they are all pawns in a grand battle between good and evil. Wayne was being used by the evil side, and my guess is that his baby is meant to corrupt the Garvy family, but Kevin is a prophet for the side of good and so far as been able to keep it together.
Also he wasnt seeing angels in S2, he was haunted by a ghost that was explicitly called an agent of his "adversary."

The show is about faith through and through, characters having faith in what they saw, each other, and if we as the viewers have faith in Kevin.
It would be reductive to give a definite answer.

Season 1 is actually really good, and if you know where the show is eventually heading you can see all the threads being set up very subtly, even for Season 2. And of course when you see the national geographic and know all the foreshadowing it provides... well it makes me feel like this show is Lost done right.
>>
>>79531004
The Leftovers is routinely praised by the shitty blogosphere. It is wildly overrated.
>>
>>79531109
you're an idiot, most of the black people shown in S2 did bad things and made human mistakes. In fact the dad is meant to be a dark mirror to Kevin.
>>
>>79531143
>Nora that high

She yells at everyone and cant keep a grip on her emotions.

In the end John was at least able to admit he needs help and doesnt know what is going on.
>>
Part of me wishes it actually did end at season 2, which is obviously why that ending felt so sorta full circle. It was such a perfect ending. Brings me to tears every time.

But everything I've seen from S3 looks like it's going to be great. So here's hoping
>>
>>79531188
>It is wildly overrated.

It really, really isn't. Its one of the most emotionally effecting shows ive seen.
>>
>>79531143

I liked John's wife's character. She was way less annoying than John for most of the season. The story about the bird in the box gets me every time.
>>
>>79530818
guess i'll just let it be then
>>
>>79531229
yeah the ending to season 2 is some of the best television ever. Honestly there isnt a single moment of television that stands out in my head as strongly as those last 20 minutes of season 2. Everything from Kevin dying to that final shot. Fucking kino.
>>
>>79531023
And yet the entire show is a rote melodrama propelled by doling out definitive answers in the most superficially ambiguous manner imaginable.
>>
>>79531263

International Assassin is so good it makes me wish it kind of wasn't as good as it is. It overshadows the finale so much to me. It's great, probably one of the best episodes of the show, but International Assassin is on a whole different level. It's impossible to follow that up.
>>
>>79531256
im pretty sure the bird in the box thing is from santaeria.

Which makes sense, the show is kind of about "secular" religion and curbs things from all forms of religion and faith, like the water making people forget thing from the greeks.
>>
>>79531229
>>79531263
John's horror at seeing Kevin alive was the best part of the finale
>>
>>79531275
nah not really, its about struggling with faith and finding spiritual guidance in a world where all traditional religions are outdated.

International Assassin is amazing, but I think the last 20 minutes of the last episode are better for me.

>>79531305
I love that moment to. Idk if its horror but maybe more like Otto's idea of the numinous, something he calls an essential part of religion.

From wikiepedia

This mental state "presents itself as... wholly other, a condition absolutely... and incomparable whereby the human being finds himself utterly abashed." Otto argued that because the numinous is completely irreducible... it cannot be defined in terms of other concepts or experiences, and that the reader must therefore be "guided and led on by consideration and discussion of the matter through the ways of his own mind, until he reach the point at which 'the numinous' in him perforce begins to stir... In other words, our X cannot, strictly speaking, be taught, it can only be evoked, awakened in the mind"
John was finally faced with something he cannot explain away or deny and was completely lost and overcome. He looked to Kevin for an answer, admitting he was lost and has been lost for a long long time, and Kevin humbly admits he has no answers. Unlike the other "religious" leaders we see like the GR and Wayne who both offer easy solutions. Kevin admits there is no easy solution but takes the roll on of spiritual leader anyway.
