On March 8 2017, A Kiss For The Petals - Maidens of Michael was delisted from Steam. No explanation was given by Valve or MangaGamer.

MangaGamer made a Statement on March 10: https://twitter.com/MangaGamer/status/972688493213306881
>We’re aware of the situation with Maiden of Michael’s Steam version and are actively working to resolve the situation. We’ll update you all when we have more information.

Craig Donson has given no statement but deleted every reference to Maidens being on Steam from Petals Garden, and removed all references to MG and Sonohana from his Twitter profile. Pic is most recent tweet, showing only that picture, a few hours after MG's tweet. https://twitter.com/AXYPB/status/972354842969636864

A known troll/scam artist is claiming responsibility on the Steam forums (still up) and Twitter.

Some coverage of the delisting: http://operationrainfall.com/2018/03/10/opinon-maidens-of-michael-delisted/

As of March 11 there is still no word from Valve for why it was delisted.

This is just everything that was posted in the last thread

>While you can stretch the meaning of sodomy to mean non-vaginal intercourse, the term is commonly not used that way. Besides, that also ignores the fact that there are various marital aids that can facilitate vaginal intercourse between women.
as much as i appreciate someone actually covering this the fact that they took obvious bait this hard amazes me.
>>
>>2566113
I wish that the troll was banned of the Steam game section though (since Steam bans people anyway, one mustn't be selective). He has said his fill and is just getting very annoying, and I see he is continuing his trolling on that blog now.

Even though the situation likely isn't fully or even the cause of the troll, I'm befuddled as to why someone would crusade this hard against a niche game. It's not even aimed at feminists or SJWs. They hate it. Erica refused to cover it on her blog, claiming it's pedo.

Anyhow, I hope the misunderstanding between Valve and Mangagamer gets sorted out soon. Perhaps one day Valve would hammer out that AO rating section that everyone is asking for, which would get rid of all these problems for good.
>>
>>2566130
If anything this just shows how low quality Steam management is. As for the guy, whether or not he did get the game taken down, he's just an attention whore and people should stop feeding him.
>>
>>2566152
I don't think they have their A-Team managing relations with niche hentai game producers when they also have AAA titles and massive companies to deal with.

It's just easier to pull it, it won't hurt their bottom line.

Wouldn't it be better to buy it in Mangagamer anyway? If steam cant handle this, they don't deserve a cut of the profit.
>>
>>2566221
>More people browse stream
Really the only reason we give a crap about it. The last Yuri game brought to steam got so popular that they made another edition of it with new art and fully voiced story.
>>

>I'm befuddled as to why someone would crusade this hard against a niche game.
Or why they aren't going after any other eroge with schoolgirls.
>>
>>2566221
Because paying something in dollars while you live in another country is a huge hassle. Also, steam gives more visibility than other platforms (see Kindred Spirits or Flowers, for example).
>>
>>2566221
Pretty much. People only all over VNs on Steam because they want the medium to gain more exposures and go into the mainstreams. But it honestly not worth the hassle for some titles and SonoHana seems like one of them.
>>
>>2566253
I don't know, if Sonohana gets more love outside Japan maybe that'll convince Fuguriya to make SOMETHING new
>>

That one vn with art by the guy who drew the tiny evil series got removed for the same reason. Sakuragame had to pull a couple of games for similar reasons.

Pissed at the removal. I went with Steam because of price adjustments based on regions/countries.

I'd pay twice as much if I go with Mangagamer. On the flipside that version is DRM free and has the R18 scenarios and CG.

>>2567396
There is an R18 patch for the Steam release so that wasn't a concern, though being DRM free certainly is an advantage for MG.

>That or maybe they quietly fired him because this was his mistake and they don't want him saying anything that could hurt their case
Yeah this makes a lot of sense. It'd explain craig's silence, and I don't think gaben would've taken sonohana off steam if the game files didn't have porn in them.
>>

>I don't think gaben would've taken sonohana off steam if the game files didn't have porn in them.
Wait, how do you know that? And is that Craig's fault?
>>
>>2579398
I don't know that, but it would make sense because there are tons of porn games on steam where you have to download a patch to access the adult content. Presumably for those, the patch contains the actual porn, whereas what you get off steam is just the game.

It would make sense if sonohana on the other hand had the porn in the steam files and the patch was just a simple file edit that allows the game to access the adult content, which I can see why gaben would take issue with, since it means that actual adult content is hosted on steam.

If this is indeed the case, it would be craig's fault since he's the (only?) programmer for sonohana's localization.
>>
>>2579398
Craig is the programmer so if something like that gets MG in hot water then he's at fault.

