What's the best Saw movie?
>>
the first one
>>
The first movie was legitimately brilliant and it's a shame everything past it sucked and tarnished its legacy.
>>
Once a 19 year old I met at a bar told me that the Saw movies where her favorites because "they're the smartes movies ever made". I knew then and there that I could trick her into having sex with me.

And I did.
>>
>>98644389
Saw 3+Saw 4

It takes some real balls to make those movies
>Kill main antagonist in the 3rd movie
>Decide to make the sequel start BEFORE the events of the previous film but still end after it
>>
>>98644451
Kino taste desu.
>>
>>98644374
>>98644389
Yeah the first one is sort of a low-rent Seven but still decent, and the twist was great.

Should have left it at that really. The films were way too over the top from 2 onwards, bordering on self-parody at times.

>humblebragging on /tv/

OH NO NO NO
>>
First is the best, but I enjoyed them all up to VI. II is incredibly underrated.
>>
Why do people watch torture porn? What has to be wrong with your head that you derive enjoyment from watching people suffer and be killed in gruesome ways for an hour and a half, without even a suspenseful plot like classic horror movies? It's just
>hurr hurt yourself or you die
>woah so deep this is about human nature
I only watched the first one and found it absolutely retarded, it made no sense whatsoever, I was much more interested in how this weak old man was able to build such a massive system of traps and whatnot.
>>
>>98644464
Agreed, it was ballsy.
>>
>>98644927
It is suspenseful you pretentious fuck, they actually try to escape. It's not like Hostel where they just get tortured.
>>
>>98644927
they were fun, I guess. I still haven't seen a few of them but I liked them as a kid. its about the shock factor. why do people go to haunted houses? fear porn? idk...

>I was much more interested in how this weak old man was able to build such a massive system of traps and whatnot.

Look honey it's super pleb

It makes enough sense but they got way too crazy with it to the point they had to pass the blame for retarded traps onto new characters. "some people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you. not anymore" < that line is worth the concept alone

peace x
>>
>>98644729
Things I liked about Jigsaw
>victims were pretty interesting, particularly Anna and Ryan
>shot better than the previous movies
>movie's not above making fun of itself
>edgy redhead was great
>so was based chainsmoking cop

Things I didn't like
>Logan seems like a shitty successor who also ignores Jigsaw's rules
>traps were mostly boring and not even that gory
>shitty prequel twist once again
>nobody survived the games
>they killed the main detective who was an interesting character and seemed meant for multiple movies
>>
>>98645048
>>98645067
fair enough, I still won't understand how people can enjoy that crap, but de gustibus non est disputandum I guess. Maybe I'm just too old for that stuff.
>>
>>98645188
You're a boring cunt, that's your problem.
>>
>>98645188
I don't get how people can praise Friday the 13th, Scream, etc, but look down on Saw for being "gore porn". The plot is pretty intricate if often outlandish, and they genuinely try to weave things nicely together.
>>
>>98645272
possibly, yes.
>>
>>98644246
Saw 2
>>
>>98645297
I guess because Saw goes right into it. There's not much apart from the gore porn. You get right into people being trapped and having to do terrible things. In Scream for example there's all the backstories, the mystery of who is the killer, you want the main characters to get away from the killer... that kind of stuff. I get that in Saw you also want them to get away, but they aren't so well developed for you to care too much (which I guess is intentional so that it's visually shocking but emotionally not that much), most characters die anyway, and if they don't die they have to suffer a shitload anyway, so it's like a bad option and a worse option, there's no "good" way out.
Not that Scream or any of those other kinds of movies are great works of art in any case.
>>
>>98644246

2
>>
>>98645297
That's funny because I ended up getting into Saw because it reminded of how ridiculous the Friday the 13th franchise got and I loved it for that.
>>
>>98645180
I imagine we’ll find out more about Logan in the next movie, but I really wanted the redhead to be Jigsaw.

I agree that they shouldn’t have killed Halloran. He didn’t seem that bad of a guy and the way he got killed was ridiculously cheap, didn’t even get a chance. I know people will argue the semantics “but he pressed Logan’s button!” as of that actually matters since he still did what was asked of him. Also, there’s no way Logan would ever let him live, his entire plan was meant to kill him, he wouldn’t change his mind because Halloran showed honor at the last minute.
>>
>>98644246
>I have to personalities:
>nicest guy you'll ever meet
>twisted fucking psychopath
>>
>>98645797
He really hit the jackpot with this franchise, has he even been in anything else?

Saw 1 is my favorite; it's the start of it all, pretty hard not to like it. Saw VI comes really close though.

