Cause Usagi is best girl.
I can't do this alone, OP.
>>2830899Who's that meant to be? Her eyes are too blue to be Rei.

I'm more or less working on a Sailor Moon story that has the Senshi in the world of Avatar (Airbender, not James Cameron). It's not a crossover, though: it's just the Senshi portrayed as benders. I have lots of plans, but I'm only eight chapters in.
Does anyone else feel old when looking at Sailor Moon related material? It's just that I keep thinking that a significant portion of /u/, and anime fans in general, weren't even alive when SM was popular.
>>2831109But Rei is for eternally suffering from her (likely mutual) feelings for Usagi that can never be acted on or even mentioned, lest they cause time paradoxes and bring down a kingdom.
>>2830899Is that Wonder Woman?
>>2831097According to the /d/ booru, it's Wonder Woman. The style's pretty clearly mimicking the old DC animated series, so I think that's probably right.I don't even know what the hell it's doing on the /d/ booru, but that's reverse image search for you.
>>2831383Minako is a discount Usagi.
>>2831383There's absolutely nothing that says they can't be friends with benefits.
Or, you know, the future is not written, no fate but what we make, etc etc.
Or, heck, just a one-night stand to get it over and done with.
But let's face it, we all know who Usagi really wants.
We suuuuuuuuure do.
Well, never mind, then.
I've always thought the idea of a Sailor Moon story where instead of leading the Inner Senshi - Usagi had to lead the Outer Senshi instead might be interesting.Keep Haruka and Michuru together obviously but pair Usagi up with Setsuna. This is used to later explain Chibiusa's time travel abilities and eye color and have her pair up with Tomoe of course. This also has the benefit of forcing Setsuna to take part in the daily antics of the other senshi rather than moping all the time. Inner Senshi show up later maybe but with Minako leading since she was supposed to be the leader anyway. Pairings for them would be MinakoRei and MakotoAmi of course.
I've always headcanoned Rei/Usagi, Minako/Setsuna, Ami/Makoto, Haruka/Michiru and Chibiusa(because of disguise pen fun between Usagi/Rei)/Hotaru..

>>2832104I like to think that Crystal Tokyo will have a queen, a prince consort and a princess consort. Season two implies that Chibi-Usa is much closer to future Rei than any of the others, which would be handily explained if they form a kind of family. As for why no one in the future mentions it, nothing else about that season makes sense either. Besides, Mamoru's a pretty chill guy.I also like to imagine an AU where Jadeite gets a lucky shot in that kills Mamoru before they have access to resurrection magic, the thread of prophecy is severed, Luna starts hitting the catnip and Usagi can do what she wants.>>2832376I'm pretty sure that putting Usagi in the same team as Haruka and Michiru would end with all of them in the same bed. I don't see Usagi and Setsuna as compatible at all.
>>2833061The problem is finding someone who is compatible with Setsuna. Her ovaries are literally 2000 years old. We need to get her pregnant with yuri science babies.
>>2833092I like the super potential of UsagixSetsuna but that is so buried it might as well stand guard with Setsuna
>>2833096She did say she thought Setsuna was super lonely and sad looking.I think if you moved Usagi to the Outer Senshi the major issue would be that the Outer Senshi don't have the team dynamic the inner senshi has at all. Tomoe has her health problems and being possessed by Mistress 9 problems as well as being a literal Super Sayian in terms of power level. You need Chibiusa to come back prior to Tomoe even entering the plot just cause they were the original MadoHomu. Haruka and Michuru live in their own world most of the time and whilst they might be friends with Usagi I do think Usagi would recognize she is hurting Michuru by getting close to Haruka and tell Haruka to not flirt with her after a bit of drama. It basically leaves Setsuna to make sure Usagi doesn't die and fight alone for a solid length of time. That could work just from the fact that she could train Usagi and work with her from the start - like when she used that scream attack in the first chapter/episode she might have gotten Setsuna's attention cause I think she did something similar to what Chibiusa did.In a way moving Usagi to the Outer Senshi is the equivalent to locking her in a log cabin with Setsuna and a bunch of other paired up dykes + her lesbian daughter from the future.
>>2831383Fuck that shit and let it burn.Mamoru dies. Usagi gets Rei and shares Haruka. Senshi go full “pierce the Heavens” powerlevel-wise to save the universe. Yuritopia forever.
>>2831511Fanfics like "I can be your Usagi if you want" are basically writing themselves.
>>2833529>>2833530>>2833531>>2833532>>2830899The artist sure loves Usagi so damn much.
