Why not make MP-PMOP or Star Convoy?

>Robot mode is slavish reproduction of Sunbow character sheet thanks to absurd panelforming
>Truck mode is realistic at the expense of being a panel-ridden mess and having fake grill AND window abs in robot mode

Why didn't they just follow the Sunbow model for the vehicle mode as well? At the very least they could have lost the fake chest windows that way.

That's what I want to know. I was expecting a cartoon all the way Prime but guess it's still a cartoon robot mode and realistic alt mode still.
>>
>>6992243

Because that's what all the MP figures do. Even Megatron and Sunstreaker.

>>

>>6992258
How does making it the cartoon version of the truck stop them from having fake windows for the chest? You can see the windows change shape in the movie animation...
>>
>>6992228
>I wonder if they considered making a non-cartoon accurate thing while making the most stupidly cartoon accurate figures to ever exist
You're not smart.
>>
>>6992258
>guess it's still a cartoon robot mode and realistic alt mode still.
It's not even, though. That truck mode doesn't look anything like the real truck that Optimus Prime was based on. MP-10 was closer.

>>6992233
That's the new MP design direction. The entire alt. mode has to become kibble because otherwise it won't match muh cartoon 100%. I've never been bothered by one or two fake parts, but when almost every fucking piece of the alt mode hides away and gets replaced by a coordinating fake part in robot mode... that's almost not even a transformer anymore. That's just a robot figure and a toy truck that happen to be connected to each other.
>>
Meh. I'm really happy with MP 10 all these years later and I don't really need a cartoon accurate figure.
>>
>>6992273
Are you sure you're not just poor, anon? At first I didn't want one because I thought it looked like crap, but the kind anons here helped me realize that I'm just poor, and my destitution precludes me from being able to enjoy things like bad proportions, diapers, kibble backpacks, fake parts, and a truck mode that looks like a rickety piece of shit. Perhaps someday I will be wealthy and refined enough to appreciate such exquisite features, but not today.
>>
>>6992263
I don't see why not my dude.
>>
>>6992279
The line is more about being cartoon accurate than it was 5 years ago when they designed the first MP Ultra Magnus. Why in the flying fuck would they do a Magnus with an inner robot now if they didn't do it back then? The MP line is the cartoon now. If it wasn't like that in the cartoon, it won't be like that on the toy.

Is this the kind of selective blindness that affects all fanboys? Holy shit.

And I'll never understand the autism over the back of the truck. It's never going to look like a real truck back there, anyway, since on most trucks it's literally nothing but sparse framework, the axle and the fifth wheel hitch. If that minor improvement is going to be the one thing that fanboys are going to latch onto to try and prove the new truck mode is better than MP-10s, while completely ignoring the entire rest of the truck, it's gonna be pathetic.

We only have one picture of the new truck mode, and it really isn't that much better. The real rear deck of a semi truck doesn't go any higher than the wheels, but on the new one there is clearly about another half-tire-width of robot leg parts stacked on top. That's only marginally better than MP-10, if at all. And certainly not better enough to excuse literally the entire rest of the truck being shit.

I still prefer MP-10 to that, and cartoonfags are going to want more cartoon accuracy than that. I feel like that figure occupies a dangerous middle ground that doesn't really appeal to anyone. It's a better-looking effort than the offical V3, especially the truck mode, but anyone okay with that would probably just be okay with MP-10 and probably already owns it anyway.

The funny thing is that it's only the briefs and the hands that needs some extra kibble. As for the legs, the cartoon stretches and flattens those out so 100% cartoon accuracy is nigh-impossible, even if they follow official 3D models.
>>
>>6992474

>>6992480
The shame here is that even without cartoon accuracy on the table, MP-10 could definitely be updated. There's some obvious room for improvement in the leg area, although personally, I always liked seeing the wheels hanging off of his shins. The cartoon only got rid of them to streamline the models and make them easier to draw for the korean slaves. I think some kibble is a good thing and reminds you that you're holding a robot that used to be a truck. Really, the legs on the animation model may as well be from a non-transforming mecha. The chest and smokestacks are really the only parts that give you a clue that it's also a truck.
>>

The model is still based on it.

