well its going to be an independent unit, so you're only going to have the shit that comes with it, and given the price, you're probably not getting hardware capable of running any kind of skyrim.

incidentally what you're looking for already exists with normal vr headsets, you'd just have to get a vr mod for whatever game.

There is no justifying it, it's clearly designed by and for pedos

Well, there is one possible justification--that it will somehow prevent degenerate scum pedos from eventually acting on their mental illness and succumbing to their impulse, thus hurting a child, but typically they devolve and molest children eventually no matter the prevention method

Yea it's a shame. It will only be good for watching VR porn.
Unless they're selling it at a heavy loss the hardware is going to be too weak for proper games, and being wireless it's going to have a shitty battery life.

For $200 I might pick one up if I was able to plug it into my PC. You can still have a pretty good time with flying/driving games with only the basic accelerometer/gyro tracking.

Some people can't have a station. I see this one as a great portable monitor with also some occasional VR games.

Obviously people who are serious about VR will want the rift.

Personally, I can't wait for the next generation. Pimax is already making a 8K headset. The 8KX with native 90Hz 8K signal is """just""" $650 dollars for the headset, with is compatible with Vive stations and controllers. They have already released a 4K headset and have publicly tested prototypes of the 8K (not X) and 5K new headsets

The player is facing a wall that looks like this. Write an optical tracking system that can detect his position. It needs to have less than 20 ms of latency, too (Kinect has something like 270 ms). Putting markers on the wall is not an option unless you're targeting autistic turbo nerds.

What the fuck? You some kind of anti-white racist? Palmer Lucky promoted some Donald Trump memes, that is it. And John Carmack is a literal genius, the greatest man to exist in 3D rendering. His design is in every single 3D game that exists today, and has existed for the past 30 years. His code and methods for 3D engines are in every engine that exists today. He also built his own space ship from scratch. One of the smartest men that is alive today.

You would be wise to back any tech he is involved in. He isn't creative sure, he is a technical genius though. Oculus has all the talent under their ship. HTC has a clone product that was derived from a long canceled Valve project and the early ODKs sent to Valve free of charge during the Kikestarter project.

Oculus is a subsidiary of Facebook, an American company. Also, if they want to sell in the US they still have to get that FCC approval.

I found a specsheet, actually. Well, at least a posted resolution - 2160x1200 @ 90hz. Now while I wish it was this resolution per eye, I know it's going to be a single screen with two "windows" at a forced perspective so the lens can reshape the image to look correct. So since the original Occulus was sitting in at what, 1280x700? Maybe this won't be AS bad. I'll hold judgement, but not my breath.

Can you focus on close objects? Like a cellphone 8-12 inches in front of your face, and still sense depth in that object?

If so you're fine, the focal length of the rift is about a foot, so if you can focus and perceive depth at that length, you can do Oculus 3D

2160x1200 is also vive's resolution. oculus go is supposed to be 1440p so it should be slightly more dense than the vive/rift.
more important than straight resolution is processing power and features. oculus go is only rotational tracking, with one hand controller that only has rotational tracking. it's only going to support games on the level of samsung gear VR, so it would be an identical, if a bit lighter weight, experience to that. basically, you're adding a wiimote to a cardboard headset for an extra $180.

If you've got truly enormous frames then some headsets (PSVR and imitators) hang in front of your face from a tiara type thing rather than being strapped onto your face and might be more accommodating.
The Pimax thing mentioned earlier in the thread has custom lens inserts like you use for safety goggles, mite be neat.

You get all your news from the Jews?
Wesearchr is hardly a "meme organization affiliated with Trump." It is an independent investigation site founded on crowdsourcing truth. Anytime a source is needed for a news article, they put up a bounty and people find it for them in exchange for money. They do libtard and cuckservative stories. They also facilitate silly shit like erecting billboards on the side.

Jesus Christ you're a petty retard. Why the nigger-fuck do you care what a billionaire does with his money in his free time? You're a genuine dick sucker.

I don't judge you because you like to buy dragon dildos and jam them up your fucking ass while you campaign for black men to fuck your white wives.
>>
>exclusives

Ok hold up you faggots let me educate you here. Exclusives are semi-real. On the API (meaning the software) side, you can run any VR program with any VR headset. That's done by some compatibility layers in software. The problem is general app/game design which has not been optimized for the other hardware. Imagine this: you are designing your game for the Vive and you are using specific gestures on the Vive controller touchpads. Then a Rift user tries to play that. What happens? They can't play the game because Oculus' controllers don't have touchpads and the thumb sticks don't emulate touch pads well enough. Thus the game is basically unplayable and you have a Vive "exclusive". And it can happen the other way around. So that's the story about exclusives on PC.

No? I don't go around promoting it. I am a fan of John Carmack though, anything he does. Because he is a genius. I picked the product that was backed by talent, ignoring the politics behind each (who owns what).

You're the person who feels so emotionally slighted by a corporation. I'm just consuming content on the device that serves the best content for me.

