Of the limited Yuri in the mech genre, Simoun is the best. I love how Aeru is a stereotypical mech anime prot (just a girl), an axe crazy pilot who loves killing people and sexual harassing cute girls

> Show is a love letter to the Super Robot genre, with hundreds of references from old-school shows
> Amazing old-school super robot OP song
> Full of sexy gratuitous fanservice
> The multinational team are basically designed to fill a fetish catalog
> Surprised by the amount of genuine character development even for the minor characters
> Team America, who are lesbians, has an episode dedicated to their relationship

I'm still surprised on how much I enjoyed Godannar.

>>
>>2748343
Don't get too excited about the lesbians, they're minor characters. They get focus in just one episode in season two, the rest of the time they only show up a few times in bit roles.
To enjoy Godannar you need to like unnecessarily tight and revealing pilot suits, boobs that bounce excessively, giant robots punching monsters in the face and be able to at least put up with heterosexual romance drama and bickering.

Shounen is not a genre, although I think that Mecha is better classified than magical girls, although Symphogear, Nonoha and Vividred work better in that sense.

Iczer One is an old-school classic that everyone here should be familiar with.
Diebuster is pretty yuri on a subtext level. Gunbuster not so much sadly, but you're really supposed to watch that first.
If you like Kannazuki, KyoSora is probably worth your time. It's a lot worse overall, but it does get you your Chikane/Himeko fix.
Soukou no Strain had a Kuroko-esque comic relief lesbian, if you're into that.
Dangaizer 3 definitely had yuri, but it was sort of discontinued without a conclusion, so it's hard to recommend.
Bakuretsu Tenshi/Burst Angel is definitely /m/ and /u/ though it takes a while to get going. Don't worry about the guy who seems to be a goofy harem lead early on, he goes away later.
Langrange is about a romantic-ish friendship between three girls.
There is of course Regalia, which is more recent than all of these. Mecha and yuri for sure, but generally regarded as poor quality.

Then you have shows like Symphogear, Nanoha, Vividred, Strike Witches, Mai Otome, Cutie Honey, Pandora, etc, you're probably familiar with at least some of these. There's always debate on whether they count as mecha or not, since they're not about giant robots, but they're often counted on the broader definition that mecha is short for "mechanical", due to having things like powered armor, cyborgs and androids. Same thing regarding shows that are more general sci-fi or spaceship focused, such as Mouretsu Pirates or Kiddy Grade. All of these have worthy yuri content.
>>
>>2748706
Stuff like Nanoha and Cutie Honey are definitely /m/, but it's not mecha.

it is true, the Anime feels that it could do more, I feel that a prologue could help the Anime improve, it seems a prequel novel leaves in the BD, but it will never be scanned and much less translated.
>praise the staff for doing one of the last examples of good 2D mecha animation

amen

>>2748835
There is something strange about the qualification of that, it seems more personal taste of the people, but if there are a handful of idiots who do not accept that Evangelion is Mecha, just because according to them "is an Anime superior to Mecha" and I do not exaggerate.

>>2748706
sora kakeru shoujo could count, has robots and colonies that fight, the relationship between two of the MC works a little, but there is not much attention from the fans, there is even a confession and everything.

>>2749036
Technically Regalia counts as one.
>>
>>2749044

>>2748706
>Diebuster is pretty yuri on a subtext level

>>
>>2749079
>What's that about evangelion not being mecha?

According to them, it is not an Anime Mecha, because the Evas are not robots, according to them, they even refused to accept the official classification. The annoying thing is that they considered that Evangelion was superior to the Mecha genre in itself.

I'll just give the full context since so people won't dive into an entire show for one scene at the end.
The short girl with big tits, Tamaki, is one of the main characters alongside her team. She's pretty boy-crazy but can't get a boyfriend because she somehow scares off every guy she talks to. There's this secondary character named Patrick who has a crush on her, but doesn't have the guts to confess. Eventually he dies in combat. One of his squadmates tells Tamaki how Patrick felt, and she's really sad that she never noticed him when there was still time.
In the movie, Tamaki and her team walk into a room to meet some new pilot they'll be working with. Everyone gets freaked out because the pilot looks just like the deceased Patrick. Tamaki runs in to hug him but gets a facefull of boobs because it's actually Patrick's twin sister Patricia that they didn't know about. Tamaki and Patricia comically grope each other for a bit, later on they have a more serious conversation where they bond a little. Patricia then leaves, telling Tamaki she's looking forward to their next "chat" as she makes a groping gesture with her hands.

So it's really not a big deal at all, it's just a cute scene that gave a nice follow up to a sad event. It's nice to imagine what could happen with them later, but the series is probably done for good.
>>
>>2750914
Thanks for the context
Outside of /u/, is the series any good?
>>
>>2751061
As a fan of /m/ I would definitely consider a great series. Its not particular complex, but it helps that the show is lighthearted in tone with lots of comedy. It has a cast of likable characters all with their own unique quirks that make them recognizable. The biggest draw however are the mecha fights, its one of the few shows that knows how to make 3D animation look good and the actions takes full advantage of the dynamic camera that it provides.

