally decide who can and can't join
>You can leave a special interest group at any time, but only to join a new interest group
>Any special interest group may introduce legislature, but only when that legislature receive unanimous approval from that group internally
>Each time a vote is called each special interest group has one member chosen at random to be their representative, this individual may instead chose to give up that seat to another member of the interest group
>Each time a voter is called their name is removed from the lottery until all names in that group is called, where after it resets
>Most decisions and legislature only need a simple major
>Removal or addition of special interest groups must receive unanimous approval, upon inception a special interest group can have any number of members added as decided upon by the council

(1/2)
>>
>>61381429
>Whenever crimes are committed punishments do not occur on an individual basis, but instead both the wrongdoer and one other individual from that interest group (chosen at random) is punished (the additional person receives a lesser punishment)
>All individuals are required to work as per their talents on what ever tasks the council lays out, but only for an 8 hour work day with each 7th day for rest
>Every member is encouraged to attend a betterment course on various skills (Professions, Languages, Etc.), these occur in the evenings

So we often hear about people's favorite Class to play. But most times, the reasons given won't come into play until later levels. So, what's your favorite class/character/build to play at level 1?
Mine's probably Mesmerist because I like subtle influencing magic, and they get a lot of it from the get-go.

Swashbuckler or Cleric.
Swashbuckler is already one of my favorite classes and it gets its key fun features at 1.
Cleric just because they do literally everything well at level 1. You can play an armored melee fighter with a ranged domain power who heals the entire party for days. Or do pretty much anything else.

Um... quick question. You are aware that energy blasts start out doing 1d6+half your Contact modifier and when it increases every odd level it just goes up by 1d6, right?

Where is the +13 coming from?
>>
So, how bad of an idea is it to be a melee focused kasathan soldier in Starfinder and what is the best way to not overly gimp said concept?
>>
>>61383617
Not him but kineticist math is easy.
+5 from dice (each die gives +1 flat)
+6 from kinetic overflow (+2 for every 3 levels)
+2 from CON (meaning a score of 18 or 20)
That's actually a bit low for an energy blast since it looks like he's investing heavily in DEX when energy blasts give you the leeway to lean towards more CON if you want.
Can't blame him for picking accuracy and AC over a bit more damage though.
>>
>>61383676
As I just said, energy blasts do not give the flat +1 per die.

At best you have:
+6 from Elemental Overflow
+3 (assuming you have a 20 in Con and add the +2 size bonus from EO into Con)

No, kineticist math isn't hard, especially if you actually know how your abilities work.
>>
>>61371978
>What type of setting do you prefer for your campaigns?
Tales-esque magitek.
>>
>>61383617
My Kineticist has a CON mod of 10 (17 on PB, +3 from race thanks to the Alchemically Enhanced trait for humans, +2 from level up, +4 from a belt, and +4 from Elemental Overflow) which adds +5 damage to an energy blast. Elemental Overflow adds +8 to damage, because I have an overflowing rod. I also have Point Blank Shot, but didn't factor that in because as an Aerokineticist with constant Fly and doubled range from Air's Reach, I'm usually too far away for Point Blank Shot.

>>61383676
Only physical blasts add the flat +1 damage per die (and incidentally, my physical blast deals 5d6+23, the extra ten damage coming from that flat bonus and getting to use my full CON mod).

I've actually got considerably more investment in CON than DEX which I originally felt worried about because I thought I would be using my physical blast more than my energy blast. I end up defaulting to the energy blast though, so it works out. My stat spread is 13/22/30/10/10/7, and that's with a 20 PB, a Belt of +4 CON/DEX, and my Elemental Overflow giving +2 STR, +2 DEX, +4 CON thanks to an overflowing rod.

If you are a multiclass martial disciple, and you learn a new maneuver by attaining a new level in a martial disciple class, determine your initiator level by adding together your level in that class + 1/2 your levels in all other classes (treating racial Hit Dice as class levels for these purposes).
Have at two levels in your preferred class, then dip into one level of an initiating class. You can take 2nd level maneuvers that way.