>>98645180
I really didn't like Jigsaw. If it was made during the original series it would be an okay sequel, but it never gave any reason for its existence - it's the same shit as the others (combines multiple twists from the old ones), but with less gore and few familiar characters (Hoffman and Gordon absolutely should've been mentioned here). After a 7-year hiatus I just expected more from it.

Problem with Saw 8/Jigsaw

1. The fake out marketing that they were bringing John back, which they don't making the fake-out marketing worthless

2. The writers ignoring the cliffhanger at the end of the last film. Which sucked, because it implied that the Jigsaw philosophy under Doctor Gordon had taken a disturbing turn: Gordon was going public with his murders, with people were being put into traps in places like stores in the middle of downtown in crowded cities. Where EVERYONE could see them and record them/post them online.

3. The bullshit retooling of Jigsaw's philosophy to turn the new killer into Dexter-lite. Jigsaw doesn't punish crooks who escaped justice. Jigsaw is supposed to put people from all walks of life into deadly "Kill or be killed/maim or be maimed" traps to force them to do unspeakable things; all in the name of suffering/PTSD leading to personal growth as a human being/appreciating life more
>>
>>98644927
Grotesque is better than jump scares every 10 minutes mixed in with "comedy scenes"
>>
>>98658574
4. The fact that Gordon became friends with John after he kidnapped him and his family and was prepared to have all of them killed
>>
>>98658550

>>

>>
>>98649135

What the fuck am I reading? Are you fucking retarded? You lack any fucking sense of basic critical thought to come to this ridiculous conclusion. For starters, the public trap was done by Kramer, he was supposed to appear in the crowd, revealing the trap to be pre-Saw II, for some reason they ended up not filming this.

Gordon is not a real apprentice. He's just someone who was occasionally called in for medical favors, he never bothered creating traps by himself. Seriously "going public with the murders", shut the fuck up. Let's not forget the Gordon twist was written by the many autistic 13 year old fanboys and is one of the worst movie endings in cinematic history. Ignoring this trash ending is for the best.
>>
>>98644246
The first one by a mile but the others are alright if you take them for what they are, cashing in on a good idea.

The first movie was genuinely brilliant and the twist was amazing, contrast this with the "Paranormal Activity" franchise that was dogshit from the beginning.
>>
>>98664432
Especially when you go into the sequels between the two series, you can see that even when the Saw sequels are at their worst you can see that there's still effort behind them, there's always an attempt to entertain you even if they don't always succeed. Paranormal Activity through and through was made with zero effort to siphon money off dumb ass teeny boppers who want to go to see a "scary" movie just so they can brag to their friends about how "scary" it was.

>>
What percentage of the sequel's running time will we spend in fucking flashbacks? I'm predicting 45%.
>>
>>98669833
Yeah, they’re going to establish the Logan - John connection. They also need to make Logan way more sympathetic, since in Jigsaw he came off simply as a killer.
>>
>>98669955
I wish there was a way to knock some sense into Koules and Burg's head. They seem like nice guys who genuinely care about the series but I think they have the wrong idea about making half of every movie flashbacks. A vocal minority (of incredibly low IQ fans) unironically think each film should be loaded with flashbacks "because Saw is about flashbacks". Saw became so flashback heavy because of shitty writing, not because that's the point of Saw.

Confirmed flashbacks will be the murder of Logan's wife and Logan getting Edgar's body into Kramer's coffin, two flashbacks I'm actually excited and interested in seeing, but I really don't give a fuck about watching Kramer and Logan setting up traps and talking about Jigsaw's autistic philosophy. But you just know there'll be about fifteen minutes of these boring fucking scenes. Tobin Bell needs to be dropped entirely, brought back from the dead or reserved for one top tier pivotal flashback every movie.

They set up a lot of great stuff in Jigsaw which can have really cool payoffs in the sequels, but they also anchored themselves into another clusterfuck of boring Kramer training apprentice flashbacks. I don't know if Stolberg / Goldfinger have the sense to keep these scenes as concise and relevant as possible.
>>
>>98670196
Flashbacks are good when they’re in the context of a single movie. Like when it all comes together, they show us what one character did before that we didn’t see previously, and it has an effect on the rest of the movie. Flashbacks are shit when they’re about stuff that happened 10 years ago that nobody in the audience gives a fuck about.
>>
The one were jigsaw is dead and is in the coroners room was pretty kino.
>>
>>98670342
One flashback that they actually needed in Jigsaw was Halloran’s role in Logan’s wife’s death. I didn’t get what did he exactly do: help cover it up or simply released an informant who ended up killing her. Two entirely different things with varying degrees of blame.
>>
>>98670490
I think Edgar was supposed to be imprisoned but Halloran got him off, then Edgar ended up murdering Logan's wife further down the line. It'll probably be something really fucked up like the wife being killed in front of Logan and his daughter.