Think about it though: Any time anything at all happens with Sonohana and the English localizations, Craig is the first to speak up about it. If it's a "bug" then he would mention that a fix was coming. The fact that he hasn't said anything either way (or anything at all) must mean that he's either not knowledgeable about it or isn't allowed too. Even then you would think he would at least tweet about literally anything else but he hasn't, and also not even Ralen has heard anything from him. So I'm sure that not only has he been fired from MG because his work got them in big trouble, he probably killed himself later too.

He has a private Twitter so he might have explained it all there, but it's locked.
>>
>>2579718
>It would make sense if sonohana on the other hand had the porn in the steam files and the patch was just a simple file edit that allows the game to access the adult content, which I can see why gaben would take issue with, since it means that actual adult content is hosted on steam.

I ripped the files. This is not the case, to my knowledge. The content added by the patch is contained within the patch.
>>
>>2579718
There are adult games on Steam that have an uncensor patch that's a couple of KBs in size and that never got them into any trouble.

I kinda feel bad for Craig now since he worked on it for years, then he makes one little mistake that a concern troll could latch to and it's all gone. Keep in mind he flew to Japan and met the producer, which is probably how this was possible in the first place. I'd kill myself too if I spent all that money and effort just for one single faggot to turn it into muh censorship thinkpieces and Valve suddenly being the biggest asshole in the world to you.
>>
>>2579718
>actual adult content is hosted on steam.
I will never understand why games about actual dickwagging is allowed on Steam and stuff like this isn't.
>>
If anyone is to blame about Steam's recent crackdown on eroge from what I understand it would actually be Darkher Studios for basically posting links to adult patches in stickies.

As if /u/ needed another reason to hate AJTilley
>>
If Steam doesn't let this title back on or demand strict censorship then it could set a dangerous precedent for visual novels on Steam as a whole.
>>
>>2579824
Because those games aren't usually reported to valve by some GOD HATES FAGS troll.
>>
>>2579814
>one single faggot to turn it into muh censorship thinkpieces
I don't know about that. For example, Hanako said that her games get reported all the time on Steam and so far nothing's happened. There has to be another reason than just one person reporting and the hard part is that we don't know what is even going on.
>>
>>2579718
If anyone is at fault, it's Steam for letting the game on in the first place.

Look, we obviously have no qualms about the content in SonoHana, but we should remember it is still a game about underage girls fucking each other. (And one teacher fucking her fifth grade pupil).
That is never going to fly for the general audience, and probably shouldn't be put up on a platform for them.
>>
>>2579722
Somehow I don't think Craig got fired from MG. He took off his Sonohana banner on Twitter but his bio now says:
>Opinions are not representative of third parties.
If he would have been fired I don't think he would've cared. What I do think is that he is in the dog house so to say.
>>
>>2580294
A lot of people have something like "Opinions are my own" in their bio just to have it. He changed it to that some time between March 8-10 but left it like that, and said opinions are still up on his Twitter along with all the promo for the Steam version.

In the end, even though it sucks that Craig's work in getting on Steam in the first place ended up being all for nothing, we can blame him too. I think the most likely story is that he ran from the situation as fast as possible because it was too much for him. Thsi is what happens when you get too involved in a fandom, something bad happens, you can't save it and now you have a meltdown and want to die. And given how he's on the spectrum, that might not have sounded like such a bad idea to him.
>>
No one would kill themselves after such "mysterious" and senseless event, even if he got fired, just because we don't know steam's actual response.
Anyone would at least try and see if the thing you've been working so hard on is back up again, even if you're no longer part of the project.
>>
Any update on the Steam issue or did they all go silent?
>>
>>2584759
Steam has recently gone from laissez faire to responding to complaints and taking/banning games. One example I saw was an airplane sim that was so bad that it got complaints and taken down.
It could be ban situation where enough trolls+moms groups sent complaints. Bad timing and the western audience is probably not ready for this game.

Problem is there's really way distribution platform for games with sexual content. And even if there was it wouldn't reach even a fraction of the user base of Steam.

Seems selling SFW versions with adult patches being available elsewhere is the online option in the foreseeable future.
Hanabira probably got hit because of loli.
>>
>>2585387
>Hanabira probably got hit because of loli.
But Nekopara and others are still on the store
>>
>>2585389
Yeah it's weird that of all the games that could have been deleted, it was Maidens and only Maidens. There's a bunch more games with content that's just as bad. I'm starting to think the troll just hates Sonohana and nothing else.
>>
Maidens got hit because of that scene where Risa watches certain someones for a brief moment, which wasn't removed on the unpatched version, nothing more and nothing less.
This sort of sexual content was already adressed as per Kindred Spirits on the Roof scenes, and while the ages on the SFW version are ambiguous, they should just simply have put the same warning at the startup of the game the NSFW version has (every character is +18...).
However, it probably still would have got taken down after such a report, but maybe we wouldn't have to worry and wait so much now.
>>
>>2585458
>Maidens got hit because of that scene where Risa watches certain someones for a brief moment
but there wasnt anything graphical about that scene iirc
>>
>>2585458
Other games that got taken off Steam were allowed to come back with a patch that removes them. What's holding this game up then? It wouldn't be hard to remove that scene.

