I'm still upset that PE's had such a shitty skinny lion mode. I want this actual design.

My G2 Scoria is coming in tomorrow, and I'll be glad to have that trio of dudes complete, but his time in my PoL had expired just about a week before my new Power Baser hands arrived. So now I have to think of something else to buy so I'm not just wasting another $4 for shipping on a $10 item. But BBTS is sold out for Odin's bust, so I'm kind of at a loss for what else.

Not that I'm any sort of identifying expert, but I don't think his legs are. His talons might be.

I have a friend that got one, so I'll link this to him and bug him about it. As far as I understand it, great lynx mode, but unfortunate "it's only a box" alt mode.
>>

He's good. Nice and chunky, and heavy.

Joints aren't too bad, but he turns into a giant brick so there's no reason to tranform him until the top half comes out.,

>>
>>7197240
I just hope the diecast toes on the birb mode won't be a problem for stability, since I doubt you could adjust them.

I have magna, and almost all the diecast in his feet is pretty easy to adjust because the screws are accessible, except for one joint that has the screws covered under goddamn glued in metal covers, and on mine one of those joints is the only joint that's any loose.

I've waited years and years for a good Voyager sized Galvatron to appear, and so far no one has delivered on this. Especially not official releases. Seeing as my only good options are going to be Leader sized anyways, I'm finally gonna cave and buy one of the third party MPs, next time I get some money in my hands.

I'm leaning towards Sovereign. Anyone around who's owned him for a while and played with him a lot? I'm curious as to how he holds up over time. The ankles and feet kinda worry me.

It's bad. MFT already has a black Microchange version out. PPT has teased theirs, both are straight repaints with no new chests or heads.

PPT's has wrist swivels, panels to cover up the hollows on the forearms and lower legs, toes that fold to make the camera mode more square. Theirs also use clear green plastic for some color separation. There's also a dozen faceplates included but I doubt you'll be messing with those much.

Squad completed, Scoria's hip issues and all. It's sad that that transformation joint wasn't made stronger, but with what feels like 50% of his mass down in his legs it's not all too surprising that it causes them to undo themselves. What I didn't know was that he had something of a hand issue -- with the hilt of his sword making it necessary to tilt his hand forward just a bit. If I ever decide they need to be a full but "unmatching" team, I might be forced into getting Gigapower releases to round them out.

Horrible articulation below HasTak standards, stubby arms and an overly blocky torso.

Couple questions,

I dropped out of the Transformers scene a long time ago, like right around the time the original Ultra Magnus 3P became a thing. I can clearly see now that third parties have only gotten bigger and bolder, so how are they avoiding litigation? Surely just changing the names around isn't enough to get by the fact that they are wholesale taking from Hasbro's designs?

Also, what's the best Shockwave figure now, third party or otherwise?
>>
>>7198422

>so how are they avoiding litigation?
China. China gives virtually no fucks and it's near impossible to successfully tag someone for IP theft there.

>Also, what's the best Shockwave figure now, third party or otherwise?
Pic related. Hope you like Legends sized figures.
>>
>>7198711
The weight of the legs pulls down on the soft ratchet that's used to lower the hips for transformation, causing them to "dislocate."

>>7198707
I'll agree that >>7198721 is a great Shockwave, but is smol. Takara's MP-29 is perfectly serviceable for a fuller sized figure, but at this point I'd probably recommend holding out for the + version for the darker colors (if you want to buy my original off of me, I'd sell him). There's a lot of love for FansToys Quakewave out there, and BBTS has a great price for one https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/20509

I also have Cloud9's Quakeblast (in black), and he's a brick of fun to me.
>>
>>7198721
I also heard it was because Hasbro doesn't wanna risk suing anyone. Since after Lego tried suing someone and they lost everyone including McFarland toys started doing rip off legos with no legal action
>>
>>7198738
Bandai just sued the balls off a KO and 3P Gundam making company though, and won right?
>>
>>7198738

>>
Oh he's a BIG BOY!!!
>>
>>7198881
I'd like to know when he's actually coming out. Beast Gorira's reissue actually came about before him at this point.
>>
>>7198707
>Surely just changing the names around isn't enough to get by the fact that they are wholesale taking from Hasbro's designs?

