Old thread (>>6698316) has begun to fade to nothing. Continue here.

With the Legends line coming to an end, what will Sakamoto-senpai do with the comic? Will we get a happy ending? No ending at all. Or End of Legendelion?
>>
>>6698812
>2018
>Takara still aren't cashing in on Sakamoto's comics making figures out of all the human TF waifus
True suffering. I'd buy a set of all the grills from these comics in either 1/12 scale or LG Targetmaster scale.
>>
>>6700350
Oh god, me too. I'd buy Microman-style figures DESU.
>>
>>6700311
No more Legends, so no more Japanese continuity.

They are still repackaging the Hasbro stuff into TF Generations: Pawaa obu za puraimu.

They are using oputimasu puraimu instead of Convoy just like their Bayverse line.
>>
>>6700354
I'm still holding out hope the line comes back, it went on hiatus while UW was out and a fair few CW figures ended up in the TAV line. I'm hoping that's what happens again, all the effort goes to the combiners, while all the other non-combiner or pretool/retools get dumped into their hasbro repack line until POTP is over.
>>
>>6700354
>finally getting brand parity so no more retarded fucking names like Convoy or Ginrai for Optimus
>unfortunately this would mean losing awesome names like Liokaiser and Deathsaurus probably
>>
>>6700360
Maybe we lose Deathsaurus, but hasbro released a Liokaiser recently
>>
>>6700360
I honestly hope Legends turns into a line just advertising toys Hasbro will never release. I know Hasbro will never make a Minerva, so they're my only shot at that.
>>
>>6700360
Japan hasn't used Convoy for their Primes since Animated.
>>
>>6700373
Can't Takara just do original stuff, or are they dead?

Hasbro still owns Transformers, so maybe Diaclone is Takara's only hope, at least for the oldies market.

They have Hatsune Miku supported Shinkelion for the kids.
>>
>>6700377
They can, but putting money into molds only they'll use still eats up their budget. It's why they only retooled some figures for the female decepticons instead of just making new ones back when Legends was still starting out.
>>
>>6700350
I kinda wish they'd make a line where each figure comes with Titanmaster sized human that you would be able to sit in the vehicle mode, like a Trailbreaker with sparkplug or a Starscream with dr arkeville.
>>

Takara doesn't have the funding to do more original stuff. It's why they are mostly retools/remolds of preexisting stuff except with Blastoff/Groove/Godbomber. But an entire original toyline requires a budget they dont have. And none of the funding sources in Japan want to give them money.

The last original thing they did was probably Transformers Go and that had funding from TV Magazine.
>>
>>6700377
>>6700503
Takara's budget for original Transformers stuff is all MP stuff. I'm sure they have money to make more, they're a toy company after all with their own original IPs, but it probably isn't worth it since transformers isn't that popular there.
>>
>>6700505
takara is in the red financially with buyouts looming. in theory just straight releasing the hasbro stuff for awhile rather than fixing it is part of an attempt to adjust course. you know to avoid getting bought outright by hasbro
>>
>>6700519
>Takara is in the red

There should be new Takara listings for June releases coming out soon. Hopefully it'll confirm whether or not UW is still continuing and they can throw better decos in there.

Yeah the Corvette MP mold isn't the line's proudest moment. Thankfully Road Rage (and occasionally tracks if there's a sale) are rightfully cheap.

It certainly doesn't help that Road Rage's remolds basically remove the locking position for the neck plate and make it harder to tab the doors into place in vehicle mode.

It's still a neat thing to have around, though.

I reall hope Jazz and Inferno are a sign that hasbro is going to redo the rest of the 84 and 85 bots. We could really use for some characters like Sideswipe and Tracks to get a figure of their dreamwave renditions since the Dreamwave era is woefully under-represented(if at all) in generations. I'm really not looking forward to Abominus and other non-vehicle bots because they destroy what made Transformers magic, and that's realistic vehicle modes.

That was how the toys were distributed. It was a time where it was hard to guess how much bad guys would sell compared to good guys, it was a major reason Marvel had Hasbro's bad guys dressed up so much better than the good guys was to get their sales on looks and popularity.

