Well shit, would you look at that. You guys have a thread dedicated to Legos. I'm not from this board obviously, but I'm looking to buy a shitton of Legos and I need help. Basically all I want to buy are the bricks, without all the shit parts and the characters that usually come with themed sets. Where should I be looking for those and how should I search for that?

Hello anon and welcome to the Lego General. Please ignore the shitposting; we've been having a rough couple of weeks.

Your best option is to buy a bulk lot on ebay. You'll be able to find bulk lots of bricks for about $10 per pound. However, these are used pieces and might need to be cleaned.

Another option is to buy some of these. If you wait until Black Friday, Walmart sells a 900-piece Classic bucket for $20 but every Walmart only gets ten or so of these and they sell out very quickly.

But if you just want a shit ton of Legos, the cheapest way is to buy some bulk lots from ebay.
>>
>>7102628
Bricklink is the largest second-hand market. You'll find the best prices and variety there, but it's distributed across a wide number of individually operated storefronts.

Lego's Bricks and Pieces service is the official bulk storefront. They have a better selection than any given Bricklink store and a pretty generous upper limit to what you can order, but the prices aren't nearly as cheap as Bricklink's.

I suggest you buy basic bricks in bulk from Bricklink and any oddball parts you need in smaller quantities from Bricks and Pieces.

>>7102644
Like this anon said, if you don't mind random/dirty parts, eBay's not bad either.

>Lego's Bricks and Pieces service is the official bulk storefront. They have a better selection than any given Bricklink store and a pretty generous upper limit to what you can order, but the prices aren't nearly as cheap as Bricklink's.
The only downside to B&P is that they only carry pieces that are being used in sets currently in production. If you want a piece that's in a 2017 or 2018 set, no problem, but if you want a piece that hasn't been used in a set for a few years, chances are they won't have any in stock.

>>
>>7102772
You could make half the wave Ed Edd n Eddy and I'd be on board so hard. Tom and Sarah of Toonami of course, maybe a Samurai Jack. For some reason though, cartoon characters represented in Lego come out odd often. Well the ones that have a definite style of their own... the PPG dimensions figs were pretty good but the specialization does stand out. Dexter's Lab is classic, Kids Next Door would translate well as simply unique minifgures (a gadget accessory each?) and Foster's Home characters could be some interesting non-humans. Eduardo would be basically impossible to include in a blindbag product like this though, far too easy to identify if given appropriate bulk, he'd have to be a big fig or something. Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy also comes to mind.

So I've found some "new and sealed with some shelf ware" sets on Bricklink, for less than regular retail price. However these are all sets that are still on store shelves. Should I stay away from buying these? seems fishy.
>>
>>7102926
Damaged boxes?
>>
>>7102930
Maybe, but it doesn't say so in the description. Just "may have some shelf wear".

If it is damaged boxes I'd be ok with that
>>
>>7102932
"Shelf wear" is usually code for "faded box that was in the store window exposed to direct sunlight". As long as there's no transparent plastic on the packaging, the pieces should be fine.
>>
>>7102926
I'd go for it, unless it's a brand new seller with no feedback.
>>

>>7102926
Also, you should be aware that Bricklink is extremely buyer-friendly, and cracks down hard on sellers that are selling chinkbricks or running scams, as long as you report the problem right away. A lot of sellers are terrified of getting any negative feedback or triggering an investigation and will go overboard to correct any mistake.

One time I bought a transparent neon orange 4L lightsaber bar that turned out to be a broken antenna of identical length, and the seller threw a buck at my paypal even though the part was only a quarter. In the last ten years, I've only had one actual problem with a seller, and one seller who just seemed kind of incompetent in general or was maybe just having a really rough few weeks at the time, but every other transaction has been either perfectly smooth, incorrect with instant correction, or above-and-beyond where the seller intentionally included extra parts for free, either based on the types of stuff I was ordering or just whatever. One seller sent me a bunch of printed pieces just for fun, and another seller sent me one of these trees in addition to correcting a matter of less than fifty cents.

I've heard a lot of people get candy with their orders from European sellers.

My local Big W has finally stocked the Harry Potter CMFs (although they still only have 75950, 75951, and 75952 - no Hogwarts Castles or Quidditch sets that people actually want). I got there an hour after they opened and found two boxes of CMFs; one sealed and one half open with a pack pulled out. So I pretty much had first pick of a box for the first time ever.
Should I keep Graves sealed?