That's actually all they need to do especially when they use original designs. For KOs, as long as they avoid 1:1 replicas and using the registered trademarks, they are pretty safe. Oversized KOs included.

The thing is that tangible objects are hard to sue for, you could just change some parts around and the Chinese courts would see it as an original design. They would have to use IPs like names and the autobot/decepticon symbols.

A nice case study on 3Ps and KOs is Bandai's recent crusade against 3P and KO Gunpla in China. They first went after original kit makers that used official trademarked names. It's only recently that they managed to nab Daban, one of bigger KO makers that used all the tricks above.
>>
>>7198907
He just got released in China. The western sites should start shipping soon.

>Bandai just sued the balls off a KO and 3P Gundam making company though, and won right?

Not quite. It was Sunrise not Bandai who initiated legal action against the parent company Dragon Momoko was a small branch of (apparently they were up to a lot of far shadier shit than what DM was up to, shutting them down was just a bonus). There were a lot of strong rumours the factory raids were instigated by DABAN who supposedly tipped off authorities & threw DM under the bus.

I don't have him, but I am speaking as one who has Power Baser + 3 Monsterbots. They're all built very solidly, and have ratchets in all the right places. The colors are vivid and striking, and I just love their sheer size (which itself is basically the FH trait). As long as you're willing to forgive a somewhat lacking outward shoulder articulation due to massive shoulder pylons, I think you'll be very satisfied with a purchase of him.

As for the trailer, he does already come with a sword and two guns, so he's not exactly lacking in the weaponry department. But you would be getting that fucknormous gun with it, and that appeals to something inside me on its own. I would say it does come down to the space you have to work with -- if your shelf has the horizontal capacity for a truck + trailer, then by all means go for it, because he does look more "complete" with it when transformed.

Perhaps Ben's review will help sort out the rest:

Ultra jelly.
I've got that Scoria when it was on sale a while back but I never found the other two at a price I was willing to pay. I think the aftermarket on them is a bit nuts now too, so I'll probably never complete the trio. I'd really like them to put out Swoop and Sludge based on their proto art for G2.

>>
>>7199207
Probably because the Dinobot's were never "Voyager" sizes. The original figures were around the same sizes as everyone else. It's only MP's that try for huge scales, and Legends who give them slightly bigger/wider bodies normally.
>>
>>7199513
>DX9 Hulkie

Smallest Devastator, doesn't really fit in scale with anything. A little less than good but considered decent.

>Maketoys Giant
CHUG scale but smaller than CW/POTP combiners. Overt anime-style and has a lot of moving parts. Looks great in Combined Mode. (Horrid Long Haul though.)

>TFC Hercules
First 3P combiner ever. Super outdated engineering-wise. 1st releases (green box) had a lot of problems that resulted in the figures tearing themselves apart which were rectified in the 2nd edition silver box releases. A bit too saturated color-wise. CHUG-scale comparable to CW/POTP Combiners. Has TONS of upgrade kits available both from 3P companies and Shapeways to improve it. Buy only if you can confirm you're getting the second edition releases.

>Generation Toy Gravity Builder
MP-scale constructicons. Arguably the most accurate design-wise. The purple color is a bit too redish compared to most Devastators. Has a problem staying connected everywhere when combined. Can hold GT's Tyrant/Megatron model kit in gun mode. Personally the most recommended.

>Toyworld Constructor
Biggest available Devastator. Less detailed than Gravity Builder but holds together better. Relies heavily on partsforming with a crotch+thighs part that has nowhere to go outside of combined mode. Very thin in the torso with an Eraserhead-style head. Considered the main rival to Gravity Builder for best Devastator.
>>
>>7199652
>Smallest Devastator, doesn't really fit in scale with anything
I dunno, he's about what a combiner should be for most Legends figures. IF's Bruticus is bigger, but it also uses fake feet/chest/etc, whereas Hulkie is all built in with no added parts (...other than the gun).

Their Pipes and Huffer are original, since their design/transformation is so-fucking-simple they didn't need to KO it from someone else.

I'm getting it more for the Diaclone bonuses. The suit and the tank is already like 2/3 of the price if you think about it.

