Dx9 versus GT on animal bots. Who will win?
>>
>>6944329
It's hard to say about "winning" when at least for now there's no overlap. Do really like my Gorilla, and I'm looking forward to both Bull and Ancestrod.

Half of the problem for me is how they do the thing where the actual knee joint is above where the actual knee looks like it should be, and it makes the thigh too short and the shin too long.

As well there's just better looking ways of making a knee joint than a round hinge.

They have clunky shoulders, and sunstreaker's knees are tight to the point that they can crack at the back. I still love them, though.

I may the minority here, but I actually prefer the X-transbots version more.

DX9 is far too tall and the chest piece is so bland.... not to mention the price difference.

Okay yeah I see where they go now that he's together, but it doesn't seem very necessary and they restrict the shoulder articulation somewhat.

Now that that's figured out, god DAMN is this guy chunky.

And I thought it would be "clever" to try weighing all the limb bots to see which one is the lightest and thus the obvious candidate for gun mode, but yeah no too fucking heavy anyway. The sword is too big to hold too but I think I'll like it more if I split them into two small swords instead anyway.

I'm gonna waste all day on this guy I know it
>>
>>6944873
>making MP-12 look sorely outdated
Disagree. I'm in the same boat as those other guys who got so used to the wider chest that now the narrow version looks wrong. It matches up with Sunstreaker better, but I still think MP-12 has a better aesthetic overall.

>>6944876
And that's just terrible. Worse than the original MP-12 sculpt which proved you could make a face look good without trying to be specifically accurate to anything.

MFT is a Chinese KO company, despite them slapping Japanese text all over their packaging. They are rather aggressive with their KOing e.g. announcing their Diaclone/IF/DX9 KOs shortly after those companies reveal theirs, using official artwork for their stuff like they have no fear of legal troubles, packing bonuses (Powersuits) that are worth half of the toy's price, etc.

Quality-wise they are fine, but they have the same standard issues other quality-KO companies have, like poor nub marks and iffy tolerances.
>>
>>6944924
Yeah it's really just not a gimmick that works at an MP scale. Unless you want super strong ratchets things are just too heavy to hold by default.

I'm kind of tempted to try gutting out as many parts as I can out of one of them while leaving just enough to have a functional gun mode, just to see if I can make one light enough to hold. I doubt I'll ever be bored enough to try it, though.

Yeah, I'm just waiting on any US retailer to get the damn thing in already myself. Theres some other good Legends sized figures out there by other companies too. Mech Planets (?) The Hot Soldiers line is decent, and suuuuper cheap for 3P stuff. Unique Toys Palm Collection series if you like Headmasters, though it's utterly impossible to find their Chromedome/Weirdwolf pair. DX9's War In Pocket series is OK, but they're just not as good as the others. Mech Fans Toys does KO's of a lot of 3P stuff, and they have some upsized versions of figures, especially some that are harder to find like IF Sixshot and theres an NBK IF Overlord KO thats also oversized, and supposedly the quality is good on them.
>>
>>6944956
Oh shit, how is he? Been debating picking one up, just because my IF Overlord is kind of a manlet compared to current IF releases as he was made back when IF figures were a bit smaller than they are today.
>>
>>6944970
Oh, and I forgot to mention Magic Square, a new(?) company that is obviously not new, or is a front for another company. They showed up out of nowhere, and shat out like 20+ prototype pics. No figures released yet, but reviewers have gotten copies of their first figures, an Inferno and Grapple, and those at least look like they'll be solid, so hopefully when people get actual copies in hand they turn out good.
>>
>>6944737
They probably will. Especially now that XTB is raising the price to $70~$75 for the three other limbs.
>>
>>6944994
That hasn't been confirmed anywhere yet. The only stores that raised their prices are the ones that also sold the KO breakdown. So it could just be keith pulling a fanstoys and punishing retailers that sell KOs of his stuff.
>>

I managed somehow. You need to pick a member and fanmode them into a gun like form and try having the combined mode hold them underslung or over the shoulder. I took cyberjaw and flipped him around so more of the mass was sitting on the forearm to help with the load. holding them at the very edge like a pistol does not work at all without stand support. I still had to use the extra joint pieces to help keep it in place and balancing is a fucking nightmare. Don't use the leg extenders like I did because it only causes more pain. The extenders along with the sword or the gun massively fucks up with balance. The knee cap things are garbage too.

There is no style in that badcube figure at all. Even the fucking feet are purely utilitarian, just nondescript wedges. Its nothing but engineering wank for people who need constant "improvements" onMPs and will constantly buy the same characters for all eternity.

