I think the most important part in the conflict between these two characters is that their mothers share the same name.
Trust me, I work for WB we know this kind of stuff.
>>
Sure. What the movies needed was more hamfisted, overly long exposition making sure that everyone understands character motivations.

Listen, I'm aware that comic books are a written medium and that those, even if they use drawn pictures, need exposition but when you're making a movie you can communicate things visually and if anything BvS problem was still having too much exposition, not too little.
>>
>>91203906
>>91203929
That's the good shit, thanks for posting, anon.

It's infuriating that Batman's quest in BvS was to murder Superman rather than try to understand him. And a Superman whose way of dealing with a potential threat in Batman was to sabre rattle and dismiss. Bleh.

I would have liked to see that version too but what about trying something different? why is everyone on this board so fucking contempt for changing up stories? it's always some mongrels who have never read comics and if they have, it's dumb to whine because there have been dozens, if not hundreds of iterations of these characters with different attributes etc. I swear, it's like trying to please children who are adamant about there only being one solution to a problem. it's pathetic at this point

Those pages are from a point at which Superman and Batman have known each other for years, though, you can't compare them with a first encounter. From Batman's circumstances the arrival of Superman in BvS is more comparable to Magog in Kingdom Come. He doesn't know him, he sees a lot of collateral damage and a dangerous amount of power.

I dont mind changing things up, but what we got was ass.
The above is old hat, tried and true, but it shows quality characterization, a good dynamic, mutual respect, and it would be enjoyable to see explored on film.

What we got was a befudled mix of glum joyless characters who provide no contrast because they are both grim gritty angry killers who only act like they do to advance the plot and have a bland antagonistic relationshio that completely heel turns based on one sentence.

If youre gonna do something new, do it well, and if its based on existing material, you have to at least reach the same standard of quality to not be held in contempt.

Oh, you meant that part not Super's inbred sacrifice.

Yeah, thanks to Superman he learned he was doing wrong...so what? He can do better now thanks to Superman, that doesn't mean he needs him alive. If this was done by someone with competence then it would make the next movie make Batman become the paragon of justice that Superman once was...instead what we got is "WE NEED DA SUPERMAN WE CANT EXIST WITHOUT HIM, WE ARE NOTHING IF HE IS GONE", which isn't Affleck's Batman at all.

Snyder doesn't read comics, he just looks for cool panels to copy. He proved as much when he said TDKR's Batman is a murderer when half the comic is about how Bruce, even pushed to the edge in his old age, doesn't want to kill anybody

Modern audiences need constant exposition to understand anything. It's why Nolan's movies are so successful. The characters explain the plot in excruciating detail and the braindead audience feels gratified like they're smart for understanding it.
>>
>>91209432
This. Not only do we see the guy he supposedly murdered later in the comics, but Bats even narrates how he never killed anyone.

Tim Burton did a better job of adapting Batman to the screen. It was the pre-code murdering Batman though.

Fuck off, pleb. Here's a shot from Watchmen that appears nowhere but Zack's movie. It does a better job of conveying the futility of human achievement in a world with a superhuman god than a million of Moore's references to obsolescence. That was the aspect of the story he chose to focus on.

Welll I guess it's a good thing he wasn't giving us a Batman even remotely like Nolan's then, which, incidentally, was nothing at all like the Batman from the comics.

Face facts. Holding up Nolan's Batman as some sort of gold standard is basically saying, "I'm a normie who prefers it when my superheroes are grounded and realistic instead of how they are in the comics," and that makes you a massive fucking hypocrite.

Oh fuck you. If we're talking about themes and writing Watchen is another travesty. Bring me all the cool imagery possible, i don't fucking care, you're still too much of an idiot for making Nite Owl a cool Batman ripoff, or for giving Ozy bulletproof gloves instead of making him miraculously catch a bullet, or for replacing the giant squid with a more "realistic" solution as if it was ever meant to be realistic

Let's end it here, please, Watchmen is a complicated beast, even if i don't *hate* the movie. Instead of moving goalpost and going "muh kino" why don't you actually try defend him showing complete ignorance of the source material when it comes to TDKR?
>>
>>91209432
>>91209602
That's because he's got plot armor to prevent those things from happening. Snyder doesn't triiviialize viiolence like those hacks and act like punching guys in the head won't cause issues.
>>
>>91209970
You dont get the point. Let's say that you're right and Batman has bs plot armour in that story, apparently Zack didn't fucking notice because he said, specifically, that "he kills all the time" in TDKR and so he wanted to adapt that. Hell, he added that while filming the scene with KGBeast the comics dorks in the room were begging him to make Batman shoot him in the fucking head, because that's totally what happens in TDKR apparently

Actually...