I'm thinking of getting MST's Huffer when it comes.

i def want something with little to no partsforming, so like combiner mode hands and such should be integrated.
size doesnt really matter, and im not a purist looks wise.
so mostly just care about how well it holds together, and how fun the transformation is.

>>
>>7200399
Hercules is kind of touchy in general. You should never buy a green box first release of any of its figures since they will eventually break down. The figures can be cheap or expensive depending on where you look, but it is the definitive CHUG Devastator. Again though, make sure you know which release you're buying. My best advice would be to buy ONE of the figures (not Long Haul) to see how you feel about its quality to determine wether or not you'll pursue the whole set, because it is definitely not up to the same standards of production we see in 3P today, being the first combiner and all.

Gravity Builder has become complicated by the existence of KO sets that are supposidely of almost-as-good quality, in addition to differently colored variants and crystal versions. The original figures are still easily found on eBay at their original $100 each price tag as of right now. The KOs, in my opinion, are a bit uglier thanks to the added orange transluscent plastic, but people are settling for them.

>>
>>7200394
All of them partsform the hands.

DX9 Hulkie and TFC Hercules have integrated forearms. Hercules used the threads for the forearms though, purists complained so they made an optional kit that uses separate forearms.

DX9 Hulkie is the only one that doesn't partsform the chest-wings.
>>
>>7200410
What's the Prime? It's pretty cute
>>
>>7200399
Oh right, transformation, sorry

Hercules' transformation is pretty straightforward and simple, with minimal partsforming involved in combination aside from the hands and shield (unless you get the Rage of Hercules upgrade set)

Gravity Builder is a lot more involved transformation and combination-wise, it'll take you a few tries before you can memorize everything. While he looks great, there are some issues with everything staying tabbed-in when in Devastator mode. Still worth it.
>>
>>7200412

wait until the final 2 figure set is released for Jinbao's oversized KO gravity builder later this month before making any decisions. He's okay. Good size, about as big as Feral Rex, and definitely makes a good "final boss". I like how the wing panels on the back connects to the chest panels for a solid connection. The limbs are loose, though, and I don't really trust the angel of death mode. Really, it is best to be kept in robot mode most of the time.
>>
>>7200610
Aw dang, I really want him for that look. By limbs, do you mean the legs? Is there nothing to keep the thighs stable? Did you try getting those nonnef hip gears?
>>
>>7200621
More or less just the weaker plastic of the Hasbro limbs. Granted, I only have G2 Superior for him to use, and the plastic of that feels hollow.

The other bit of looseness is there isn't a tab for the main robots knees, that becomes the combiner's upper thighs. So it can pitch forward easily because of how heavy the combined mode is. The set comes with new hips that are worthwhile, but it can only do so much with it's weight. I'll have to get some ko hands and feet to see how that works, but one guy said it was so heavy, it was disconnecting the feet from staying together.

Just ordered. Can't fucking wait, this might be my favorite toy this year. I like the dragon mode way more in these recent pics than before, and of course the robot mode is gorgeous.

IS it just me, or are thee not many Beast wars fans here? IT feels like maybe two other people here have been talking about this figure. PE's beast stuff has been some of the most exciting releases for me these last few years but no one ever talks about them here. I really hope they keep doing more transmetal based designs.
>>
>>7201008
>IS it just me, or are thee not many Beast wars fans here?
Honestly, the fandom is mostly just G1, because everything always rolls back to G1. I like BW, but not enough to buy hundred dollar+ figures of it, unless someone comes out with a better-than-Takara Primal, and only because I want one thats perfectly show accurate AND is super articulated in gorilla mode, which the Takara had really shitty articulation in and to me is the more important of the two modes since he was in gorilla mode more than robot it feels.
>>
>>7201008
>IS it just me, or are thee not many Beast wars fans here?
You'd be correct unless you count Beast wars as apart of G1. Personally I prefer the designs from the Unicorn trilogy but that gets little to no love from Takara, Hasbro or 3rd parties. Also I don't really like T2 Megatron so I'll pass on this.

I'm waiting on a Cryotek repaint on that one. I got the Fans Hobby Red Dragon to satisfy My BW Megatron needs, and he's great.

