Old thread got deleted so I'm remaking it.

This thread is for any personal yuri projects you're currently working on or have ideas for, and to get feedback and advice from other creative anons.

So whatcha all workin on?

What is the appropriate length for a dumb oneshot comic?
>>
>>2922787
I'd say it would really depend on the work. One shots could be any where from a few pages to 50+. Can we get a rundown?
>>
Could I post here to get some "beta readers", some people who I can contact and share the first draft of my comic with, without posting it online publicly? Or does it even matter
>>
>>2922803
It can definitely help, but two things: gotta keep in mind with what you want regarding a beta reader. Someone to just read it over first and give their impression/likes+dislikes and not really looking for syntax issues unless they're glaring or something more akin to an editor/person to bounce ideas off of. The other thing to keep in mind is that this board is slow, you can likely find some people but it might take a while. Longer than you may like.
>>
>>2922805
Hmm, good points anon. Will have to consider it when I get to that point.

I'm nearly to 25 pages lined and I'm trying to decide some logistics stuff, like if it's worth doing the whole thing in color or doubling down on lineart and studying the way manga gets inked more to leave it nicely black and white. Part of me wants to push towards 50-60 pages so that I at least have quantity on my side but since it's taken me so long to even get this far that'd be a lot more time investment.
>>
>>2922803
Yeah. I've done beta reading for writers in the past, so I could help, but I have no eye for art.

This thread should be for original stores only. Fanfic has its own dedicated thread >>2889027 and there are anons over there who will beta.

I'd double down on the line art if you're going for a manga style. It'll also help you improve your skill if you're gonna do 50 pages of it.

No anon, it's where they begin. But you have to take the first step, and then keep walking for as long as it takes.

That's a pretty good point I hadn't considered, thanks anon.

Isn’t that the “Ideas Thread?” Or is this an evolution of those threads?

I do have a webnovel I’ve been working on. Five chapters up on Scribblehub right now. There are some parts I do want to revise but full-time job and most days off I end up not writing much. At first I was writing at a pretty steady pace but releases have been tapering off and I’ve been told that’s basically a death sentence for a webnovel
>>
>>2922876
The Valley one?
>>
>>2922878
Maybe? It’s called Erislethe: Valley of the Dragon Queen
>>
I have lots of ideas, but cannot write well.
Here's one I'm "working on" in my head; it might sound familiar if you are aware of classic novels. TL;DR: modern day lesbian Count of Monte Cristo

Set initially in the modern day in the middle of the Nevada desert where an old-timey mehanic shops and gas station sits in the middle of the desert along the old highway. Our protagonist is a young woman in the prime of her life - a professional grease monkey at her father's shop, with short cropped, slicked back black hair, tight jeans, and a biker jacket. Her whole life revolves around the little mechanic stop and the people there. As the story starts, she is set to inherit the shop from her aging father, she has a killer bike that is only second to her killer girlfriend who hangs around the shop. Aside from her father, a kindly old man who is getting too high in years, she works with a greedy middle aged man who above all else desires money, her aggressive, slightly younger male cousin desperate for a life outside the nowhere desert, and a similarly aged second cousin - a blonde, tanned (almost gyaru) type of woman.
One night a car is desperate shape speeds into the station, and the the driver passes out of exhaustion. Late for a date with her girlfriend, she asks cousin mechanic to take care of it (which he grudgingly does).
The next morning, still naked in bed with her girlfriend, the police bust in and arrest her for complicity in a drug smuggling ring. She finds out later just before being given a life sentence, that her associates at the shop had set her up when the car full of drugs had driven in - older man taking her prized bike, young ambitious cousin taking over the shop she was set to inherit, and jealous blonde gyaru stealing her killer girlfriend.
Dragged into a tough prison, she has to deal with aggressive prisoners and savage wardens- but she soon meets a wise older woman in the cell next door... [1/?]
>>
>>2922927 Part 2/3