N/M, saw the notes on your picture. Honestly, a double knee joint at both points you marked would be best. I feel like bending only at the point you mentioned would also look odd.
>>
>>6946340
>Its nothing but engineering wank for people who need constant "improvements" onMPs and will constantly buy the same characters for all eternity.
With Takara basically rebooting MPs again, I can understand why 3rd parties would jump into the mix to fill the needs of those who wants all their MPs to have the same aesthetic. I doubt Takara will go through the entire G1 cast again, and even if they do, it could take years. 3rd parties striking while the iron is hot.
>>
>>6946633
But that's what I mean. They're little guys so they're in scale with CHUG figures.

I prefer G1 to IDW crap, Bayformers or just "change for the sake of change".

This is one reason I'm probably goign to sell TFC Hercules. The Rage set makes it mostly G1 ut I'd still have to buy a $40 "made of sand" Shapeways thing to get the hip guns and while the combined mode + Rage set looks rather G1, the separate robot modes are all reedun. Toyworld Constructor is the only close one and it's $500+, the official CW toy was such a load of shit with tiny head and reedun Mixmaster with purple barrel because "some poorly drawn budget cartoon did it".

I'm more G1 toy than Shitbow cartoon. Tired of everyone celebrating simplified crap animation.

Still don't work lol

Considering the arms, thighs and giant elbow make up almost half of Scalor's weight, I'm starting to think the gun-too-heavy problem is less of a weight problem and more of a leverage problem, and that the main problem is how far all the weight sticks out.
>>
>>6947028
Although, with the barrel and tail removed it's light enough to BARELY be able to unstably hold Scalor as a gun.

Also I'm surprised by how much I like Tentakil as a limb. I don't like the arm mode and I thought the tentacles would be too clusterfucky as a leg, but I actually like how clusterfucky he is as a leg. It's a massive pain in the ass getting him on there though since you have to attach him to the body before you're actually done converting him.

I doubt takara is even doing anything with most of the G1 cars at this point, its been what, a year since the last car announcement with Sunstreaker, and he was the only new car mold of 2017. I think the original goal of doing all the 84/85 line up is long gone. I think KO companies and even 3Ps actually did affect Takara's bottom line to the point they now think its not worth pursuing licenses to make G1 carbots anymore and to focus on bigger, more popular characters and other lines that are harder to KO or who's licensing they already have, like movie and BW.
>>
>>6947090
I imagine they want or wanted to do more carbots, but hit a complete roadblock with licensing and just can't make anything else right now, which is why they're shifting to BW MPs I guess. I don't think anyone holds the rights to velociraptors.

All right, I'll spoonfeed ya.

If you want to preorder, but are weary of the damn high shipping and custom fees, there's 3 and Up like anon above mentioned. However, they are expensive and you still have to pay the taxes.

One place that I HEARD you can avoid customs is over there:
www.anime-export.com/index?prdcttype=all
Beware that the preorder time is VERY short, and you have to pay the price up front. Shipping will be additional charges once the thing is ready. However, they have the best prices and they sneak under customs. A friend paid MP-36 100$ less than me by buying from them.

If you are a fan of Maketoys, order their stuff directly from them. Great deals, and sneak under customs:
maketoys.jp/shop/

For older stuff, there's Mandrake. It's like a shopping center of Japanese geek shops. Usually great prices, and they all sneak under customs.

Why are Japan and American failing to make 3P? Maybe they are lacking in engineers and scientists?
>>
>>6947556

Because any big outfit would get your ass sued into the ground. Unofficial stuff scoots by because it's niche and China doesn't give a flying fuck.

Maketoys and Fansproject are Japanese and Singapore has MMC I think. Many designers are western to boot. All manufacturing is done in China anyway.

I feel like with how Hasbro's engineering and QC is going down the toilet lately, it's bizarre there aren't more 3Ps putting out upgrade kits.

PotP Pretenders with articulated arms, for instance. Or just an overall better Starscream, or a Grimlock with an actual good tail. The Volcanicus kits seem to add on all sorts of unnecessary bits instead of addressing the toy's actual failings.
>>
>>6947635
We're past the polish-a-turd phase of 3Ps. 3Ps can make their own figures now, KO companies can reverse engineer and add in their own modifications. The only upgrades you'd find are small-run 3D-printed ones.

If you could have it be as posable as a he-man classics figure, that would be fine. Especially if it was softer plastic for flesh bits with harder plastic or metal for robot bits.

