IIRC, all of the TLA comics were scanlated late and not well, even the first few.

Tell me about it, and even the first ones are still expensive as heck to import, since I live in a country where no foreign comics ever find their way.

I found high quality scans of the first 3 series but Smoke and Shadow and North and South are pretty scarce. Plus I'm probably gonna get vanned for downloading the first ones anyways.
>>
>>2390108
If good quality scans, why not? Just spoiler them for neechans that want to wait until they have a physical copy like me.
>>
>>2390117
The /co/fags are STILL focusing on that one page about Homophobe Sozin, which shows there's very little ammo in the rest of the comic for them to screech autistically over. From what I've seen, the LoK comic is huge step up from the AtLA comics.
>>
>>2390108
I think a lot of people would make do with decently snapped smartphone photos.
>>
>>2390194

Weird, with all the "Sozin was extremely gay for Roku" jokes on /co/ back when I was there you'd think they'd be all over the "Sozin banned gay marriage out of spite" thing. The jokes write themselves.

/co/ is more to blame than /pol/.

/co/ feeds the narrative that LoK was an EssJayDubya show so that /pol/lacks and even a lot of sensible people fed up with actual forced progressive shit immediately dismiss the show as tumblr bait. They intentionally poison the well so that outsiders lump it in with the likes of Supergirl and SU. The irony is that the original AtLA was WAY worse when it came to cringey SJW shit than LoK was.

Every thread? They'll just switch the focus, and claim how even bringing up the comparison is SJW (themes of genocide of minorities and Katara literally smashing the patriarchy are fine).
Once you're gone; they'll go back to their original claim. How do think you can have faggots three years later still asking for evidence of build-up to Korrasami? I've have screencaps of us being utterly fed up with the demand to "explain everything right now or it didn't happen!" from a couple of months after the show ended. Of course; the question is disingenuous from anyone but a first time viewer. /co/fags will just claim whatever you say doesn't count because they're used to getting away with that in their hugbox.

Anyone recall that chick that wrote the Asami fic Seeking Sato? It was pretty much the tumblr equivalent of Between the Wheels. Remember how she'd say something really salient and then follow it up by reblogging "Asami rejects capitalism for spirituality"?
She's at it again. She called out the Sozin homophobe shit as forced and cringey, but THEN followed it up by saying that Kya choosing to only tell her friends and family that she's gay (which she reveals is Southern Water Tribe tradition) proves that the universe is actually more homophobic than reality, which she considers super-homophobic.

You see, Mike; this is why you don't try to make a message beyond "they''re gay and that's that." You can never satisfy tumblr.
>>
>>2390727
So wait is it really tradition to only tell your relatives?
>>
>>2390736
Kya said it's a Water Tribe thing that you keep that shit in the family. Do what you want, but don't advertise it.
>>
>>2390793
Wouldn't that eventually get out anyway if you move in with someone of your gender?
Or will everyone in the tribe think they are 'best friends' forever.
>>
>>2390794
It's probably just a thing where people know or suspect, but you just don't talk about it.
>>
>>2390727
The South kept their traditions of homosexuals when they were reduced down to just one village while the men went off to fight? The South should be the most against it since the children stop being made.

This is indicative of the overall writing of LoK. The airbender comics were a drastic step down from the animated show. But the Korra comics are written in the same vein as the Korra show.
>>
>>2390826
Maybe since all the men were off fighting the Fire Nation, the women turned to each other for comfort. Now the entire South is full of degenerate hand-holders.
>>
>>2390844
Yeah, what this anon said. Sometimes you just get lonely and want some comfort.
Besides we don't know if they were the only village. It was just the only one we saw.
>>
>>2390826
>children were stopped being made.
I'm pretty sure the Fire Nation would visit regularly to check if there were any waterbenders about so it's not like having children was save.

It's pretty much an open secret. It's an honour thing, I actually read a fic back during book four where the SWT was described exactly like how they are in the comic.

