most are from the later volumes right? Shame since I think the anime won't get past vol3, vol 4 if they cut a bunch of stuff

also you forgot this page
>>
Help me out here /u/
Watched first episode and there were multiple time jumps and an exposition dump in the first five minutes. Also couldn't tell what was a flashback, like was Asuka's parents being taken and delivered to her in small boxes something that happened in the past, because if it was something that happened in the present I imagine she'd be making a bigger deal about it. And my guess is special forces dude is her guardian because her parents are dead.

I'm sure I could find the answers on a wiki somewhere but then probably more would be spoiled. I have to ask if this is an anime pacing issue and if the manga does it better.
>>
yeah, the pacing is a lot better in the manga than the anime, you can't tell in the anime if something is a flashback or not
>>
>>2795515
>was Asuka's parents being taken and delivered to her in small boxes something that happened in the past
Yes, it happened in the middle of the war. Those plushie Dis don't exist anymore.
>>
Without spoiling too much, how grim does this get? Is it the sort of show that kills off girls you've become attached to right left and centre without ceremony?
I find stuff like that psychologically unsettling and so usually avoid it.
Also, how is the yuri? Are the OL and the loli slave the bad guys?

Female fanbase is already in love with the series. Were heading to Valkyrie Drive levels.
>>
>>2798385
Most of the cast are lesbians so the blowback from Otaku's is expected. Glad that it's pissing off the trash.
>>
>>2798407
I'm not surprised at all because more females are loving Asuka because she's a good romancer too.

It won't happen unless a dedicated fan latches on it like it happened with Magical Girl Site. Yen Press already released vol 4 and, with that, it overtook scanlators.

As for whether is good, that's hard to say. I like it a lot, but it has some very edgy elements that would turn most people off. The first couple of chapters in particular are an absurd edgefest. It gets better after that and turns into more of a dark comedy.

I don't think so. His exposition about Ruselka seemed to imply that it was just a myth before first contact, but afterwards they were able to turn it in to a real power. And the mascot later implied that they actually drowned a girl to make the water spirit.

So I'm guessing since the anime is 12 episodes, they likely end up with anime original(which I hope not). Though it might end up the same way as how Kakegurui with them having an anime original ending in season one only to end up getting a second season either a year or 2 later(which doubtful).

Lastly, I'm guessing the Queen's identity is probably a giveaway since they literally have her say "That's my Asuka".

When I discovered this manga and an other one by the same writer, I was very excited. I immediately loved both. Then the translations stopped around chapter 5 for the other one and chapter 10 for this one. I was so sad. My two possibly favorite manga ended prematurely. So I was in for a big surprise when I heard some months ago this one is getting an anime. But I was sad too. It's so rare that a manga adaptation is as good or better than the source material. Keijo, Rideback, very very few. Most are the opposite, manage to be even worse. And especially because this manga is so good I was worried no way it will come close.

And indeed the anime is very lackluster. I expected at least the art to be good because the same studio did Hanebado!. That one really gave me hope. Hanebado! would likely be AOTY if it weren't for Toji no Miko. But no, the art is very boring and lackluster. It's like they had no budget at all. Even worse, the first minutes of every episode is a recap. Bad animation too. Also, they set it up in a completely wrong way. You can't do it like this for an anime.

If it would get Madoka treatment, meaning great art and decent writing specifically some rewriting to make it fit the anime medium, I think this could have been one of the best anime of all time. But instead it's mediocre, piss in a sea of seasonal shit.

What a shame. It also makes me question my memory of the manga. I had a good feeling it would be my number 1 manga. I will reread it to check what's going on, whether I was just in a fever frenzy and the manga isn't that good after all or the anime just doesn't capture the essence.

>>
>AOTY
Who gives a flying fuck about that ?
It's a well-documented fact that most people have shit taste and as such an anime getting a lot of recognition isn't actually a gage of quality in itself. Of course there are exceptions but in the specific case of yuri the good material is almost always unexpected and certainly not the kind of bait big studios like to throw at us.

>>2820316
>Im more shocked at Hanebado "being good"
I forgot to address that part because I didn't see it as it was in reply to someone else. Hanebado has a really strong beginning and covers some great themes. I love how it deals with competition, talent and hard work. In that regard I think it's better than Ping Pong. Sadly it has something else in common with Ping Pong, it too has a bad ending. Forced fake happy end. MC shouldn't have forgiven her mother and she should have won again with her superior talent. It also has some subtext which is nice.

I guess it could be a statement about how we differ as people. I am very competitive and ambitious myself. You might be someone who can relate to the insecurities dealt with in Sora Yori and you might prefer something more normal, SoL kind of stuff but maybe you're also into travelling. Of course I don't know you and am just guessing.

Alright watched episode 5. Was already a little better so I hope it keeps improving. Now onto the manga. And I can immediately tell how it is superior.

It is surprisingly hard to say what exactly the anime does so wrong. It is very similar to the manga but every deviation and addition is very bad. Example manga beginning there is a narration, in the anime Asuka says some cringy stuff in an unpleasant voice with shit music playing. Then before the final battle they talk way too long. When reading the manga it felt more like quick chatter, not lengthy sequential talk. In the manga it felt fluid, in the anime there are literal pauses where the monster isn't even moving. Althought what they say is almost the same, it loses all its fluidity.

Hmm yeah I think the anime is just way too unrefined. In the manga it works because you read at a fast pace and there are many panels showing different stuff and also things in the background instead of these endless stills. The anime just ends up being awkward while the manga feels much more natural and alive. It also has better translations.