>>2833106>she could train Usagi and work with her from the startThat could work. After a rough start, Usagi realizes she needs to shape up so she doesn't let down Setsuna-san, the cool and mysterious older woman who's in her life now (cue bitter complaints about also being a cool and mysterious older woman from Luna). When she learns how harsh and lonely Setsuna's life is, Usagi decides to bring as much joy to her as she can. Setsuna is a little mystified why this bubbly teenager keeps asking her to go to the movies and cute cafes with her, but she goes anyway and secretly likes it.Though the scenario I really want to see is Haruka, Michiru and Usagi becoming a team at the start of their magical girl careers. They're all still middle schoolers figuring out the ropes so Haruka and Michiru aren't quite as unapproachable and perfect in Usagi's eyes. Usagi's still a bit of a fuck-up but H&M adore her anyway, especially if they've had to kill a few possessed civilians before finding her and gaining access to her purification powers. The head pats for good grades would still probably motivate Usagi to study a bit harder, that and the desire to not feel like a complete tool next to her new friends. Most importantly, H&M aren't dating yet because muh duty and haven't even known each other for that long, so no one's taken. Usagi's presence will weaken their "hard women making hard decisions" ethos but also complicates the romantic situation. Even if Usagi encourages them to start dating, which I like to think she would once she gets over the initial gay panic, the mutual attraction between Usagi and Haruka is still a part of their team dynamic. Usagi and Michiru have a pretty interesting relationship too, so there's no reason they couldn't try more creative solutions. It'd make the eventual meeting with the Inner Senshi fun.
>>2834384These were my thoughts too.
Honestly, Minako's probably the one most likely to actually be bisexual.
Yeah, Makoto stared down at Ami's rear a little too long, and had that short crush on Haruka, but at the end of the day, she's a boy-chaser.
Ami strikes me as highly likely to be bi, or even flat-out gay. She seems like a fairly closeted person who doesn't readily reveal things about herself, whether it be her parents, her swimming, her "type"...
Rei is...difficult to discern. She seems simultaneously cautious about boys, yet open to them as well (she did go after Mamoru first). Yeah, there's her close relationship to Usagi, and that magazine...but Rei seems more grey.
For all we know, Setsuna may very well be asexual. But hey, here's a few with her n' Bun-head.
Silver Serenity ships them very hardcore.
Although some people ship Setsuna with Queen Serenity rather than her daughter.
I've seen stranger ships.
I kid. But seriously...
And this classic gem for old time's sake.
>>2836478>>2836480>>2836481>>2836477>>2836484>>2836476>>2836474Well Usagi is Bi
>>2833530>>2833531Looks like the artist forgot to finish this ship's WIP
>>2836467Ami absolutely is, she goes red whenever the others mention something gay
>>2843797goddamn she could break rocks with that jaw
>>2836472A lot of the reason for this discrepancy is that the person in charge of the anime shipped Usagi and Rei hard and the manga did not. This put them into the awkward position of having a fair amount of shiptease, then the original story line would assert itself and the two would utterly forget any romantic tension ever existed for important plot details.
>>2848232I don't think Ikuhara ever intended the mutual attraction between Rei and Usagi to be an entirely consistent, stable part of the story. A miracle romance between a prince and princess doesn't have room for the princess's love for another princess, as you suggest. I think that's exactly why Ikuhara wanted to put it there, besides liking cartoon lesbians. The whole "heterosexual family as adulthood and destiny" narrative isn't very convincing when you're rooting for Usagi to get together with Rei, who is clearly superior to Mamoru. That said, I like how little you have to squint to make Rei/Usagi work, despite all that. Many of their big moments are tied to major plot points, which makes it seem like something the staff took seriously. Pic related is obvious, but I also like Rei's death scene in the last season, after Ikuhara had already left the show. Actually, it's all her friends' death scene, but Usagi's too busy begging Rei to stay with her forever like she promised to notice.
>>2848381I wasn't intending to accuse him of attempted plot derailment.
>>2848884I think he'd have loved to derail the plot, but there's only so much of that you can do when you're working for Toei's flagship magical girl show.
>>2848381That final scene with her and Rei right before Rei died in season 1 was so gay. They even went out of their way to make Rei as pretty as possible there.
>>2848934And after that, she sacrifices herself to kill the two enemies targeting Usagi in a scene that's more Icelandic saga than magical girl anime. It overshadows the following episode's scene with Mamoru so hard I'm surprised that generation of Japanese women didn't all grow up wanting a long-haired tsundere girlfriend.
>>2849058I know right? That's one reason despite the issues with the first season of Sailor Moon - I still think it's worth a watch since some scenes in it are extremely gay.
>>2848934Usagi loses it every time she loses Rei.It's really cute.
>>2848232The manga does ship these two in pic related extremely hard.
>>2849061The first season is my favorite after the third one. The girls are less gay (and were probably meant to have serious love interests going forward), but there's still the two animator girls who are clearly a couple, the beginning of Rei and Usagi's thing and some MakoAmi stuff. On the m/m front, I really like Kunzite and Zoisite. Aside from shipping, I just like the season's relatively grounded approach. The power levels are fairly low, the cast is small and Tokyo feels more like a real city with a dark side than ever again.>>2849453Heartbreakingly cute.