>>2390826
>The South kept their traditions of homosexuals when they were reduced down to just one village while the men went off to fight?
I know you're being disingenuous and intentionally obtuse, but do you think that
a) that was the entirety of the SWT population? Because if we're expected to believe so, then it doesn't speak well to the quality of AtLA's writing.
b) that undergoing hard times where sticking rigidly to a tradition would be detrimental, so the tradition is relaxed during the hard times and becomes practised later again never happens (eg. chicken roast is traditionally eaten on Sundays, you're down to only one chicken and you eat eggs every day, so you eat something else on Sunday)
c) that picking something you don't like and claiming it's indicative of the entire show doesn't fly on /u/, so you should mosey off back to /co/.
>>
>>2390855
You still don't stop having them or else you risk the populace dying. The children we do see aren't carted off just in case they exhibit waterbending capabilities later in life.

>>2390875
AtLA had it so only one airbender survived. None were left, not even the fluffy flying bison. The South, well the water tribe, apparently value community and family. Would they spread themselves out if the ones that could protect them all went to the front lines to fight?
>>
>>2390899
>Would they spread themselves out if the ones that could protect them all went to the front lines to fight?
What we saw was one village and they stayed together. Doesn't mean there weren't a couple of villages scattered across the entirety of the south pole.
>>
>>2390899
>AtLA had it so only one airbender survived. None were left, not even the fluffy flying bison. The South, well the water tribe, apparently value community and family. Would they spread themselves out if the ones that could protect them all went to the front lines to fight?
All we know is that the men of one village went to fight. "Tribe" means ethnicity. If that truly the entire SWT population, then the events of North and South couldn't have happened. It also means 99.9% of SWT people we see in the comics and LoK are actually just NWT colonists that moved there when no one was looking.

I'm glad too. For a moment there I thought she would have had some genuine character development after four seasons. But they need Korra to cause problems in order for a story to happen, even if the problem is not sticking around to discuss things.

I forget that this is /u/ and we are supposed to applaud mediocrity. I just want yuri and yet these writers think they can write so they put forth whatever and call it character development and shove it in my face.

Korra antagonizes the person who owned that property and then asks Raiko if the city can buy that land for the spirits. The spirits have a whole dimension to themselves.
Korra bites back at her father when the last time we saw them interacting was when Korra ran away. What a horrible reintroduction to their dynamic. A protagonist who has to save the world and they actually have living parents and this is what we see of them.

Korra also realizes that she was wrong after Kya talked to her, but sure let's forget that one.

Also if that dude kept the land it would have inevitably led to conflict either way.
>>
>>2392232
Is there a drinking game for the amount of apologizes Korra has to do because she doesn't think or ask questions throughout everything so far? Because we are in the first of three volumes and she's still pending an apology to the tycoon since she used the Avatar state as intimidation despite him having a legal claim.
But since he's going to be the bad guy and probably one of the reasons why Hiroshi turned to villainy he's going to be wrong. And somewhere along the way, when teaching Korra about the cultures of the four nations, the White Lotus forgot to tell her about how certain things and what Sozin did when explaining the history of the world?
>>
>>2392242
>and what Sozin did when explaining the history of the world?

Korra might have known. Kya was just listing things to support her argument. But yeah the Avatar state bullying tactic was really thoughtless. That stuff is a legal issue. But of course, he doesn't have any legal claim to the land inside the portal.
>>
I'm surprised how no one is commenting on the fact that Tokuga/whatever his name is is smart enough to start uniting the gangs, but inversely is so immensely stupid to go fight at the Spirit Portal thinking nothing is going to stop him (besides the air benders that is). He must've heard things from previous years about how it was at first when the portal was opened and how every spirit is it's own 'human' so to speak.

That seems like a pretty big thing to miss.
>>
>>2392247
>But of course, he doesn't have any legal claim to the land inside the portal.
Which is an argument I would have liked Korra to use to show her development. The portals bother me enough and so does Korra's desire to leave them open, but she doesn't think to step up and put forth an argument like that. Instead she just uses the Avatar state to circumvent legal issues, scare people uselessly, and blow up at her parents.
And then there she is yelling back like a child at the president that if the spirits could vote he'd help them. There wouldn't be spirits there if she didn't just think things through in the first place. And her speech to the people is just empty platitudes.

