What are some books that would make great video games?
>>
reading is for fags
>>

and videogames are for cucks and niggers. what's your point?

>>384292295

Mistborn, a decent Dune game, a psycholigal horror using The Metamorphosis as premise (inb4 bad mojo)

The Stormlight Archive. Honestly it feels like it was designed around a videogame.

hey, guess what you're doing right now?

how would they show the messiah getting gangraped as a child in a video game, though?
>>
>>384292295

Fucking love this series. Just finished the first three Dread Empire books, are the others worth it? They didn't have quite the same charm.

Did you read only GotM? Deadhouse Gates is a lot better. He stepped up his storytelling in it by a good bit.
>>
>MC writes, basically porn, of him and The Lady
>gets to meet her
>ends up scared shitless of her
That didn't go as I was hoping for.
It got better after a few books though, which was nice.
>>
>>384295513
I'm currently halfway through the third
I just feel like the characters aren't explicit enough. Possibly because they're introduced in such a rapid succession with very little introduction or explanation.

It picked up in the last third of either the first or the second book, when it started focusing on a much smaller group of people but now we're back to it expecting you to remember like seventy different characters

I really need to get back to it.
>>
>>384295815
Yeah, if you're not down with following a dozen or so character arcs, the series just isn't for you. It gets worse as the series goes on. I love it, but can definitely see why it's off putting for some.
>>
>>384296187
Fuck you leatherhead
>>
Is /v/ ready for Oathbringer?
>>
>>384296329
I could manage like a dozen or so, ASOIAF also had that, though maybe more like 6-8 character arcs, but this is basically a new character every 3 pages
>>
>>384296103

But he didn't say that he disliked it, he said the relationship between Croaker and the Lady got better after a few books. I was just saying that their relationship continues to develop and become more important to the plot as the books go on.

>>384296310

I'd recommend it. Is that before or after the perspective switches to Murgen?

This, it gets much worse introducing an entire new continent's cast of characters halfway through the series.

But my god does it end magnificently. Hood is such a bro,
>>
>>384294998
Honestly I got four books in before the 24th delivery of that line broke my will to go on. I have no idea why that meaningless "battle of the sexes" dialogue had to happen so many times and LEAD NOWHERE. I cannot remember anything about neverinne or whatever her name was save for her supposed intelligence and that she said mean things. All of the main characters were ridiculously awful.

>>
>>384292295
So basically what I'm reading here is that it's normal to not know what the fuck is going on at the beginning? At first I thought that this might not be the first book in the series.
I'm at page 104 now and I'm still not sure what is happening.
>>
>>384296596
>Is that before or after the perspective switches to Murgen?
Crooker is still the POV
>>
>>384296082
/lit/ would rather swallow a live hand grenade than discuss genre fiction
>>
>>384296692
The worst bit is you can skip an entire book, I think it was either 6 or 7, and not miss a single thing. An entire book and the plot barely advances at all.
>>
>>384296838
is fiction even a genre?
isn't it basically just a trait of a genre?

>>384296824

Ah, okay. Yeah, without spoiling anything the POV jumps around a bit for the rest of the series, which gives things a bit of a fresh take. Murgen really comes out on his own as a character.
>>
>>384296747