Animation today is generally much more fluid, consistent and realistic in its weight and motions compared that that shit, though. I mean, yeah there's some shit that's worse, but in general the animation itself is wayyy better in terms of the basic guidelines of good animation.

But I guess you geewunners just like to cling on to some arbitrary aspect of something (like diecast, or shading in this instance) and ignorantly insist that the presence of said aspect is direct indicator of inherent quality. Muh shading, indeed.

In some cases yes, in others fuck no. Shit, have you seen an episode of RiD? That shit is so choppy I feel like I'm having a seizure every time I've watched an episode. I'm not going to pretend G1 is any sort of good animation outside of a few episodes or a scene here or there, but a ton of shows these days are consistently fucking horrible in terms of both animation and detail.

US version has the worst combination of translucent plastic and stickers. Base figure is adequate, but the feet never stop looking weird and the wings are attached to the shoulders so that also gets a little odd looking.

Takara version fixes the sticker/clear plastic issue, but the toy is still a lousy Triplechanger and you're really buying him for the carrier and robot modes, not the jet.

God damn, what happened to cartoon voice acting? Everyone has a distinctive voice amplified to sound more than just a guy speaking into a mic like everything since Beast Wars.

While Beast Wars looks like shit now at the time it WAS one of the most expensive shows ever produced.

And I think this >>6700975 kid of delusion is actually on par with the Animated looking like the Japanese intro kind, if not more.

You know it's really funny.
When it was airing the big talking point was that Animateds name was ironic cause it was animated like shit, but people stuck around for the stories and characters. Well not Angry Archer but the robots and maybe Sari.
It's strange how there's a big push for "no it was well animated" now. I guess the kids who watched it growing up are now basically little G1ers..
I saved this image in 2008 the day the first episode aired Jesus Christ.

I'd argue that any non-g1/2 design for Car Robots/RID was pretty show to toy accurate. They recycled quite a few G1/2 toys though to pad out the show and line, and they definitely added to those in show to make them not look like bricks.
>>
>>6701174
Not that anon, but my problem with Animated is it looks like a DCAU cartoon, not like Transformers.
>>
>>6701192

I love the ideas behind animated, but Wyatt's style just doesn't appeal to me. It comes off as a deviantartist trying to ape Bruce Timm but never getting the proportions right or giving every face just too little detail or a giant chin.

I desperately want to like animated since the showrunners and toy designers were so close during production but the lazy altmodes and lanky bots just grate on me before too long.
>>
>>6701199
BW still looked like TF's to me. Animated's stuff looks too thin and spindly to me.
>>
>>6701196
Basically it was a show about padding out sales with a toy line of quite a few recycled designs repainted. Plus a lot of really fun new toys.

Fire Convoy is maybe my favorite Optimus.
>>
>>6701205
Yeah but like, Beast Wars, Beast Wars neo, the movies, RID, Prime, the animes, Animated.
They're all technically rather different looking from one another. Saying one "Doesn't look like Transformers" just seems antiquated now.
>>
>>6701196
Beast Wars II wasn't made to recycle toys, it was made as filler while BW made more episodes. They just used the opportunity to promote toys that didn't get used in BW. Neo, on the other hand, resorted to making new toys since they kind of exhausted most of the non show characters (and G2 molds that never got released over there), and they probably wanted the Transmetals to be a surprise when BW came back (which depressingly didn't work as well as they hoped).

RID was made on Takara's dime, so that one did pad things out with recycled toys.

The Japanese shows would keep things toy accurate to painful levels, including leaving screwholes and push buttons visible on the character models. Like how in Cybetron, Evac's character model actually has the little plunger you push in to make his rotors spin.

I watched it for the first time a couple of years ago, and some of it is extremely well animated. You can tell some of the early episodes were done by TMS, which is one of the best overseas animation companies that worked with major studios like Disney and WB in the '90s. While TFA's aesthetic was mostly that of simplified, jittery, old school anime, that doesn't mean it wasn't well animated.

Anyone who thinks TFA is worse animated than G1 just because of "muh shading" or "muh detail" is a moron who is incapable of discerning concept from execution.