>>2392247
If Korra knew that Sozin started a campaign against the world and one of his enforcing policies was against same sex relationships, then they left out the part where the Water Tribes have a history of being hush about it all? She's just so angry that she forgets her tribe's customs and takes it out on her parents.

>>
>>2392294

>>2392265
To bully people for actual reasons. Roku reprimanded Sozin and made it known that the Avatar wouldn't stand for conquest which overrode cultures and the harmony of the 4 Nations. And what we know of Yangchen was she was effective and her advice would be to sacrifice your own morals for the good of the world.
No examples have been given of Avatars using their Avatar State to push people around without a valid reason. And >>2392264 is just reinforcing that idea that Korra is contractually obligated to fuck up.

>>2392256
Recall how the spirits conveniently didn't turn people into monsters despite being around the city before the time skip. Also people have been doing stupid stuff in this series since LoK's first episode. Furthermore, he's a villain and they want him to have a motivation for going against the heroes besides he's a villain.
>>
>>2392261
I agree with you sis. I get that people lose themselves to feelings at times, and maybe moments like Korra's quip at the president was just done for some easy comedy. But there's a line where character progression starts feeling ignored. Moving forward I really hope she gains some resolve to solve any issues involving the portal, and goes through the proper channels while doing so. Or at least have Asami give her some guidance. Someone's gotta be an adult.
>>
>>2391891

>Furthermore, he's a villain and they want him to have a motivation for going against the heroes besides he's a villain.
"I'm being paid to fuck shit up" is a tried and true character motivation. This is just to give the antagonist a more interesting character design. And make him stronger, maybe?

Because before that portion was spirit wilds it was part of the city that had infrastructure which humans used for economical and/or residential reasons.

I wonder if that bingo space about adapting spirituality will come into play since the portal is also disrupting radio waves. Great job leaving it open, Avatar.

>Roku reprimanded Sozin and made it known that the Avatar wouldn't stand for conquest which overrode cultures and the harmony of the 4 Nations.
Well in that case how about when Roku took over Aang to push that ex Fire Nation general to force him to teach Aang Fire Bending?
Ah but let me guess, that doesn't count now?
>>
>>2392596
So how come he didn't just sic the cops on the Airbenders instead of making himself look suspicious and send Triads?
>>
>>2392723
It could be this is the first time he was able to go see his property so he didn't account for people to be what he sees as loitering around the place. He probably didn't count on resistance especially since the Avatar was gone. Part 2 will probably have the police show up and Mako and Bolin will be on his side and Korra will be like she was in season 2 and yell at Mako for the Necessary Drama.

>>2392650
A White Lotus member not teaching the Avatar? The ex-general was withholding teaching Aang firebending which is necessary for the Avatar to master all four elements so he could defeat the Fire Nation and stop the 100 Year War that has decimated the nations. Roku appears without Aang's full conscious effort and informs the ex-general who "he" is and how they are capable.
While Korra used it willingly against an individual who has a legal claim to land that shouldn't have a portal there as even Korra says that this portal was a mistake to that rock spirit. And even Korra sees that the portal is causing problems what with how the spirits are agitated by the people milling about.

So one example helps the world and the other is Korra trying to help the spirits who do not even want to be there in the first place at the expense of humanity.
>>
>>2392740
Aang was clearly not ready and yet Roku forced the dudes hand. You don't get to pick what amounts to 'bullying' and what not because clearly everything Korra will do will never be right for you but when other Avatars do it they are good boys and girls.

Or it turns out he was always on the police's watch list for shady shit. Are you then gonna complain that plot goes in the hero's favor?

I enjoyed it. It's nice to see Korra hasn't turned into the Buddha. Spirits are still ungrateful assholes. Korra STILL feels that the spirit portal will bring balance, just like at the end of Book Two. Is this an Avatar precognition thing, because Mike has never explained WHY Korra thinks that?
I can't believe I'm asking this, but where's Varrick? Zhu Li is no Varrick. I like Raiko. The coward rep is unfair. What the hell was he supposed to when Kuvira was about to annihilate his entire army? Korra remains way better a public speaking than you'd expect anyone raised in isolation on a compound to be. How much CAN Future Industries donate? Asami lost another huge factory to Kuvira's beam, and her HQ to the blast that made the portal. Kya's little aside felt hamfisted. There's no need for RC to be homophobic. Could have just said "different world - different attitudes." Togusa's a pretty neat villain. It felt too short!

