Okay, I'm making a test project for a skitarii rider. I'm very new at this, so I'd like your opinion about this. Many of the details are in the picture. How does it look? Have I missed any important detail?
>>

>>
>>62916256
I think you're severely underestimating the actual size of a sydonian dragoon
You're nowhere near filling the 100+mm base and even with the banner it won't be even half as tall
>>
>>62916469
The decorations on the horse's armour don't look that much 40k, so at the very least I'll try to file the details somewhat. Specially the letters and the sunbeams.
>>
I think the silver on this guy turned out worse than on the previous one, I'll be fixing it up a bit when I work on the next Necron's silver. Having my painting sessions far enough apart for paint to dry in on a wet palette is not great for attempting TMM. I'm beginning to doubt I'll have my basic 7 model Kill Team painted up by the time the campaign ends and painting gets judged. Especially with me planning to start another terrain project, that could get in the way, rather soon.
>>
>>62916556
I've been looking for size comparisons, but to no avail. Is there any place with the exact measurements? If I see there's that much of a difference, i'll try to add servoskulls and other floating stuff.

>>
>>62916657
>>62916469
Oh, that. Sorry, a typo, I meant to say "how to have the original model's arm removed". I'm looking for an skitarii arm that has the arm pointing forward, and then add the serpentia there.

With 80 parts included, this kit contains everything you need to build either one Sydonian Dragoon or one Ironstrider Ballistarii, and comes with a small transfer sheet and a 105x70mm oval base.
>>
>>62917021
Nah, but he's a really nice French dude with a blog. He's quite famous among Carcharodons fans, worked with Robbie MacNive' for a diorama and is in touch with one of the GW sculptors.
>>

i'm fairly certain I've seen him post that guy with the chainglaive before
>>
>>62916948
the pill shaped biker base is right above the 105x70mm one here.
The cavalry base is basically the same size as the old biker base minus the half circles on each side.
>>
>>62917031
Oh, shit, it's that big? Wow, I did not realize it. To be fair, I could still do it, but I'd have to decorate the base with a ton of stuff and then see how to organize it to be valid in the tabletop.

You're in luck. The Skitarii box has a number of arms which can service that purpose. You just need to swap hands with one of the melee arms. Personally, I used the one holding the taser goad, since it's pointed straight.
>>
>>62916256
if you want a mechanical horse you could also look into using this model. Not sure if GW still sells it, but you can probably find it on ebay easy enough.
You'll run into the same problems with scale though.
>>
>>62917461
I've searched for the mechanical steed for a while now. It's pretty rare, it was discontinued a long time ago, and I prefer working on plastic instead of metal.

Got a question, /wip/. I'm about to try to freehand some Raven Guard insignias on space marine pauldrons, and their detail is a little daunting. I'd like to at least have an outline to follow for the first few I attempt, and my research has led me to two options. One is a soft lead pencil, the other is fine liner pens. I've been practicing drawing them all day today and I'm pretty comfortable with the shape, but I've seen some conflicting opinions on how well paint would cover the outline, whether or not to seal the paint first (because painting over ink might cause the ink to run), or if this is even the best way to do this. I've seen fine-tipped paint pens, too, but I've also seen just as much hate for leaking issues or line consistency with paint pens. I also don't want to shell out for a transfer sheet since this is just a couple of models for a kill team. Got any advice on this process?

Generally, before the release date. The earlier the better, so we can start demo-ing sooner. I think I can finish within a week assuming I get some good work periods in.

>Painting by yourself?
Yep, I'm kinda sorta training two other staff members, but they dont have the speed or experience. Also I want a consistent style quality across the kit; they will be on display after all.

>Timeframe
I work better with constraints so I can plan things out. Finished Soul Wars in about a week. Dark Imperium took about a week and a half (I was playing with vallejo's Chipping Medium)

As for quality, I'll be my usual quality. I always do the best I can within reason (for example: a basic bitch isn't going to look more fab than the characters).

Nope, that's why I went with Legion colors for our DG. In fact, we're not obliged to even build them and can even sell them at release. At major release days, I'm often on the floor answering painting questions which only helps promote the hobbyist scene here.

Duncan said he knows Louise (probably before the video in >>62920513 was shot, but who knows?), and was aware that she painted the Rainbow Warriors Johnny, but I suspect the significance of that particular model is lost on him.

If we're lucky, Louise will convince him to paint one up as a Void Bringer and pictures of the model will somehow be made available to us.

>>
>>62920939
Are you choosing not to disclose the contents of the secret envelope? Just curious.
>>
>>62921809
It's long been an open secret that 'eavy metal uses a lot of other paints and custom mixes to do stuff, and the "guides" are more "close approximations using citadel stuff".

Which makes replicating it on video for the plebs a bit of an ass. It's not like they can come onto a "How to Paint Sons of Horus Green" video and say "yeah there's no exact colour, everyone just mixes their own shit"
>>
>>62922048
Think GW installed a tracker on his personal computer?
>>
>>62922090
That’s kind of weak drama in regards to mixing. I could see how it might be sticky if the team is using other brands of paint though. Those GW videos have the mission of keeping people in the closed Citadel product system.
>>
>>62922090

Ah, the good old artist way. Can't have that though, we need Citadel brand already done stuff. Thank God it's there and not overpriced!

One team’s mission is to make models look as awesome as they can, other team’s mission is to teach total newbs how to paint.

It becomes an issue when you have to pretend the well painted models are strictly using newb techniques and “APPROVED” materials shown in the guide/promo videos.

>Think GW installed a tracker on his personal computer?

Given his role in The Company, I suspect Duncan would have both a company-issued mobile phone and a company-issued laptop. Generally speaking, when a company trusts an employee enough to issue those things to him, they come with a disclaimer that you should not expect any privacy when using those devices.

