>And it does feel like Trek, because it is Trek.

What are you talking about? How is it Trek? The Captain is a torture fanatic. The main character starts a fucking war in the pilot and is a mutineer. The characters spend the whole time swearing and screaming at each other. Everything is lit like a B-horror film. They ignore the Prime Directive constantly from the very first scene in the show. The ship isn't even powered by a warp drive. And there are fucking rape scenes. How is this remotely close to any of the other Treks?
>>
>>99812751
>it does feel like Trek
STD? Really?
>>
>>99812856
The Captain is from the mirror universe. And it’s Trek because the people who made it own the rights to the franchise and decided to make a new Star Trek show. You’re just butthurt. I bet you think Threshold isn’t really Trek lol
>>
>>99812882
It has a darker tone than most Trek but there’s no question that thematically and conceptually it is Star Trek. Not to mention legally.
>>
How come in that Futurama episode Takei accuses Bakula of having killed the franchise? Did no one tell him Discovery breathed new life into the franchise and ushered in a new era of Trek?
>>
>>99812890
>The Captain is from the mirror universe

Your point being?

>And it’s Trek because the people who made it own the rights to the franchise and decided to make a new Star Trek show.

Now I know you're baiting, because I was responding to the fact that it doesn't feel like Trek. Trek is more than just a word.

>I bet you think Threshold isn’t really Trek lol

Threshold is a terrible episode with a story almost as bad as STD but it still "feels" like Trek because the characters aren't fucking assholes, it's pleasant to look at, and it's about exploring humanity's bright future and the galaxy.

ENT was different. It was also a prequel, and we had no Prime Directive, different tech, and characters from novel backgrounds (eg, conventional terrestrial military, languages teacher, not Starfleet Academy). It still felt like Trek because they were exploring new worlds, meeting new civilisations, and overcoming challenges involved with their discoveries. STD is just screaming and stabbing. They don't explore anything novel or investigate any unique alien cultures, and the character backgrounds are all Starfleet Academy but with a bit more murder/mutiny/etc thrown in.

>it does feel like Trek, because it is Trek.
Except it's not. Sure, they've bought the rights to use the name but it's not Trek, there's nothing "Trek" in STD.
The MU stuff didn't make sense. The writers described the Terran Empire (through Burnham) as a "racist and xenophobic" group but then they show people of ever race working together for the TE with MU-Georgiou as the Emperor. Also let's not forget how the writers killed off ME-Lorca after he said that he wanted to make "the Empire greater again", then for some inexplicable reason they thought that Burnham should bring MU-Georgiou into prime universe, no even as a prisoner of war because they let her go freely at the end of the season. Oh and I'm not even talking about that "no male allowed" meeting on Qo'noS.
This shit doesn't feel like Star Trek at all.

Discovery is forced. It's not even like they came up with a reason in the plot for characters to ignore the prime directive. Not really, in "The Chase" they are confirmed to being somewhat related to Humans, Klingons and Romulans. They can breed with clearly mammalian species, like Bajorans or Kazon and spoonettes have milkers. They also sweat (as seen in "Empok Nor"), which indicates them being warm-blooded. The only indications of them being reptilian, is that they like heat and having a somewhat alien skin.

There's a species on my planet called chimpanzees. They're amazing. They'll masturbate to anything. You can train them not to, but it takes effort, loving attention, care, dedication. We humans are like untrained chimpanzees out of the jungle for the very first time, and as such we'll make mistakes, we'll masturbate to pretty much anything as well. So in conclusion, chimpanzees, go watch them at the zoo. Seriously, they're great

So, at the end of DS9 Sisko goes off with the Prophets for who knows how long. The last thing he does is have a final convo with Kasidy basically telling her he's alright and they'll see each other again.
Did Sisko or the show skip the part where he mentions
>oh yeah btw Dukat turned himself into a Bajoran and banged Kai Winn and they both became devil worshippers and she killed one of her aids and then they tried to bring the devil demon dudes out and she sacrificed him but then he turned into main Devil and when I showed up she regretted everything and Dukat killed her and then we fell off a cliff
because I keep wondering when the Bajoran people would notice their Kai was missing, a shady "Bajoran" dude had been walking around her place prior to that and eventually, that one of her aids was also missing and the devil books were also not in their rightful place. I get that they're not gonna go into details over this, but I sure hope, off-screen, Sisko at least gave Kasidy the tl;dr about what the hell happened to him and the people involved with his disappearance.

so basically, the Bajoran brainlets just looked around a bit wondering if they should follow up on actually finding out what really happened, but then decided that was too much work and just carried on with their lives.
>>
>>99824449
It's not like Dukat or Winn survived. Nobody was really fucking with the Bajoran belief system, and the Emissary was with the Prophets in the Celestial Temple, so it's unlikely that they (the Prophets and Sisko) would have allowed the Bajoran faith to get too fucked up. Even if they found out about this it would end up being like the story of the Pope whose corpse was exhumed and then put on trial: an interesting footnote in a long and complicated history whose significance is lost on most people.

>Brent Spiner, best known for portraying Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, reportedly had a long history of petty theft and home invasions. Largely targeting electronics and computers in wealthy homes outside of his neighborhood in Laurel Canyon, Spiner claimed he became fixated on the concept of amassing a digital army and recreating the Borg, a fictional collective entity featured in the Star Trek series. Spiner has since made amends with the victims of his crimes and is in treatment for theft and a cocaine addiction he believes largely fueled his obsession. In 2009, he completed a four year prison sentence and is currently on parole.