G1 had very brief moments of nice animation like when Bluestreak transforms to vehicle mode chasing after Soundwave. But then you have scenes later in this clip that look janky as hell like Starscream's fucked up nosecone. But as far as consistent animation Animated was pretty good for the most part. They might sometimes get lazy with the transformation scenes but as far as 2D only TF series go it was good.

This video reminds me how much I loved the sound design in TFA- especially how they used small variations of the transformation sound. When Prime and RiD15 used it, it was the same tone all the time and it just wore down on me. Those variations make 20 minutes of transforming actually bearable. If this was a Prime or RID15 montage, I think I'd have to tap out after a minute.
Also I still very much like TFA, even if it wasn't peak animation throughout the entire series' run. The toys were fun, the cartoon was fun; I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Actually I prefer CW deluxes to forced partsforming blockheads. The only thing that sucked about CW was distribution and character selection. Doing the four pre-movie Scramble City sets right the first time would've freed up slots for an original combiner. The two Autobot car sets should've been MicroMaster teams with a base owner as the center. Victorion should've rebranded some MicroMasters as girls and tried harder with the sculpts.

>Hasbro still owns Transformers

They have NEVER owned Transformers, outside of US trademarks. They licensed from Takara then and Tomy now. This has always been the case, you dumb fucks.

Tomy even said right after they bought out Takara that they could take the brand away from Hasbro if they wished but as long as Hasbro kept it profitable they wouldn't do so.

Could Tomy sell TFs in the US directly if they ended the deal with Hasbro? They'd snag on various trademarked names most likely, but otherwise yes.

Only real issue is that Toy acts like they barely give a shit and just lets Hasbro have free reign for the most part. I do not believe Takara would have let Michael Bay make his version of the movies, they had a tighter control over the brand. Tomy is okay with pandering to the kiddie brands and niche market repaints and likely only bothers with MP because they can now sell it for a huge profit margin(3P taught them they can sell a $50 toy for $200) and many molds have also had a US release. Outside of Blast Off & Groove, how many unique molds did UW really get? Wildrider and Slingshot were repaints with new heads. Computron got remolds but nothing totally new.
>>
>>6701171
The initial art leak of Animated looked horrible. It was someone trying to mimic Bruce Timm but it looked rushed and simplified.

It looked like the TNBA episode art, which despite mostly good stories, the art was pretty damn weak.- and in fact very rushed because WB slashed the series budget massively and they didn't have time or money for the TAS art quality anymore. Sadly this low level of crap became acceptable because even with it, shows are still appealing to kids. Studios aren't going to spend $50K on a show when they can spend $3K and get the same success from it, basically.
>>
>>6701129
I'd watch the shit out of a show made with this engine
>>
>>6701210
CR had 10 unique molds, I believe. The rest was BW stuff Japan hadn't received yet plus dug out G1 and G2 molds. RID wasn't much better, no extra new molds and even more recycled molds to pad things out.

>>6701273
I've seen plenty of examples over the past 10-15 years that proves "the public" are idiots. I do not care what they think, so long as they aren't making the decisions. Seriously, if Bay ran for president and his ONLY political promises were "I'm Michael Bay" repeated every time he was asked, they'd still vote for him.

I'm okay only if it's from rodimus, not optimus.

Eh, i dunno. Doesnt make a lot of sense. Remember that rid is finishing, being replaced with cyberverse. They don't want to reset all three of their lines (bb movie) at once.

They should be.

Not from any credible sources. The usual guys who have access to the TRU databases have not reported this.
>>
>>6701208
Beast Wars stuff was still mostly normal Cybertronian body design underneath the animal parts, excluding some of the more monstrous characters and the Transmetals.

I heard Cyberverse is gonna replace POTP.

All of this is true. Hasbro is shifting to a shorter cycle since Generations is now split between the G1 redeux and the Studio Series lines. What we got as "Warriors" in RID will now be part of Generations as well, so they're bigger than the RID toys. Basically, retailers dont want three separate lines of standard toys and two separate lines of kid's gimmick toys, Cyberverse and the movie stuff.

So Generations will be the branding for ALL of the standard style Transformers. The gimmick stuff will all share their own marketing style.