>>
>>2585458

I imagine the reason Maidens got hit was only because the story the guy told valve about being worried about being arrested over the game's content resonated with the person reviewing it and they reacted to take it down. MG is willing to make changes to get it back on steam, but valve has to date not replied to a single one of their emails. Can't really do much if they won't even communicate.

Maybe we should start contacting gaming media sites and link them this stuff including the steam forum, since it looks like the only way to get steams attention is by either being popular or with bad publicity.
Maybe contacting Jim Sterling would be a good idea too since he's know for criticizing steam for years now.

The more people contact and mail them the better our chance are to be noticed.

Especially one where a teacher fucks an 11 year old
>>
>>2590490
I doubt that anyone is going to fight for the integrity of SonoHana, especially not someone with a reputation.

Normies just aren't going to fuck with a game where a teacher fucks an elementary schooler, even if said elementary schooler is totes 18.

It's regrettable, but we probably just need to accept this as another dark chapter in the franchise's life.
>>
>>2590494
>>2590495
>>2590515
It doesn't matter what game it is, it's the reason why it was pulled. It could've been some asset flip shovelware or Episode 3, it's still worth telling.
>>
>>2590529
It does matter, because context is important.
The problem with SonoHana is that I don't believe that Steam is under any misunderstanding.

If someone complained that the game should be removed because it has child fucking... well, they're not mistaken.

If Steam comes out with a statement that they don't want a game that positively portrays having a sexual relationship with a minor, then that would indeed be grounds for SonoHana's removal.

We clearly don't see a problem with it because it's fictional, but I get the feeling that if this particular drama ever gained traction then most people would side with Steam.
People have gotten on their case for a lot of stupid shit they've done, but most people don't see anything involving sex with children to tenable.
>>
>>2590539
They do have the "everyone in this game is 18+" thing, though. Meaning it has no children fucking.
Other games have similar content, too. Kindred Spirits, for example.
And technically, again, there are no children fucking, only drawings of one. "Ceci n'est pas une loli"
>>
>>2590559
I have no idea why you keep trying to insist that any of this matters. The mainstream opinion is never going to side against Steam's desire to not be associated with a porn game where an elementary schooler fucks her teacher. If you think throwing technicalities at it will change that then I don't know in which world you are living but it's certainly not the real world.
>>
>>2590600
>I have no idea why you keep trying to insist that any of this matters.
MG does.

>>2590391
The statement is out, everyone's more pissed off than ever, various MG staff are ringing in on Twitter, except Craig. If anyone would have a statement about this whole mess, it would be him.
>The game’s removal was not the fault of any of the game’s localization staff and no one has been fired or punished as a result.

If nobody got fired and Craig is still not posting anything, then this statement must be a roundabout way to admit that although they didn't fire him, Craig must have quit in disgust.
>>
>>2590659
>If nobody got fired and Craig is still not posting anything, then this statement must be a roundabout way to admit that although they didn't fire him, Craig must have quit in disgust.
You have to understand that his passion for SonoHana was on a level close to obsession or insanity, he most likely resigned and is blaming himself for everything.
The series mean everything to him and having it taken away from him forcefully must have been a big shock.

I love the series like most of you here but it's nothing compared to him. Didn't he even fly to Japan to meet the creators or was it something else?

>>
>>2590719
This was exactly what I was trying to get at. No other explanation for why he suddenly went quiet makes sense now (iirc he even went to GLF one year and got his picture taken at St. Michaels booth), so he left because was convinced early that 1. he did everything wrong and/or 2. that someone could manage to attack Sonohana so effectively, and he saw it as an attack on himself. So he left to protect both himself and Sonohana. Unfortunately he decided this before they could put out a statement.

New Generation is the only nukige to make me feel so uneasy about the characters taking their shirts off.
>>
>>2591413
>nukige
Anon. A nukige is something that is meant to masturbate to. You can't do that to this game. Even if we go past the not exactly great art, each scene is like 20 lines. They last at most ONE MINUTE.