Isnt Earthbound inspired by IT?
>>
>>384296808
Yeah. It reads like a journal entry from an already aged company, so it gives a lot of story for granted.
But the idea is: Mercenary band gets hired by the evil conqueror of the North, shit happens after.
>>
>all books up until ending are god tier
>reach final book
>storywriting falls off a fucking cliff
>much hyped super kid who is supposed to be main character for ending put in permanent coma
>literally fucking nothing happens
if he had actually written an ending this would have been a great series.
>>384295060
Not everyone can have good taste, don't worry about your shortfallings anon. Really the only popular high fantasy series that is legitimately bad is Sword of Truth, the rest have at least some merits and usually a lot of them.
People hate Wheel of Time because they are reading/interpreting it incorrectly all the time; they see that females are all bitches and are ruining the world, but that's precisely WHY they are good books, it shows that females in leadership positions ruin fucking everything, and goes on to show exactly how in a very realistic manner (aside from there being magic and shit, obviously, but just replace magic with weapons of mass destruction or high powered guns when nobody else has them and it's the same shit). SoIaF is decent if you never watch the TV show and ruin all of your perceptions of the characters. Prince of Nothing is top tier psychological manipulation high fantasy. Stormlight is still too early to tell but the level of detail in worldbuilding is where I like it to be already. Mistborn first series is kinda crappy, W&W is god tier though. Chronciles of Amber has quite a few very unique takes on fantasy and good storytelling overall even when the MCs switch around a couple times. High fantasy is overall a very good genre if you are looking for escapism from real life, which, you absolutely should always be looking for, because real life is absolute dog shit.

>>
>>384296808
I don't remember being confused by it. Black company starts working for Soulcatcher who works for Lady. There are like 12 generals who work under Lady (including Soulcatcher) and they are all very powerful (magic or something). The Black company know that Lady is evil, they know they can't trust the other generals (backstabbing and evil) and are unsure if they can trust Soulcatcher (mysterious and probably evil). The Black Company try to make sure they will survive.

Pretty much.

>>
>>384298139

it is, to keep it short and spoiler free is 100 years after the end of the original trilogy. The author didn't wanted to make another trilogy but it became a standalone novel and it was followed by a new trilogy.

There are a lot of references with the old world and there are twinborns.

It's nice, different, better? I don't know, I liked the original trilogy (even if it had its flaws).

Check it out, pirate the first book and if you like it, buy it. It's like this:

original trilogy -> Alloy of Law -> Trilogy of Alloy of Law timeline -> future mistborn

They don't even need to go by the books.

I want an RTS game where I manage a Reshi God-island and have to fight other mega crabs and do trade with !Jews.

I want a musou game where I play a full Shardbearer on the Shattered Plains where I just wreck Parshendi all day e'reday, then deal with political intrigue off the battle field.

I want a survival rogue-like where you play as a Bridge Runner, running and doing chasm scavenging.

I want a AssCreed/Spiderman game where I play a Mistborn assassin for a noble house, with multiplayer where you play as different Misting Classes

I think he's the only one referred directly to as Historian. One of the reasons why it feels like there's a disconnect from the first book and the rest is that Erikson was originally writing Memories of Ice as the second book and ended up losing all of it when he near the end. It's like a decade in between the publishment of the first and second books.
>>

It is basically like this:
>Evil people controller an empire
>The Dominator rises (even more evil and powerful). Dominator has The Taken as loyal servants (The Limper, Soul Catcher, etc)
>The Lady marries The Dominator
>The White Rose (basically magic Joan of Arc) defeats The Dominator, The Taken, The Lady and all the army and traps them in an underground cell because she isn't powerful enough to kill them all
>Years later, someone tries to free The Dominator and co. yet it only frees The Taken and The Lady
>The Lady takes control of The Taken and tries to retake the empire
>Soul Catcher (one of the Taken) forms a contract with The Black Company. Basically: The Black Company works for Soul Catcher that works for The Lady

The thing is that The Taken are loyal to The Dominator. They don't really like each other nor The Lady that much, but The Lady is a mean and powerful bitch, so they play along.
The Rebel was the new party in power before The Lady and friends woke up.
>>
>>384294704
They are okay but definitely weaker than the first three. They have big plot holes in them that require you to forget a few things in the first three to make the characters not seem like dumbasses though.