The wise woman teaches her ow to survive prison, and beat the systems the warden has put in place to keep the prisoners in line, while also teaching MC the finer points of the world outside the small mechanic shop which encompassed all she knew. Soon enough the old woman is on her deathbed, and she tells MC about a legendary treasure hidden in an old manor she once lived in in a wealthy area far to the east. Thinking quickly, MC switches places with the old woman's dead body and escapes the prison.
Once out, she heads east to the Philadelphia suburbs, to the old money bastion of the Main Line, and comes upon the old manor, now overgrown from age and disuse. Hidden cleverly in the carriagehouse she finds the incredible large amount of treasure... so much that she simple buys the manor, <name of manor TBD>. Ten years of travel and learning pass, and she returns to the manor, spending lavishly to return it to splendor, and emerges as a new, unrecognizeable woman - the Lady of <manor name>.
In the years since she was put away, the greedy, sleazy old man had leveraged her bike and hit it big in Vegas, retiring into an easy life being sleazy in the same Main Line town. Her cousin turned the mechanic shop in a large national business and now has a mansion there himself, and her gyaru cousin married MC's former girlfriend, stealing away to Philadelphia high society.
The main plot finally begins, where she systematically gets her revenge on each of them by entirely dismantling all they've won and ruining their lives after she enters the high money fashionable scene as her fabulous, long-hair, alpha dyke, onee-sama-like alter ego.
MC does things such as banging the sleazy guy's trophy wife and rigging his casino chances to lose it all in a big way, engaging in clever business practices to cause strife and conern in he cousin's business, causing him to destroy himself out of grief over his misfortune, and just straight up ruining the gyaru's social status.
>>
>>2922936 Part 3

Former GF of course sees their the disguise where no one else does, but is conflicted with her new life and her memories of the past. MC doesn't ruin her as she does the others, but leaves her in the dust by the end.
Other cast in high society includes the old money families, from where she finds a young GF to steal away, and another where she gets a gay friend to be her partner in crime in setting up the ultimate revenge schemes in the closed wealthy society.
Finally finished with her revenge, she relaxes, painfully, in her large lavish manor, still sorrowful about her old lost life with her bike, desert shop, and killer GF even though she now has her new hot rich GF and giant manor.

Thanks for reading all that rambling nonsense. Someone that is good at writing could make that good.

I made another recommendation vid. This time on Urara Meirochou. What do you think?
https://youtu.be/7Gm0LWwIVq4

What show should I do next? I want to do a quick 12-13 episode show once a week like this to improve my skill.
>>
>>2922955
Don't want to tell you how to do things but are there any series you particularly dislike? It seems most animetubers find more success when they're tearing something apart.

I know of a few channels like Gigguk, Mother's Basement, and Digibro that made a name for themselves by eviscerating SAO back when people thought it was good.
>>
>>2923010
Might not be for the best outside of just warning whether something's yuri or not.
>>
>>2923012
Assuming I’m replying to MagicalBoyChan here. Are you aiming to reach a more general anime audience or /u/ in particular? You want to keep it strictly to anime or include games, manga, etc?

I guess I should also what series you’re most fond of, because that will probably give you the most and best material, like how Digi can talk at length and in absurd detail about Log Horizon
>>
>>2923021
To be fair, Log Horizon's only flaws are lack of yuri and a season 3.
>>
>>2923010
There's very few things I outright hate, and really there's only one show I can't stand. But I don't really find doing negative videos very "constructive" I guess. I more want to give people a better idea of what yuri is and advise them on shows that might have the right level of yuri for them.

>>2923021
That wasn't me but right now I want to make kind of more /u/, slice of life related content. I do have a large project in the works, going to go through the precure series one by one and talk about them, making a video for each.

I don't really want to do super analytical videos, just because I think it's kind of unnecessary for the type of shows i watch. I don't really think anyone could say get really in depth about something like Kirino Mosaic. Maybe Slice of Life as a whole but not for individual shows.
>>
On and off, I write a BDSM themed story where a group of girls enslave one of their friends. It's slow going because I know fuck-all about writing. I post it on /d/ whenever I have new material (which isn't very often).

Anyway I've been having this idea about two teenage girls (even decided their names), Hannah and Lucy who discover that in the past, Lucy's mom used to submit to Hannah's aunt. The women lost contact and Lucy's mom never realized Hannah was her former mistress niece, since they have different last names.

The main plot would be the reunion between Lucy's mom and her former mistress. And also Lucy coming to terms with it, seeing her mother being humiliated by a woman. Lucy also would feel conflicted because in a way her friend Hannah would expect her to follow in her mother's steps, even suggesting that Lucy should submit to her.
>>
What show should i do next for >>2922955

Looking for a 1 cour show, maybe something kind of recent. Probably gonna fall back and do an older more well known show If I can't come up with anything.
>>
>>2923611
How about Hina Logi?
>>
>>2923611
Tonari no Kyuuketsukisan.
>>
>>2923614
>>2923709
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do both of these.
>>
I’m writing a light novel that I want to include a yuri subplot in.
What makes yuri best in your opinion?
>>
>>2923821
Kinda unclear from your wording here, are you asking what makes stories with yuri the best? (i.e. what is good about yuri?) Or what makes for the best kind of yuri? (i.e. what kind of yuri do you think is the best?)
Assuming the second: All different kinds of yuri are good yuri and the type liked best is going to vary infinitely form person to person. So I don't really know how useful any answers to that question are going to be to you. For example, the best yuri for me is yuri with heavy angst, particularly with characters who are dead inside from self-loathing/deprecation/hopelessness; or yuri with master/servant dynamics, particularly when the servant's devotion is absolute and endless. But plenty of people probably hate both of these things, or they don't matter much.