Yeah, no problem. I maybe should have included all that information in my first post, but I figured if I did that I might as well post everything about my build in a big post, and rather than do that I just figured if people wanted to know where my numbers came from they would ask. I wanted to see what people thought about it, considering the backlash the class has met with. I really expected the character to be shittier, to be be honest.
>>
How do I play a DMPC? I'm down to two players because of an inter party break up, but no one wants to stop playing who is left including me. I considered giving the players second characters to control but one of them already has an animal companion and the other gets a paladin Mount next level. One of them is new and the other still green I don't want to overtax them but playing at the DMPC seems oddly masturbatory. I could step in for the player that left but his build is stupid, I could play bodyguard or support.

I just don't fucking understand how preparing works in Pathfinder

I don't want to ask my DM again. I'd rather look like an idiot to anonymous users than a close friends.

So my character is now at level 3

He has an INT score of 18
Which means he gets bonus spells per day.

He gets an additional spell per day up to Level 4.
The magus must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. Which is 14 so he CAN learn and cast 1 Level 4 spell.

We just leveled up to 3 so I get two new spells I can use.

But last level I was only allowed to prepare 3 level 1 spells? How does that work? Could I have only prepared 2 level 1 spells if I didn't have high intelligence? Does this mean now I can prepare:
3(+1) Level 1 spells
1 Level 2 Spell
1 Level 3 Spell
and 1 Level 4 spell?

Is that correct? Am I over thinking this?
>>
>>61385218
Your class page shows you what spells you can prepare at a given level.

A Level 3 Magus would not be able to cast Lvl4 magic by virtue of it being too advanced for him at that stage.
>>
>>61385218
You get bonus spells only up to the highest spell level you can cast. This is why there are some classes that, at certain levels, get access to 0 spells-per-day for one spell level, because they get none by default, but with bonus spells prepared they can get access to them
>>
>>61385218
Also, yes. Last level you would have only been able to prepare two Lvl1 spells of not for your high Intelligence.

At level 3 you can prepare four Lvl0 spells and three Lvl1 spells. With your high intelligence that becomes four Lvl1 spells.
>>
>>61385274
>>61385309
>>61385342

Okay. So I understand preparing spells now.

I'm still confused. I'm not trying to be over powered at this stage but I'm just reading from what it says about a Magus.

If I have the intelligence to cast it and the 1 level 4 bonus spell then why wouldn't I be able to gain a level 4 spell when I level up? It doesn't even say you have to be a certain level to cast it. Just that your intelligence has to be high enough.

I'm really sorry I'm not trying to be a bother I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything as I have a past of doing that a lot.
>>
>>61385389
Because a class can only utilize spells that it actually has access to. You will not have access to Lvl4 spells until you are Level 10.
>>
>>61385389
A rule of thumb in this system is "Specific trumps General"

In this instance the General rule of preparing spells due to having enough Intelligence is trumped by the Specific way that the spellcasting class feature of the Magus is written.

what is the worst (overall flavor, mechanically and role play potential) class paizo ever put out? monk? Shifter? Samurai? 2e alchemist?
>>
>>61385915
Samurai.
It should've been a Cavalier archetype.
>>
>>61375012
Do you have good Cha? go scaled monk so you use Cha instead of Wis.

>stunning strike
As someone who plays monks a lot and is currently with one at 9th level, you won't stun much, really.
>>
So I've just been roped into a 2e session and it's starting tonight. From what I'm hearing I should play a Caster Cleric that channels Positive Energy. Any advice on what deity/domain I should take? Also, would it be worth going Human to snag that class feat that allows me to carve my deity's symbol into stuff early?
>>
>>61385915
I'd call it a tie between core-only monk, release Shifter, and 2e Alchemist, with 2e Alchemist taking the crown at this point in time. Samurai is at least as functional as Cavalier is, as far as I can tell, even if it should just be an archetype for Cavalier.

