After starting the second of his books and seeing it wasn't just a one-off quirk I skipped all of his entries. That was genuinely the only time I've ever gotten fairly deep into a book and quit. I read Their Eyes Were Watching God in grade school complete with the phonetically spelled deep-south accented dialogue, and I swear to god that one actually did drive me insane, but I finished it because I fucking had to for a grade but that's besides the point.Honestly, I'm looking forward to what books come out for the Scouring, now that they're less constrained by established foundational lore.Anyway, it was ok. All things considered the Imperium really isn't all that militaristic. I mean, sure it has a big military, but that's more by virtue of it having so many worlds and people. But they still do things the way we do things today where a small % portion of people are recruited into the military. So just about every other faction is more militarized than they are.
