So many PS2 subtext classics...the specific genre is dead.
>>2905267The games themselves are in the lower end of subtext (besides Crimson Butterfly), but Gekijōban Zero (the Fatal Frame live action adaption) is one of the most underrated Yuri movies ever in my opinion.
Rule of Rose exists, so everything else is irreverent.
>>2905271the dog deserved it
Long live ReixMiku. Fuck Fatal Frame 5.
>>2905271Isn't Rule of Rose very homophobic? Why should we celebrate it?
>>2905280FF5 really killed Miku's development from 3... 5 is still my favorite tho . . . or 4, not completely sure.By the way, is there any rumors at all about Fatal Frame 6?
>>2905270I liked it, but I did expect a bit more o "Fatal Frame" in it.
>>2905572Rule of Rose is very progressive for it's day.
>>2905270It had an unironic Class S ending though
>>2905572Horror is conservative at its core. Jason hates drugs and pre-marital sex almost as much as a conservative congressman
How is it homophobic? There's the dead lesbian trope, but it's super progressive to have underaged females having same sex attraction, and it not being portrayed as bad,
How is the Yomawari series? I hear there's subtext in them.
>>2905786Wasn’t it about bestiality?
>>2905689>for it's daySo it's a relic, not something to be touted as still being good.
>>2905789Played the 1st game year ago, and then I quit after the first jumpscare.
>>2905789Some other nee-san will probably be able to give you a good explanation (something I wouldn't be able to), so I'll just go ahead and say that Midnight Shadows (that is the second game), does have some subtext (and well, in the first game the protagonist go wandering around at night, full of spooky things, looking for her onee-chan, but there aren't much dialogue, so I guess you can just see that the way you want), but I wouldn't recommend you to play for that alone, I myself really like the art style and atmosphere (and the ghosts, some more than others), so if watching a trailer don't get you interested, I don't think you would like it (or yes, who knows).>>2905821You mean the ghostly jumpscare, or the one after you throw the first rock (yeah, I think that was a nice way to stay spoiler free)?
>>2905831>the ghostly jumpscare, or the one after you throw the first rockThe ghost. The rock throwing one caught me by surprise but I can still handle it unlike the ghost one. Is there going to be more of that later in the game?
>>2905896It's been about 3 years, so I can't really tell you for sure... there will be other scares, but not quite as "jumpy"(?) as the first one tho, plus, the town have a lot of ghosts here and there, and you can only see (most of) them in the light (from the streetlights or your flashlight), so that may cause some scares as well.
>>2905783>Wait for me till you graduate. They then makeout. It wasn't Class S.
>>2905784Jason has a legit excuse for his hatred for sex and drugs not sure of what his opinion on rock'n roll is though and we all can at least identify and sympathize with the latter when it comes to het sex.
>>2906169>Jason has a legit excuse for his hatred for sex and drugsDoes he really? His backstory seems to change from film to film so it' hard to tell.
>>2906169If he would only kill men, I would be fine with him. But he also kills convertable females, so fuck him.
>>2905971Watch the movie again, it's available on youtube with subs. FeMC try to give a goodbye kiss to her love interest but she rejects her. FeMC sobs and her voice in off tells this was the end of their childhood The only way they could make it more clear is with Abe making a last minute cameo for saying "marry and reproduce"
>>2906169It's not only Jason. It has been noticed that the slasher genre has a very conservative core with its fixation on virginity. Some say it's really about the desintegration of the idealized white suburbs and AIDS, with this monster as the big other punishing teenagers for engaging on the same hedonism their parents engaged
>>2906169Jason is probably the least malicious of horror movie slasher character. He's just protecting his territory (most of the time) and doesn't discriminate. He kills cleanly and efficiently. Doesn't do anything perverted to his female victims. There's a reason he was "the good guy" in Freddy VS Jason.
Cybil from Silent Hill's movie was my awakening to my desire for other girls.
>>2906418She looked so good with Rose. Femme & Butch.
Any modern horror games with Yuri elements?
>>2906452Are there any modern horror games? Feels like a pretty dead genre.
>>2906456>Amensia >Outlast>Resident Evil Soft Reboot (7 and 2's remake)Those are the only big series that I know that are popular. Plenty of indie games.
>>2906456Far from it. The last five years have been very good in resurrecting the genre.
