Both sets of characters from the non-G1 MP lines have followed the pattern of

Glad the thread dilemma has been resolved.

So PotP deluxes so far are not impressing. Slag and Jazz are disappointments, Swoop is okay, and Dreadwind is good because he's a retool of a good figure.

As a guy who wanted a Dinobot combiner, Abominus, and the Seacons, I just can't get excited any more. They had two years to figure out how to make good combiners and they take a step back in almost every way. I have no intention of buying the voyagers, especially with those stickers and no Combiner weapons, so the only thing I'm willing to chance are the leaders and legends. However, since everything now costs more, I'm in no fucking hurry to get them. Hopefully Takara will reveal theirs soon. We an always hope for a Computon situation, especially considering how far Takara went with Ginrai, along with Overlord and the Target masters.

I'm really glad though, as there are plenty of 3ps I want, and the money saved can finally go to sampling those.

Question /TFG/

I skipped on all the Autobot combiners in Combiner Wars, now I find myself regretting it and am looking to get at least one

Between Superion (not looking to get his G2), Defensor and Computron, which is the best one of the three?
>>
>>6621211
Superion is very samey: the Aerialbots are all practically retools of each other. But that said, there's no bad toy in the bunch.

Computron, is the overall best, provided it's the Unite Warriors version.
>>
>>6621190
The dinobots are so weapon deprived I totally see them getting new weapons each. At best, just swords for the one's missing them, at best, 2 extra deluxe guns, 3 new swords, and a new voyager gun for Grimlock. If we're lucky, they make a new combiner weapon as well.
>>
>>6621211
Probably Superion.
>>
>>6621201
How good is the grip with the new hands? It's the one saving grace if they can actually grab deluxes and the like well.

Takara Computron. If that's out of your price range, then I'd rank Hasbro's six-man teams as Defensor>Computron>Superion.

Excellent, you’re in this thread now. Just a reminder of my request from earlier:

>Takara Scattershot, Lightspeed and Nosecone with Hasbro's Strafe and Afterburner (and Scrounge)

Also I just got back from Target and they only had Dreadwing. I think I’ll get Jazz and Swoop next.

I’m putting Dreadwing on Galvatronus. I’ve already got Offroad on him as a leg. Blackwind from the next wave will be his other arm. Still deciding who will be the other leg, so maybe I’ll put Swoop there. Not really interested in Volcanicus.

Well, it's a tiny body that looks like Metalhawk. You can probably keep the Blowpipe arms, and most faceplates are easy to swap (save for Sixshot's or Galvatrons).

If you do make the swap, remember to pair the screw with the face it came with, since they might differ.

Example: If you use the Metalhawk TM, and give it the Blowpipe/Metalhawk face from the boxset, you need to use the screw from the Blowpipe for the Metalhawk TM.

Also they showed that spare hands can plug on to the back of them for added stability. Limb robots will always come with a hand, torso bots will have feet. You can plug 2 of the hands onto the back of the feet for a larger base.

I’m so fucking disappointed by that ugly ass stand. That feels like padding to jack up the price. I also can’t believe they put that unsightly hinge in the middle of the sword. The ability to put it inside the tail like the original toy isn’t important enough to deserve messing up how the sword looks in my opinion. Similarly, I hate that they sacrificed silhouette for the spinning function. It looks like it’s a push post system like the original toy. And that dumb gimmicky shit does not belong on a masterpiece.

They're all made of plastic and all cost money, just the same. I'm not saying I approve of them glutting the box with stuff to drive up the price, but it's a sound explanation.

Honestly, I like the stand idea, though. Imagine if every MP so far had come with interlocking stand parts, you could probably make some pretty cool displays with only a few of them.
>>
I got all of the wave 1 POTP deluxes and I feel like they tried to do too many gimmicks with the Prime Master fist/armor/gun which also effected the figure engineering and size and how everyone is also a combiner limb.

Also my Dreadwind's right wing doesn't peg into the leg all the way to comapred to the left leg and one elbow feels way more loose than the other. I'm gonna probably end up returning it later.

Slug is at best, "upgraded g1 figure with combiner function". He's a bit on the small side though and could have had better elbows. His past incarnates have been all sorta underwhelming/mediocre (animated, AoE, etc). Not the worst, but could be better.

Jazz is OKAY, but the clear plastic is questionable and the RTS/United one is still better. There's some remold potential at least.