You could try assigning the DMPC some personality traits by hand or rolling for them. You should address basic personality traits like need for social dominance and how they deal with people and stress. That gives you a framework to work from.
If you're ever in doubt about about the DMPC, just roll some random dice and treat the extreme results as the DMPC escalating their behavior a bit from the norm.
Example:
Demeanour: Proud
Under Stress: Calculating
Major Personality Trait: Skeptical
Mannerism: Delayed reactions
Traits: unimaginative, conformist
Tendencies: worker, meticulous, worried

I haven't looked at the playtest yet because of a complete lack of interest. That said, I've absorbed a bit of info about 2e by proximity and what really made me go slack jaw was when I learned that Alchemists have to use their Resonance for bombs. Like, really? Seriously? At least I understand why Paizo decided to give 2e goblins a racial bonus to CHA now...
>>
>>61385915
For roleplay, probably Antipaladin, maybe paladin too.

Mechanically, after 2e alchemist, probably Shifter, or Medium. Both failed pretty hard to do what they were mechanically meant to do. Though some archetypes and FAQs helped them both out alot.

A chaotic-only class that has a rigid code of conduct to follow is really counter-intuitive. At least the Tyrant archetype exists. It's a shame the Antipaladin spell list gets basically no support.

>>

>Cool, glad to be wrong about that.
you're wrong about it, but it doesn't help the class not suck, because they need about five times as much resonance as any other class just to function
>>
>>61385915
Samurai is weapon, but otherwise works. Shifter barely functions, but it does function. 2e Alchemist doesn't function.

Therefore, 2e alchemist is the worst class Paizo has put out.
>>
>>61386426
>A chaotic-only class that has a rigid code of conduct to follow is really counter-intuitive.

The code is literally just "Do whatever the hell you want as long as you can justify it as evil or serving your own goals".

We're starting out at level 15. I'll be playing as a wizard with a bit of swashbuckley flavor. I took martial training I and II with riven hourglass for some fun and because the time aspect fits with my void school. While deciding which discipline to pick I noticed equivocate and thought that would be super useful to have for a number of reasons (not the least of which is that it seem to work against time stop which is something I might face at this level). Obviously I didn't want to dip because I'd lose too much on spellcasting. I think advanced study gets me what I need but if you know of something else I'm all ears as well.

>GM/Player
GM, looking for a single player.

>System Preferred
Pathfinder 2e playtest, at 4th level. This is a two-session premade adventure, half wilderness survival, half dungeon crawl.

>Times Available (with timezone!)
Exactly two sessions of play:
• UTC+0: 9:00 P.M. August 14 to 3:00 A.M. August 15, with the possibility to move the time slot one hour later if needed
• UTC+0: 9:00 P.M. August 21 to 3:00 A.M. August 22, with the possibility to move the time slot one hour later if needed

>Voice/Text
Pure text.

>Method of Play
Discord for conversations, Hamachi and MapTool 1.4.1.7 for positioning and maps. Roll20 is not an option.

>Contact Info
Send a Discord friend request to Earth Seraph Edna#1648.

>Additional Notes
I expect players to abide by the following:
• 1. Players should ideally give 24 hours of advance warning before being unpunctual or absent. The listed game time is not an "everyone should be here" time, but a "we are actually starting at this time" time. The GM will start and run the game as long as at least two players are present, and will personally control any absent players' characters.
• 2. Paizo's playtesting process is under a series of strict deadlines for sending feedback, and since those deadlines are tailored for in-person groups, it will be difficult for a text-based online group to fulfill them. Therefore, the GM requires commitment, dedication, effort, focus, and investment from the players. The players should be fast, efficient, and goal-oriented. Nobody at the table should be laid-back, lackadaisical, or reactive. The group should neither dawdle nor faff around.
• 3. Feel free to roleplay, but do not bog the game down in slice-of-life interactions or asking other characters about their backgrounds (particularly since Paizo's playtest requires players to switch characters every two or three sessions anyway). Try to keep character dialogue and commentary focused on the actual adventure at hand.
>>
>>61386432
The sapphire ooze is pretty cool actually but why?
>>61386282
Why I am getting from this is treat them as NPC battle buddies.
>>
>>61387953

• 4. The GM will be considerably curter and more spartan with descriptions than they usually are, they will be pushy and shove players along, and they will fast-forward through scene transitions to keep the game moving.
• 5. Everyone in the group can describe what they please during combat, but nobody is under an obligation to actually do so for combat actions. The GM will generally give combat descriptions only for the first round and for important moments.
• 6. Players should be willing to be cute anime girls, cute anime girls (male), or very cute anime boys. Expect most NPCs to be the same. This is a major deal-breaker, but it is part of the GM's desired aesthetic.
• 7. Players should be willing to optimize to the hilt and stress-test the playtest with a keen mechanical eye. The point here is not the ability to optimize; it is the willingness to.

