Thanks for the new thread OP, just what I needed.

I'm a Eurocuck who has finally had a stroke of luck; I live in one of the shithole countries that has a giveaway for the limited edition T.Rex (500 copies worldwide).

The local chain of toy stores is giving away a hundred; in order to enter, you must buy a set (pic related), fill in your receipt number online, and tell them in 250 characters or less why you should win.

That last bit is the problem for me, as I am a 25 year old cunt who just wants to flip the T.Rex for a thousand bucks on cracklink (just like how I will flip 75932 in a few years for a profit, it was 15% off even). Hence, /lg/, I was hoping you lot have some inspiration as to what to say in those 250 characters.

All I got so far is roleplaying as a kid saying yellow is my fave colour and this trex is the only yellow dino. Should I stick to the roleplay, or try something witty?

If I win and flip it, I get to invet in my Klocki collection, rather than some kid winning it, drooling it all over, and selling/losing bits and pieces over the years.

This is solid advice but I wanna hit you with an idea regarding the tan colorscheme. An idea that popped in my head was the colors of the stones of the proposed planet they'd be on. Rock Raiders did brown, and Power Miners did dark bley. What if, and this is to go with the pink crystals, the stones/setpieces consisted of lavender parts? I'm just thinking in terms of the tan going against the hypothetical terrain moreso than olive.

I'm starting a collection of Lego Star Wars ships. Since there are so many, which ones are worth getting? For example, I own pic related but it would seem that the newer V-wing is better, right?

That is probably the safe bet: midcentury modern furnishings with some studded surfaces that will allow children to build upon them. Possibly red and/or yellow. It would be kind of neat if Ikea would make some furniture inspired by classic Lego sets. I would have done just about anything for a bed shaped like the Galaxy Explorer as a kid.

I would probably drop some cash on a Lego set based on the Ikea catalog.

Doing it for every S5 knight I get. I have great gold paint which matches exactly with lego's gold (the shinier one, like on new shield powers) color.

I just can not accept the fact they left visors trans-orange instead of gold, when:
Year 1 - silver visors
Year 2 - trans-orange visors
Year 3 - year 3 - full gold armor... I expected golden visors as well

1. Just because they're listed as out of stock on the website doesn't mean they're actually out of stock. Speaking to a rep via telephone usually works better than ordering online.

2. They might not be listed in stock yet because the set isn't released. Wait until it's in stores and check again.

>>6987214
Did you have to buy extra pieces to give it the Roman Centurion look, or does the set have enough pieces?

I really like that one as well. The angles just fit so beautifully together when you finally assemble the hull plates. It's also nice that you can open it up completely and then enjoy the satisfaction when everything fits back together seamlessly. They should have included a build for a stand with the model though, so you can display it with wings folded down right out of the box,

Genuine questions here.

Do you think with TLM2 coming out that there will be an influx of new AFOLs like with the first movie?

Are you a genuine AFOL yourself? Like I mean it makes no difference to you if its a SW set or a new modular due to your love of the brick? Or are you a poser normie who's just going with what's trendy? I'm a lifer personally.

I'm actually very curious because /lg/ moves at the speed of light and I'd love to know how many of you besides Jang or Funtron or LQ are true fans of TLG or just faking the funk.

Firstly, there's a lot less skill involved when you make fuckhuge builds. Shaping, greebling, and detailing all become childs-play when you have no limitations on the size you're working at. It's a lot more challenging and satisfying to see builders working around a smaller build volume and trying to find creative ways to manipulate parts and connections to suit the needs. Rather than 'this thing is so fucking big I can basically use whatever parts I want and it'll look fine no matter what.'

Secondly, ldd adds a whole new layer of no skill involvement. You can freely ignore part availability and their color-availability, as well as build weight, connection strength, joint friction, gravity distribution and the cost of the build. I mean according to ldd you'd have no problem supporting the entire weight of that build by a single 1x1 stud. Ldd is an amazing tool but really it's best suited for prototyping for real life builds.

I don't even dislike the her but honestly it's hard to be 'wowed' by her when the most impressive thing about the build is how long it's taken to come close to being finished.

There's absolutely no reason that a large build can't work as many details and challenging connections into its volumes as you would in a smaller build. I feel like that's a better criticism for Nathan Sawaya and his ilk, who do nothing but stack lots of 2x4s because it sort of looks like something at large scale.