>I'm glad too. For a moment there I thought she would have had some genuine character development after four seasons
Oh, so were on the "Korra didn't change at all" spiel today? It's a nice change from the "Korra changed too much" spiel. It reminds me of when /co/ would whine that Korra was too strong or too weak within the same thread.

>But they need Korra to cause problems in order for a story to happen, even if the problem is not sticking around to discuss things.
Ah yes, as you bitched two threads ago: Only Korra has agency in this world; but Aang was not responsible for any disasters his actions caused.

>>2392199
>yet these writers think they can write so they put forth whatever and call it character development and shove it in my face.
Ci-ci-ci-citation needed.

>Korra antagonizes the person who owned that property and then asks Raiko if the city can buy that land for the spirits. The spirits have a whole dimension to themselves.
How can you be this obtuse?
"Hey, let's buy the bridge to the neighbouring country so we can establish proper diplomatic relations."
"Buy them a bridge!? They have a whole country!"

>Korra bites back at her father when the last time we saw them interacting was when Korra ran away. What a horrible reintroduction to their dynamic.
They were together at the wedding. Or do you think Tonraq travelled all the way to RC for Varrick's sake? Also, stop pretending you're CONCERNED about "their dynamic". Korra's relationship with Tonraq has never been important, even in the godawful second season. It's always been far less significant than her focus with Tenzin

>A protagonist who has to save the world and they actually have living parents and this is what we see of them.
Yeah; it's great. She touchy about a touchy subject, overreacts, and admits to Asami that she's in the wrong. It's almost like... like... she's a character... and stuff!

I'd need to rewatch the Wan part and the Book 2 finale, but I get the impression that maybe at the end of his life Wan felt remorse that he wasn't able to make peace between humans and spirits, and that closing the portals didn't actually bring peace either as humans fought each other. Korra felt that when she connected with Wan and she wants to correct that hoping that she can make it work.

Plus her direct predecessor believed in the "four nations should be four" ideal so hard that he was ready to flush out generations of cross-nation rapport at one point. Granted, Aang did reconsider, which is why we have Republic City. But his legacy is still a very heavily divided world, and has that actually brought peace? Not really.

Korra sees and understands this history in her own - albeit slighly naïve - way and actively looks for an alternative solution instead of trying to fight every fire in every corner of the world until she's dead from exhaustion. She's got a bunch of really powerful backers-up to work with too so her idea isn't really any worse than the next one.

Would assume at least some of the spirits that were left lingering around the human side of the portal are some kind of vanguard to keep an eye out on humans that would try to do the spirit world harm. Frankly I'm surprised Raiko hasn't ordered a similar bunch of humans on the spirit side of the portal, seeing as the majority of Republic City seems to be of the opinion that all spirits are horrible scary monsters.

And just as the people of the city would condemn the entire spiritkind at the drop of a hat based on the aggression of one spirit, the entire spiritkind would probably do the same for humans.

Not a lot of understanding there in either direction thanks to the millenia of separation I guess.
>>

Would be interesting to see Korra actually become that bridge again that the Avatar is supposed to be but became kind of forgotten in the times before Aang it seems because Kuruk did such a shit job that Koh went after him. It would also give Korra a bit purpose in a world that 'doesn't need the Avatar anymore' due to having it's own weird form of globalism going on.

I just finished rewatching LoK before I read the comic. Is it just me or is pretty much everything Kuvira ever did or said completely fucking retarded? Somehow she managed to bullshit her way to become literally Hitler while making the worst logical decisions and gambles at every turn, uttering complete nonsense regardless of whether her entire freaking army was within earshot or not. And nobody in her government or dominion ever thought to doubt her crock? Sow seeds of dissent from within or something? Not like the Earth Kingdom is the largest nation in the world, and it's completely impossible for her to be everywhere at once or anything
>>

>Is it just me or is pretty much everything Kuvira ever did or said completely fucking retarded?
So like Hitler?
Or more appropriate for the setting: like Ozai?
>>
>>2395061
>So like Hitler?
I'm not all that savvy on what Hitler or other real world tyrants actually told their citizens to get their support, but I doubt it was anything as dumb as the drivel Kuvira fed hers. Or maybe it was, people as a mass entity aren't very smart I guess.