If I felt Vive had better content, I'd use it instead. It is really that simple. It is the same reason I have a Lexus. Not because the brand is appealing, but because it has been the most reliable under JDPower Associates for over a decade, year after year.

You don /not/ want that. No motion controllers if you're intent on only ever using it as a monitor replacement fine, but you /need/ 1:1 head motion tracking. I tried the DK1, and every problem I had with it (aside from no mechanical IPD adjustment and resolution, both fixed with consumer hardware) came down to no motion tracking. Nauseating to no end because things in space don't move correctly unless you keep your head perfectly locked in place, which is not going to happen if you want enough screen real estate to make using a VR headset as monitors over real monitors worth it.

Free trade agreements almost always include a standardization of regulatory standards. Did you take highschool physics? A important point to know about moving objects: All motion is relative. It's impossible to know the location of one object relative to another object without a point of reference on the object you want to know the position off. You can try, and people are trying, to have "Just 3 sensors in the front, top and side", but like >>393223192 said, perfect optical tracking can not and will not ever be on par with a solid physical point to track.

Reasonable caution, but they've already shipped their previous 4K headset and it works fine, and have sent engineering samples of the 8K around to reviewers.

Would still be prudent to wait for release and production reviews, especially since they've already blown past their Kickstarter goals, but it's proven not to be some fly-by-night scam.

I'm waiting to buy a headset that has a better screen, because 1080p is hot trash. It's fun playing racing games with one, but holy shit it's hard to see upcoming turns since as is they're far off in the distance and with a shit resolution you just see them just slowly flicker into existence. It's extremely nauseating.

At $200 still no deal. I don't even use my free gear vr, because it's trash. Though watching netflix in this place is pretty cool for a bit

It is confirmed for an RGB stripe pixel arrangement by Carmack in his talk. If I remember right, reviewers said the chink 4k headset has worse responsiveness, worse colors and brightness. It's also more expensive.

>>
>>393250567
Who said it had to be deep? it's definitely satisfying and being in that colourful world is fun as hell, especially when stuff shrinks down in the underground levels. It just had to be a worthwhile exclusive, and it absolutely belongs on the "Oculus Exclusives that make it worth it over Vive" list, because it contributes to the value of the brand, especially because it's literally free with a rift and fantastic for getting your VR legs as the camera glides around
>>
>>393250720
Sure, but then you could have just listed literally all the exclusives, as all of them have things going for them even if they aren't the greatest.
>>
>>393250306
I'd be sour if I hadn't played around with an oculus and PSVR. It's just not for me. Eagle flight, raw data, and RE7 were the only things I saw worth the price tag attached, and raw data and eagle flight get incredibly repetitive a few hours in.

I think the way to pushing VR to mainstream success is taking the RE approach. Allow it to bring the player along on a more realistic ride in first person with little head-based control influencing, to get more people interested. 99% of people buying into it don't want to buy a bunch of $20-$40 'games' that are essentially repeated 30 minute experiences.

On that note, I will say robot recall was absolutely an arcade game for VR done right. If it costed money I would have paid big bucks for that. Not enough for the whole system+headset though.

>>
>>393251804
Since you posted a cute anime gif, I will respond.

Wait for Go if all you care about is watching video content. Rift if you want gaming, but only if your PC has at least a GTX 960 and you can deal with it being quite low resolution and relatively blurry in terms of visual clarity experience.

Or you could wait one year from now to hear what they announce for gen 2 Rift/Vive.
>>
>>393251804
You are asking "Should I get a Super Nintendo, or wait for an original Game Boy?" The Go won't be real VR. If you want VR get the Rift, or if you can get a Vive as it has better tracking and in VR tracking is everything.
>>

>>
>>393251921
The standard troupe of VR games, job sim, brookhaven experiment, the games I listed previously, the climb (great fun but again, feels more like a tech demo than a game). Echo arena was something I got to try at E3 actually, hadn't played it before. Novel movement tech, something that also needs to be improved upon but echo arena fixes it in a novel way (though I doubt it would work for every game). Onward and pavlov I didn't have a chance to try, but looking at them now, they look like pretty generic FPS games of which there are a slew. I don't see how they'd address the "gets repetitive after a few hours" complaint I have, especially considering if I wanted to play an FPS with my vision gimped I could just put blinders or tape on the screen. But that's just me. Competitive stuff isn't ready for VR yet, period. RIGS is a prime example of an attempt and massive failure.

gunheart looks like a kind of kitchy tower of guns styled game with the weapon variety, and I can dig that. from other suns looks so early in beta that I wouldn't want to form an opinion on it.

There's just not enough unique stuff. Obviously VR will lend itself extremely well to FPS and walking sims. But I want to see people try to do more.

This is true. I realised how fucked up it is when I caught myself thinking "I really liked the way she was riding me, really grinding and not just bouncing." Then I remembered that no, she wan't riding me, that wasn't real, that didn't really happen. But it is so good at tricking you brain that in your memories it was real.

VR is gonna fuck a lot of people up once it gets a bit better. I keep feeling that, "If this was just a little better, real life wouldn't have a chance of competing." Not just for porn, but for everything.
