Disney just bought Fox for 60 billion $. The official announcement will be made tommorow. Time to celebrate?

If Disney ends buying Fox for real down the line... It's gonna be horrible. There's already like 20 capeshit from Marvel movies in 9 years, how much more will they pump out if they have the xmen... Add to that we will never see movies that are actually good like Logan ever again, the Mouse will never do a movie like that.

Fox is already pumping out three Xmen films this year, it's not like Disney would be increasing that number.

>>

>>implying such merger would be legal
Dismey would cntrol about 40% of media, so it is legal, also there is fierce competition in film studios (WB, Universal, Sony, etc...), and competition in TV and series, and Disney will now compete toe-to-toe with Netflix in their own streaming service.
>>
>>91210871
there is no law on hollywood studios, it's not like it's a utility

there are laws on TV broadcasting, and disney is not taking the tv divisions from fox to begin with

fox is going to keep the tv stuff, sports stuff, and other assorted things. this deal will most likely pass, especially if the murdochs want it to because then the gop, which controls the executive branch, won't oppose it
>>
>>91211088
They did but that didn't place them in a situation of control over the market. Fox/Disney would have over 40% of the market share in the movie production/distribution market. And that's against the law. Feel free to go to Russia if you don't like it though

>there is no law on hollywood studios

there are general anti-trust laws against monopolies. You can have a monopoly even without taking over a bunch of other companies, see Microsoft in the 90s.
Also the Hollywood Studios had to sell off or close down all their cinemas in the 40s.
>>
>>91211167
>Dismey would cntrol about 40% of media, so it is legal,
Literally not legal, a 40% of the market owned by one company is a one way ticket to theater chains being bullied to exclude competition and get preferential deals just because of the market share.

yes selling the cinemas avoided the vertical monopoly

but disney/fox would argue due to the internet and digital making it easier for indies to distribute, that the merge is necessary to stay "competitive"

i know it's a bullshit argument because disney dominates but they can point to their ESPN bleeding out every month (which cable subs do make up 40% of their profit) as a counter-point

the real monopoly is unironically AT&T swallowing up WB, that is way worse for the industry and consumers long-term

What is anti-trust?
"Competition law is a law that promotes or seeks to maintain market competition by regulating anti-competitive conduct by companies. Competition law is implemented through public and private enforcement. Competition law is known as anti-trust law in the United States, and as anti-monopoly law in China and Russia."

>>
>>91212084
Other than getting back Spider-Man completely, what would they pick up from Sony that's make the purchase worth it. The Bond rights? Maybe Ghostbusters merchandise if they're not already going through a separate company?
>>
>>91211872
When a company gets too much of a market they can use their position to get an unfair treatment from suppliers or clients thus making impossible for other companies to enter or stay in that market and therefore winning even more power. Disney already does it, Tarantino complained that they forced theaters to kick his movie out to make room to more showings of some Star Wars/Marvel piece of shit that I'm sure you'll know better than me if you're a /tv/ regular. With Fox market share on them, theaters would have to beg them for the priviledge of showing their movies, and this would result in even less diversity in the output and increased prices in both distribution (theaters getting cucked/shutting down) and tickets (you getting cucked). It would be a damn shame too because Disney is about to get destroyed by the ESPN bleeding (it's estimated that it's going to cost them over a billion and half dollar in yearly losses from 2020 onwards, that is, every year. You need to shit out a lot of Porg Christmas Adventures spin offs to make that kind of money back)

tl;dr the only people defending this shit are literal shills or really stupid underage anti-art capeshitters
>>
>>91212084

Again, the problem is copyright, IP and patents, all which don't exist in a free market.

Its much much bigger to have the TV library. They bought it so no one else would. They knew fox was looking to sell. Disney wants a competitive streaming service. They'll now have simpsons, malcom in the middle, x-files all kinds of shit on top of ABC/Disney stuff. It makes disney streaming service a much nicer thing to get now. It also gets them all the original star wars. The original star wars is an easy 500m re-release that fox had the rights too. They'll make a billion off re-releasing the original and another billion off the prequels. Disney can release a non-special edition of star wars now.

This would be a huge mistake. Ending on Logan is any actor's wet dream scenario of how to finish with a loved character. Plus I know I'm not the only one who thinks the X-Men can only be diluted and ruined by blending them into the rest of the MCU? The fact that they had their own universe helped their movies feel more solid. There's a point where everyone is a superhero so no one is a superhero. >At that point there's one dude in a village in West China with no powers.
I would totally watch a movie about an Average Joe dealing with normie shit but in the background there is superhero brawls and whole cities being leveled. But all he cares about it paying for gas and keeping his gf from breaking up with him.

Why is there no movie like this?

Half the villains in it have disney deaths where in the hero doesnt actually kill them, but their death is caused by the hero.

Avengers 4 finale will start a soft reboot of the MCU, including Mutants and F4

Anyone should be able to make a star wars movie. IP should be abolished. That includes mickey fucking mouse.

Fuck kikes, fuck disney.

Have they cracked down on fan films or something?

I can't think of an IP that has generated more fan content, especially of the unexpected-high-quality variety

Not sure. I know the Star Trek people kind of ruined the fanfilm thing so maybe they feel like Disney will with SW shit. Much like Trek, they probably weren't as bothered by it while the IP was mostly dormant but now it's alive again, can't accidentally have fan made shit be better than the official. (Looking at you, STD)