Besides, I would assume Unalaq's little plan to unite the water tribes made worldwide news, and he turned out to be a spirit monster who almost destroyed the world. Now Kuvira's doing literally the same thing and the people of the Earth Kingdom are like "k".

At least Ozai had the decency to be up-front about his shameless plan to just take over all of the world with raw military power.

I'll try to give a short list, ignoring minor or more subjective moments such as Asami looking more or less concerned than other characters in a given scene:

-It must be pointed that right from the start and after the initial reluctance on Korra's side they actually get along well. They never blame each other for their issues with Mako through Books 1 and 2.

-(As a happy accident although there are no yuri intentions here, it almost looks like Asami is hitting on Korra on the pool and the car race, because that was the episode where Asami upgrades from background character to major character, we don't still know wich side she'll be on and they probably wanted to make her appear bold when talking to Korra. While not intentional, this helped the ship sail)

-So, right after Makorra is finished at the end of Book 2, we happen to have a scene where Asami is hanging with Korra for no reason, she handles her the keys of the car (looking at her kinda like in the racing episode and this time it is NOT unintentional on the writers' part) and we see them getting along really, really well. While not a romantic moment, the tone and placement of the scene at the first post-Makorra episode would have been enough to raise all alarms, had Asami been a guy.

-Generally speaking, they spend the majority of Book 3 hanging together, they troll Mako together, train together, they sit next to each other when having meals, etcetera. We also get them paired by circumstances all along the season and we get scenes such as the one of Asami riding away with an unconscious Korra which again would have been seen as way suspicious if Asami had been a guy.

-Asami offers to be the one to watch over Korra as she meditates, when there were plenty of friends around to do that, many of which were probably more qualified for the task. We've seen similar scenes before, with P'li watching over Zaheer, and Katara watching over Aang.
>>
>>2395150
-Asami apparently takes care of Korra while she can't walk, with all the tasks, work and intimacy it involves. She takes her hand and says -She- wants -Her- to know -She- is there for -Her-, if -She- ever wants to talk, or -[long pause]-, -Anything-. She later offers to go with her to the fucking pole and stay with her while she recovers, even though she's got a company to run.

-Korra receives many letters while in the pole, eventually only replies to Asami, and decides to go to Republic City after that.

-Hugs Asami so tight that the animators miscolor Korra's abdomen. Blushes when Asami compliments her hair and she compliments back. Has a much shorter hug with Mako, and she's looking to the side as she walks into his arms. Asami gets mad at Korra when she suggests that her father might be manipulating her, but the amount of -You- and -Me- as well as -Three Years- makes it clear that it's not actually the comment about her father what makes her react so strongly. Korra immediatly tries to apologize and calm Asami, as opposed to how she argues with Mako. During the action and chasing scenes in the episode Korra and Asami are well coordinated while Mako is arguing with both. The final hug has Korra and Asami mostly hugging each other while Mako is hugging both from the side.

-Once Korra is settled back at the Air Temple Island Asami is apparently spending her time there with her and offering her some tea and talking to her about avatar stuff and encouraging her?

-Finale.
>>
>>2395152
If you want to show him specific clips, depending on how much time you've got to get him convinced, I'd choose:
-maybe the pool and car race scenes from episode 1.07 The Aftermach to show how they generally get along and how Asami looks at Korra, even if unintentionally.
-maybe the car driving scene from episode 3.01 A Breath of Fresh Air
-the Book 3 finale
-maybe the parts where Asami offers to go to the pole and where Korra replies to her letter in episode 4.02 Korra Alone
-relevant scenes from episode 4.07 The Reunion
-Book 4 finale, I suppose?
-explain the rest
>>

I'd wager there are still some stragglers left, some might even want to bring the rest under control and continue. That's what I was mainly wondering earlier, it's not like Kuvira can hold the entire fuckhueg nation under her iron fist at once. I guess the people just resigned to the second tyranny within the same year after a short glimmer of hope.

