Looks like they're using a metal wire for posing the Phenex's tail things:

https://tamashii.jp/special/gundam_natative/

May pass on this one since I've already got the Gundam Front Tokyo version (unless those tails are really cool in the anime), but glad this is getting a wider release. The gold paint job is wonderfully executed on the Gundam Front release.

Interesting. I was thinking it would just be 3/4 subsections connected with a basic ball joint.

This just makes me want a Barbatos Lupus Rex with the Tail Blade all the more now. Shame that's unlikely due to how hard the other IBO RD's seemed to shelfwarm.

Either way, extremely looking forward to the Phenex.

Sorry for the fuzziness of the picture (had to turn the ISO way up) but I hope this helps. Got the commander with both feet flat on the ground, while the grunt is splitting his legs as best as I could get them to show the full range possible.

I think it's a fantastic RD that nails the look of the MS. The only thing I would ding it for are the very tight joints in the hips/ankles out of the box, but they loosen up as you work 'em. If you're a fan of the Kai, then I highly recommend the RD.

>>7087286

Ok, cool. No really, I'm highly likely to buy it alongside the latest Unicorn RD, especially with my lingering regret over not picking up the GFF at a great price long ago.

But this means MRD Akatsuki is being announced after the Infinite Justice comes out, I hope (Murasame details too). Hell, throw in a word for Delta Plus and ECOAS since they have greater relation than simply being another golden MS.

And got in the VF-31S today! Wasn't a fan of Molder's color scheme; just seems very busy (would loved to have seen the 31 in black/yellow trim). In-hand, however, the scheme is much more appealing, thanks in-part to how cleanly the busy scheme was applied to the toy.

>>
How did the NT-1 turn out? I haven't bought an RD in a long time, and I'm itching for one.

I wish the ANIME line would start doing Zeta stuff already.
>>
>>7088283
Zenmarket has a much steeper fee so be aware. Theres the basic item fee, bank transfer fee, and some other shit. It'll probably end up being like 12% on the total including shipping so very high. I think it will usually end up being just shy of Nippon yasan or mykombini prices. Zenmarket is like 300 yen + 3 or 4% on the points transfer rate fee. So pretty low for expensive items. You're paying the premium for the low deposit
>>
>>7088331
Normally I would just wait for Mykombini, but they haven't carried P-bandai for a month or so, they don't even bother to push my orders to the 2nd batch like usual. Guess I should start getting used to paying more for p-bandai.
>>
>>7088386
NY and mykombini usually add the extra cost up front and/or on shipping. Middlemen are at worst about the same but possibly better. I got a huge order of gunplay from prj once and calculated it was like 60 dollars cheaper than NY because of shipping. But that was 60 dollars on like an 800 dollar order

>>7090605
While I don't have Char's Gelgoog, I was very happy with the grunt Gelgoog released earlier. Looks great and has plenty of articulation; my one gripe would be that the bell bottoms can get in the way of posing the Gelgoog's feet when you're going for dynamic grounded poses. You have a lot of range of motion at the ankle and you can easily achieve a stable pose thanks to how big the Gelgoog's feet are, but the bell bottoms may interfere with getting both feet flat on the ground. More an issue with the design of the MS itself rather than the figure, and of course it's a non-issue if you're going for space/flight poses.

Yeah, its a shame. I like 0079, but I would really like some stuff beyond it. At least on the bright side, they have to do something different soon since its done with original Mobile Suit Gundam. Hopefully we get some stuff beyond the OYW soon.

On one hand, I would welcome A.N.I.M.E Zeta stuff, since I would love a better Gundam Mk-II and Zeta Gundam, but on the other hand, some stuff like Qubeley and Rick Dias were perfect.

Qubeley, while limited by design in articulation, was a perfect Qubeley. I don't need a better one, and wanted the Ple versions.

Ex-S is also a very good-sized figure compared to your average RD!

>>7092613
I could see it happening. We've recently had a couple former exclusives see regular retail releases (Phenex, Ingram Unit 2), and in each case the retail release was differentiated from the exclusive by adding more stuff and/or making minor changes to the sculpt (ie TV vs. Movie Ingram).

Going by that trend, we could potentially see the MP Gelgoog released to retail in its entirety with the new accessories from Char's Gelgoog added in (though removal of the cannon parts is more plausible), but I agree with >>7092782 that the likelihood of that happening seems low. Just not impossible, haha.