>>2849453Too bad Usagi's too dumb to reflect on why she feels that way about Rei and not the others. In my more optimistic moments I like to think that maybe three times (end of S1, beginning of S3, end of S5) would be enough even for her and they'll have a talk after the dust settles from beating Galaxia.
Why do older girls like her so much?
>>2848381I think he did what little he could with the lack of freedom he had. He also openly disliked Mamoru. If he had his way, Usagi and Rei would have run off into the sunset together.
>>2855420It would be nice to be the cause of such a cute girl's sexual awakening.
>>2855484Given Utena, I’m pretty sure that’s how he wants every anime to end.
>>2855495Cue some butthurt anon coming in here and bitching about how he hates lesbians because of one character in Penguindrum.
Usagi's got some catch up to do!
I was thinking it could be fun to do a post Madoka/KnM/Utena/HiME/etc - Sailor Moon story. Where in all the girls are trying to look for the dark side of being a Sailor Senshi and take this shit way too seriously since they have seen some modern darker takes on the genre. Complete with modern anime jokes.Everyone thinks Luna and Artemis is trying to steal their souls initially. When it comes out Setsuna is vastly older than she looks and has time powers Usagi is worried Setsuna is some sort of time traveler and the reason she is so distant is because she has been trying and failing to save them for several thousand years and is also potentially gay enough to become the Devil. Minako tries to use her chain powers to swing around the city ala Mami. Rei is afraid she is about to go out and rape Minako Chikane style. They are all suspicious of getting in Haruka's car and think the government is out to get them. Eventually one day Setsuna watches Madoka and by the end of it becomes a gun collector/bomb maker and is trying to get Usagi to change how her time stop powers work. Etc.
>>2856111I mean, Sailor Moon is already saying that all of human history is basically a mistake and we should have been ruled by a goddess-empress. It says that even a sweet girl like Usagi can grow up to be a tyrant who conquers the world, "purifies" her subjects and banishes those who refuse. Worst of all, it says that if it's your destiny to marry an OK guy and give birth to Satan, that's what you're going to do, even when fine women like Rei, Haruka and Seiya are right there. That's much darker than anything in Madoka.
>>2856232>>2856111It also says the Sailor Senshi are immortal and exist to fight, for all eternity. That's kind of a downer.Really, Sailor Moon already suggests that being a magical girl might actually kind of suck; newer stuff just turns it up to 11.
>>2856232>>2856236It kinda is but I meant using this stuff more for comedy purposes.
>>2856236You could argue that every major element in Madoka except Kyubei (which is anticipated in Princess Tutu) exists in Sailor Moon in at least embryonic form. The magical girl as a goddess in Usagi, magical girls as hard girls making hard decisions in Haruka and Michiru, failed magical girls becoming corrupted in season five villains, harrowing death scenes undone by a kind of reincarnation, etc.
>>2856278Thank you!People always act like I'm crazy when I assert that Madoka "borrowed" most of its ideas from Sailor Moon; It's nice to see someone else say the same thing.
>>2856278>>2856810Wasn't that likely the whole point of the show? For just being "muh darker" isn't very revolutionary, all things considered.
>>2856810Most people only watched a couple of episodes of the edited Sailor Moon on TV as kids and and that's it. Some of the newest generation have never watched or read it at all. Most folks don't know the story details particularly well.>>2856845Madoka had the right mix of staff and came at the right time. That's really all it takes for shows to gain a huge following in the West now. It didn't do anything that hasn't been done before. It just made the dark elements more obvious and spelled them out for you. Really, the new generation mostly don't watch any magical girl shows besides Madoka. If they've seen anything else, it is probably some random edited episodes of CCS and SM that they vaguely remember from when they were young. With how little most English speakers watch or even know about magical girls, it's no surprise that they think Madoka is some completely original thing that hadn't been done before.
>>2856845I think you're right, but as >>2856860 says, plenty of younger people don't really know Sailor Moon.
>>2856248When Sailor Moon Crystal was first announced, I kind of hoped for a genre-aware edgy reboot. Alas, it was not to be.

>>2856860Madoka was also much better written and more tightly focused than very nearly anything in the genre before it. Not saying that in itself is a big draw for the masses, but it helped the popularity a bit.
>>2857119It's a very different format from most magical girl shows. They tend to be year-long shows with formulaic plots aimed at children and obligated to hock toys to kids, so a high-budget 12 episode show with big name talent attached is going to appeal to more people. It'd hard to convince someone who hasn't seen the light to watch a 200-episode show from the nineties with lots of recycled animation. That said, I like Sailor Moon a lot more than Madoka. It's formulaic and there's two whole seasons I could do without, but you also come to love the characters in a deeper way when you watch them for that long, ideally over a long period of time. The large episode count also allowed Ikuhara and co. to put lots of interesting and subtle stuff in their episodes, which is more fun to think about than Madoka's more direct approach.