Moreso than the internal politics I was amazed by Kuvira's personal disregard for how she looks in the eyes of her followers, most of the stuff that came out of her mouth were just flat out insanity even when you don't think that hard about it.

Unite all of the cities in the Earth Kingdom even if it means killing everyone in said cities? Sure! Unprovoked attack against the capital of the free world? Sounds good! Blame everything on the opposition at all times like a small child? Of course!

this! Korrasami was the best thing about the series, in my opinion, but the fact that they go to another dimension and come back to take multiple pages to tell us about the history of gay people in Avatar and why it's okay because the bad guys hated the gays... super hammy and lazy. just let them be a couple, don't shout at us about why it's okay. especially if it's already a part of history

also, LoK felt incredibly... clumsy to me with its storytelling. the first half of the first season or so felt ok, with Korra being "I'm the avatar now deal with it" style of asskicker to contrast Aang's gentle and helpful style

then she sort of gets treated like shit periodically, constantly tricked and manipulated, gives up on her hardass persona because despite being stubborn, everyone tells her "no, avatars are peaceful and spiritual" and she latches onto that pretty randomly, gets kidnapped and btfo a lot, and her problems are solved by learning another power instead of through personal growth or it apparently doesn't improve by the later seasons from all I hear.

I know a mom exactly like Aang IRL. Three sons, middle one is really good at hockey, gets way more leeway in pretty much everything. Said mom loves the other sons just as well, the middle one just gets extra way easier.

It's really easy to be alienated as a kid, simply by not having as much as the next kid, especially if he's your own blood. Children obviously can't operate on an adult's level in a lot of the concepts that are required to understand something like favoritism, which leads to unhappy childhood memories no matter how well you understand those things later in life.

I doubt Aang was intending to be a garbage dad, and I doubt he actually was all that terrible in the first place. Those janky childhood memories of unfair sharing between siblings add up. Plus he did have some symphatizable circumstances.
>>
>>2400391
She is capable of making babies unless she is infertile. Bumi and Kya, Aang's children, could have airbending kids if they end up having children since we know bending can skip generations or manifest in children despite the parents not being benders.

>>2400541
Does this mother that you know have a partner? Is this partner like Katara? You know, Aang's wife? The woman who doesn't take no for an answer and would call out her husband on his behavior and would never let her children feel abandoned.
Aang lacks the capacity to be a garbage dad since he'd have Katara and his friends with him.
>>
>>2400602
Yet Katara clearly failed in this as Aang is still a very selfish man.

You are right about the baby thing. I'd forgotten about that.

Genealogy really is a complected thing. I'm the perfect example of this as I take after my mother's side of the family(Greek), while my siblings are total Anglos.

>Cranky, selfish, kid with responsibility issues turned into a cranky, selfish adult with responsibility issues and later an old cranky irresponsible crone
>Disgustingly lovey dovey couple grew up into an assumedly disgustingly lovey dovey family with regular-ass minor family issues

What about all that isn't par for the course writingwise? Also I have no idea why so many peeps think Aang was a shitty father, there's no other evidence to support that claim besides Kya and Bumi's slight indignation at Tenzin having been the favorite. They obviously don't hate Aang's guts for what he did to them.

It's almost like peeps in this thread haven't ever seen what actually shitty parents can be like.

I can agree with her on that. There's a lot of others things they can do and just have the two girls be in a relationship without having to drag out a history book all of a sudden. But Mike brings out the history notes and calls attention to it when there's already problems in sight before them.
They also push aside how the people of RC typically react as a group to make it seem like they are okay with Korra's actions.

Cover 1 had her waterbending and cover 2 had her earthbending.

Are they distancing her from firebending or something? I feel like they used to have her always firebend.
>>
>>2401454
The covers never had her firebending. 1 had her punching with no element, 2 has her in that shitty spirit floating stance, 3 has her with sex hair and her back turned, and 4 has her standing with her back facing Kuvira. Though there are probably variations of the covers so maybe I'm only recalling what I've seen in stores.
>>
>>2401454
>I feel like they used to have her always firebend
Yes, inside the show proper because it was the element she identified with the most instead of water. Bryke went out of their way to mention how fire is the easiest for her to use.