But there are more BW stuff I'd like to see PE try. Rampage would be great, especially if they used the IDW comic version of Shokaract (and, ya know, made a Shokaract). Also from IDW BW was that great version of Cybertron Magmatron which would be killer.

An updated TM Tarantulas would be also cool. The Fox Kids repaint was also used in the Universe comics as a big bad undead version of him, for a somewhat obscure repaint choice. Plus Tarantulas was in the Wreckers comics, so that would cross over markets.

TM2 Blackarachnia is actually not that bad of a figure. I'd like to see what PE could do to refine the design without hobbling her with gimmicks the original had. I was looking at using her as My post BM resurrected/Universe TM3 Megatron's femme fatale, but Universe Blackarachnia might be the better choice.

>IS it just me, or are thee not many Beast wars fans here?
Beast wars was the first thing that really got me into toys when I was a kid, and it'll always have a special place in my heart. That said, the designs are kind of their own thing, and aren't as easy to just crank out as other lines. Either you go with a hybrid of show/toy accuracy like takara and have clunky panels all over the place, or do like generation toy and go with mechanical re-interpretations. Season 2-3 designs don't really have that problem so you can get stuff like PE's gorira, but most companies seem like they're waiting to see what takara does so they have something to fit in with.

>>7201090
>In hand the proportions aren't quite as bad and when you put him in a pose the issue is non existent.

because in a drawing it doesn't matter if the cassette deck itself has to shrink to be the right size in robot mode, and if the part that becomes the legs have to become a bit more than twice as thick as the rest of the design, and that there's nowhere for the midsection/crotch/thighs to reasonably go, etc ad nauseum. guido's design looks cool, but was very much not made with toys in mind.

Armada will happen, eventually, but not until the market is good and ready. You don't want another animated scenario.

The series that will get some love eventually or are starting to will be major landmark ones, like Beast Wars, Armada, Cybertron, the movies, Animated(eventually, again; but it'll probably just be those designs adapted into Classics style rather than made to fit into the old toyline. ), and IDW post Furman.

Stuff like non-repaint, non Optimus Megatron G2, Beast Machines Maximals, RiD outside of God Fire Convoy(really all leaders except BM Optimus are possible), Energon, Prime(even with those two nontransforming figures, those will bomb), RiD2015, Cyberverse, Furman era IDW(which upsets me because EJ Su was the best designer they had); all those are mostly doomed to obscurity.

Huh, I didn't know it was possible to animate a series with nothing but QUALITY

Steel ore was an OC. One of the best to date imo
>>
>>7202575

At this point enough of these companies probably have a large enough following to do their own thing. The problem is without the transformers branding it's 100% more risky and people won't buy your piece of shit because it reminds them of a poorly drawn boxman from the 80s.

I'm pretty sure Steelcore sold out everywhere during both his runs and originally being site exclusive with a disastrous launch, but Badcube is going to have to step it up if they want their original bots to sell.

Once the curtain closed on early CHUG so did the chances of making new characters. classics collectors just want to finish up Classics with the 84-88 line-up, MP scale is too expensive for risks, Legends scale collectors want established characters before veering off into new ones.

I just received this beast today and holy crap its a sight once its fully put together. It puts the ut bruticus to shame. The only con is he tends to lean depending on the pose hes in and i'd be paranoid to it up somewhere high.

Ancestrod when?

For whatever reason, I really can't warm up to Zeta's Superion, whatever it ends up being called. It feels overly blocky and yet too skinny in the limbs.

Too big for me.

Not to mention half of the combiner is useless kibble- Silverbolt is just a backpack.

I kinda want their Firefly on his own though just because he's a really nice F4 Phantom with a good robot mode, and as a token flyer for an Autobot MP display he'd look the part.
>>

That's why I'd only go for the Scattorshot set if they use ABS (but he said it has to reach 500 preorders first).

Don't even bother with these people. Some people are so dense. Just look at MFT's Chromedome. Completely unique mold, then you get BS like this.

>They really did a good job re-sculpting Jerry.... *thumbs up smiley face*

Someone asks if it's the same size as the UT

>No. It’s an oversized and retooled KO of Unique Toys Headmasters. The MFT releases will be larger and feature newly sculpted detail and accessories.