Honestly fucking hated The Last Jedi. It is worse than all three prequels combined. Cinematically, pretty cool looking. But the story line was terrible. Actors did what they could with it, sucks they are the face of the movie and get the worst of the criticism.
But the new guards have badass armor. I doubt they will ever be released in another set again so they seemed half-way worth it.

What do you guys think about City lately? Specifically, I'm talking about how City is tackling other adventure-type themes instead of strictly focusing on actual city stuff like police, firemen, postal services, etc. I'm talking about the

I get that they're trying to mix it up, but I feel it's a bit of a shame since it all feels half-assed and uninspired. I mean seriously, Power Miners, for as trash as it was, is complete kino compared to this dull and generic set.

Never had any of the RockRaiders or Powerminers sets or city equivalents. But that specific set looked really cool to me suprisingly.
The inserts in the tracks look great and all the surfaces of the big crusher are smooth and functional looking with some cool fonts and decals on it. And you can't argue with those GITD cave tarantulas.
I'll never buy it for myself, but if you're already into semi-realistic construction/mining type stuff this set is one of the more cool and exciting ones to date.

Hey, guys I have completely eaten my own words it looks like the daredevil, lizard and swamp thing set are all coming true. I have heard from a very I mean very reliable source on instagram, he is a LEGO leaker and all of his leaks have been accurate. He states that he knows of 1 swamp set, and lab set. The swamp set basically implies swamp-thing, and the lab implies the lizard. I don’t know what set daredevil will show up in. There also seems to be more so called spider men involved in this, bc spider man, daredevil, spider Gwen, are not gonna be the only heroes. I think spider people like spider man noir maybe even 2099, if not definitely other heroes.

So apparently they are indeed remaking some earlier sets.
From instagram (via "Brickseek", which is locked in my country);

70679 Ultra Dragon - 84,99$ / Remake of 9450 Epic Dragon Battle - 119,99$ (Probably without the Great Devourer/Giant Snake and brick-build dragon heads)

70669 Cole's Earth Driller - 49,99$ / Remake of 70502 Cole's Earth Driller - 19,99$ (Probably a significant upgrade)

70668 Jay's Storm Fighter - 39,99 / Remake of 9442 Jay's Storm Fighter - 24,99$ (Probably another big upgrade)

70666 The Golden Dragon - 19,99$ / Remake of 70503 The Golden Dragon - 29,99$ (Probably with brick-built dragon head)
I'm not sure about the last three, but hang with me for a sec; I think they're bringing back spinners.

The first is labelled; LEGO LEGO® Ninjago Spinjitzu Lloyd vs. Garmadon 70664 - 19,99 (Which is what Spinner two-packs came with back then)

The next one; LEGO LEGO® Ninjago Spin (cut off) - 9,99 (original spinner price)

And; LEGO LEGO® Ninjago Spinjitzu Jay (cut off) - 9,99

Now the boxes are still subtitled with Masters of Spinjitzu, but the sets have really strayed far away from that and Spinjitzu isn't in the first four leaked pics.
Guys, now I hate to say this, but this might be the "greatest hits". And we know what that means...

I think they're is a possibility Ninjago is coming to an end.

Overwatch:

75971 - $20

75972 - $30

75973 - $40

So judging by these, I'm really doubting the constraction arguments even more, this looks promising!
>>
Marvel:

According to someone on IG, we're going to get (at least) 4 Spider-man sets next year, in addition to the previously revealed Venom mech set.

I wonder what this means for the MCU sets though, maybe the number of sets for Avengers 4 is going to be reduced to three or four? Or perhaps they skip Cptn Marvel and FFH? I certainly hope not, I definitely prefer movie-based sets over comic-based ones.

DC:

Its rumored that there will be one more dc set released in the winter of 2019. It is rumored to be set number 76116 and will retail for about 25€

I have convoluted context for pic related but basically: will gel pen ink ever dry on plastic?

I got a small variety lot of ancient (back marking says c 2009 Lego ) friends minidolls off aliexpress. As you can see, colours are mismatched and they gave me 4 boy faces.