Overall, watch if you want a a lighthearted show with really great action scenes. I'd recommend it, just not for th /u/.

I want to elaborate on the picture you posted since you didn't mention what it's from.
Anaheim Girl's Love Story is an unofficial visual novel based on Gundam. It's about the engineers who built the Gundams that appear in the Stardust Memory OVA. Whoever wrote it really knows their Gundam and did a good job of writing their story into the gaps of the existing lore. It's a really well done combination of mecha and yuri as both elements are in focus and neither feels tacked on. There isn't a lot of mecha piloting in it as it's about the building process, but there is a little at the end. I guess it's short for a VN and has only three endings. The story gets super dramatic at some points.
There is a full translation available but it's in external text files only, so you need to have it open on the side to read along. It's a bit cumbersome but doable.

I made a little compilation of scenes from Gaiking LODM in which the villain, Proist, makes advances towards her female general, Vestaanu. They're all from different episodes.

Nothing comes of this by the way, as Vestaanu doesn't really respond to anything and later gets with a guy.

It's good gay fun, but it drags mid-way through the second season due where it focuses on the actual mech plot.
>>
>>2754947
First season is pretty good. Second one is a disaster and most of the context is lost if you didn't read a stupid spin-off manga. The worst part is that even if you did read the damn manga, the story is still shit in its later half.
>>

You won't get "lost" but Yurikano's motivation and character is confined there. You get bits and pieces in the series but nothing more. I understand relegating fluff to spin-offs but not integral stuff. Yurikano's back story was integral to plot's later stages.

More seriously, though, in anime your best bet is hopping for a yuri end (subtext or text) for Seri (Fafner Beyond). Mecha anime are, most of the time, made to sell toys and we can't have kids seeing lesbians. Perhaps there is more hope in a manga.

To be fair, we are talking about two story elements (giant robots and lesbians) that are niche. So we are hopping for a niche within a niche. It seems someone would have to take it to themselves and write the thing.

To answer the question about Diebuster the anon asked when they fucked up the spoiler text. This is pretty much how the series ends so if the first answer is good enough, go with it and don't read the explanation afterward.

No. Larc doesnt get with anyone else. The last scene is her waiting for the girl from Gunbuster to arrive back on Earth, so she can tell her all about Nono, who wanted to basically BE Noriko, one of the pilots of Gunbuster. If you wanted to draw a possible epilogue, Larc could find in Noriko what she lost in Nono. I don't remember how het Gunbuster was but it was goggle-able at least, though both female leads had male love interests that didn't pan out.

I think you failed to understand a very important aspect of Simoun: its sociological realism. The way this anime pictures the culture of a small group, its place in society, etc. is very clever and subtle. Aeru is an outsider relatively to the group of priestesses, and she completely lacks the implicit knowledge of its culture because she didn't went through the normal process of socialization. On the other hand, her behavior is perfectly sensible if you consider she was forcibly put in that group because of the war and because the group's culture was an obstacle to using the Simoun's fully as weapons. She completely understand that and acts accordingly.

I can't express just how much I hate frame arms girls. I mean sure, I enjoy a busou shinki successor as much as the next person, but frame arms had such brilliant mecha design in the first place thats now been almost completely lost since their design elements have been warped to fit these stale waif-like bodies instead.

Except for Hres, she's somehow thiccer than the original and the only hope of this series.

>>
I just want a hotblooded mecha series that has as much gay sexual tension between its female main characters as your average fujobait gundam and doesn't end tragically, jesus christ it just keeps happening.
>>
>nothing SSSS related
IT'S A MIRACLE
>>
Allow me to interrupt you all for a moment. And I'm sorry if I seem a moron. I can't help it.
This thread seems like the right place for my question and I don't think making another thread should be necessary, so I'm just going to come out and ask for your help.
I'm watching the original Bubblegum Crisis OVAs (the 1987 ones). Fantastic series so far, but I wonder: are there any /u/ elements in there?
I'm enjoying myself so far, but I wouldn't want to watch a show for the wrong reasons. It'd be a waste of time and also disrespectful towards the OVAs themselves
>>
>>2789861
Not really, no. If you have goggles (I don't, so I say this), you can get a bit, but basically no.
>>
>>2785087
that's sad, at least I hope I had a good life, it's even sadder when these people die in oblivion.

>>2785116

the Mecha aspect of KnM is quite undervalued, it is a standard Mecha at the end and it works that way, Kyoshiro more or less worked (except the main romance) but the fake trailer really put up a good series, Ku x Setsuna was a genuinely good couple.

>>2785092
Wait, I'm confused.

>>2785082
> mecha isn't for war

That seems difficult, you have to take into account that Mecha itself is a gender oriented action, although it would not be a bad concept, the fans mecha complain even if it has a good performance.