>>2906462Only if you're into Youtube jumpscare walking simulators.
>>2906478How the fuck are the new Resident Evil Games jumpscare simulators? Contrarian fucking retard.
>>2906478If you're referring to Outlast and Amnesia, those games have a heavy focus on stealth and puzzle solving. Just because they aren't made by Japanese people doesn't make them "walking simulators' moron. Eastern Horror fans are so fucking pathetic. You're games are dead for a reason.
>>2906478>Evil Within Series>New Resident Evil Games >Death Stranding >Soma >Until Dawn and Man of Medan >Metro seriesKeep seething idiot.
>>2906483>Mediocre action game with horror elements>I'll give you that one.>Unreleased.>Walking simulator.>Interactive B-movie.>Metro is horror?
>>2906481Nice projecting there. I'm actually a fan of western horror. It's just that western devs can't seem to "get" horror right.
>>2906489>a genre that tends to be entirely subjective>one half can't seem to get it rightGee anon, maybe you should just only care about terror since you want to act as if you have some high ground.
>>2906489>forcing your view on horror onto others. Fuck off. There's a reason why those games are popular, they scare people. That's horror right there. >>2906487Soma has an option to turn it into a walking dim, the regular game has stealth, chases, and puzzle solving. Just because you can't shoot with clunky tank controls dosen't mean it isn't a horror game.>Evil Within is now an action game.Try playing on a setting that isn't easy fuckwit.
>Some people don't consider Amnesia a horror game. That's fucking stupid.
I recommended this old wii game called Callinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_RsFyyRZcoWhen I played it years ago, I can only think of it as pretty gay.
>>2906504Those people are lightweights. And Soma IS walking simulator. And TEW is an action game, changing the difficulty doesn't make it scary.
>>2906510Putting some in caps doesn't make it better newfag. Go back to /v/ were you belong.
>>2906510Then everyone of your garbage tank control shit is awful. Because those games aren't scary. They play like shit. They have hideous graphics. Eastern horror games are dead and being raped by the western genre because the western genre is better.
>>2906511Soma just isn't scary. It's story is kinda interesting, but not frightening or haunting.>>2906513Tank controls take like a couple of minutes to get used to, git gud. Horror are primarily about horror, not action gameplay. Graphics don't make a game scary, in fact sometimes it does the opposite. Imagination and atmosphere >>> Graphics.
Could you idiots at least post some gay pics while having this /v/-tier discussion?
>>2905267Does this mean MIoxMayu is canon?
>>2907889Has there ever been a time when it hasn't been?
>>2907911Isn't "kek" a "4chan general"?
>>2908024It's not so much about the kek, as it is about it being a low quality post that just says "kek" for no reason.
>>2908050I see. Then it's fine, thanks.
>>2908422You will have to enlighten me on this one, miss.
>>2908422What a pretty nee-san
Who would like to see Ruka x Sakuya.No...just me?
>>2908640All of the MCsxMain Ghost pairs are severely underrated. MikuxKirie, MioxSae, and ReixReika too.
>>2905267It feels like this was my first yuri ship. I liked this game even though the ending bothered me so much.
>>2908884The ending left me depressed for a while. There's always the good and perfect endings, but FF3 canonised the normal ending.
>>2908911To be honest I kinda like the normal ending
>>2908794>All of the MCsxMain Ghost pairs are severely underrated.Everything considered, all pairs are underrated, even MioxMayu which is the most popular, don't have nearly as much content as I would want...>>2908640>No...just me?Artistswise? Seems like it. There's some MisakixSakuya, but none of Sakuya with Ruka, as far as I know anyways. In general? Surely not. In fact, never.>>2909109I have an old lady's heart, I can't handle sad endings very well.
>>2909109I mean, it's the most emotionally impactful ending sure, but I still want for them to get a happy ending. I really like the cheesy golden ending of the xbox version.I think it would have been better if FF3 didn't canonise any of the endings. That game had enough going for it to stand on its own, it didn't need to meddle in the previous games' plots. Plus it kinda feels like it bites more than it can chew with so many subplots.