From the Planar Adventures Aphorite
Racial Traits
+2 Strength, +2 Intelligence, –2 Dexterity: Aphorites are strong and intelligent, but move and react somewhat stiffly.
Medium: Aphorites are Medium creatures and have no bonuses of penalties due to their size.
Normal Speed: Aphorites have a base speed of 30 feet.
Darkvision: Aphorites can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Skilled: Aphorites gain a +2 racial bonus on checks with a single Craft skill of their choice.
Spell-Like Ability: Aphorites can use protection from chaos once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the aphorite’s class level).
Aphorite Resistances (Ex): Aphorites have electricity resistance 5 and a +2 bonus on saves versus poison and mind-affecting effects.
Crystalline Dust (Su): An aphorite can manifest a haze of crystalline dust that forms into indistinct runes and glyphs surrounding its body. This effect grants the aphorite a 20% miss chance against melee and ranged attacks. Activating this dust is a move action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. The effect cannot be disrupted, but it ends immediately if the aphorite is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. An aphorite can use this ability a number of rounds per day equal to its Hit Dice, but the rounds do not need to be consecutive.
Languages: Aphorites speak Common and either Celestial or Infernal. An aphorite with a high Intelligence score can choose from the following as bonus languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Auran, Celestial, Ignan, Infernal, or Terran.

What would you play with them?

DR, feats, and exploits make the idea plenty viable.

DR: Enhanced Resistance (DR based on BAB), Adamantine armor (+2500 cr for DR/2), and Deflective Reinforcement in your armor(DR/5) means you can soak up a lot of mundane damage, which if your GM is being fair, will be the majority of what you'll come up against. Pair that with an ally popping a shield projector on you every other turn (damn thing's unwieldy), you'll have some good longevity.

I'll do some digging on the particular feats and exploits, and be back in just a tic.

My level 11 alchemist has a heavy crossbow that does
1d8 + 5 + 4xInt + 2d6 acid + 12d6+6 fire as a standard action
This is with minimal investment (a trait + 2 extracts + 1 discovery, a bit of money and a +1 weapon)
I'm thinking of getting Kirin style/strike to bump it up to 6xInt.
What are ways to boost damage with a heavy crossbow? I'm not familiar with ranged weapon feats.

Party (all except Spiritualist designed themselves to be part of a caravan troupe):

>Male Skinwalker Shifter (Adaptive Shifter) child
>Female Aasimar (Agathion) Spiritualist (Haunted) with Jealousy phantom child
>Male Fetchling 3PP Luminary from based on Terry Richardson/Pornographer
>Male Dhampir (Moroi) 3PP Yakuza (Tattooed One - Blood Tong) fluffed as a Russian gangster from Irrisen
>Female Tiefling Alchemist (Gun-chemist) from Irrisen

Needless to say this was a clusterfuck.

>Irrisenis noted large amount of halfing would-be assassins and have a rising hatred for halflings
>Wayang was caught trying to slip belladonna into food again by Yakuza - promptly strung up as well
>Martella successfully rescued
>Party decides to support Eutropias claim mostly out of greed
>Irrisenis refuse to bow
>I think Alchemist intends to fuck her
>Yakuza flogged Luminary