Thaylen trading game where you need to run around Roshar and manage your goods to by a relative out of slavery or something. Failing to pay debts lands you in slavery yourself

Total War: Final Empire

Game that is a cross between Red Faction and Thief where you play a cutpurse in Kharbranth. You eventually steal a Shardblade (via murder) and get to carve up walls. Stealing a Soulcaster lets you fuck around with the environment even more. Game culminates in a heist of the Palaneum

The problem is the powerlevel differences are too absurdly high if they were to do the shit in canon. Azathanai are literal gods, and then they gained dragon forms. The Jaghut were so powerful that they had to dissolve their own society so as not to internally destroy themselves. Anomander is only a tiny step below them and that is overcompensated by the fact that his sword is the most overpowered weapon in existence. Forkrul elders are around Anomander's level, or slightly higher, but again, his sword tilts the scales way too far in his favor. Just about the only non-immortals that could hold a candle to the immortals are the ascendant mortals, Quick Ben, and pyromaniac loli, and honestly Ben probably has a better shot at them than the other ascendants do because of his surprise factor of being able to use every type of magic.

Yea, but note the plural on that, because of the way magic works in Malazan, you are at a substantial disadvantage if you are outnumbered unless your power gap is massive, and even then it was usually in situations like that where even immortals were injured, I was just referring to 1 on 1 fights because it would be too hard to calculate otherwise. For example, that autist savant mage kid who was in one book who had the barrier magic that managed to hold against a ton of shit (though he did burn himself out in the process) would be a very overpowered support for most anyone.

Scott Lynch's deal with the devil ran out hard.

The very first agent he sent a book to took him as a client. The very first publisher his agent sent that book to gave Lynch a 7-book deal. Some charmed life shit.

Then Lynch has a nervous fucking breakdown after book 2. Loses his shit, becomes highly neurotic, takes forever to get medicated. His wife leaves him, making his life even worse. During this time he starts writing a free episodic throwback scifi serial online which he is also unable to finish beyond the first few chapters despite hype and promises.

Eventually he puts the shattered shards of his consciousness back together with heavy medication and gets book 3 out. This is apparently helped in large part by his mentor, Elizabeth Bear, another fantasy author who is at least 1, maybe 2 decades older than Lynch. They become an item and are now married.

Book 4 is nowhere to be seen despite promises and the deadlines continue to slip.

What is it with fantasy authors like Lynch/Rothfuss/Martin that causes them to be unable to deliver once their shit gets hot? Abercrombie and Sanderson, despite being inferior prose stylists (maybe because of it?) crank out shitloads of books like they are candy.

Now suddenly another reliable author, Jim Butcher, he of the faggy haircut, seems to have fallen into the no-longer-gives-a-fuck-about-finishing category.

This was a pretty good series, and would make for a decent hacky slashy or musou.

Anyone want to help remember a book? Don't remember too many details, but the main character could control the elements, there was a badass blind ninja, and the main villains couldn't be killed with regular weapons.

Are the later Black Company books good? I dropped it when they were in the South and Croaker stopped being the protagonist but I often think back and wonder if I made a bad decision in doing so.

The first book of this is amazing, and every book after that gets progressively shittier imho

Focusing on the spartan-arabs was a mistake. The small town europe/americana survival feel was much more appealing to me, and I'm not even a /pol/tard

so much potential. They could go to full action based game like Prototype with Assain Crred with a Mistborn doing missions and jumping around a city or something more RPG and focus in allomancers and not mistborn.

so much fucking potential wasted

They're worth sticking with until the end. It changes protagonists a few more times, but the last book you get back to croaker and its glorious.

Lolita. Would be...Great.

T.H White's The Once and Future King would be a great RPG setting either following Arthur through his life or playing as one of the many knights in his employ, you'd get to experience the lawlessness before rule of law was established as well as the eventual schism and downfall. Lots and lots of 1 on 1 rival style boss fights, tournament melees, questing as a knight errant, etc. Large scale army battles also a possibility.

An open world dresden files game would be fucking fantastic and would translate very well imo.

A Worm MMO as a spiritual successor to City of Heroes is my wet dream game.

A full noblebright Arthurian mythos game with camraderie and derring-do amongst knights leading to inevitable tragedy would be rad as fuck, with all the knights having different specialties, like Sir DexFag and Sir BigShield