Swoop feels extremely light and small compared to everyone else. It's hard to believe he's a deluxe. You can almost not tell he was a combiner until you see the combiner peg is on his back instead of in front like the rest. The clear plastic sword painted red is kinda lame and barely pegs on its torso in dino mode.

I hope the next wave is slightly better.

I think it's funny that the clear plastic has caused a definite discrepancy in white plastic/paint tones on the figure, and the result isn't the collectors wishing for Hasbro to use higher-quality paint and materials, but instead to wish they would aim lower so they can't fuck up. For those of us that remember the time before CW, transparent plastic was rarely the demon its been made out to be recently. Hasbro used to just give a shit and do proper color-matching when they painted.

Golden disk was the gold record from the voyager space probe launched from earth. Before it was launched G1 Megatron somehow got ahold of it and left an encoded message on the disk.

I think there was also some crazy legend about how it was a map to a massive source of energon, which was why beastwars Megatron originally stole it. They didnt find G1 Megatrons message on it till way later and realized they were on earth, where they could alter history.

I forget why they wanted it so bad earlier in the series though.

>robot lower legs and fold up around the Dino's ass. The shins don't really do anything at all besides come apart somewhat to be able to compress more. The thighs flip inside out and fill out the sides of the dino's torso. during transformation to robot the legs would flip around and basically come out the dino's "chest" area
>robot's chest is the dino's underbelly, but with the eyes and brow on a panel that flips away to hide them in dino mode
>Dino's chest area flips inside out to become the sides of the robot torso

>Heads for either mode obviously just hide inside the opposite mode's main body

But it actually looks good...
>>
>>6621538
I don't give a shit if the beast mode isn't perfect, that's trade-off for 0% kibble right there.

There's no way to have a perfect beast mode (until they get to Transmetals) for these things since in the show beast mode looked 100% organic and robot mode incorporated elements from both. All three releases have essentially perfect robot modes, but in order from Primal, to Cheetor, to Dinobot, they progressively require more complex engineering to pull off a decent beast mode.

I can't imagine Primal and Cheetor weren't that hard to pull off since their robot modes in the show already had the kibble as part of the design. I thought for sure MP Dinobot's robot mode would have some issues since there is absolutely no kibble in the show design, but they somehow pulled this off flawlessly.

So the Dinobots should do well too? I mean, they kinda suck, but it's not like there are many alternatives.
>>
>>6622012
>they kinda suck
Can someone explain a non-fan who just buys toys because they look cool why the new dinobots are so bad? They look fine to me.
>>
>>6622023
Limited articulation in dinomode, clear plastic leads to durability issues, compromises for the combining gimmick, perhaps paint not being up to snuff.

Basically big kids wanting little kids toys to match adult collectables they could never afford in the first place, personally they look ok to me too because I know what they are myself, but waiting to see what glorious nippon can do for them
>>
>>6622023
Actually flaws are the clear plastic will lead to breakage easy and they have a lot of hindrance issues like Jazz.

Beyond that everything else is issues with wanting collector quality for something that is aimed at kids and teens.
>>
>>6621998
In the Nrtherlands it's been the same for cw and tr.

Wave 1 lasts for a few months, wave 2 only for a month or two then wave 3 hangs around until the next line.

Little kids toys used to be held to a much higher standard. Hell the Human Alliance toys which were sold for under $20 less than a decade ago are much better than toys today that cost over $200.
>>
>>6622027
>>6622029
Aren't the clear pieces just head covers? That shouldn't cause too many issues.
>>
>>6622031
While I do agree with older toys being higher quality we often forget the rising cost of everything is affecting the toys themselves, safety guide lines constantly changing and of course what people seem to want the most.

Give it 50 years anon and I swear legion class figures will have higher standards than new leaders, when it comes to retail figures its a losing battle, its not like we can actually do anything about it considering hasbro is still pushing for stickers despite complaints and if we stop buying them altogether it'll do us even less favors (you can't bootleg something that doesn't exist and many of us don't evenw ant mp-like products oddly enough)

>>6622033
An anon in the past thread reckoned they were all clear just painted inside, I have yet to see them in hand myself but since I don't have them I'm likely to believe
>>
>>6622035
Yeah if Hasbro packs up Takara won't make full lines themselves more so since they are having money troubles atm. It would just be MP and third party. And most of 3rd Party is just MP inspired
>>
>>6621773
>forget why they wanted it so bad earlier in the series though.
I was looking at them and I can see why. Despite Springer being the more popular character and the mold being designed for him in the first place, Sandstorm just seem like a lot more fun.
>>
So if Dreadwind and Darkwing are marketed as limbs for starscream, who will the other limbs be? I'm asking because I need two more to make a dedicated galvatronus team.