>Batman is obviously much cooler, but that’s because he’s a very energetic and adolescent fantasy character: a handsome billionaire playboy in black leather with a butler at this beck and call, better cars and gadgetry than James Bond, a horde of fetish femme fatales baying around his heels and no boss. That guy’s Superman day and night.
>Superman grew up baling hay on a farm. He goes to work, for a boss, in an office. He pines after a hard–working gal. Only when he tears off his shirt does that heroic, ideal inner self come to life. That’s actually a much more adult fantasy than the one Batman’s peddling but it also makes Superman a little harder to sell

You know what? It's funny what they say about BvS and all. Maybe less envy toward DC would have been better.
BUT.
It's as one year ago Spidey said to Deadpool that after the second movie he will be rebooted to make it work.
Now considering how the situation between Disney and Fox is going on, and that Fox's Deadpool can't work into MCU...
So get ready for a new Deadpool after his second movie!
>>

exactly, that panel is under multiple layers of comedy, its kino
>>
>>91209893
How about I show *your* complete ignorance about TDKR? The only substantive differences between TDKR and BvS are in what the allegorical message is. TDKR's was massively dated, so what Snyder, Goyer, and TERRIO did was update the allegorical message, switch Clark's and Bruce's roles, and tweak what it is the two characters represent.

What's even more, if you were someone wholly unfamiliar with either character, TDKR would be largely incomprehensible, referencing events that never took place in the story, such as Jason Todd's death. BvS does this, too, and I'd be willing to put money on you being one of the people who gave it shit for referencing events from a Bat-history well known to fans of the character.

TDKR
>Superman is a pawn of the elite/government/Luthor
>Superman is fighting dirty little wars, and propping up his pending confrontation with Bruce with rationalizations, ignoring that Bruce is being a truer hero than he is
>Superman is both maiming and killing, but in very comics-friendly ways
>Superman is over the line
>Superman is inspired back into the light by Bruce's heroism and sacrifice
>Bruce, though traumatized by events in his past, is nonetheless abiding his code, being a hero, and doing his best to ignore all the talking heads debating the impact of his crusade
>the story ends with Bruce "buried" and Clark revealing his change of heart at his graveside

This is some really lazy and in your face characterization. Do people know what the word adaptation means? Because that was never Snyder's job. He created a whole new story of Batman and Superman never knowing each and being manipulated into wanting to kill the other, only to find out they are on the same team. So yeah, I prefer Snyder's version compared to this trite.

There's a TV panel in the story later when characters discuss how Batman didn't kill a soul in his crusade against the mutants. Joker had to kill himself because Batman wouldn't do it. Bruce's ossession with his no-kill rule is a major plot point, only an idiot would miss it... or a Snyder fanboy actively going "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU", like the beautiful fellow here >>91210795 >>91210873

>>
>>91211056
I didn't say he killed him. Personally, I always thought he just shot him, and at the time that was shocking enough. Fans debated it for a long time, then Miller came out and said he didn't kill him. That may or may not be Frank engaging in a little revisionist history. That's for you to decide.

Ok, I'll reply one last time, i never said anything about TDKR's allegories or themes, that's just you trying to turn this in a "sophisticated" debate, but i don't care. >don't fucking care, you're still too much of an idiot for making Nite Owl a cool Batman ripoff,

i will be very blunt, you are a moron, the idea of nite owl being like batman comes from the comics, i know wikipedia told you they are based on charlton's characters and your limited time in the sjw shithole called /co/ had theached you one or two things about blue beatle but you missed the entire point, not only moore never intended to use charlton characters, (he wanted to use the shield and his universe) until the second pitch, the idea was to use characters the people were familiar with. In said media (and year) the shield was. He went with ARCHTYPES of superheroes, yes, Dan is supposed to share elements with blue beatle, but he is an achtype, GADGET-BASED millionare, for the medium of movies it makes sense to make him like batman, when the comic was out most of the suits you would see in comics were just fabric and looked like that, when the movie came out that wasnt the case, people was familiar with the rubber suits and armos so the designe most change te be loyal to the archtype people has in mind.

Your arguments are empty, are shallow as fuck, you don't give a shit about the philosophy or the politics of the comic (that are well represented in the movie. Kissinger is way more important for watchmen than Ozy's gloves or if you believe the "violence shouldnt look cool".

The movie ending is a generic twist, and it works, it's the kind of twist that reminds you you are looking at a movie, just as the squid in the comic is a generic comic twist, the story can't escape even after all the deconstriction is still trapped inside it's medium. You retards need to start thinking and stop watching dumb youtube videos that ignore all the political realities about the story. The only problem with the watchmen movie is that the ozy actor is shit.

Because an alien invasion is more likely to bring the whole together against a common threat. Dr. Manhattan going rogue just gives the communists more reason to hate America.