Explosive missile + conductive weapon + that grenadier archetype that lets me add an alchemical weapon to a weapon and targeted bomb Admixture for 2x int for each bomb. My little goblin buddy is shooting a crossbow with 3 explosives attached to the bolt. Can't use fast bombs with it
>>
So, Spheres of Might boys, how would you feel about a Sentinel Archetype that's... Well, literally only "swap mental stat to Charisma, trade Guard Wall for a Steadfast Personality capped by level that affects all Will Saves". I've been trying to think of something bigger, but the class is so tight for a defender concept that anything more feels like it changes the class focus too much.
>>
>>61401115
I did not know conductive weapon works with Alchemist bombs, that's pretty fucking neato.
Also didn't read your question too well, you're looking for ways to increase crossbow damage but unfortunately you're out of luck. Outside of Deadly Aim the only way to increase damage through feats will just be increasing the amount of shots like rapidshot/manyshot, and there's also vital strike.
There's also things like Weapon Specialization and its sister feats but that requires Fighter levels and that means your bomb damage takes a nose dive and not really worth it.
You could squeeze in some damage using a Double (Minotaur) Crossbow, but you'll definitely need Crossbow Mastery for that, and even then it's not set in stone if that even works.
I'll stick my suggestion of a Gravity Bow wand but that's another turn of you sitting around self buffing since it only lasts.
Honestly, I think you're fine as is. You'll probably be needing to take Extra Bombs once or twice since you'll be eating right through them using Conductive Weapon

Say I got this on a Hunter, and my animal companion charges. Would my charge on my turn be a swift action? If so, could I full attack using the rest of my actions? I'm not sure I'm reading this properly.
>>
>>61402724
Yes your interpretation is correct.
>>
>>61401115
Switch to the fire bomber archetype since you're a goblin, that 2d6 acid damage changes to +1 per bomb die.
Sunlight bomb adds +2 damage per bomb die for a large category of enemies and some debuffs as well.
Get a familiar that can wield wands, poisoner's gloves or use touch injection to make buffing easier

Because "Charismatic defender" on Sentinel just feels right. It's not even a writeup, just a thought of "change everything to Charisma, swap this for this, done" which is "okay" but clearly not really an impactful enough change to really get any hype.

In fact, it's well understood that most of pathfinder's broken concepts are core; splats tend to be much better balanced, outside of a few unique problem cases.

>>
>>61404373

>>
>>61403961
>Is everyone who plays Pathfinder a minmaxer who abuses broken splats?
Actually it's the reverse. Most of the worse minmaxers are core only, with a lot of splats actually helping to reign in the cheese.

2nd edition of Pathfinder is coming out soon and has a lot less content. Despite that, avoid starting with it. It's still in playtest, meaning it's possibly still subject to change, and saying it looks mediocre is being generous.
>>
>>61410038
Most content is available for free online, so instead of trying to go through books you can just search for anything you want fairly easily.
Just ask people here for what class/archetype would do well for a specific concept and avoid the fighter, cavalier, wizard, shifter, cleric, gunslinger, summoner and samurai until you have a decent understanding of the system

Well you start with a group and a gm, preferably the one with the most experience is the GM. Try starting without third party content and limit yourself to the standard races. Most of the content from the game is compiled for free in the pfsrd or Archives of Nethys so no need to download a bunch of PDFs and scan through them all. Pick an adventure path, it makes things so much easier especially on a new GM. Rise of the runelords if you want to plan Conan, Skulls and shackles if you want Pirates, kingmaker if you want medieval high fantasy/open world/ nature, Council of thieves if you want urban and high stakes diplomacy, Wrath of the righteous if you want to jerk off you inner paladin, or Jade regent if you want to play Not!journey to the west. build a character accordingly to ft the setting and your preferences. Specialize in what you do, don't start feat chains in 2 forms of combat for example. If you are playing a caster Consider starting as a spontaneous caster; oracle, sorcerer, bard, summoner, inquisitor. They have a few number of spells known and can cast them more often, this is again specialization, making sure you know what your spells can do and to help you not get bogged down in the vast number of spells available, in game.
>>
>>61410440
*If you want to be a rogue, you should use the unchained rogue or the stalker, the normal rogue is garbage
Try to avoid prestige classes, most are quite weak without knowing what you're doing, though there are exceptions like the winter witch

For looking shit up, D20pfsrd will be what most of what you google will link to and it works fine for quick searches but slaps a 'setting neutral' name on lots of content
archives of nethys has the proper names of gods, feats and other content, it's also generally more trustworthy and doesn't have 'editors notes' or 3pp on it
>>
>>61410757
Though, generally anything linked from the homepage on d20pfsrd will be 1PP content, and most pages have a "Section 15: Copyright Notice" box at the bottom of the content with the source and publisher.