That does mean that each subseries will be shorter than before. Next year's Generations will have 3 waves of the G1 Redeux, 2 waves of movie toys and 2 waves of Cyberverse "warriors". They'll all be split across the various size classes. Generations get the smallest scales, plus the Titan class. Movie and G1 will split the Leaders scale. Deluxe and Voyager will be split between the three series.

Don't ask me about the gimmick toys. That's a different design team.
>>
>>6701962

>do not believe Takara would have let Michael Bay make his version of the movies, they had a tighter control over the brand

Ahaha you actually believe this, don't you? Takara doesn't give a shit.
>>
>>6702051

>Generations get the smallest scales, plus the Titan class. Movie and G1 will split the Leaders scale. Deluxe and Voyager will be split between the three series.

So basically:

G1 redun: prime master class - titan class

Movie: deluxe - leader

Kids show: deluxe - voyager
>>
>>6702066

G1 redun has deluxes and voyagers. >>6702051
>>
>>6702075
He means Prime Masters through Titans, not just those two classes.
>>
>>6702037
Way overpriced for what he is
A grey glow of a headmaster. The only real perk is he has two seats for the TMs to ride in. Other than that he is really forgettable

This is honestly my favorite episode of G1. I remember actually owning the VHS of this episode.

Apeface got turned into Ape X Arms(which was based off of Optimal Optimus), although that was only available with Convobat.

Making a Wreckers Shelf

got a de-kibbled TR Krok and Mech Ideas' Piston standing in for Crankcase, going to order TR Misfire since my local stores skipped on him completely, then I have to figure out something for Spinister

Plus after fixing it with shapeways parts I've grown to enjoy Generations Blitzwing but I think I'd like him better as Flywheels, and since the TR Skytread head works for that, why not.

Cyberverse was originally rumored as the new gen line, before they made it clear that it was a show.
The show sounds like it's 11 min rehashes of previous tf plots. I wouldn't be surprised if it was bookended with bee and windblade loading up "history" vids.
>>
Is Krok good for $10 or is he just absolutely horrible

Hoping to find Hot Rod and Kup but I've only seen Quake, Krok, and Doublecross, along with some potp legends

Am I gonna have to order online
>>
>Amiami order arrives
>Slugslinger and MP Sunstreaker literally have identical sized boxes

I'm reminded of a comment Hasbro made ages ago, how box sizes for a given class are standardized and it usually resulted in planes selling better as their larger wing spans made the illusion of getting a bigger toy for the same value.
>>
>>6702240
$10 is the maximum he should be sold for.
>>
>>6702240
Krok is nice, but has the same loose hips problems as Skullcruncher

Also the rubberized teeth on the gator head dissolves the paint on his jaw so if you get him always leave the mouth slightly open
>>
>>6702252
>>6702255
>always leave the mouth slightly open
Okay no thanks

I can get deluxes for like $16 after tax
Should I get Quake? I don't have any deluxe or above sized Decepticons and it's sad

Alternatively I can wait and see if they go on clearance, because they're still put at the regular $20 price (Canada)
>>
>>6702240
I got him for 10 bucks a week ago or so. Once I tightened up all his joints, I think he was worth it. Especially unscrewing his gator feet so they can be flipped in bot mode. Much more stable.
>>
>>6702269
>always leave the mouth slightly open
You wouldn't have to worry about that on Krok, the rubber in his mouth doesn't touch any paint.
>>
>>6702269
>Should I get Quake?
Quake is great. One of the best molds in the line, and a pretty great bot, as long as you aren't bothered by how much he's just Hardhead.
>>
>>6702270
>tightened up all his joints
I don't think I own floor polish, I haven't seen pledge in my city either. How bad were the loose joints?

>>6702273
>the rubber in his mouth doesn't touch any paint
Wait what, then what was the rumour about the rubber bleeding paint? Didn't Banzai-tron have the same issue

>>6702278
I don't own Hardhead so that's assuring. My autism will bother me that there's no Needlenose and Spinister to make a "set". I'll watch some reviews for now I guess. How good was the Hardhead mold? It seemed to be universally loved

They claimed the broadcast masters that had been used on the VHS releases were not high quality enough for DVD, s they went for the original master copies.

Which were full of unfinished animation and even more coloring mistakes than what made it to air originally.