I would even be good with them. Around the size of MP-10 if they could pull off this hinge layering that would be needed to invert human and robot shapes.

Well, they are both completely different sizes and aesthetics. There really isn't too much comparison between this and the MTCD one other than "Yeah, it's a Jetfire".

Anyway, the first thing I noticed with this thing was no fucked up tolerances. Everything seems smooth. Maybe a tad looser than I'd like, but then again I prefer things a bit on the tighter side. Nothing is actually loose, I'll just say. The articulation is great, the figure looks great, it's just...All around great so far. The stiffest joint on the whole thing is the Valkyrie head, which I put on right away because I prefer that. I wonder if this is the herald of IF finally fixing their tolerance issues, but I'd have to see more products down the line to see if it's just this release having better tolerances, or if this is going to be a thing from now on. I've yet to transform it, that'll be the next thing I do.

Also just to note, but I had thought the pictures for him showed a pointing hand for the left side, not the right, but he just has the same hand arrangement as IF's Dai Atlas. Not a bad thing, just I had thought maybe they sculpted a left pointer to go with their right.

You don't even need to wait to see if it's good. The retards made their Arcee's legs out of diecast entirely. She'll be a floppy piece of shit with chipped paint jobs all over her legs in under a week.
>>

Not necessarily. I've got the SoC SPEC Eva-01 (Renewal version) and large chunks of the legs are diecast. She's also one of the best toys I've ever owned despite being over 10 years old at this point.

Easy enough to transform, looks pretty good. No tightness issues with the transformation either. All in all, probably the best toleranced IF figure I've ever had. Also the jet nozzles on back of his giant engine-gun-things are ball jointed, and he actually has wheels on all of his landing gear, it's not a fake solid piece like most figure's landing gears. For you guys that hate partsforming, his arm guns have to be taken off and turned around, and you've gotta plug his big-ass rifle into the bottom of him. Boo hoo, -57/10, worst figure ever.

Also comes with the obligatory flight stand you probably have a thousand of by now if you've been buying IF figures, and an adaptor piece for his jet mode, and all the same extra hands that came with Dai Atlas (two closed fists, two sprawled open hands, a dubs checking finger, plus the two open fists for holding weapons).

Yeah, your pics suck. break your camera and delet your pictures. But seriously though, have you looked into potential backdrops? Maybe see if you can fit some iron deck panels in your photo set. Back to Stray, I think that he’a the strongest of all the molds. Fitting as he’s the most popular character, but the chest and head just strike the right balance of lithe and beef. I’d personally rank them
Stray>Aero Alpha>Aeter Beta
All worth getting, but it definitely plays better as a sword using figure.
>>
>>6948462
I hope someday I can intentionally take pictures like this.
>>
>>6948463
Also glad that they fixed the large sword sheathe. It’s loose enough for the sword to go all the way through without any scratches, though it is a bit wobbly because of it. That does mean it gets out of the way of the skirt flaps, so it gets a pass from me.
>>
>>6948468
I’m glad these figures got completey revamped the way they did. They’re chunky, dynamic, and a dream to pose, all while having a unique personality.
>>
>>6948475
MMC gets quite a bit of flak for Hasbro tier mold reuse, and it’s warranted, but at least in this case, it’s justifiable. I can’t speak for those wanting comic accuracy, but I do love these figs as fun toy representations of the characters. If all their reformatted figures follow this aesthetic, maintain this level of articulation, and hopefully don’t get more expensive, then I look forward to seeing what they do next.
>>
>>6948479
Might I suggest a Dai Atlas? Might as well complete the quartet. Don’t know how the scale would work though, but based on the IF figs, it might have to be overlord sized to be properly sized.
>>
>>6948483
Also Iron Factory should just straight up do a new Drift and Deadlock with a Wing retool from them. Sword of Defender feels just too good to be in the same line as the older IF figs, and I think that they can manage better molds, and especially altmodes, now that they’re in their 2.0 phase.

It sure would be nice if they'd stop spitting out prototypes and start spitting out finished products though. Like, OK, we get it, you're obviously another 3P company doing Legends figures under a new name, you've got a TON of stuff shown already, now how 'bout finishing some of it and getting it into my fat greedy hands already?

how's dealing with RK? do they do tier-rate shipping? do they let you order a bunch of stuff and wait to ship till it's all ready?

Oh, so now they want me to buy Cosmo Battles as well, huh? They sure know how to cross-sell with play pattern.
>>

Cross play is a good thing because the toy barely transforms into anything. >>6949264 is like a dude with dismembered limbs arranged into some ritualistic pattern by the White Walkers.