There are tons of details that go out of it's way to visually reference the original cartoon, like Menasor's transformation sequence. Even if it's not in continuity with any existing fiction it has most in common with the G1 cartoon. Only real exception is Nova Prime who is more of a teased entity than an active player.

>>
>>6993058
MP36 is for mostly the display/worshiping types. It's transformation is overly complicated and has at least two high risk points for breaking, the paint applications are on friction areas too which adds to the issues. That means you can't really fiddle with it nor transform it a lot without causing a lot of issues. For it's questionable price tag of $170ish it's beyond insulting. But You have people that want a official G1 Megs so bad they will throw to much money on something so poorly built/planned .

complex designs to mimic simple cartoon drawings, instead of making things that look worth the money with fewer necessary parts.

At this point, if they ever did release a Masterpiece Devastator, it would cost way more than Toyworld Constructor which already is essentially MP Devastator, then they would ditch details and ignore G1 toy accuracy to make it look like a shit cartoon where he had no features.

I just thought of how they could do this. For MP Devastator would have Legends/Deluxe sized components that look decently show accurate and combine like the normal toy. >>
>>6993273
It’s a numbers and distribution thing. The whole run of Beast Gorirra is about 1/6th what’s manufactured in just a leader wave of Hasbro’s Transformers. They are too big to down size to just the collectors market (or rather you get the Matty Club hell) and to meet what Walmart, Target, Amazon asks of them they have to produce a massive amount of product. They are also trying to aim at kids/teens to sell their market brand too. I mean that’s how Third Party came about was their was a small collectors market and crazy people willing to manufacture small runs of toys that only get them about a 30% profit from.
>>
>>6993273
Because mainline releases are for the general public and 3p are for the niche hardcore community?

You're literally comparing a toy that is marketed to kids that needs parents to justify their price before getting to a line for 30+ man-babies who still collect toys cause of nostalgia.

Are these good figures, or are you trying to meme one over me again? You hated TR Kup but now you like it, so I'm still trying to find one, you see. Can someone who owns the figure(s) give me the pros/cons for someone who's indifferent about the movie and any gimmicks? Dorito Starscream looks very comffy albeit. Please help, I just want to fill my loneliness with a new plastic friend and I don't want to be faced with too much disappointment,
>>
>>6993286
For starters it’s less than a 100 IPs a thread and there is constant samefagging so consider things like TR Kup’s popularity being when a lonely NEET is that thirsty for (You)s
As for your question SS is good but TC has the oddity of the removable head that may or may not bother you and he has a good amount more kibble. Both figures are fine overall.
>>
>>6993286
It really depends on your taste, usually the people in these threads are trolling or hating cause they can't afford to buy the item. The Studio Series SS doesn't really have any cons since it's like the voyager class from DOTM or something but made to scale for the new SS line and Thundercracker is pretty much a Nitro Zeus from TR5 with just a different head from what I remember and that is a very popular mold. IF you can get them both for like $20 with coupons, just do it.

I could possibly stack the other first or second coupons depending on the person working. Idk what other voyagers they have in stock for me to use b2g1, unless there's promising studio voyagers in the later wave.

I'm writing my addendum before these kindly responses above me

>>6993292
I realized that I was a fan of Marvel Kup, once people started making the relation. Before it was mostly "toy accuracy bleh". I have more investment for SS bc dorito and movie, I'm again indifferent about the headmaster gimmick. What's the posability/aesthetic/etc about SS though? Is he posable moreso than how he looks (i.e. shit, but in a lovable way)?

>>6993293
I'm in Canada so I really should be the angriest, but we have sales now and then so I'm not too madbad. I also own no movie figures, like ever. People memed dorito in a very comfy way though. Is he even posable..?

-Victorion is still dead.

Yes, if you remove the smaller Primal's backpack, so then it literally just is an action master. Or maybe a badgeformer or some shit.

I used a precision flat-head screwdriver + a mallet. Pin/hole diameter is about 2mm. You need to identify the side of the pin with the knurling that locks it in. It's the side you want the pin to come out from, usually the pin is flush with the surface on this side.