The cringe hasn't even started buddy.

>In a Regis and Kathy interview last Thursday, Jonathon Frake's slipped a dirty secret about co-star Brent Spiner. Regis prefaced the admission with "How about that robot guy?! What's he like? I LOVE that dude." Regis proceeded to jump out of his chair and do a robot dance. Frakes continued after a hearty laugh "Things get a little wild on set some times, we have a lot of fun, but sometimes too much." Frakes points to his nose, and shakes his head. Regis exclaims "No! No way! The robot does the sniffy sniffy?!" Frakes rolls his eyes and explains "Well even Starfleet doesn't like a snitch, just ask any Admiral, but like I said things get out of hand...and in all seriousness, we had a problem on...and off set. (Brent) would go out and steal things after a binge, electronics. It was odd at first then I realized. He wanted to create the Borg...". "The BORG?!" Regis interrupted. Kathy gasped "Oh....oh my". "Yes," Frakes continued. "In some cocaine addled disillusion he believed he became Lore..". "Lore!?" Regis interrupted again, "My god, Robot man's twin brother?!?" Frakes, noticeably frustrated, continues. "You try not to ask questions about the people you work with, even if they're your friends, but when I saw the pile of stereos, the torn apart VHS tape rewinders he wore on his head, I called in for help. Pat wanted nothing to do with it and ironically Marina had no counseling skills but a few others were able to help and we had a really productive talk. Apparently that weird Jew collector episode set him off when the actor introduced him to cocaine."

>"Perhaps the most memorable aspect of working on TNG was the quantity of dope or drugs on hand. We were well high up to our proverbial A's in toot, hemp, speed, oil, and Beetle Snuff. Whoopi used to replace the synthenol on the Ten Forward set with vodka and blue food coloring. Brent would freebase cocaine and claim that an "invisible hypnotist robot" was sitting on his shoulder and controlling his acting. His cocaine use and paranoia got so out of control that during one rehearsal for a scene with Teri Hatcher, Spiner ripped off his uniform and shouted, "How dare you interrupt me during a sacred moment!" The producers wrote it off as method acting. Man, those early years were crazy." (Cinefantastique, Vol 30 num. 9, 1998)

They sent Gene's lawyer out to find us and he ended up in a Mexican stand-off with the man who had become Bill's pimp in our time there (Michael J. Anderson, believe it or not! *laughs). So here we are, a week into a melange of all the wild shit you can think of, watching this guy who's given us so much grief point a fucking .44 at this dwarf, and we were both so out of it, you know? Anyway, I think eventually Michael realized what had been going on, that Bill and I were actors from Star Trek, and he had a brief talk with Gene's lawyer, and that was how he ended up playing that Rumpelstiltskin alien on that DS9 episode.

Generations and Nemesis were mistakes, and Insurrection was just a big-budget throwaway episode. First Contact was the only TNG movie that was treated like a movie.

Obviously their legend and others became so integral to Tamarian culture that they molded their language around it. They probably just spoke pre-metaphor Tamarian.

Thank god they booted out Orci and Kurtzman for Beyond. Yeah it had its share of problems too but you can't say it didn't have a better grasp of what Star Trek is.

I started watching Voyager recently. Just finished the episode where Paris breaks the transwarp barrier and he evolves into a being with two hearts and shitty skin. Kidnaps Janeway and breaks the barrier again. They both evolve into giant salamanders, have sex, Janeway gives birth to evolved human salamanders. They get turned back to their usual selves at the end of the episode. But Paris and Janeway's evolved human babies are still on that planet.

It does appear evolution leads to something strange and vestigial.

So basically the metaphor here is that Ketracel-white is crack and the Vorta are whites, Jem'hadar blacks, and Changelings are Jews?

Not to mention it's a pretty lame OP. The OPs have been pretty bad and the threads so damned DS9 heavy.

Does anyone else really enjoy Star Trek Timelines (mobile vidya)? It's fucking fun, not really ptw and quite immersive. Found it's been really helpful as a guide to the different series. Plus you can get Dukat early on, that's got to count for something.

Michelle Yeoh would have been a better lead than Sonequa Martin-Green.

Fuck Discovery.

He could have had a proper star fleet burial but no. Let's have a pile of fucking rocks that is clearly too small for Kirk to be under it.

>favorite series is DS9
If your favorite trek series in DS9 then you don't like Trek
>>
>>99827447
Oh and, it's fucking dumb the way star fleet "buries" their dead as well. Even during the time of sailing ships men were rarely buried at sea. Pirates even wore gold hoop earrings as a way to ensure that they'd eventually be buried somewhere near the port they came from. It's a potential violation of the prime directive to have a bunch of bodies in technologically advanced capsules flying around all over space.

I think Ethan Phillips is a great guy and all fuck fuck almighty do I hate Neelix.
>>
>>99839584
There's nothing wrong with Neelix. I bet you're the same poster who claims Phlox is "Dr. Neelix".
>>
>>99812600
Season 2 when?
>>
>>99839773
End of the year. Which is bullshit. Why do new shows do this? They managed to make 7 consecutive years of TNG and you're telling me that modern shows can't do that nowadays? Smells like bullshit.
>>
>>99839903
I've heard they actually already had the episodes ready but fox didn't want to schedule them or something like that.
>>
>>99839969
Sounds like Fox is trying their damnedest to kill the show if that's true.
>>