Obviously it rendered 4 minidolls instantly gay; thankfully, something as eyelash would instantly feminize them to at least trap level.

I would use a perm marker but i dont trust my penmanship to do lashes perfectly in one go. Pic related is my austistically applied gel pen.

Will this ever dry and if it can; what methods to make pen ink dry on Lego?

>feel the nostalgic urge to get it again, check BrickLink
>mfw just the minifig alone goes for 15 euros nowadays
>mfw cheapest ones with box included starts at 40 euros

Man, just fuck me. I love Lego but this can be amongst the most frustrating hobbies around, it's appalling that toys which are barely a decade old and were sold on mass retail are now going for three or four times their original MSRP. You don't see this shit happening nearly as much with regular Star Wars figures or Playmobil or Transformers or most other toys, those all do occasionally have rare / highly desired figures and sets which end up with high aftermarket prices but you rarely get regular retail waves all hiking up to three times their retail prices as soon as they're out of stores - for the contrary, most of them actually deprecate in price after some time, because that's exactly what's supposed to happen with most consumer goods until they reach the "vintage" point after a couple of decades. It's understandable that sets from the 1980s and before commend a hefty price nowadays, they're risen to the point of becoming scarce collectibles with a certain era appeal to them, but regular half a decade old sets available on mass retail just about everywhere in the world? Like, what the fuck? That's completely and utterly nonsensical.

It's particularly terrible when it comes to Star Wars because these seem to inflate at an even higher rate, how can it be I just recently got the Night Lord's Castle with box for 80 - which, for all purposes and effects, should count as actual vintage Lego - while a tiny-ass chicken walker in the same condition costs just about half as much?

The thing is, this is the sort of inflation that's almost exclusive to Lego. You can go on Ebay right now and find most of the original MISB action figures from Revenge of the Sith for around the same or occasionally even less than their original retail prices, why the fuck is Lego so radically different in this? They're just building blocks, you're not even talking about molds that were specifically designed and crafted for each individual release like with action figures, and yet, they have absurd price increases in as little as half a decade. Being "out of print" is hardly an excuse either, the vast majority of hobbies centered around commercially available products sold on mass retail have the common decency to simply keep their price or sometimes even lower them by understanding that newer figures currently being sold in stores are fundamentally more appealing novelties than older ones. It's mostly just AFOLs who absolutely want their plastic toys to be valued at far more than what they're actually worth.

>maybe you could buy the parts cheaply?

Not that I have too much of a choice, eh? I'll eventually resign to doing that if there are no good deals around, the printed piece isn't all that expensive and the minifig might show up on a reasonable price every now and then. It's just that, like >>7105144 said, it feels much nicer to get the complete set with box and instructions.

not that anon but you could say the exact same thing about literally any other toyline ever made. Only Lego has this shit of a fanbase that basically accepts scalping as a normal thing.
>>
>>7105288
People who complain about scalpers make me laugh. Either don't buy expensive stuff from them, or buy a bunch of new stuff, store it yourself and resell it years later for exactly what you paid for it if you don't want to "accept" scalpers. You're basically whining that it's "not fair" that you can't have a set for MSRP when it's being sold by a reseller.
>>
>>7103804
Which figures do you think they'll include? If any at all
>>
>>7105329
It's valid to complain once you realize TLG is actually enabling scalpers with the bullshit CMF distributions, store-exclusive sets and SDCC giveaways with minifigs or sets that they KNOW people would gladly pay for.

This. Ebay is a crapshoot because you might see one listing for a single red 2x4 brick that's $5 and sold as "CLASSIC RETRO VINTAGE LEGOS", but then the very next listing is a sealed 3000 piece set for twenty bucks and free shipping.

Because most kids open their legos, play with them, and lose the pieces. There’s simply less complete lego star wars sets than Hasbro figures. It’s also why the kenner figures are so much. Because kids actually opened those and played with them and broke them and lost their accessories. There’s only so many left.

Why do people drop 1000$ on the iPhone when Android phones of equal power are much cheaper?
Why do people give Nintendo 60$ for a plastic box loaded with roms when they can make their own for like 10$?
>>
>>7106144
And why do Lego fans drop $50 dollars on a city jungle vehicle when you can get a bootlego that builds something even larger with working suspension for $20?