Here's the shipping choices for US shipping for the three pack. Comes out to the total of what your paying at US retailers before they kick in shipping.

Thats how Omega Supreme always works though. His arms form a rocket, head forms a tank, and the rest of his is just kinda there, serving as a rocket platform. I mean, theres not much you can really do with the concept other than maybe make the body more rocket platform-ey of a launch center.

I'd imagine they're waiting on the production runs to finish and showing off new stuff in the meantime.

Got El Cid in the mail yesterday and holy shit it's bad. I think that's the worst figure I ever handled in my life. Nothing about it feels right, parts keep poping and falling off, transformation is an incredible mess (first time I ever gave up transformating a figure and I'm someone who likes MP Meg and ROTF Leader Prime) with bad engineering/tolerance that chips paint and scratches plastic, tons of fragile parts everywhere. Fuck, the thing doesn't even look good in person.

I'm really disappointed that's the only one based on the AOE look (UT and BM are based on the TLK look) because I like this look a lot but this is truly an abominable toy.

Is it a funky testshot or the final retarded deco?

That looks intuitive and solid.
UT really stepped up their game. Their first releases had good quality but KO-like looks and super simple, sometime reused/copied, engineering. It's crazy to think they're now able to make incredible stuff like this and Peru Kill.
>>
>>6950584
I don't like the knight version of movie Prime but shit, that's actually really impressive. It's basically just hiding most of the alt mode shell like the other one did but the way it goes about it is a lot more elegant and intuitive and doesn't require a fuckload of tiny hinges and seems all over the alt mode body to accomplish it like the other one did. It's tempting just from the standpoint of how well it was pulled off even though I don't like the design it's based off of.

That's not the Studio Series one. It's a heavy retool of the movie 1 leader figure with better proportions and an arm mounted turret.

I broke down and bought them. Very impressed, much better than I expected them to be somehow - even the box is a cut above, maybe the sturdiest toy packaging I've ever seen.
>>
>>6944873
Looking at this image again I have to say I still think MP-12 is the best-looking toy on that table. I miss Hasui.
>>
>>6950782
I still think a better chestplate alone could have saved Sunstreaker. Overall it's not great but those gaping gaps and visible hinges just look so terrible.

Also being 70$ instead of 290$. That would have been nice.
>>
>>6950796
Why they didn't just use the existing car windows is beyond me. Cartoon accuracy is one thing, but if it actually makes the toy uglier and less functional in the process what's the point? The head is so slavish to the old Sunbow art it makes him look as if he has Down's Syndrome. If the Cordon repaint is anything to go by they'll probably fix that mistake next year but only if you're willing to pay twice as much again for a "toy-style" version.

Shoulders, forearms, skirt armor and some details here and there.
>>
>>6950584

UT's movie stuff isn't the most accurate or maybe even the most articulate but goddamn with this and Lockdown their movie line is all about mastering inside out transformations to make a clean as fuck robot while entirely bypassing clusterfuck transformations. They have my admiration for that.

There's one other prime that looks impressive that isn't the Ayy attack. It makes the truck mode beefy, panel city, and stylized but the robot mode was THICC. Anyone have the company name for that? There were comparisons to alien attack and UT's.

it's a mashup of the old leader and the studio series figure.
>>
>>6950584
I bet 3Ps could make an AOE Galvatron that isn't a blatant shellformer.
>>
>>6951010
No it's just an oversized retooled Leader. The SS is way too recent for inspiring anything already getting a testshot.

Theres only two. Iron Factory's and DX9's, and you can easily tell them apart because the IF looks like IDW stuff and DX9's looks like G1 stuff.
>>
>>6951037
dude. look at the SS thing, and look at that. you have to be fucking blind to not see the stuff they yoinked.
>>
>>6951010
If by mashup you mean "It's the old Leader retooled to be more accurate, like how the new Studio Series are more accurate" then yes?
>>
>>6951172
The only similarities I see between this and the SS Brawl is maybe the shoulder mounted missiles, every other element shares the same molding of the original leader.

Hasn't that Brawl been in the works for fucking long time now? I seem to recall shots a few years back of a Leader (or maybe bigger) sized third party Brawl with those same treads and it looks like it was basically the same kind of treatment Hound got, where they clearly based it on the Hasbro Leader but retooled the fuck out of it to make it better.
>>
>>6950557
That's too bad. It really is a nice looking figure, at least in pictures, but everyone is saying it's a fiddly, floppy mess.

Yes but some people thinks making toys is only a matters of weeks.