As a guy with then in hand, It comes down to making amateur mistakes while raising the price. I don't expect elbows that go 359 degrees, ab crunches, or even ankles. But I do expect the head to able to move to the side, and Slug can't manage that. It looks the part of a modern G1 figure, but it barely plays any better. All the gold paint and G1 accuracy won't change the fact that the Dino mode is a step above a brick and robot mode articulation is hindered by it as well.

Like everyone was saying when the line was unveiled, they should have known to at least put the dino head on a swivel so the robot mode one could be used. They should have figured out a way to tuck the tail bits in better so he could a 90 degree knee bend, something every CW deluxe could do. They should have done something more with the hind legs so they could move outward so the dino mode could get more dynamic. But they didn't, and now they expect more money for it. If I wanted something that looked nice on a display, I'd print out a picture of the toy, but I want to actually manipulate it.
>>
>>6622059
That would be shitty
>>
>>6622070
If I remember correctly all the extra limbs and torsos in this line aren't gonna have dedicated teams in order to push the mix and match gimmick of combining figures

European Diaclone does have some lore, actually. They even had a couple of French comics with some surprisingly great art.

I'm just wondering because the artwork for starscream has dreadwind as an arm, what the entire drawing looks like

>Human Alliance toys which were sold for under $20
Fake news. Maybe on clearance, but they were easily $30+ everywhere I saw them.
>are much better than toys today that cost over $200.
This is some powerful delusion.
>>
>>6622068
Ok, that sounds bad. I thought they were on par with CW deluxes.
> while raising the price
How much they cost in the states? Because in my country deluxes are around 25€.

I mean, he's not wrong there, I'd rather have a HA Bumblebee or Jazz over a shitty CW Devastator any day. There's a reason as to why those are appreciating to such an absurd point nowadays.
>>
>>6622081
I think Hasbro said the suggested retail price for CHUG would be 20$ nowadays. Which means we're basically doomed to get 30€ Deluxes, my fellow Eurobro.

They're 16.99 in American bucks. They are really not worth it. Jazz's shoulders alone are some of the most outdated shit I've seen on a Generations figure. The hinge makes most poses look like crap because his arms seem to float off his body. Plus his shoulder blocks are so big that they'll bump into his chest, causing them to easily pop off their unpinned hinges. Combine that with the fact that the chest hood is entirely clear plastic, and it's gong to be disasterous for any of the supposed kids these toys are made for.

It just seems like these figures compromised too much for things that don't really appeal to me. I'd gladly give up clear dino heads and windshields for solid engineering. All the paint in the world can't save a toy that's no fun to play with

So, this has just reached 310 pages, what if we wait until it reaches the image limit instead of urgently rushing to make a new one?
>>

I wonder why toy doesn't have sticky threads to explains how slow the board is what content should be in OPs. Maybe someone should ask for one in /qa/ since rules like that would only impact /tfg/ and /3pg/

Then again, making links in the OP a board rule might cause the guy that hates them to go full barneyfag on the board.

I think it could work better if we just refused to move to new threads before they even reach the image limit, whether they have links or not. I'm all for complete OPs but dealing with the constant influx of spam and rushed threads should be our top priority as a community.

o i am laffin. Don't pretend that linkfags don't also make new threads right away either.

Why would we do that?
Who even cares

Whoever gets to make the next thread, please write "REMEMBER TO ONLY MAKE A NEW THREAD WHEN THIS ONE EITHER GETS CLOSE TO 404OR REACHES THE IMAGE LIMIT" in the OP.

Titans Return could've been great if Hasbro could convince Goldner to lay off the Talmud for a second and put out a youtube series that kids could watch for free on their parents' tablets where they show how cool headmasters are before they learn about Dianauts and resent Hasbro forever.
But this is the same company that decided to fucking start production of a cartoon for Combiner Wars in the middle of the line's release, release it on a PPV platform nobody even knows about, and waste the cool factor of combiners just to show off a character whose toy was not only bad but also already two years old.