If you look at new gen as a nukige, it's one hell of an awful game. If you don't, it's ok though. And given that there's only like 10 minutes of lewd content in each route, it shouldn't be that hard to not look at it as a nukige.

that is just said to try and have the games be avaible for everyone to buy without caring much.
it makes a lot of sense, considering it's used to avoid being detained for having pornography of underage children.
since, you know, drawn fictional characters don't have a physical age and such so it's completely retarded this is even a thing.

We hate Craig because he's an IRL autistic moron. He even admitted that while MG was trying to fight Steam over Maidens, he ran away and cut himself for 2 months straight because he's too much of a thin-skinned coward to stand up for his own work. Sonohana is dead now, and it would have been better off without him because he decided that noone should be allowed to work on translations except him. And it being taken off Steam and the way he reacted proved that he wasn't a good fit as the English spokesman for the series. MG should have gotten someone else to translate it, it's not like he's the only one who likes it, and now they pay the price for their terrible hiring policies.

>we're going to have to reconsider what degree of content has to be cut in order to retail on Steam. That includes making the decision to withhold certain titles from Steam that we would have sold there otherwise under the old policies and content guidelines."
Welp, no more Sonohana on Steam, ever

>tfw you wanna fuck your relative who was drawn by a different artist
>>
>>2626519
Did they seriously reuse Kaede's design for a new character?

This franchise is floundering so bad. Someone please throw it a life preserver.
>>
>>2626519
Who's Kaede mk2?
>>
>>2627810
>>2626519
Is that peko art?
>>
>>2628149
No it's made by the artist in charge of the nurse series and new generation branch
>>

It's happening...?

lol nope

>@steam_games still refuses to speak to us developers about Maidens of Michael. They're not even responding to us or allowing us a chance to appeal the decision, let alone make whatever changes they may deem necessary. Even though the title is perfectly fine, legal, & permissible

I would say to sell the IP if they are going to do nothing with it but knowing how this things go they would probably repurpose the series and make it into another self-insert garbage
>>
I still have hope for OVA 2 or a anime series

How long are they going to drag this out
>>
>>2632662
Until they decide to announce a new game so never
>>
>>2632724
Let's be real, even if they do make new game we will never see it in english
>>
https://www.reddit.com/r/yuri/comments/8pauzo/explicit_yuri_games_to_be_freely_allowed_on_steam/
>>
So I finally got rid of every debt I had, I have real money to spend and they pull the plug on maidens? Is there any other platform that sells the game besides steam?
>>
>>2632911
Well, yes of course: the people who actually translated the game.
https://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php?goods_type=0&product_code=1044
>>
>>2632886
This can't be real.
>>
>>2632911
>>2632954
And gog.com sometime soon
>>
>>2632886
It's literally the same news as before, man
And now even worse troll games are being released on steam, just go to the upcoming tab and see
This is just plain laughable at this point
>>
>>2633068
They deleted a few """""simulators"""""" since they posted the blog but they're never gonna get rid of all the biggest trolling shit

Meanwhile Steam is still cold-shouldering MangaGamer over Maidens because I guess they think it's illegal.
>>
>>2633077
It's hard to say. I don't think their new policy has taken full effect yet. The impression I got from the blog post was that the floodgates would open after they implemented tagging and filtering changes
>>
>>2633085
Is there any precedent for a game that got deleted from Steam under suspicious circumstances to just come back after a long time?
>>
>>2632911
It should be back on steam soon.
>>
>>2633111
in Valve Time™
>>
>>2633121
Probably before the next TF2/CS:GO update.
>>
>>2633124
Or right after Episode 3.
>>
>>2633077
it's actually illegal bc they're not over 18 so steam is right.
>>
>>2633294
You must be blind if you missed the disclaimer.
>>
>>2633295
>>2633295
they're in year 1, that means they're 14 or 15 years old
in japan these things are allowed, but in the west it's something new
>>
>>2633333
What is NOT new in the west is the "all characters are 18+" disclaimer, even if it is bullshit. We've been over this already.
>>
>>2633077
It's really not a good look for Valve when they think this super vanilla lesbian romance game is more morally reprehensible than games about shooting kids or killing all black people.
>>
>>2633294
not in America it isn't
>>
>>2633110
I only see games get put back up if there's a huge backlash and it usually happens very quickly because damage control.

Just finished the first game. This is exactly the type of pure unadulterated yuri goodness I've been looking for.

MangaGamer knows what's important.
>>
>>2634410
Probably because they lost money on them
>>
>>2633607
Now this I have to see.
>>
>>2634418
It's not their fault, its Steam and their retarded policies

Should i make a new thread?

I have absolutely no fucking idea what this is and maybe it's not even sonohana related but fuckit