>>

Transmetal alt-modes weren’t meant to be actual disguises, just new forms of playability. It’s like Track’s flying car mode, or all the attack modes that are just some guns tacked onto a car.

>>
>>6993613
Posts like this are how I can tell someone just never knew how to play with toys. The alt-modes weren't meant to be anymore convincing a disguise than Cheetor being a cat with jets or Rampage being a mutilated crab with a turret sticking out. It just gave you new ways to play witht he toy. Op Op was big and you could easily hold basic Preds in his hands, so you could have him go all feral in ape mode. The tank mode was actually solidly put together, perfect for loading up with basics and deluxes and having them ride on Optimus for a trip to the battlefield. The jetmode was admittedly the weakest one, but the wingspan was very impressive and there's something very cool as a kid about a jet that can punch things. And the robot mode is a cool, then modern version of classic Transformer supersized leaders like Ultra Magnus or Star convoy, with the huge shoulder pauldrons

I wouldn't mind 3P company Perfect Effect making one.He had that body for half the show and only changed it in the last 3 1/2 episodesso its a very iconic look to him. They'd probably miss the subtleties like the beast chest being meant to be an organic manifestation of his beast mode or the general organic texturing on the helmet and limbs, but I'd be happy with the general design, just bigger and more articulated.

>>
>>6993691
I always thought that was his weakest look as a kid, but I've come aroudn to it. Is till wish he used dark grey and red as secondary colors rather than brown and silver so he felt closer to his original Ultra body(one thing I dislike is how Primal ditched his main colors after his first body. They could never decide what color to make him) But I appreciate it more now. Its a very solid figure that manages to do some neat and satisfying transformation steps, and the articulation is solid.

Though, as much as I like to remind people of the organic element of the transmetals, the hairy Optimus helmet and ape face always felt weird to me.

I really like that transformation on this one. It's so simple but satisfying. The way the back changes places and the sides of the gorilla turn into robot shoulderpads is genius.
>>
>>6993711
I agree, I do think the punch jet is really cool. I like to think on Cybertron they had jets like that for ramming into barriers;not necessarily fists of course but some sort of ramming weapon. If I ever do anything Beast wars related I'd like to show how on Cybertron there are more fully realized versions of those transmetal modes as regular alt-modes and vehicles; like you see a cybertronian jet with cheetor's boosters and another with Megatron's VTOLs that uses "skates" as landing gears, or little buggy cars that are similar to rattrap's vehicle mode or Tarantulas' cycle mode.

So we have multiple transformers lines for different age groups, but lets skip the rescue bots tier and go straight for the big bois, generations and masterpiece, aside from presents for kids and the odd impulse this is where we are at thread wise if I'm not mistake outside of older toys we just haven't let go.

But would we like an inbetween line, higher end in terms of paint apps and sculpt than generations, but more budget friendly than masterpiece, one that did something different to the others.

I would honestly like to see a line like this, say a classics reboot line where they take existing characters and just give them new alt modes that still homage what they're known for (prime as a truck but as a different truck for example), or even just a binaltech 2.0 line and just go full OC.

We love our childhood but it'd be nice if they did something special, give them diecast parts here and there and rubber tires but simpler and made with FUN transformations in mind that aren't just a couple of folding panels.

If has-tak aren't willing to sell these commercially just use TTmall/webshop format and just sell as per demand, with a minimum order count and then extend it as per demand (unless they want max profit and have them as limited edition products which can work too).

Or maybe I should just shut up and accept what I can buy in stores and takara and their mp rape prices before asking for more money sinks

Absolutely. Ape to robot is a very straightforward thing, so managing to do something unique with it was (and is) super cool.

I honestly wish the PotP OpOp smaller robot was colored like this Primal. It would make more sense, the colors would work better, and I wouldn't be nearly as bothered about him becoming a "hoverboard" since he's the one that used a board in the first place. Maybe I'll repaint him if I decide to get it.

I don't really care about diecast or rubber much, but I do wish we'd get a return to a line that's a little less gimmicky. Titans Return wasn't bad on that fold (though I didn't care for many of the line's figures regardless) but I like it a little more straightforward.