I'd say you're better off thinking about general story elements rather than what makes the best yuri. Like, what do you mean by "yuri subplot"? A female MC who has a girlfriend but that relationship is just a side element? A yuri side couple? yuri-ish hijinks a la Railgun/CGDCT? Is there a male MC or het relationship overshadowing the yuri as part of the main plot?
>>
>>2923821
Just write what you want. As long as it’s interesting in it’s own right you’re bound to pick up readers.

>>2922803
Sure, when do you need the availability on?
>>
>>2923851
My initial idea was to write a light novel in the romance and adventure genre. The main couple being a boy and girl, but I also want to have a yuri couple. My current idea is to have the yuri pairing to have a strong and controlling Tsundere. She'd be a sort of no-nonesense foil to the girl she's interested in.
>>
>>2923611
Would you ever want to narrate a yuri fanfic like an audiobook? It would be pretty hilarious.
>>
>>2925012
>yuri fanfic
>male narrator
Sounds pretty shit.
>>
>>2924771
>The main couple being a boy and girl, but I also want to have a yuri couple.
For who? I don't know why shows do this either. Hetfags are going to be paying attention to the main romance and not care much about the side couple, and yurifags don't want to have to dig through a het story they aren't that invested in for brief bits of background yuri.

I'm not saying to not do it, write what you want, I'm sure it would turn out fine for general audience; but there's not really any advice/suggestions to give that are going to improve the yuri (for people who looking for yuri) when the yuri content is second fiddle to het content. You could write 10/10 GOAT best yuri couple in existence and it would still be annoying because they're supporting characters in a series mainly about het. Chuunibyou is a pretty solid example of what this looks like in practice. DekoMoriSummer is a really endearing pairing, but it being very enjoyable doesn't make the show as a whole any better if you're someone watching it for them, because you just end up having to watch a bunch of crap about a het couple you don't give a shit about hoping for some moments for the yuri characters on the side, and then getting annoyed that the main characters even exist.
>>
>>2925012
Maybe if it was like a really bad fanfic sure. Could be pretty funny.
>>
>>2925019
I’ll certainly keep that in mind. I thought I’d ask here since to get s good idea of what people look for in yuri pairings.
On topic, what kind of character goes well with a stern, no-nonsense type? A submissive girl doesn’t seem too ideal since I wanted the Tsundere to have a hard time coming to terms with her feeling. On the other hand, it might be funny to see a girl drop her spaghetti over a soft girl.
>>
>>2925574
If you're actually sticking to being what a tsundere actually is, then someone of a similar temperament but perhaps a little more experienced then. She could still be soft while being a stern, no-nonsense type and showing the tsun that being a hardass isn't all it's cracked up to be.
>>
>>2925574
A genki girl who likes to tease her with innuendo
>>
>>2925574
A no-nonsense tsundere is an oxymoron. I assume you mean she just has a stick up her ass. To balance that out, you need either a confident girl who cuts through all her bullshit and makes the tsundere melt/be honest, or a submissive girl for whom the tsundere exclusively behaves delicately, in other words, tsun towards everyone else, and dere towards her partner.

I was working on a comedic YuriJam 2018 project but stopped because I got self-conscious. Please give me the courage to let other people see what I make.
>>
>>2925699
*gives courage*

Can we see it now, oneesan?
>>
>>2925574
How about a kuudere or darudere-type girl who's completely oblivious to the tsundere's feelings for her, all while accidentally charming her by unintentionally being kind/dashing/what have you? It could be a just about any kind of girl, though. Tsunderes are pretty pliable.

Speaking personally, I don't really mind yuri side-pairings in otherwise het things, so long as they're their own thing and don't want to fuck the male MC or anything like that. Take Shokugeki no Soma for example, that's a frustrating series because there are two lesbians who are obviously in love with the main female lead, but she pretty only has eyes for the male MC, which makes the whole thing feel kind of pointless. But I digress, good luck with your writing. So long as you do what you genuinely like, you'll find an audience.

By the way, is there anywhere in particular you were going to publish it? As in, is there a website or something for western light novels that isn't just a fanfic site that doubles for original work? Just curious.