>>2909109I think it was the most appropriate ending considering the events. I also liked it when Mayu ended up taking care of her sister after Mio looked into the Abyss.>>2909188That Xbox ending was pretty bad.>tfw hearing Chou still gets me in the feels 16 years later
>>2909215>when Mayu ended up taking care of her sister after Mio looked into the Abyss. Not gonna lie, that ending was kinda hot. Specially with Mayu's devilish smile. You just know she loves the idea of Mio being dependent on her now. Mio also probably became very sensitive after going blind.
>>2909226>Not gonna lie, that ending was kinda hot. Specially with Mayu's devilish smile. That was probably the best ending in my book. I feel bad for Mio but I love possessive Mayu. Besides, they both lived. Such a shame that there's not a lot of fanfiction based on that ending.
Akaiito and Aoishiro are the only fully text Yuri games I know. Wouldn't mind a lesbian silent hill game.
>>2905267The series peaked at 2. In terms of atmosphere, Yuri, and story it just blows everything else out of the water. I wonder why they couldn't capture the magic for any of the other games.
Are the Project Zero games worth playing then? A good amount of Yuri subtext?
>>2910334Well, FF2 has quite a bit of twincest subtext, FF4 has a pair of subtext-y friendships, and FF3 has a googleable relationship between Miku and Rei. But overall I'd say you shouldn't play them just for the yuri (specially given that them being horror games, tragic ends are common). The gameplay is okay for a survival horror of its day. Puzzles are repetitive and uninspired, but battle is fun, and it's good at being atmospheric and scary. Something always keeps you on your toes.
>>2910308>lesbian silent hill game.SH3 was very close to being this. If they had gone with the idea of "SH2 with teenage issues" instead of it being a sequel to the first game, we may have gotten something from the relationship between Heather and Claudia. Even in the finished game it's clear that Claudia is crazy for Alessa.>>2910330I guess the second game was really good at making you care for the characters to make the resolution emotionally impactful.
>>2910423I'm glad i'm not the only who saw that Claudia's feelings for Alessa weren't just platonic. And, although it's easy to miss, you can tell the feelings weren't completely one-sided.
Grim Grimoire horror enough?
>>2910450Poor girls only had each other during their traumatic childhoods. They only loved each other and each was only loved by the other. Alessa was all Claudia could think of for decades according to her diary.Things had to turn out the worst way with Heather.
>>2910483The only horror about that game is that it didn't get a sequel.
>>2911592A crying shame it didn't, fellow oneesan. Was such a joy to play.
>>2906205he died before he could try sex and drugs. he's just a boy who started puberty when he passed and since his corpse is rotten and basically has no nerves, he can't feel any effect drugs has on his body and can't get it going for het
>>2912519I thought he died an adult. He grew up in the forest, somehow surviving all by himself and never tried to look for help or return to his mother. It was only in the fourth movie when he died, was replaced by a copycat in the fifth, and then came back as a zombie in the sixth. But then, it turns out he really is a dead kid, and his adult body is some kind of shell? And then he turns into a worm that posesses people? And then his adult body reappears with no explanation?Honestly, nothing about Jason makes any sense. I think I'll keep the story of the crazy mother who might or might not been influenced by the ghost of her dead son.
>>2909226Did Mayu purposely cripple herself so Mio wouldn't leave her behind.
>>2912613It's implied but not stated, IIRC.
>>2912519>>2912537His backstory was that he drowned as a child because the camp councilors were too busy getting it on and the other kids detested him because of his mental retardation. He survived because horror movie logic and didn't truly become the camp killer until Alice killed his mother in 1, after which he started killing visitors in an act of vengeance and tributes to his mom. I believe part 2 is where he died and reanimated as a zombie in 3, where he got his iconic hockey mask. After that is where things get convoluted yeah.
>>2912973>>2906169>>2906205Never watched any of those movies, so all I know is those figs are glorious.Especially Jason.
>>2912973>>2912519>>2913100>>2905784>Horror is conservative at its core. Jason hates drugs and pre-marital sex almost as much as a conservative congressmanHorror is conservative at it's core, as that last nee-san said, because all fear is essentially based, in some measure, int he fear of the unknown. The opposite of which, of course, is the known/the traditional/the values that hadn't killed you. Now, they're often "conservative' too, in the more contemporary political sense, because of fears (unfounded or not) about the moral/ethical/societal consequences of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And these horror characters, be they Jason or Freddy or Chucky or whoever, play their roles "for" or "against" those values.