Buying parts for builds is an exercise in wealth, nothing more. The physics concerns are valid but uninteresting - I built physically before LDD and most of those builds would have fallen apart too, because I prioritise aesthetics over playability. Displaying models is less interesting than the building process itself, which is assembling a puzzle with only a mental thumbnail of the result as reference.

Spoken like true brainlets. It takes almost no effort to shit out an ldd build where half the pieces are barely connected and the build would disintegrate under its own weight. Come back when you you know how to build something that's compatible with the 3rd dimension.

>>
>>6990458

Not that anon, but I respect that approach.
For me it's more a case of aesthetics aren't all that interesting if it doesn't also have solid structural integrity to back it up. If I see a cool design and build from a glance and then spot some spotty, illegal, unstable or impossible connections it really detracts from the build for me.
I also like to draw from time to time and there I feel like I can do everything without explanation. But in Lego-form I enjoy both the building as the actual physical toy part. I guess I'm more the guy that plays and vrooms around his cars with minifigs riding on them a lot. Manipulating your builds in hand is just as satisfying as having really good pictures of them. When both are good it feels even better.

You're probably meming, but to answer your question about the influx of Lego newfriends:
The first movie had a big surge of new people, the movie was considered a novelty as big lego movies in theatre didn't happen until then like they did with TLM. TLM2 will be the fourth Lego movie after TLM, Batmans and Ninjago, so the novelty wore off a bit.
I think the Batman movie pulled in some more people? But that was also riding on the popularity of Batman in the more adult and young adult age demographic. Since only kids and die-hard Afols really give a shit about Ninjago the effect of that movie didn't really show.
I think because this is a direct-sequel to the original it will maybe make some more people come back young-adult and adult ages. The original really was targeted to right into the nostlagia of different generations of Lego. It depends on how good the movie will be, but people that liked the original but weren't hardcore enough to see batman and Ninjago might get interested again.
>>
>>6990503
Nice giant grey square. You're now officially qualified to design Star Wars sets. Look, I don't doubt you're a good builder. It just seems like a waste of time to me building things that can't be made with physical bricks.

You ever finish this space ship you were building? Or did gravity not allow you to?
>>
>>6990458
>There's absolutely no reason that a large build can't work as many details and challenging connections into its volumes as you would in a smaller build
True, but let's be honest, it rarely happens. A lot of big builds are impressive because of their size, not because of their techniques. And the bigger the build, the easier it becomes to overlook little details that don't look good. It's simple, a bigger build doesn't have to be as perfect and precise as a smaller one.
One build that breaks that rule is The Ugly Duckling from Blake Foster, fucking love that thing

>I feel like that's a better criticism for Nathan Sawaya and his ilk, who do nothing but stack lots of 2x4s because it sort of looks like something at large scale
Wholeheartedly agree with this though, I really don't like his style, it's just really simple but he seems kind of pretentious about it. He's the only one in the Lego fan scene I would call exclusively normie bait

TLM brought me to these threads and out of my dark ages. I have stayed ever since and naturally, I've purchased way more klocki in these years than I had as a kid.
I think that if any of the movies actually pull you into buying sets you inevitably end up getting into the hobby, be it your first time ever or back from your dark ages. The rest just saw those movies as "heh, that was kinda fun", some of them will meme "Everything is awesome" for a while and that's it.

The filter will be the klocki purchases, and this time it will depend on how well TLG designs their sets. So far it doesn't seem that they will get the versatility of the first movie, which allowed them to include castleshit and westernshit along with cityshit, which was one of the most appealing elements of TLM sets imo.
>>
>>6990528
Interested to see what they do with sets too.
Especially since Ninjago is already doing Madmax style thematics in the upcoming wave.

The sets of both the Lego Batman movie and the Ninjago movie were absolutely tippy-top tier though, so i'm cautiously optimistic. Most curious to see the minidoll spaceships, hopefully with excessive blue-silver(no chrome probably) and trans-glitter pieces.

Is Lego even a "trendy" thing? Can we really say that the single most popular toy in the world that's been a household name for about half a century, even in the years where it was economically struggling, is just a fad that comes and goes like movie franchises or Beanie Babies? Heck, I've never really cared that much about Lego until earlier this year after visiting some MOC exhibits and yet I still had my dose of City, Bionicles and Star Wars sets as a kid. The Danish block formula is pretty much an integral part of most childhoods in America and Europe, It feels weird to say they're a trend as if Legos have just now become a part of pop culture that people enjoy all of a sudden and will simply grow tired of in the near future.

