Am I to assume this is stuff happens in the latter seasons, which are well-known to be fucking dumb?
>>
>>100968612
It's really fucking good, I love it. I love the friendship/light rivalry between the characters, and the humour, and episodes like City on the Edge are exactly as good as their reputations would lead you to believe. I think I'm getting burnt out a little on it and should probably take a break since occasionally some episodes will be a bit boring, but I'm still powering through.

I love the behind the scenes stories of Shatner demanding more lines/camera time and wearing really big shoes so that he'd look taller than Leonard Nimoy

Calling bullshit, boxed wine is expensive because of the ridiculous volume of wine you're getting, you can get a single bottle for much cheaper assuming you aren't serving 10 people
>>
>>100968863
You can get some pretty damn cheap box wine where I'm from

Also "for much cheaper assuming you aren't serving 10 people" doesn't make any sense, if you get more wine for less money that's better value

Better value but more immediately expensive, was my point. I've never seen boxed wine that wasn't more immediately expensive than just a cheap bottle, and the volume of boxed wine that I've seen has always been such that it'd be overkill for one person.

season 3 will be rough, gonna say it right away, but if you're prepared to see the quality go to shit, it'll be easier to get through.
But otherwise, yeah, TOS was a really nice watch. The friendly rivalry you mentioned is the highlight of the character interactions, it's so cozy.

He is kind of an asshole, but that is the point. He says it in the episode precisely: He was a kid who was eager to go to war, but the instant he started to actually see what war was like he didn't know what to do. He then inadvertently got someone killed and he himself got shot and had to have his leg amputated. That is enough to turn anyone into a bitter, jaded asshole. Especially when you're from a race of aliens who don't fight and aren't warriors.

However, he learns his lesson and changes by the end of the episode. It is called having a character arc. It's not even like he did anything especially horrible, all he did was mope and then punch Jake. I have a hard time blaming Nog for hitting Jake. Jake is annoying.

The thing that confuses me, is that with the constant occurrence of "weird space bullshit" in the Trek universe you'd think people would be healthily desensitized, to a degree, about being affected by said weird space bullshit.
In TNG they had that episode about the kid whose mom died on an away mission and he didn't have an extreme emotional reaction. I know people don't really like the message of that episode but they should at least be consistent.

KIra was always exasperated with Jadzia being a whore. I can name a few instances off the top of my head:

>when Jadzia was trying to get Kira to fuq the masseus on the holodeck
>when Jadzia was dating Dr. Boday and Kira disparagingly commented that Jadzia would date anything (including Ferengi)
>when Kira angrily left the holodeck because a character kissed her and Jadzia was salty about leaving the program early.

Bashir and Jadzia were the biggest whores on that show, which made Jadzia's refusal to bang him inexplicable.

>The station was designed by Cardassians which means that the station was poorly designed.
Cardassian designs make sense if you think about them from the context of the entire design team trying to stab each other in the back while simultaneously trying to impress their boss, and the boss himself is probably also part of a team where the same process is also occurring.
>>
>>100976793
He withdrew as a way of coping with the realization of his own mortality. He realized that he could die at any moment, for reasons totally outside his own control, and that there was no guarantee that his sacrifice would be meaningful. That's a lot to dump on a guy, especially one who grew up in the most materialistic culture in the galaxy. Besides, he got over it in an entertaining and satisfying way.
>>
>>100981997
The station was designed by a single Cardassian architect.

"The Muse"
ONAYA: I love Cardassian architecture, the way things flow together. Kell used to say that every element had to be of a piece, yet have a beauty all it's own.
JAKE: Tavor Kell the architect?
ONAYA: I knew him when he was in exile.
JAKE: What was he like?
ONAYA: He was shy, unsure of himself and his talent. Most people would never notice someone like him, but I have a weakness for artists.
JAKE: You wouldn't think he was shy from his designs.
ONAYA: When I first met him, they were as timid as he was. I was always telling him to stop censoring himself.
JAKE: He must've listened to you.
ONAYA: I've found artists have a weakness for me as well. At least, I hope they do.
JAKE: I, er, I've always wondered what Kell would have designed if he'd lived to be older.
ONAYA: He accomplished more in the years that he had than most people could in a dozen lifetimes. His name is known throughout the quadrant. His buildings will stand for centuries to come. Isn't that what an artist wants, to be remembered? Isn't that why you write?

No military installation is designed by a single person. There may have been a single guy leading the project, but is modern construction is anything to go by, he'd be an upper management suit who was pretty far removed from the actual construction process, and would work more in delegating tasks to teams of engineers. They'd delegate to foremen, the foremen delegate to the construction laborers, and you can see where the room for backstabbing opens up.

>I wanted to direct Discovery. I met with their producing director. I didn’t know the show that well, but I met with him on their last hiatus to talk about season two. I also produce now. So, I hire a lot of directors. The last few years, there’s been a seismic shift in terms of the priorities toward female and diverse directors. That reality now has meant that what used to be normal, which was a lot of white guys, to be quite honest, has changed. Some shows are mostly women directing. I think Jessica Jones, last year, had all female directors. Handmaid’s Tale. A woman may direct the next Star Trek movie. Most importantly, it’s a wonderful thing that’s happening. I’m proud that on other shows I’ve produced — The Gifted, The Arrangement, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce — I’ve brought in female directors. But, to answer your question, Discovery does a limited number of episodes and a priority there is to get female and diverse directors, so there are fewer opportunities for people like me, which is a great thing. But, yeah, if the opportunity arose to direct Discovery and I fit what they needed and it fit my schedule, I’d love to do it.