I believe ANIME will eventually reach 0083, however, and I would bet we'd see a RD Gelgoog Marine at that time.
>>
>>7094583
I wonder what they'll do with Dendrobrium Orchis.
>>
>>7094583
I just bought the prototype RX-78 to go with the original. I like the mold so much even the armored version is beginning to tempt me, though I'm probably better off getting a new figure instead of blowing my wad on RX-78s.
>>
>>7092613
There's a kind of twisted logic to it being an exclusive, because if you think about it only Char's Gelgoog really did show up in any real prominence in the show, while the others wound up background fodder.

Gut instinct is that it'll be a web exclusive, of course, but the Dendrobrium is so iconic that I believe the complete unit has a chance at a regular retail release despite the considerable shelf space it'd take up. The most likely scenario, however, would probably be the Stamen as regular retail and the Orchis as web exclusive.

>>7094874
I can totally understand shying away at Full Armor RX-78's aftermarket price, but man, definitely keep an eye out for a reasonably priced one. Actually, I think I saw one in the BST... yea, there it is: >>7092979

$60 is pretty darn reasonable, and if you love the mold I'd STRONGLY suggest giving in to the temptation. The armor attachment is executed wonderfully and the spread of effect parts is superb. Just an excellent RD and well worth basically the original MSRP.

>>7094916
C'mon anon, you can't give Bandai leeway like that, they'll just make more stuff exclusive, haha. Can't disagree with your logic, though!
>>
>>7093799
have the Strike Freedom and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. Looks brilliant and poses great (especially on the action base) but it's missing that extra "oomph" to push it into spectacular territory.

I dunno, maybe I was hoping they'd redesign it a bit along the lines of the MB figure (which I missed out on) but there's nothing really wrong with it otherwise. If you dig the design, he's a safe buy.
>>
>>7095038
I ended up overpaying for it, but, I'm not disappointed.

I am disappointed that I've found it four places over for retail now, though. But maybe I'll just go back and buy a second.
>>
>>7093799
Second the EX-S whole-heartedly.
I don't have the Strike Freedom.. however I'm so happy with my 00 Raiser I might pick one up. Somehow they managed to do the gold in a way it didn't bother me as much as most renditions. At the end of the day mobile suits are still toy robots from a cartoons so I have to cut SF some slack for not being completely serious business in terms of appearance.
>>
>>7093799
I feel they are very overpriced considering metal builds don't cost that much more. The quality and finish on them is embarrassing in comparison.

Yea! If there's an RD worth paying a little extra for, it's the FA Gundam. It's really amazing it came with as much stuff as it did at its original MSRP.

>>7095761
Dang that Zeong looks great!

>>7096254
I can definitely understand that. You could buy three or four RDs for the price of one MB, and you don't really get three/four RDs worth of stuff with one MB (some come close though, haha). But dang, MBs are some lovely mecha figures. I agree with >>7096306 that if there's an MB of a design that you particularly enjoy and you've got the cash to spare, it's well worth picking up the MB to check the line out.

I don't know either. I have SRC Gurren Lagann and aside from the massive kneepads, I like that figure just fine.
>>
>>7096774
>>7096810
Probably hates the metal on metal joints they all seem to have. Anons around here are always bitching about them getting loose. Definitely a potential issue if you constantly mess with the joints but metal builds and metal robot spirits share the same sort of construction and no one seems to complain there so I dunno why SRCs get singled out for it.
>>
>>7096835
I dont have those lines, so I can't speak to how vulnerable the joints are to loosening.

That said I do wish Bandai would fold the IPs they do SRCs for into the RD line. I'm sure SRC has fans that wouldn't want that, though. Maybe I should just jump onto the SRC train; I'd like to have a Mazinger and Getter-1. No idea what's good and what isn't. I don't see them discussed here that regularly.
>>

My SRC Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and Shin Getter-1 did nothing but stand on a shelf for two years and their hips became wet noodles. That said, they seemed to fix this issue with some of the later releases in the line. Both of my Mazinkaizer SKLs are still fine for example.

Sentinel made a fantastic Getter-1 that seems to be about SRC sized (disclaimer, I've only seen SRCs in pictures). Includes a wired cloth cape, is fully painted, and has a decent amount of diecast construction. Articulation is excellent with most of the joints able to pull-out for additional range of motion. Sentinel's Getter-1 was available at clearance prices towards the ends of its run, so you may be able to pick one up for relatively cheap but you'd have to watch secondary sellers for one to come up for sale.