I'm a little pissed that metallic blue got discontinued before it could have enough pieces to build it in that instead.

Gravity actually didn't hate the racer, but it's hard to assemble without tweezers(fits together but requires pressure from some weird angles to get all connections solid), plus I got caught up in a house move and haven't had the time to unbox it.

>>6990527

Considering I've spend 3+ years carefully iterating it, I'm pretty sure the techniques and precision alignments are up there. It /is/ hard to see since I have a capped image resolution of 1280x725 or 800x1205 with my screenshot method, so full-body shots don't show detail overly well.

I haven't bought a Technic set since the 90s since I haven't had a set really catch my eye and they look like only bigger models without moving functions like this. Do they still have working pistons and the like? That motor looks intriguing. Modern Technic looks like just a modern Model Team, or at least like they have no more mechanical functions than an average System set. Love that most System sets these days have that kind of engineering and effort put into them by the way, whether it's Nexo Knights, Elves, or whatever else.

I really don't discriminate against non Lego as long as they work adequately enough for me to make models. Mega Bloks and their figures are especially awesome. Their combination of posability, customisability and brick compatibility is all I'd ever want from a toy.

My current obsession is turning all the non Mega Bloks sets I have into Mega Bloks scaled Mocs.

The eternally-tormented spirits that Sophie Jones promised she would help get to the promised afterlife expended the last of their power helping us not be destroyed on our descent into the underworld and faded away before we were able to keep our promise to them.

They're the Archon of Infantilization, aka the 4juniors. One of the damned creations of Leg Slempt, the light of Godt hurts them, but unlike many of the other Archons, they made the conscious decision to play well. They were born to suffer and die and return to the darkness that never ends, but they had hoped that if we could hatch the Dragon Queen, she would be able to turn them into minifigs and make them eligible to enter into the Promised Legoland so they could ask Godt why He made them as He did.

They taught us that we can move freely about the Table and aren't bound by the implied restrictions of our set.

the series were somehow dark since the beginning, with the child abuse and the murderous back of a head and giant sneks kidnapping little girls, so please ellaborate on how the series got so much darker in the third book. Sure, the series get progressively darker with each book, but the change of aesthetics from the first 2 movies to the third one were dramatic due to changes in the filmmaking staff, rather than them turning 13. Had the director been the same for PoA, the aesthetics might have followed a similar pattern to SS and TCoS

While we're at it, 13 year olds are still awfully short, so the minifigs having short legs makes sense to me

I'm pretty obsessed with Mega Bloks figures to the point where I've lost interest in minifigs. They are well sculpted, brick compatible action figures with 14 interchangeable body parts and an average of 5 accessories attachable to the body. Its far more customisable than minfigs and more lego-like in that regard.

I'd never mix Mega blocks with Lego blocks in builds because you're right, they do feel and are textured differently.
However, I love the idea of making Lego/Cobi/Kazi etc vehicles and buildings for said figures. Their super posability allows for highly immersive interaction with your brick builds.

I'm only a modest brick builder and highly satisfied with what I have; but the idea of brick compatible weebshit like your pic related is something I really want. If Mega Construx ever made anime figures, my interest in klocki would turn into full blown autism. Since they haven't and probably won't ever, I am considering getting into Lego Elves.

Shaping has become alot easier with the small specialized sloped pieces Lego has been rolling out over the past few years. I fail to see what makes smaller builds more difficult to make.
As for micro builds, I haven't designed any myself so I wouldn't know how difficult they are to design. However those models tend to be too abstract a representation for my liking.

Two things that do strike me as extremely difficult would be:
-Incorporating technic or mechanical functions in a tiny build. Is it even possible to give a speed champions sized car turning wheels and suspension?
-Large Lego sculptures where both complex shaping and stability under the weight need to be considered and often, predicted.

I’m actually pretty pleased with how this came out. I was inspired by the other hover bikes I’ve seen on here but I only had this old chunky base to work with. Now I want to get some sleek ones in other colors. The white makes it look like space agency hardware or something. Two toning a primary color with the white could give the bodywork a sporty recreational look I think, but I don’t think I have all these spare parts in one same other color.