Now I'd like to call attention to those Suki level lips Asami is sporting there.

She's also on the other side of them where the brothers are on the side with the police who are standing on the other side of the airbenders. Mako and Bolin are probably going to be called in with Lin to work against the airbenders who want to keep the portal free from the city's influence. While the police are going to be asked to get the squatters off the property of the person who owns the place like how it would logically occur for the owner to take action.
Asami will be on the airbenders side.

>>2401476
>Bryke went out of their way to mention how fire is the easiest for her to use.
She can firebend as she is passionate about being the Avatar like how Zuko was passionate about capturing the Avatar and restoring his honor. Then when Zuko changes his life he had to also change his drive in firebending. Yet Korra constantly doesn't know what she's doing in her goal to be Avatar and flails about. Fire's also the element that always fails her when she relies on it. Even in her love life.
>>
>>2401486
Well, Asami got all the money. Though who knows the cover could be intentionally misleading, since I doubt that the dude that owns the land will still be an issue by the time the final part is out.
>>

She's using all four elements on the cover. Water in one hand, earth in the other and air and fire to propel herself up. Look at the bottom of the cover.

That's not it though. Some posters use hyperbole and say Aang was a terrible father. He's not Ozai levels of terrible, but he was still written as a negligent parent for reasons that do not make sense for his character; especially when the people who are around him would never let that happen given what we know from their history.
>>
>>2401518
Aang actually has three reasons:
1. He's the Avatar.
2. He's the last of his people.
3. He has always been selfish.

Now as for his friends straightening him out. You forget that he isn't a bad person, he's just the kind of dad that isn't always there when you need him. So it's not the kind of thing most people pick up on. Not to mention they're all in the same boat.

I guess calling him terrible may be a bit much, but you can't say it isn't justifiable. Both in and out of context.

I don't think it's out-of-character. There's different levels of neglect, and favoring one child over others is on the low end of the spectrum. It's not like he ditched them all and went roaming around the world or something.
>>
>>2402042
>and favoring one child over others is on the low end of the spectrum.
'Sup Ursa?

It's out-of-character because of how quickly Bumi and Kya snap out of it despite holding on to it for so many years. Plus how Aang had a favorite in the first place when any of his kids could have airbending children themselves, and how the air acolytes were keeping the culture alive. Kya and Bumi could be spiritually inclined like how the air acolytes chose to be and keep the air nomad culture alive in that way.

>>2401550
>he's just the kind of dad that isn't always there when you need him.
According to what Bumi and Kya say. It's all told and not shown which goes back to the bad writing inclination the show put forth in many cases. Not that we needed to see Bumi and Kya being left behind from air nomad culture field trips, because it doesn't make sense in the first place. Aang is the last of his people and he values family, hence why he chooses Katara every time.
>>
>>2401891

>>
>>2402090
The reasons that are given boil down to: it's fine. My arguments come down to much the same: it's not fine. It's all opinions and since more people are saying it's fine, then it's fine.

I see it as bad writing, making Aang have this fault that doesn't make sense given his character. It's like Korra asking Raiko to buy the land where the portal is so they can help the spirits, despite the city not having money at the time given how so many people are displaced and the infrastructure is destroyed. Or how Korra won't close the portal despite now even spirits asking her to close it and the portal interfering with electronic communications. Things are just happening much like how Aang just left his other two kids behind and Katara was okay with this and probably ignored them too. Just like how the Avatar was raised in ignorance despite being the peace officer of the world. Just like how we are told that Korra is finally connected to her spiritual self and then season 2 happens.

Aang had to transmit everything he knew of airbending and Air Nomad culture or risk it being lost forever while also supervising the growth of RC and doing his avatar stuff. I doubt he liked ignoring Bumi and Kya, but it tends to happen when you have enormous responsibilities.
>>
>>2402104
>making Aang have this fault that doesn't make sense given his character
You keep saying that.