I don't get it. Some people just can't let go of the fact that though MFT KOs, they make some brand new figures of their own. In fact they're comprised of multiple groups, Mechanic Studios and now Vecma indeed make brand new molds. Do they look similar? Sure, they're based on the same characters. Otherwise, every sculpted detail is different, there are some points of articulation that are different, weapons are different, etc. It was just like when they revealed their Omega Supreme, people were frantically trying to figure out what figure they KO'ed to make it.

No, it’s just an extra thrown in because it’s fucking cool. The individual bots look pretty great regardless, so it’ll be easy enough to ignore.

I just wish they'd stop doing this "Legends+" shit. Scale characters properly for the size catagory you fucks!

Unless the HM's were all Prime-sized or something and I never noticed.
>>
>>7203131
>ball joint thigh rotations with it open for bending
Wait...Why don't most companies do that? That seems neat for extra articulation. Yeah, "limbs don't bend that way", but who gives a fuck? Might make for some cool poses?

And yes I realize it has those for transformation purposes, but still.
>>
>>7203226
That is their established size though, so I don't see them changing that, especially considering how many releases they already have. They do seem to be switching things up a bit once in a while though. Their Huffer, Pipes, and upcoming Gears are arguably scared better for CHUG scale. With Gears they even said it would suit other "IDW" minibots, which seems to imply Hasbro's recent Legends figures. And then there's Omega Supreme who's in a scale of his own, maybe more towards regular legends or even legion.

>>7203213
Wasn't he Chivalrouser? And then in their description they call him VS-01 computer geek. Oh well, all 3rd party names are just there for the sake of having something on the box anyways.
>>
>>7200411
>DX9 Hulkie is the only one that doesn't partsform the chest-wings.

it DOES but the wing is made from Hook's crane boom instead of being a unique part. This leaves the distinct shoulder piece missing though.

Is this going to be a Xovergen Grand Patriot retool, or a totallí new mold?

>>
>>7203304
As far from what I've seen it's all brand new. They're also doing (supposedly) a camo color scheme as well, though when it was recently shown off it was just in two-tone flat greens (which I'm also OK with).

>>
>>7203333
He looks nice, but a transformer that can't transform and with a pricetag that ridiculous really shouldn't exist.
>>
>>7203343
You're paying for high quality.
>>
>>7203350
There is no amount of quality that can put into a single figure that is worth that price tag. Unless it has somehow been constructed of literally imperishable materials. Don't be bullshitted, this is rolled out on an assembly line and put together by chinese kids with 4 fingers like any other product.
>>
>>7203353
Ok poorfag.
>>
>>7203333
I'm waffling on this guy very hard. I like everything I'm seeing so far, but the articulation is gonna be what makes or breaks him, so I'm waiting for reviews and hoping he doesn't sell out super fast. He's just too expensive to pre-order blind.

The plot twist is that transformers reviewers are all bad. At best there'll be two videos up where people point to his arms and say "yeah, he's got all kinds of joints in there".
>>
>>7203343
I don't even transform any of my MPs because they're enormous finger cramping pains in the ass. For my display pieces I'm migrating entirely to non transforming pieces. They look better and are better made.
>>
>>7203353
>worth

Completely relative, but if you handled a sentinel riobot figure compared to a similar sized MP figure it blows it out of the water. Tolerances, articulation, paint, etc. Everything is next level.
>>
>>7203377
You exaggerate.
>>
>>7203382
Not really. Sentinel Mazinkaiser is the best toy I own, and costs about twice that of the higher end MPs. Sentinel (flame toys) makes spending 200+ on any toy seem like a waste of money. You'd have to handle lots of expensive shit to get a taste for the finer details.
>>
>>7203333
These digits don’t lie
>>
>>7203386
I own plenty of Sentinel figures. They're better, but not three times as good better.
>>

Not the same guy, but out of curiosity, which ones? I only ask because while Sentinel is generally quite good quality, they definitely have some shoddier releases and some absolute knockout ones. Like say, I would put Stocking and Eva 01 on the shoddier end--still decent figures, but they have issues.