My-HiME made it into SRW X-O. They only included Mai, Mikoto and Natsuki, though.

Exactly how gay is the my/mai series?
>>
>SRWT introduces the male/female MC
>only introduce a female love interest
Are they going to do it like older games and make the female MC a lesbian? It appears they ran out of money/resources again and can only have one VA for the love interest.
>>
>>2796020
C'mon. As much as I'd like a lesbian OG MC, they could have the romance being beetween both playable characters (like Amari/Iori from X)
>>
>>2796025
They kinda stopped doing that so they can save money on the voice acting. But maybe, still they were introduced as the same character so...
>>
>>2796027
X is the most recent game until T comes out. What are you talking about with them stopping doing that?
And no, male and female MCs for T are different characters
Also, if you pick the girl, the male will stil be there piloting the genspenst (He'll just get it later if you don't get the preorder bonus that allows you early access to the Genspenst)
>>
>>2796032
Ahh okay I mean like in older games.
>>
>>2796020
50/50 chance of making her a lesbian, V had Chitose and Nine, X got the MCs hooking up because you can't fuck a bird, so it's either the kouhai, or the female mechanic
>>
>>2795333

Any "fan" you ask, will always ignore all the ridiculously prominent and badly written het and instead just mention the ridiculously unimportant and better written Yuri. These people could never handle the franchise well and it shows.
>>
>>2796020
>>2796025
A couple of years ago I played Alpha 1 and used a cheating program to force a female MC and a female love interest at the same time, to see what would happen. It actually worked just fine, I finished the game without anything breaking. Even all the dialogue between the two characters still made sense, because the story and scenes are always the same anyway regardless of your character choice, the only thing that really changes is the tone/way the characters speak (and yeah I got them both talking like girls). Only odd thing was that they both kept using the -kun honorific towards each other, because their dialogue is written to interact with a male character.

I doubt we'll ever see legit yuri OGs, though.
>>
>>2796620
So I should just keep ignoring it then? Gotcha.
>>
>>2798430
Alpha 1 was never translated right? I've played a bit of Alpha Gaiden on the PS1 but I didn't like it much.
>I doubt we'll ever see legit yuri OGs, though.
Probably not, they could if they really wanted to, but they just don't
>>
>>2798624
you can see it at your own risk, just do not expect it to be the perfect Yurifest and/or Anime that the fans desperately try to sell, it's not bad, but inferior in comparison to what the post-madoka era has brought.

Mazinger Angels Z.

>tfw "he" is really a girl
>>
>>2800741
I so badly want someone like this in an SRW game. Closest we've got seems to be Ange, and that's a lot of bullshit to put up with to get lesbian harem overtones.
>>
>>2800743
it seems that the only way to have something Yuri in SRW is for Sunrise to do it (Ange could be one, but Fukuda ruined everything) it seems that if another animation studio does, the possibilities are really minimal.
>>
>>2796620
This. Can't believe /u/ tricked me into watching Mai-Hime because that was the only yuri that time only to slog through 26 eps of borefest for Shizuru to go off the rails crazy and rape Natsuki. I honestly found the yuri bad writing.
>>
>>2804145
Well, this is how the "classic anime" works, never believe anything that says "before everything was better" is bull crap, a person who has really seen how things were before, will tell you that it is basically the same shit.

>Shizuru to go off the rails crazy and rape Natsuki. I honestly found the yuri bad writing.

apparently this was a secondary element that got out of control, I think it says a lot when it's the part that gets the most relevance with the fans.
>>
>>2804145
the funny thing is that if you judge this.
>>2804286
there is no repentance and on the contrary, they are proud of that way of thinking.

Looking at the images of the New SRW, I'm still disappointed.

it's called fanservice, it's used very often in Eroges, Ecchi and harem, as a way to promote your characters, you'll always see them as very intimate and the anime directly does not have any of that, you can see official images of Strike the blood to understand my point.

What really matters is the content of the Anime and that the official images will be a real complement and not an excuse to cover incoherent writing, like AkoShizu.

Sexualized design, but I really am not special and are dependent on clothes to highlight designated values.

I can understand Hestia, Sento Isuzu and even Bowsette, but what is the excuse here? Even the official book fanervice was pretty mediocre.

It's really impressive how popular these two got considering mecha hasn't really been a top selling genre in a while.
>>
>>2805831
It's not Mecha, your idiot.

There are two factors to that, one was the fact that it is a sequel to the original Gridman (that's more important than people think) and that they are the waifus of last season, many people urged by publicity would obviously use them. They also had Trigger as an additional bonus, the characterization was never an important factor.

>>
Gridman isn't mecha, it's tokusatsu, however both of these genres are talked about in /m/ so whatever I guess
But you might as well keep the Gridman posting to a minimum, there's already a Gridman thread up, plus a few images posted have men in it, and if I'm not mistaken, that's against the board's rules.