>>2857119Madoka also had a very obvious "hook" which caught people off-guard in episode 3, which is early on. After that episode aired, its popularity exploded. Many anime fans do not have a lot of patience, and will drop something that seems "boring" in 2-3 episodes. Even the most hardcore of SM fans will admit that around 80% of the series is filler and SOL that does nothing to progress the story. Modern anime fans typically don't have the patience for that... not when each new season has around 30 new anime which mostly end after 12-13 episodes. If good writing helped popularity at all, Princess Tutu would have also been much more popular.
The rest is het, regrettably.
In Sailor Moon, horse grooms you!

>>2858962Because you can only walk down the same road so many times before you start wondering where all the other paths lead you.
At this point, H&M seem bland to me.
There's also over-saturation to consider.
In all seriousness, it would be nice seeing an alternate reality where Usagi and Rei became canon. I still think her first crush should be Motoki, but all throughout the first season, she should have an inner conflict regarding her feelings towards another girl.
Maybe in a flashback sequence, we find out that Princess Serenity and Princess Mars were lovers (secretly or openly). Then themes of "reincarnation" and "destiny" would be thrown around a lot.
Romance, whether potential or unabashed, should be awkward for at least half a season. A "will they won't they" dilemma could gallivant along for awhile.
A scenario where they actually do get together could be compelling if written well. Their relationship would be tested in society, with their families, and with their friends. Their duties would absolutely interfere at least once. They would have moments where they're positive that it's all worth it. Sometimes they would question whether they did the right thing.
Maybe they'd just keep things secret, only to have their relationship revealed at a hilarious or inopportune moment. Or maybe Minako could just say, "That's no big deal, Ami and I have been dating for months now." And then she'd collect on a bet she made with Makoto.
That mark was there when I found this picture.
Last thought for the day: maybe their relationship becomes comfortable and conflict-free for awhile, but they're afraid of it stagnating. Then they can explore whether happiness is found in stability, unpredictability, or somewhere in between. Either way, I think I went off on an unusual tangent.
You're right. She's probably better off with Naru. I don't know what I was thinking.
>>2859092So you're into cuckqueaning?
>>2859096I wish they'd have done something like that with Sailor Moon Crystal. It's shocking how terrible Toei is at doing anything of value with the property, which must be one of their most internationally recognized brands. Rather than do a high-quality update aimed straight at the hearts of the generation that grew up watching it, they gave the world a cheap toku show and a terrible new anime that looks worse than the 1992 original. That said, it just isn't Rei/Usagi for me if it isn't ultra forbidden love because of Mamoru, Chibi-Usa and Destiny.
Does Chibiusa love her back?
anyone have a back up of a Rei/Usagi fic? or at least know this fic? It was on ao3 and multi-chapter, focused on Rei being gay for an Usagi who was blindly in love with Mamoru. Slightly action filled as it changed the timeline and made it more Rei/Usagi friendly. I specifically remember there being a club scene where Rei's dancing or singing with someone and Usagi getting frustrated. Also a Minako/Ami/Makoto love triangle. It's been a long while since I've read it and I wanted to reread but I think it's been taken down
>>2861197Naoko Takeuchi made lots of weird decisions, but including romantic undertones in a relationship between a (mentally) seven-year-old and a twelve-year-old is still quite something. But yes, because the idea of Hotaru getting Tomoyo'd while Chibi-Usa dates a horse is too depressing.
Hotaru, she's going out with Rei now.

>>2869318They were based on a straight couple who worked on the series and the episode, Hiromi Matsushita and Kazuko Tadano. The characters' are called Hiromi Matsuno and Kazuko Tadashita.
>>2849455The Manga ships Hotaru/Chibiusa way harder than just that...During Sailor Moon Stars... ChibiUsa and Hotaru can be seen walking hand in hand in a scene... Usagi sees them both walking like that and asks them both why they're hand in hand like that. Hotaru tells usagi that "It's like you and Momoru."Not only that, when Hotaru re-ages in the Manga as Sailor Saturn, she introduces herself as Chibimoon's "Partner", the only other 2 senshi who introduce eachother as Partners... are Uranus and Neptune.
>>2832109Why Usagi forgot her friend Naru and hang out with other Sailor Senshi instead after first season?
>>2876812Because if you don't have super powers, you're not good enough to hang out with a princess.
>>2876812In-universe, they drift apart because Usagi's life is now about being a superhero and she's unwilling to tell Naru about her secret identity.Out-of-universe, the writers probably got sick of making her the victim of the week and outside of that, she has no narrative role the senshi can't fill.