I checked Mandarake and they're sold out, also their pricing for previously sold Getters really ran the gamut ranging from 4,500JPY to 15,000JPY.

And here's a size comparison of Sentinel's Getter-1 with an RD. Also, if you're interested in a Mazinger, the Metal Build is absolutely awesome if that's a price/size range you're interested in.

>>7097025
Haha, the cutest!

>>7097478
Like around the collar area? That's what stood out to me as being gappy. I imagine, however, that the vertical left/right torso sections are able to angle inwards/outwards (similar to how those sections of the torso work on the ANIME Zaku) and what we're seeing in the video is simply those sections being angled outwards. Angling them inwards will likely close up the gap.
>>
>>7098270
The Sentinel looks pretty cool but I'm not sure it's cool enough for me to want it more than the significantly cheaper SRC which I notice you didn't mention. Does it suck or something?

Is NipponYasan a good place then besides that fiasco?
>>
>>7101728
Not that anon but NY couldn't fill many of their VF-31A orders when it was released. I don't think they ever gave an official reason why. To their credit they are still slowly sending out the Kairos to people who kept their pre-order as they get them in stock.

I never had much trouble with NY but they are usually my last resort to purchase from since they have terrible customer service. I've been trying out Mykombini for P-bandai and been liking them so far since they do the pay half now and half later thing.
>>
>>7101728
They are generally fine in regards to preorders, with exceptions like the Kairos thing that was mostly Bandai's fault anyway.

Its ordering old stock that is dicey. They seem to dropship everything that isn't new, so its very possible they won't be able to actually fulfill your order despite it still being listed as available on the site.

These mechas are great, my first Spirits figures. Would love to see Bandai doing Robor Spirits of Jägers from the first movie.
Pacific Rim ones are sized decently, but Gundam and the rest of the robots seem to be too small for my taste.
I kinda want them to fit in with all my 1/12 figures and be able to use them in different roles, like human-sized cyborgs, giant robots/mechas, Iron-Man-like suits or something.
>>
>>7101950
If you like these, I highly recommend the A.N.I.M.E. Gundam figures (unless you don't like Gundam.)

That being said, you might think the Pacific Rim figures are lacking after.
>>
>>7101974
Not him, but I have a few of the ANIME figures and I think the Pacific Rim figures are still pretty good for what you pay. The size, heft and articulation more than outweigh the cons (lack of paint apps).

If you are willing to do a bit of touch up then they look perfectly fine next to my other figures.
>>
>>7101974
As I said, most of the mechas in this line, like Gundams are too small for me. 13-14 cm aren't satisfying. Plus the price is sometimes unreasonably hign.
I also PO-ed Strelizia, wanna know how good she is gonna turn out to be.

Literally the only bad thing about this is the fact that this potential was never seen in the show and likely will never be animated - and I mean just this unit. I suppose it could show up in a future Gundam series with some modifications though. As it's a piloted thing (or you could pretend it's remotely controlled) it makes for a great adversary craft to any other MB figures or even a comedically large boss to any RD figures.

Okay Bandai, this would be a great time to give us that pack!

I'm well aware that it's quite simple compared to this MB-enhanced version, but nonetheless. And speaking of orange-coloured flying craft from the GS/GSD era, how about those Murasame? And on the note of ORB MS, the Akatsuki as the next MRD (announcement) once Infinite Justice launches!

Bandai would never be so "sensible" though.

This RX-78 is white with cobalt blue,so more in line with the RX-78 from the late 80s and early 90s.

I personally think this RX-78 is overpriced while the Zeong is generously priced for its size and accessories.

Maybe they are expecting higher sales volume of the Zeong and lower for the RX-78 so it balances out.

It's rather narrow and the fin bits that extend backwards end up bumping into the pointy bits on the back of Astray's head when you're trying to rotate the head. You can avoid the collar by having Astray look downwards and then rotating the head, but it would have been nice if the head could have lifted upwards slightly as Bandai has done on other figures.

>Only Robot Damashii I own is Soul of Chogokin GGG (I think thats Robot Damashii?)
Eh, close enough, haha. Robot Damashii and Soul of Chogokin are actually separate toy lines with RDs generally being highly articulated midrange priced toys (though the price is creeping up there) whereas SoC are premium high-end toys. Both made by Bandai though, and often associated with the Tamashii Nations tagline so it's all kinda within the same sphere.