None of these questions answer the question of "why do people pay almost $400 for 300 common pieces and a set of instructions to a moc that's easy to reverse engineer".

Not that anon but I wasn't making a point about wanting to get free shit. It was more about the multiple layers of absurd bullshit behind exclusives:
>travel to another country
>pay up for a pass to a convention of quationable value
>to try and get the CHANCE to obtain this fig or set that will never be sold in stores around you
>end up not getting shit
>see some fucker afterwards who managed to get multiple units and gets to resell them for as much as he wants because there's no alternative

TLG's intentions may be good but they are raising a cancerous demographic in the process and I don't believe they haven't noticed yet.

Lego has pretty consistently had specialized parts for motor bikes given how common they are and how hard to make with normal bricks. Another one of those is hardly a concern.

To deny that LEGO has an element of market speculation inflating it's prices artificially is a bit naive or dishonest. You might like it or dislike it but it's a fact, a lot of people buy LEGO exclusively because they know it will appreciate in value, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Is it me or is lego "phasing out" the realistic looking guns out it's sets? It the lego city police chase not a single set has realistic gubs, that one wonder woman set with a plane uses stud shooters whereas the old Johnny Thunder plane set used the shotguns instead and new Jurassic world sets use both tranq guns as well as hueg stud shooter space guns including the one completely out of place in the jurassic park set.
Did i miss something happening or is lego simply simply trying to be even more kid friendly?
Also, fuck stud shooters, NOBODY likes that garbage.

It really shouldn't man. Not only is it a polybag limited to a very small number of parts and cost. I'ts also under the Juniors banner.
Might've looked better if the front fenders were white though. Or that the blue streaks on the side of the hood continued through to the back while the side bricks were white.

Lego City cops never had guns

Kids love stud shooters
>>
>>7106530
I like studshooters or those laser shooters integrated to be hidden away in builds. I really enjoyed the shooting aspect of the old Pirate cannons. The handheld studshooters look a little silly though I agree, unless you make them a big sci-fi blaster or something.

The tranq guns look the same level of cool/realistic as your old western shotguns and pistols though. Not sure why you dislike those when put in a set for keeping in themepark dinos.
>>
>>7106518

>>

Lego has used gun pieces exactly twice in City/civilian sets.

6490 Amazon Crossing contains one rifle strapped to the roof of a car, presumably for gator hunting.

1352 Explosion Studio features a bank robber with a revolver, but the set is framed as a movie set complete with crew, camera, lighting rigs, etc.

So there's nothing unusual about Lego police not having guns. As for non-City themes, that same Wonder Woman set you mentioned has a guy armed with dual revolvers. The only reason the plane has studshooters instead is because they're more playable.

According to an Instagram user who has been leaking 2019 sets, there will be a new theme coming next year that was abbreviated in the catalog as "AL". There will be at least nine sets in the first wave, and three of them will be priced at $5.99, $14.99 and $19.99.

I'm posting this here because I'm fairly sure that it will be next year's Big Bang theme and I don't think there's a topic for it yet.

Speculate away!

Here is the list of stuff for this al

41971- AL 1 (????)

41972- AL 2 (????)

41973- AL 3 ($6.00)

41974- AL 4(????)

41975- AL 5 (???)

41976- AL 6 ($15)

41977- AL 7 (????)

41978- AL 8 (????)

41979- AL 9 ($20)

also it most likely stands for action licenses now that I think about it. Or a Mixels style theme?

"AL" are the initials of Alfred Legosen, the inventor of the Lego. He was born to a family of poor Danish farmers in the year 1872 and spent his formative years working in the fields. It was during this time that he developed a passion for building structures out of hay bales. However, in 1901, while constructing a large house out of stacked, rectangular bales, the bales collapsed on him, breaking both his hands. These injuries would never fully heal, and as a result he had to abandon his childhood hobby.

Much later, in the aftermath of WWI, Alfred would take an interest in the ruins of the buildings destroyed during the war—particularly those made from bricks. The rectangular forms of the bricks reminded Alfred of his days with the hay bales, and he conceived a desire to build once more. However, due to the injuries to his hands, he was unable to manipulate objects as heavy as bricks. Knowing that he would need to find a new medium, Alfred opened up a workshop and began making prototypes of his ideas.