Kinda amazing how seemingly small differences can have such a huge impact. But also shows how important little things are like how dialogue is narrated. Anime has more potential than manga as a medium but is also more demanding so when there is less effort in an anime than a manga the difference in quality is huge.

So I caught up with the anime. Yet an other change that is bad. In the anime the cube just disappears, in the manga Asuka has to destroy it or they would have died. These changes are everywhere, little changes that just make the anime always worse and never better, hundreds of them.

Next page. In the anime the dialogue is changed in the way that it focuses on how much of a victory it was while in the manga this is only glanced over on the side which seems much more serious and professional than "this was a big success, well maybe not big but ...". I really hope it's just awful translation of the anime and not really retardation of the dialogue.
>>
>>2820540
In that you can also see how the anime is awful visually. In the manga every panel is dynamic, shows movement and new perspective. In the anime everyone is just standing in place and a very long shot of his face instead of everyone getting together. Also, Venus does not hug Asuka, they were too lazy to animate Venus moving at all.

In the manga it immediately goes to lesbian sex and advancing the plot on a major scale by introducing future villains. Instead of leaving all that good stuff out they should instead not add stupid shit and drag out scenes to the degree of them becoming extremely awkward.

Still, the manga is more dynamic. Anime once again just endless stills with little action on the side that makes all the difference. Anime: guy draws his gun fully and even after recognizing them still keeps his gun up. Not even trigger discipline. What the fuck? He is supposed to be trained, not some amateur idiot who never handled a gun.

A tiny bit of dialogue they could have covered in 5 seconds but that is oh so important they left out but instead draw out the part about making her join. They also leave out the key explanation why it's girls who become magical. The dialogue in the manga is not any longer but it contains so much more information. But they had to cut out some key parts and draw out the boring one.
>>
>>2820573
They also rewrote the dialogue afterwards about keeping the victim girl in the same school. The explanation in the manga is much better and doesn't make the military people look like heartless psychopaths.

Also the reintroduction of the victim is much more natural in the manga. It is basically in the background and not centered around Asuka like in the anime.

Have to say, the scene where they make a drama about War Nurse erasing the girl's memory was stupid.
She lost one week of her life, that's literally nothing against being damaged forever. Why even pretend it was a dramatic moment after it happens? They should at least make her forget since the moment she met Asuka. That would be dramatic.

The only good one of that season is Toji no Miko. I know that /u/ for some reason really loves Franxx but that anime is shit. What else was there in that season? Slow Start and Yuru Camp are both SoL comedy, a genre combination that doesn't work for me at all. There was a new Cardcaptor I didn't even bother with because it's het. Seasonal Precure shit. Märchen Mädchen went up in flames.

Yeah it is definitely a very strong season in terms of average quality but I am only interested in anime that stand out, that are particularly good.

Perhaps, due to the fact that I didn't read the manga, I'm just enjoying the anime on it's own in general. It's probably easy for me, as I really love animu (with Yuri my favorite). My only complain, is the pacing is a bit slow, considering the introduction of the characters. Halfway through the show, and the remaining two still aren't featured normally yet.

Of course, this is from the view-point of one who hasn't read the manga.
>>
>>2822217
Besides, Kurumi's mammaries probably have some healing properties canon-wise.
>>
>>2822217

>>
>>2822233

>>
>>2822120
The Mia segments were more than fine. The new battle scene is better, there's more dialogue, and there is nothing missing that can't be featured in another episode.
But almost every segment Asuka appeared in was a god damn chore to watch. They went their way to make Sayako and Kurumi, respectively, the most boring and annoying characters possible in this episode. Asuka wasn't much better either, but her second scene with Sandino was decent enough. I'm not sure if the audience needed to be reminded that Asuka's goal is to protect people for the second episode in a row, and if separating that into 3 different segments (two of them original, one from volume 6) was a good idea.
And i'm still mad that episode 5 butchered the manga a little bit.

>>

I personally consider Edgefest, something like Goblin Slayer or SnK, where blood and death are seen, only by shock value and nothing else.

here it feels more like something that can happen and can not be avoided, that kind of horrible people, it really exists.
>>
Just finished watching all the 6 episodes currently subbed.
I'll admit I found it a bit mediocre. I think it tries too much to take itself seriously with little success. I guess the manga is better in that regard.
Anyway, I'd give it a 6.5/10. 7/10 for the various badass hot women
And speaking of girls/women, they should really stop making the enemy characters smoking hot. I hate seeing a beautiful woman die, even if she's a psychotic terrorist

Not that anon but it's kinda true the moment the term cour existed, anime pretty much goes heavy into the advertising part instead.

15-17 is a rip from the official eng translation,
the rest (other link) it's fan translation from vol 6 onward. Either way, I'm not the one translating or the one who scanned so go to /a/ to complain if it bothers you to read manga when it's not on MD or dynasty.

Except not really? we still get a lot of passionate adaptations within the medium.

Getter Robo fans would be happy to tell you that you are wrong, if we talk about adaptations, things were pretty bad before, faithful adaptations are something relatively new.

> Like sailor moon, saint seiya, dragon ball and cardcaptor sakura
those are bad examples, but the real fans have complaints for those adaptations, even the DB fans never took it as a basis for any debate, only the manga.

things were not better before, you can see the conflict that Tomino had with Sunrise when Gundam left, they were more focused on selling toys, the Mecha of the time were basically commercial toys of 24 minutes.

There needs more of these sort of Yuri combos! If this is shown in the anime, it would up it's gayness even more.