My dream line is a G3 (not counting Beast Wars) that gives us some new characters or a distinct aesthetic. Something as radical as Beast Wars was, or close. Arguably the movie lines at their height accomplished that. But I don't really care so long as the toys are well-made and fun. Lately the only figures hitting that mark for me are the legends class ones. I regret not exploring TR more thoroughly given how uninteresting POTP turned out to be for me. I'm not a doomsayer, though -- I fully expect a line to get my interest again.

>If the stickers were all flat in slight recesses, I would have far fewer problems with them.
Even then, they still look fucking awful. I've seen brand new figures still boxed in the stores with stickers crooked, wrinkled, or peeling off. And that shitty foil never looked good except on actual '80s toys
>>
>>6993892
I like the aesthetic of many of the stickers, I just wish they were tampographs instead.

You could put a matrix core from the leader matrix' in there, for a fucked up retelling of optimals creation.

Ocean Designs has done a set of their dry-transfer decals for PotP Optimus. They're basically the best thing you can do short of actual tampographs, they usually look very nice when applied. No idea if they're planning sets for more of the PotP characters, but it seems like they could make a lot of money fixing the corners that Hasbro cut.

I think I would've preferred a feral face-sculpt like that old one. Some light piping for the eyes would be nice too, the PotP one has a deep brow and you can't really photograph the eyes without shining lights directly into it.

>>6993911
Yeah if you like the OpOp gorilla and robot modes, and you don't care much for the vehicle modes, it's worth checking out.
>>

What I miss most about the old toy in that one is the brown gradients. It looks a bit plain without them.

Ah, okay. It's been a while since I handled the original.

Maybe you remember them being a tad shorted because they still can collapse a bit more too if you want.

Not many people seem to know about this transformation step, I remember explaining it here years ago. It wasn't in the instructions, but just a look at the back of the knees should make it easy to tell.

Get the TRU exclusive redeco of Cybertron Scourge. They redecorated it to be this character and its a better figure.

Yeah but it's not even remolded to be a Cerberus it's a straight repaint that doesn't really get the colors right anyways and that point you might as well just get Scourge since he actually has a good deco.

Sucks to live in the Caribbean. My Airraids white gun is notably a different color now, and CW ports that are white have started changing color.

Dark of the Moon Ark, and the various other Cyberverse bots that got little trailers and carriers.

I disagree. I think it looks pretty good in general, but either way it does a good job evoking the original toy. I always liked the original figure's head sculpt.

Different Canadian anon from last night but after that anon talked about some coupons and getting Studio Series Starscream and Thundercracker, I went to Toys R Us and they're doing that insane summer sale. Got both SS and ST for $38 Maple Dollars with taxes when it usually would cost $100 easy.

What are some obscure, weird or just plain stupid TF stuff you would legitimately want to see get a toy?
I seriously would love even cheap figures based on the ancient Autobots and Decepticons you see in the history record from Desertion of the Dinobots pt 2. Credit where it's due the designers did make an effort to design these guys different than the current gen of bots.

Floro Dery doesn't get enough love; he made the different generations of Transformers all look really different for the cartoon. ALpha Trion looked different from Optimus and company, and Hot Rod and the TFTM bots look very different, too. Dery's original designs still take cues from the diaclone stuff, but done differently.

Also, I want Big Red, and the Stop Light from Cybertron.

Some of the white ports changed color due to being attached to the torso. The parts connecting to the torso are now a different color.

Aside from that, the comboner not attached to the torso also changed color and are now a duller white, almost yellowish. The gun is not yellow, but I compared it to Airriaid and it's now a completely different shade of white, so unless it was cast another shade of white, it changed color.

They're not even exposed to sun, so this is a real bummer.

Studio series is basically generations but dedicated to the movie line, don't let those boxes and price markups fool you, look at voyager megatron and those hollow sections and lack of paint
>>6993846
The fact is generations type lines are aimed at kids and thus some sort of gimmick is a must

I'm looking to get one Ratchet fig for myself but don't know the advantages or any particular line that is current. Can anyone e suggest the be all end all of Rachet Bot?