Alfred would spend almost thirty years testing various materials for his new artificial hay bale construction system. His earliest tests were with wood, but the labor required to hand-carve each wooden block wasn't economically feasible in 1930s Denmark (coincidentally, he would later sell those patents to the Haas brothers, whose company, Haas Brothers Inc.—now known as Hasbro—would develop the concept into the game Jenga). Alfred also tested concepts in glass, ceramics, bone, metal, compacted manure, and stone, before finally discovering plastic. Plastic was lightweight, durable, and easy to mass-produce, making it ideal for Alfred's plans. Shortly afterward, in 1942, the first of Alfred's "Legosen Plastic Hay Bale Miniature Building Kits" would arrive on Danish shelves. In Denmark, Lego is still colloquially known by this name, though Alfred changed the name to simply "Lego" in 1954 to accommodate the expanding global market for his product.

Can we all agree that, even if the Y-Wing is technically the best *stock* set from Rogue One, upgrading the U-Wing with the Alternate Bricks undercarriage reduction mod and extending the S-foils for about 8 studs or so actually makes it into a more gorgeous display piece? Because fuck me, this has to be by far the coolest and sleekest ship design from the new films, maybe facing some soft competition from the TIE Silencer at best. I deeply regret not having bought it sooner than I did.

Lego Facts?
Lego Facts:

To quickly create a SNOT connection, just wedge a plate in between two studs. You can also use super glue like they showed in The Lego Movie if you can't get the angle just right. Plates can also be cut with a hacksaw if the ones you have are too long for what you need. If you want to get into making customs ("sigfigs" or "waifigs"), Play-Doh and hobby-store acrylic paint are your best options. If you trick a Lego Store employee into saying "Legos" they have to give you a free polybag. Some minifig heads have a secret face print underneath the visible one. Glow-in-the-dark pieces are edible. In Germany they call Legos "Danishblokken" because Legos is a slang term for penis. Dark bley pieces are actually made out of coral. The Pirates monkey was based on a monkey that Ole Kirk Christiensen shot on safari. Primo and Duplo blocks contain a numbing agent.

>>7108523
Non-lego products can actually damage real lego due to size differences.
It's better to not being able to use your pieces because they are glued to each other, than not being able to use them because they are fucking broken.
Of course, you can argue that some original lego parts get shit QC and end up breaking up by themselves over time. Has happened to me and some other anons ITT.

As long as its not a 50/50 lego and low tier pbbg hybrid monstrosity, nothing wrong with doing the former.

>buy $350 Lego set
>it comes with stickers instead of everything being printer on the pieces

Literally why I stopped buying sets.

Currently building the Dr Strange Sanctum set, so many stickers to fuck up.

>tfw just got some of the sticker pieces necessary to build that set with the General Store and Bank
>tfw trying to find a seller on Bricklink that's selling all the stickered windows in good condition for a decent price
I really wish they had printed those pieces, still can't wait to get the whole thing built up after all these years (especially since I already have the baseplates from Fort Legoredo).

I was pretty happy to find that the Detective's Office didn't have any stickers.

Why the won't Lego release more DC superheroes? I literally just want a atom or a zatanna but all we get are freaking bat characters.

That Question is amazing. Very excellent use of a Simpsons torso. Was the head blank to begin with, did you heresy off a face, or is it just turned so the camera can't see it?
>>
>>7108784
The question design is actually something I saw on eurobricks. The head is just a angry clone face spun around for now
>>
>>7108790
Well, face printing is the easiest printing to remove with an eraser if you choose to do so.

I think Batman is more accepted in general because the other DC heroes are really silly in comparison. Atom I think got a ComicCon figure, and there are bootlegs of him, but Zatanna definitely needs a minifig.

Too bad about the obvious droopage though. I did mod my undercarriage cause it was just unacceptablely huge, but the extra 8 studs definitely makes it sag.
>>
>>7108490
Yeah, which sucks because it's already out of scale completely. It can fit no more than 2 minifigs unless you jam them in and take 5 minutes to make sure they're all staying in place. If they made it so the bottom was detachable by pulling some technic beam in the back, and up'd the scale by about 1.5x, it would be way cooler.

Lego intentionally designs new sets to break bricks with bullshit like that launcher and the stupid stud shooting guns so kids will cry to their parents to buy them a whole new set