Bottom line: no, I don't think GW installed a tracker on Duncan's PC, but if they had reason to suspect he was doing anything shifty, they have every right to examine it forensically (and/or see where he's been going if he was dumb enough to use the company's network to do it) and nail him to the wall if they find anything.
>>
>>62922346
White sprays are pretty much universally shit.
Grey or an airbrush is your best bet.

If it needs to be a white spray, just take every precaution possible.
Spray a piece of carboard/ a base/ whatever first
Remember that primer doesnt need to go on thick- its something for paint to adhere to, complete coverage tends to gunk up a model
Shake it for like a fucking year
Always watch heat/humidity
Make sure its actually primer. Krylon and other generics tend to have several hundred different cans- double white, gloss white, etc etc. Get something labelled primer, making sure its the one that specifies it can be used on metals and plastics.

Good luck, white rattlecans are hell.

1. I'm not sure if adding it to the OP would be a good idea. Maybe just reposting it in each thread until Dec 1st should be enough?

2. Please, the 6 guys who already wrote me their data to my 2016-email address: Please use this form to register again. Sorry if my previous posts made you believe i'll re-use my old address. This is not the case!

3. Feel free to re-post picture and/or the link alone if anyone asks. I try to look into the thread every day (as i do anyway) but work and other obligations might come in the way.

I think the only core daemon unit that improved were the bloodletters, not that the older ones were bad sculpts but I feel those we have now look more like demonic beings than the khornate beastmen-esque design.

It's weird how all other ones went the opposite way, from weird to plain.
Plaguebearers imo in a less egregious way than the horrors and daemonettes but I still like the metal ones better.

>>62931955
Considering you'll usually be brushing at 15-30 PSI at most, it's more a question if it can go low enough...
Also, is the airflow steady, with no noticeable pulse, because that's not something you want in an airbrush compressor.
>>
>>62931955
I have something similar that I use to airbrush, it works ok. You might have a hard time finding the fittings for it, but once you get that down you should be ok. It will most likely be a whole lot louder then other compressors, so prepare for that.

Those are some good questions. I have no idea currently of how it works or any quirks it might have.

Huh, good to know. Thanks Anon.

Also since that photo, I fucked up the shield emblem big-time. I wanted my gobbo iconography to look like >>62931575 , a spooky luminescent green but it looks like shit.

How did you undercoat those bois?

Doing it right anon. Good job

Not gonna lie, and I see what you were trying to do so I don't blame you for this.

But with the red glow on the white-ish head really makes it look like a robot with a giant pimple poking out the top.

1 gobbo down. What the h*ll can I do to salavage his shield emblem and prevent further aggravation?

Should I just paint it and all future iconography dark grey?
>>
>>62933261
Well, what's your spot colour? Other than red, unless you fancy red moons
>>
So I've bought pic related. I want to know if I can swap his hands for powerswords from tempestus kits. They sort of fit to my eye but I wanted to ask if anybody did such convertions or generally has experience with such replacements.

>>

scion power swords are pretty short and fat so you'll end up with a pair of short dick swords compared to what the model normally has
scions only come with one left handed sword, so you'll need to find another donor if you want to use matching hands
or you could just clip off the blades of the swords and stick them onto the model without replacing the hands at all
>>
>>62933448
Thanks anon. Any tips on replacing the blades so I can swap them back in the future?
>>
>>62933567
>so I can swap them back in the future
no
they're too thin to be pinned without spending six hours drilling a hole with a hypodermic
if you want to make them changeable your only option is to cut off the hands at the gloves and magnetise the joints between wrist and arm
if you're okay with snapping parts off and probably writing them off you can just use superglue for the bonds and stick the model in the freezer so it can be snapped apart easily

If all else fails, you can always cut the blades at the hilt (or fist) and attaching the power swords.

Thoughts? / Advice?

Sweet jesus, the only 'model' I can see is the manreaper. Did you just apply a layer of GS over the top of the model as it was, or was the LoC just a frame for you to get the size right?

Not mad, it's very nice looking, just curious as to the technique.

I think I've nailed down a scheme for my Tau. Camera is pretty shit but I think this shot's decent.

The Fang for the armor, Zandri->Sepia->Screaming Skull for the fatigues.

Any advice or issues?

Anyone have experience with Greenstuff worlds textured rollers? What clay would be the best to use for creating bases?
>>
>>62935441
you know it's made out of green plastic right?

>>
>>62935806
The cheapest should be fine. The rolling pins will leave their imprint easily enough. All you have to consider is whether or not you can put the bases in the oven, if not using a putty instead of air drying clay might be better, if more expensive. DAS will still do the job, the terrain tutor has a video on it.

It'd probably be easier to start with the teal and then paint the negative in the darker color.
Looks like a dark blue to me rather than black though.

How standardised would you guys make an Inquisitor of the Ordo Grammaticus? I'm putting together a team for both KT and Inq28 of them and before I really start I am wondering how deep I should really go. I thought that he could just be a regular, Stormtrooper-y looking guy with some scrolls and a book or two on him. I like to think that ordo doesn't get much funding so they have to take what they can get which would be pretty basic or something pulled out of Artifact Room 2858-859/8 in their offices on Terra.

I was also thinking about (when I expand it to a detachment for 40k proper) using one of the Sigmarines I have (the big guy with the hammer is one) and he could be an Inquisitor in some older power armour with (correctly jotted down) purity seals and the like. His hammer would also be a big stamp-like device.

What do you guys think? Should I stay basic or go all in?
>>
>>62937625

Not least for your shitty anime op image that slows the thread to a crawl, thanks for that.