A general criticism you may find about the Astray is that it's not as good as other Metal Builds. This criticism comes in part from the fact that Astray is pretty much the only MB that is mostly unpainted. MBs are usually completely painted with a matte finish, and while the Astray does many painted areas (and a very healthy amount of tampo detail), the white areas on Astray are nearly all unpainted plastic.

The plastic used is good quality stuff though, and it's polished to a glossy shine which looks quite nice in-hand, but next to a fully painted MB (in this case Exia, which has all its white areas painted) the difference is immediately noticeable.

Astray also gets dinged for its hefty amount of sold-separately accessories, and depending on what packs you wanted this may or may not be a big negative for you. For example the Flight Unit was sold separately and now it can cost nearly as much as the Astray itself (the Flight Unit is awesome, but I can't say it's $150+ awesome), but if you weren't interested in it then it's a moot issue.

Overall though, if you want an Astray toy that looks good while also being playable (it's very sturdy feeling in-hand with tight joints and quality construction), the Metal Build will fit the bill. On its own, it's a good, solid toy, but compared to other suits in the same line it doesn't compare quite as favorably.

>>7103748
>>7103754
The white on Blue Frame is unpainted just like Red Frame.

>>7103994
I'd hold off on making a decision until after watching the anime. Learning about the pilot and seeing the tails in action will help you determine if its worth the double-dip. It's a standard release too, so there's no harm in waiting a little bit before making your choice!

I wish they'd start throwing out Zeta A.N.I.M.E. figures so I'd at least be tempted by something other than yet another RX-78.

I'd actually love some more non gundam Feddie suits. That side is looking awfully weak in numbers compared to the ever increasing Zeon army I appear to be amassing.

Who'd a think it? Or so I thought until I checked and saw that the M9 is shipping about a month sooner. Somehow even if they're good I rarely want to own models of the star suits when they look very different from the show.
>>
>>7104947
Well, to compliment the RX-78 best, I have only one answer: G-Fighter. Admittedly though, its not necessarily because of it being the best one, but because it is so nostalgic to me. My very first Gundam figure when I was younger was the MSIA Gundam and G-Fighter combo pack. So its got a lot of nastalgic value to me.

Dom is a very good figure though. And I'd also recommend Gelgoog, Char version or grunt. Though honestly overall, you're pretty safe getting good quality from most of the line. Though be careful with Char's Zaku. Its one leg seems to go floppy easily with the early release and I don't know if that issue was fixed in the rerelease, though it wasn't present in the green Zaku II.

>>made-to-order toy sells out

why
>>
>>7105502
Could be multiple reasons.

Maybe the factory only works in set amounts. Say the factory offers 1000 per order, but they need to make 1001, they would have to place an order for another 1000 just for that single one.
I doubt Bandai would want to end up sitting on a pile of non ordered toys which is going to cost them more to make than they would lose out not offering that extra one.
>>
>>7105519
Or maybe Bandai just hates us.

>I'd like to get a figure or two to go with my RX-78
I'd highly recommend the ANIME Gouf. Looks great, poses great, and is a great adversary to the Gundam. In short, it's great!

>>7105895
My first run Char is still holding up fine without issue, but multiple anons have reported having that problem. So it may be a YMMV type of situation, but it's probably a good idea to at least expect the issue with the figure so you're not surprised by it.
>>
>>7105519
>>7105526
Why don't they just let P bandai HK handle international orders? They did so for Wing Zero and MB Exia Avalanche and a few other things. That worked quite well.
>>
>>7105502
>>7105519
>>7105526
It's still up for pre-order on P-Bandai, the 3rd sellers probably just hit there limit (P-bandai only allow 6/ account for an item). Exactly why anons told people to use proxy instead.
If it actually "sold out" on P-Bandai there would be 2nd batch, 3rd batch,... like the Wing Zero Custom ( or the memewort, not sure about gunpla)

Gunpla is another beast altogether as that's all internal. They can print of to an exact amount if they desired when it comes to Gunpla.

Was interesting to see them just churn out little HG RX-78 head runners to give to people visting the Gundam Front Tokyo.

>>7106191
I'd rather a couple of replacement parts instead of an unsightly line across the black cross section. Would have been nice for them to throw in pieces for looking up and down too.
>>
>>7106455
Doubt it's just the matter of the purpose of the line that Mazinger is getting a release on it for a reason. No Mazinger is probably there again because its Mazinger. Mazinger might as well be in every line like Gundam, it even got a HG so there's that.