Yes you have given some fine examples of bad writing there, but Aang isn't one of them. As others have pointed out: this isn't out of character for Aang. Have you forgotten how shit of an Avatar he actually was?

Granted he's not the worst by a long shot, but he has done this sort of thing before. Jeopardising the whole world at times might I add. Aang has always been a selfish child at heart. Something he never grew out of.

If anything, being a selfish child at heart would mean him taking all his children along even if they didn't want to go. Since he did have to transmit everything he knew of the air nomads and their culture, he would best do it with multiple people. If Tenzin dies, then the culture would die with Tenzin if no one else is versed in it or did not have the potential to have airbending children like Bumi and Kya would be capable of doing so.
He chose the air nation in his actions as Avatar, it is something his character does. He didn't have to supervise the growth of RC as the United Republic of Nations isn't just that city (even if the show keeps wanting to make it seem that way.) And the only evidence we have of Aang still being a child at heart is that picture the fisherman had of him doing the air trick with that food.

You know, like a person who is connected to their spiritual self (season 1) and who is examining the life they are living and the lives of those around them (season 2.)

Why would she be if she didn't know it was taboo in the first place? She runs to go tell her parents so she's not touchy about it, why would she be if she doesn't know that there is something wrong with it?

And that whole learning thing and not suddenly turning into the buddha, why is it that only she has to make mistakes that are front and center all the time and have to relearn things again? It's an ensemble cast and shows that deal in overarching plots and characters give something for everyone. Yet she's the one that obviously has a lot more to learn (despite already knowing how to connect with others and listen to them) and literally being the buddha with her past four seasons. This is another banal excuse for Korra to fall into the self-indulgent neurosis that plagues her character in the show.

She obviously does know that there is a taboo, but (correctly) believes her parents won't give a shit. But she interprets Tonraq's advice as a qualifier of his support of the pair.

>And that whole learning thing and not suddenly turning into the buddha, why is it that only she has to make mistakes that are front and center all the time
The same reason Zuko did. It's her character.

>and have to relearn things again?
She came out to her parents before?

>Yet she's the one that obviously has a lot more to learn
She's also shown to be effortlessly able to speak publicly, to sway the people, to motivate others, and is the most proactive character in her plans.

>and literally being the buddha with her past four seasons
Wut. Surely Aang's various chats with past Avatars, and Korra's vision of Wan showed that spiritual enlightenment doesn't suddenly remove all your character flaws, nuances and quirks.

>This is another banal excuse for Korra to fall into the self-indulgent neurosis that plagues her character in the show.
She's calm with the spirits, reflective with Asami calm with Tenzin. (relatively) calm with Raiko, and open to all of her friends. If she didn't have that ill-tempered moment; you and concerned buddies would be complaining that she was dull and written to be perfect.

>The same reason Zuko did. It's her character.
Zuko was the enemy who turned to the side of those who wanted to stop the Fire Nation's conquest. His arc is built with overcoming his mistakes since he joins the good guys but also shows that he is a good guy at heart from the start since he was against those generals tactics during that meeting.
Korra is already the good guy. It would work if Korra was the antagonist or the anti-hero but she's not.

She's clueless with the spirits, she was already calm with them back in season 4. She reflects on Kya's exposition after walking out of a conversation turned one-sided closed minded outburst with her parents. She has no reason to not be calm with Tenzin as nothing has happened to put them at odds with each other. Raiko is essentially written to be as ridiculous as his season 2 ending self when he rejects even Tenzin siding with Korra and her outburst at the end (yes you say relative) coupled with her conversation is ridiculous. She wants to prioritize the spirits over the people after she went and made that show of force senselessly.

And speaking publicly, she said empty platitudes to the crowd that a politician would talk. We won't know how her words influence the crowds until the next part of the story as her speaking to them did nothing. Her talk with that guy who was going to jump off the bridge in 3 had an immediate effect the watcher could take away: he doesn't jump and joins them. In the comic, the people cheer and then we change scenes. Which does make sense, but they weren't rioting and they were already homeless since the girls went on their vacation and are still homeless afterward. Also Korra is reactive, not proactive. The most proactive thing she has done is keep the portals opened. And all it has done is brought conflict that is unnecessary.
